We were warmly greeted by Adam for our late check-in. The lobby is very impressive. The rooms are spacious & comfortable. The bed was very comfortable (perfect mix of firm but comfy). The location is close to local dining/shopping with easy freeway access but very quiet. I would have easily given it 5 stars except for an unsatisfactory interaction with the night crew when the teapot in our room suddenly stopped working. The hotel itself is just as how I remembered it. Last time I was here was 2012. It's still in a great location with shopping and restaurants all within walking distance. MY mistake was that I paid this hotel in full through a 3rd party airline company. It was a great deal considering I did the whole air, hotel, car deal. As we all know, hotels do not like 3rd parties, they simply do not make much profit. First thing I did was apologize that I went through XYZ company. I made it clear that I don't expect any upgrades or any 'special treatment' whatsoever. The guy at the counter agreed that they don't like 3rd parties and would prefer customers going on to their site and booking directly....anywho....the 4 Star is for the service, I felt that because he saw that I booked 3rd party, he didn't take the time to talk to me like he did with the 2 parties before me. He basically, just got me checked in, gave my keys and sharpied an arrow to where my room would be and said, 'Next customer please' . Not quite sure where to pinpoint it. Is it a racial thing? A single female thing OR a booking through airline package thing? I'm curious. ** There's a big spider that lives in the vanity area. I think behind the safe. He comes out in the morning when I turn on the light. He circles the wall a few times, then goes away until the next morning. Please don't kill him! read more

The Inn has been renovated, and it is clean and comfortable. Our room had a spectacular river view. The room was spacious and we are happy that we stayed there because everybody was very friendly. It was right off I-5 but very quiet. Great location, close to food and a mall. read more

We were there for Parent's weekend at U of O. Everything was pretty wonderful. Check in was great (Mark), the room was comfy and well appointed. We did not receive housekeeping on our 2nd day for some reason, but that was a minor inconvenience. Sweetwaters (their restaurant) is fantastic....but MAKE A RESERVATION!!!! You won't get in otherwise. The kitchen has some things to work out (very, very slow) but the servers make up for it. Special shout out to Lucy, Bella, Echo and Shelby...who work harder than hard. Overall, it's a little far from the school itself, but a solid choice. read more

The low star rating on Yelp is bonkers. This was a great place to stay! I literally picked it based on online photos of the rooms and price point (It's mid-priced). I lucked out, it was a great stay. My room was VERY clean. Shower head had great water pressure. Beds were decent (not excellent). Headboards had these great built in book lights on them. I was in the North building and my room looked out into a very green,pretty courtyard, with a little patio and patio chairs. I had one late night moment (key issue, my fault) where I needed help from the front desk staff and the overnight staff could not have been more kind and helpful. Location is "City Center" Eugene. There's a thriving mall with Macy's, etc within waking distance. There's also a diner called Elmer's within walking distance. Within 5 minute drive there's coffee and a freeway entrance. If I had to pull up one complaint I would say the toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap) weren't great. Had a weird grassy earthy smell to them. Otherwise, no complaints - room was next level clean which is my major hotel selling point - will stay here again. read more

I was really unsure on how to rate this property because there was definitely good & bad. I would say after this first stay I would give it 3 stars but we would give it another try to improve. The property is beautiful, especially if you book a river front room. The view is gorgeous and you have easy access to the river walkway; however there is a bit of freeway noise coming through. The rooms are spacious and modern. The lobby and onsite restaurant were also beautifully decorated. The location is great; safe neighborhood with lots of dining and shopping options- mall across the way. We gave it a lower star rating because we were greeted by a very RUDE front desk girl. She was not friendly and seemed bothered by helping us. We also watched her be rude other patrons; she should not be in hospitality. We later had interaction with Xavier at the front desk and he was awesome. It was a bad first impression but we would stay again and give it another chance. read more

Hands down the nosiest hotel I've ever stayed at. Has to be the thinnest walls possible, you can hear everyone in every direction. The doors are heavy so easy to slam loudly on accident, can hear a full conversation in the hall from your bed. For the price it's insane how far from relaxing this place is. The restaurant is an absolute disaster. Please do not go there!! We arrived at 2:09. We did not get any to even come to our table until 2:22. We placed our entire order at that time and told them we had a short window. At 2:52 they delivered my order to go as I had an appointment to be at. My husband waited until 3:09 and they still had not brought his food. He ended leaving as they still had not brought his food. It is always like that and we will never return. The bed was very comfortable and we were very satisfied with everything: the location, the comfort, the cleanliness, and the service. We stayed the night of May 15 to attend a weekend conference. I am on 24/7 supplemental oxygen. "Mike" at the front desk was most accommodating, switching us to a room near the elevator. The lobby has great, welcoming ambiance - informing you are staying at an establishment that cares. Our room was very spacious and well appointed, with that "premium" feel. At the conference plenary session Friday evening, "Jeff" our server was simply excellent, as was the banquet food - amazing for a few more than a hundred guests. All in all, I would highly recommend this if you happen to find yourself in Eugene for a night or more. read more

I stayed at this hotel twice in early November of 2025, while touring southern Oregon. The first night we stayed was without incident, hotel was ok. When we returned to stay the night prior to flying out, I noticed that I'd been billed for the first night's stay twice on my credit card. I went down to the front desk to discuss it about 7 am on November 11th...I spoke with a man named Adam, who treated me and my problem very dismissively. He looked the payment status up in his computer and gave me a print out. He stated that it was impossible for the hotel to have charged me twice, and told me that I would need to take it up with my bank. I replied that I would just dispute one of the charges, and he said that " I've told you what you need to do, I'm not going to argue with you about it. Move on." I said "just like that, get out of here?" Then I asked him for his last name. He replied that I was raising my voice, get out of the lobby, he was calling security. I left and went to Starbucks... At no time did I raise my voice. I'm sure that you can review the incident on your security tapes. Adam should never have a customer service position...he treated me rudely and dismissively from the moment I started talking to him. Also, he told me that the hotel has a two night stay minimum, which wasn't disclosed to me at the time of either of my bookings. The hotel charges a $ 40 "early checkout fee" if you only stay one night. When I returned later that morning to check out, a nice lady looked up my account. After she found it, she kind of gave me a look like Adam had entered something in there about me... Anyway, ok hotel, desk staff needs improvement. read more

Stayed here while driving through on a road trip. Great location with lots of dining options and shopping near by. Room was nothing fancy, but clean and spacious. Every room has a balcony or patio. Front desk was very friendly and smooth and easy check in. Lobby was modern and cozy and looked recently updated. We are dinner at the Sweet Water restaurant at the hotel. Food and drinks were good, and great customer service at the restaurant as well. We were seated in the patio along the river, which was nice. read more

The reviews are so surprising on this. I've stayed here twice. The first time was 2 years ago and it was mediocre at best. My recent stay was amazing. Large rooms that were super clean and cozy. Fridge, microwave, extra blankets. I can't complain. I like this hotel and will continue to book here on my trips through Eugene for work or personal. read more

Adam behind the front desk talk about a rude piece of shit. I recorded the whole conversation as he treated us like shit. We had the reservation through Expedia. It was paid for already. He ran four different cards for an authorization hold. The machine said approved and on his end he kept saying it said declined. He was being a jerk from the get go. He then started saying I won't be abused despite him doing all the yelling contacted. What a joke stay away from this place. If Jenni Hendricks the general manager reaches out I would gladly retract this review, but she ought to really train her people. Valley River Inn was not great. A nice man guaranteed us two rooms by the river by 4:00 PM. We came back at 4:00 PM to put our things in our room, and there was only one room available, so we put our things there. The employees were making excuses about everything. We went to eat dinner, and when we came back, the rooms weren't ready the employees kept making excuses. My sister had something to say to one of the employees, and they just interrupted her mid sentence. DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I had found this 2 years ago! I love this hotel and although The Gordon has been wonderful, for me, Valley River Inn beats it in many ways: Dog friendly rooms are on the lower level with walking areas right outside the door. The slider has an inside bolt for added security. Easy access to parking; no valet necessary. The room decor is lovely and calm with excellent lighting. A large desk with many outlets also has great lighting. The heat system and lighting were easy to use (frequently an issue at the Gordon). Coffee amenities are great and the microwave and fridge are a nice size. A little steam iron is also provided. The walk in shower door is well designed to turn on the water without getting wet (simple but appreciated). Having the restaurant on the same floor is fabulous. It's a nice cozy redesign and lovely on the deck, weather dependent. For Eugene Sweet Waters is great and staff is so kind, although not fine dining by any sense. The gym is open 24 hours, very clean, and well equipped. My only complaint is that if you want filtered water for your own water bottle, you have to go over to the gym or use little plastic bottles provided. I've been to 4 different hotels over the past 3 years and for me this is hands down the best fit. AND AMEX benefits!! read more

I loved reading my book on the balcony in the morning and the restaurant had delicious food. You can tell this place is privately owned by how they treat their guests. This has always been our favorite stop while traveling through Oregon. However, we were shocked by the hike in price and fees from our last stay to this one. The same room was $80 more than our last stay and they charge $15 just to park your car on the premises. Who travels without a car? The room was decent, the TV volume is capped at a low level that is hard to hear over the very loud heating unit, the onscreen TV guide does not match the channel selected (e.g. if you choose ESPN it gets you Home Shopping Network) the bathroom door handle fell off in my hand and they only provide instant coffee with a kettle. Overall, our stay was almost $300 with the $75 non-refundable pet fee for one night. A premium price for a substandard experience. We won't be back. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I hate complaining about anything!! We are a family of 6 that booked two rooms on Expedia. We came to check in today after traveling from the east coast.... I've been up since 1:30 am EST. Not their problem I realize, but I'm exhausted. Our flight arrived at 2 pm. I didn't expect our room to be ready, but I headed to the hotel just to check to see if either of our rooms might be available. Everyone in front of me was sent on their way to their rooms. The kind gentleman at the desk apologized the rooms weren't ready yet, but said the hotel guarantees a 4 pm check in. We came back at 4 and spoke w an older woman at the desk who had a massive chip on her shoulder. No rooms ready... we don't know when they will be!!! The manager got involved and kindly directed us to bring in our luggage and a few groceries. During this time a room became available. We put everything in one room and headed to dinner. We came back 2 hours later and the same disgruntled woman is clearly displeased we are still breathing. Now she tells us she can't even guarantee a river view room will be available this evening. They offered to put us in a lower level of room, but since we pre paid I asked for the rooms we paid for. My husband asks to see the manager again. While my husband is speaking with the manager the older woman checks the next guest in practically yelling to the lobby "look at you... a perfect guest just checking in" Ummmm... all we've tried to do is check in. We've traveled all over the world as a big family and never have we experienced anything like this. The experience has been so unreal I felt like a hidden camera might pop out. My teenage daughter tried to respectfully point out to the older woman that her parents weren't in anyway disrespectful... that made the GM mad. This miserable woman has only been employed by the hotel for two weeks... I guess that excuses her actions. I don't know what we possibly did to deserve this treatment... my husband has a small cross on his shirt, maybe because we have 4 kids, maybe we look happy, maybe because we booked on Expedia (I wouldn't have known about the hotel otherwise). I'm not sure, but I know next time we are in town for Nike Outdoor Nationals we will not be staying here! read more

At first I was charmed by the cute decor, but unfortunately anything positive about this place faded later on. I was promised that my room would be ready by 4pm. I returned around 6 to get my key but was told my room was still not available. The older lady at the front desk was rude, made backhanded comments about my family to other people checking in, and treated my sister terrible when she asked when the room would be ready. The manager was fairly kind to begin with, but also was unnecessarily rude to my sister. I had been up since 3:30 am ET, so 12:30 am in this time zone and me and my sister were extremely exhausted, the staff was blatantly disrespectful and crude when we patiently asked when our room would be ready. When our room was finally ready the staff showed disgust toward us making for an uncomfortable stay. Would not come back here, wish we could have moved hotels. read more

This is a premier place to stay in Eugene. We requested and got a river view room and the view was amazing. The room was large and clean and comfortable. All the amenities that were needed were provided. Yes, it is a bit pricey but to me worth it. No hassles. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Small snack shop in lobby very pricey so bring your own water bottles and snacks for your room. Sweetwaters restaurant on the river at the hotel is charming and wonderful views. Staff very efficient and friendly. Food good, however not many choices. Free parking. The last night I left the sliding glass door open and got lots of nats in the room. I called the front desk and they immediately moved us to a new room. I highly recommend this place! read more

We stayed here many times prior to the renovation, even our grandparents used to stay here. It was always our go to once a year when we travel for a business trade show. Upon arrival, the room was not ready (after driving over 13 hours to get there) and we were told to come back in 45 minutes. When we did come back, we were told the room was still not ready, but they got someone else to help and after about another 30 minutes they finally got us a room. The room was really nice but when we went to get food at the restaurant "Sweet waters" we had absolutely the worst possible service with major attitude from the staff. It took over 30 minutes just to get a couple drinks to the table. Later in that same evening, we had the slider open to let in some fresh air and apparently someone outside down below us was smoking and the odors came into the room. Within about 30 minutes, security and the manager were knocking at the door to kick us out of the hotel and accused me of being the one smoking with no proof other than the smell from outside which they were blaming on my wife and I. The manager would not listen to our side of the story and only gave 20 minutes to pack up and vacate the premises. I am a business owner and we were there for a business trip but we were treated worse than the many many homeless drug addicts all over the city. There is also a pot store on every corner in the town and you can't step outside without smelling it everywhere. Needless to say, they charged the whole cost of the stay as well as $250 cleaning charge for smoke that wasn't us. This feels like a racquet and maybe should be investigated. Not sure how a place like this can continue to operate in this way and stay in business. Stay away from this place or make sure to keep all windows and balcony sliders closed just in case someone else decides to smoke anywhere near your room. read more

what a disappointment. Having lived in Eugene for many years, now in Portland, we were planning to splurge and spend the night at the Valley River Inn, two nights actually, whilein town to see our daughters wedding, my stepdaughter. I started by looking at the so-called photo gallery, and to my surprise, it looks like somebody has turned it into a Denny's. I called to ask questions, I asked the guy if I had reached reservations, and he said yes. Within a minute or so, he became super rude and not at all concerned about a reservation for me or my questions, and then he exclaimed he was too busy to talk to me, and that was the end of it. How sad that the world has become so out of touch that you can't even talk to somebody about their business, about what they're offering. They want nearly $600 from me for two nights and not even willing to talk to me. so sad. I'm so over it. Anybody have a suggestion for a great hotel Eugene? I was hoping to get something wonderful on or near the river. Perhaps, like everything else, that sort of thing doesn't even exist anymore.
