This place has all the great ingredients to be a hit. People are nice and cool, drinks are fun and concept is right. Where it fails? 1-Starting with the booths that suppose to bring a more comfortable feeling to guests but fails in comfort and style. 2-Tables are an absolute design mistake. Height is not appropriate for the space neither is the size. The cold and hard surface selected also doesn't help making a bad combination between proportion and style. 3-Although drinks are great, they should be better presented. An old marketing say was not applied: "you can't only be good, but also need to look good". 4-Food is an obvious missing item. Lots of degustation places understand the importance to "clear" your taste buds before try a new mix. Not even mention the fact a little bite helps on the bottom line. This is my favorite bar in Tulsa. Oddly enough, I do not like the taste of most alcohol and so I only drink fruity sweet cocktails - the bartenders here are very friendly and helpful! I can describe what I'm interested in and they make a drink I've never heard of that fits my tastes perfectly. To add to the wonderful service, the atmosphere is great! Also be prepared that this is a small place (I feel like some yelp pics made it seem much larger), so there is limited seating. We did try a champagne bong, which was fun, but no one in our group really liked their cocktails (we each tried several). Great trendy bar in the Brady district in Tulsa! They have a massive whiskey list for all you whiskey drinkers. If you're up for trying something new - just give the bartender a couple taste descriptions of a drink (they have a menu with all these on them) and they will make you something. We love coming here when we are in town. We always do the bartender's choice drinks and have never been disappointed! I usually pick 3 words and tell them I hate gin,then they make a drink and stay to confirm you like it. This time, we were able to bring friends from OKC with us to this bar and they loved it too. For my money, this is the best bar in the Brady District and maybe the best in Tulsa. Our bartender was extremely nice and well versed in cocktail goodness. I gave him a liquor and said surprise me and he came back with one of the best cocktails I've ever had. He also told me the story of its inception in New York and the people who invented it. This place has such a cool vibe and the drinks are great! They have big seating areas and seems perfect for groups, although the vibe is more laid back. They also serve snacks from a nearby bakery, but I didn't try any. I like the craftsmanship that goes into each drink, and it's so mesmerizing to watch each drink being assembled. Valkyrie is a fancy cocktail bar, but some elements of our visit there turned me away. Following our departure from Tavern, we stepped a few spaces down the block to Valkyrie. Valkyrie is a modern mixology /speakeasy-esque bar that features artisan cocktails. The interior features a long bar, several large booths with tables, and some smaller side seating and conversation areas. The décor is a bit dark / industrial, and most of the lighting is the glow of Edison bulbs. When we arrived, we were taken to a seating area near the door. At first I thought this was just a holding area until we would be moved to a table, but this was instead our table.. While this might have been a fine area for a larger party, the three of us were separated by a bit of a gulf - the girls were on an overstuffed couch and I was on a long wooden bench, but there was enough ambient noise that close conversation was mostly impossible, but there was not a very good way to re-arrange to bring us closer. We received menus and perused the list of cocktails. The menu actually features a very long list of $9-12 cocktails, divided into categories like "sweet", "smoky" et c. The main face of the menu features a few select / recommended cocktails, but opens up to a much longer list of 50-60 drinks, still categorized, listed as a line-item list. We ordered our drinks, and though our drinks were good, the part that soured the experience a little bit was when Mrs. R asked about a cocktail and asked about the absinthe in it. Mrs. R loves anise flavors and was specifically asking how present the flavor of absinthe was in the drink, and if there were any cocktails on the menu that were more absinthe-forward. The response she received came off a little condescending and seemed a bit akin to "mansplaining" that absinthe is an expensive ingredient, and that it has a very powerful flavor, and that it was generally used in their drinks only for flavor and aromatics. Mrs. R rightly took offense at this - considering her experience with what she likes and that we've paid a premium for an "absinthe cocktail" at another establishment that is just a measure of absinthe, water, and a sugar cube - cost and taste were not the points at issue. So with this little bit, plus that Jen D. ordered a Moscow Mule that came in a regular highball glass instead of a copper mug (c'mon, that's part of the drink - otherwise it's just vodka, lime, and ginger ale (or ginger beer)) we left after one drink It seemed like a place that could have been cooler, it just didn't go so well for us. Incidentally, we did have a great absinthe drink at a different place in Tulsa - I will have more details in a later review. Valkyrie Bar is a step into the future by stepping into the past. Using natural herbs and juices makes the best concoction. My favorite so far is the Bohemian and I had Mulled wine in November which hit the spot with 32 degree weather. The bartender was especially nice and knowledgeable, love that in a bar. Ok. This confirms it. I love Tulsa. This is the kind of place that I would expect from a big city. And I would expect to pay double the price for these drinks and wait 2 hours to get in. When a friend suggested Valkyrie, I was only mildly interested. Clearly my friend doesn't have the same priorities of taste and AWESOME that I do because WHY were we just sitting around not here already!? The bar itself is just cool. Leather couches, wide booths, a comfy bar. This place is clean, comfortable and just suited for a fun, relaxing time. It has the swagger of a trendy bar, but the homeliness of dive bar. Now the drinks: I perused the menu and I liked what I saw... but honestly, it was hard to pick what I wanted. Over walks our fantastic server (and I am so sorry that I don't remember your name) and he was spot on. His recommendations were perfect. I told him a few things I do like and what I don't like and he nailed it. Some items were on the menu, some weren't. Everything was good. I really really really wish this place was in Kansas City. I will be back here. And seriously: I'm starting to want to move to Tulsa. And just a note, they do not serve food here. read more

This place is amazing. I was in Tulsa for a work trip (coming from Philadelphia) and it is better than any cocktail/speakeasy type bar I've been to in Philly. They truly get creative with the cocktails - I gave them a few words that described what I typically like/was looking for, asked them to surprise me, and the bartender created something so different and perfect I can't even describe it. I think he put at least 10 different ingredients/liquors in, used Gin which I didn't even think I liked that much, and made an unbelievable drink. Truly an art. The decor and atmosphere are wonderful, and since I sat at the bar I got to enjoy really lovely conversation with some of the local Tulsa folks around me. One minor downside is the music was a bit loud for conversation, but other than that I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

An unexpectedly pleasant surprise here in Tulsa! The bartenders I've seen here have been genuinely enjoyable to talk to and watch as they do their "alchemy" with the different ingredients. If you're looking for cheapie well drinks and $1 beers, this is NOT a place for you. This is a bar for people who enjoy the gourmet experience of craft beers and cocktails that look like magic tricks when they're being put together. Not sure what to order? Even though I came to Valkyrie on a VERY awkward date, it was still a wonderful experience, if only for the homemade rum and cola. When I went up to the bar and ordered a rum and coke, the bartender said "I have to warn you, we make both of those things ourselves and it's kind of different". I am all about different, so I decided to go for it. The drink definitely did not disappoint (though I cannot say the same for my date...). The decor was awesome. If you're looking for an exceptional drink, you've found your location. The mixologist really do know their stuff. I enjoy the setup of the place and how easy it is to get a drink. I didn't enjoy the attitude the staff took when we came in with a large group. They gave us a lot of dirty looks and seemed put-out that they had to serve us. They ended up bringing us our drinks (they were great) and we went on our way. I chopped it up to maybe it was a rough day for them and went back again. Again, the staff gave off a rude vide and seemed put-out. Chances are I'll be back but hopefully this next time there's a better vide in the room when I go. read more

New bar opened up in Brady District here in Tulsa last week. Good selection of high quality beers, wine, and liquors. Prices are a bit above my price range, especially for the Tulsa area. It was extremely loud in there. You can't have a conversation with anyone even sitting across from you at a table. Also, the place was a bit small. It was more of a hipster bar, but service was prompt considering how crowded it was. Its a good place to start the night, then move on to other bigger bars. read more

This place started out as a cool bar with interesting drinks. It caught on and the vibe and attitude seems to have taken a turn for the worse. They redid the seating a few months ago, from spartan tables with stools, to a new thing of large, u shaped sectional couches around a few small tables. Unless you are a group of 10, you'll almost assuredly be sitting with several strangers, which I suppose could stimulate conversation, but is a bit odd, to say the least. We visited a few weeks ago and it was fairly crowded but not terribly so. We started at the bar, ordered a round and paid rather than opening a tab. A table and sofa opened up and we moved to it. Almost immediately, a smarmy waiter came up and asked if we'd share our table. We told him yes and mentioned we'd already invited friends. After a while, he came and took our drink order and shortly after, our friends sat down. Time passed, paint peeled, and finally the guy shows up with the drinks. Luckily our friends hadn't passed out from thirst. As he told me the total, he asked if we wanted to open a tab. No, I'll pay cash. "I don't have time to run back and forth with change" he said, which I took to mean "I don't want a tip tonight, so you're welcome to stiff me". I didn't but definitely considered it! I'm not saying I'll never go back but it's not the place it once was. Still gets a 3 for unique drinks. read more
