Ummm ok? go to this weird apartment building and look for the open door! This place is so fun and unexpected in Tulsa... you would never expect this place in the middle of a sea of look alike buildings. This place was recommended by locals... when they gave us the location, we were like this is an old apartment building. Well, after pushing open the apartment door, we walked downstair on what was a very narrow group of stairs. EVERYTHING was red... and here it was... a speakeasy in the least likely place you would expect. Service great, prices great.... location? you would never guess. This HAS to be on your bucket list if you're in Tulsa. Really fun! read more

This is Tulsa's speakeasy. I have been a patron of this bar for many years, it's definitely a hidden gem in the downtown Tulsa scene. When you arrive, you see a simple, understated sign outside that says Cellar Dweller which is easily missed. You walk to an apartment complex with a red awning and a door open to winding set of stairs. As you take each step, slowly, you start to hear bustle coming from below. Finally, you start to see the red glare come out of two glass doors and you are now at Cellar Dweller. This bar is by no means fancy but it's got character which is even better. The bar is simple, cocktails, bottled and canned beer, but no draft. You can sit up at the bar and mingle with the regulars or hide out in a dark corner. When I say dark, I mean dark. The backwall is covered in mirror tiles and above the fireplace mantle hangs a kitchy but amazing, felt painting of a topless woman. You're in Tulsa's version of the Chicago's own Green Mill. It's small, it's simple but you feel like this is where Frank Sinatra or Al Capone would hang out if they were in Tulsa. The bartenders are unique and have the exact about of sass and humor that you could only assume would come with such a bar. It's perfect for a first date or nice drink before or after show. A friend recommended this place for a few drinks after dinner. I was kind of concerned when they said it was in a basement. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived how quaint it was. The bartender was amazing although I cannot remember her name. She managed to still be very attentive in a pretty crowded bar. First off you dont get here on accident. You have to be purposeful. At first you could feel like you are walking into hannibal lecter's basement and will be served some beans, but alas its perfectly safe and everyone there is super friendly, albeit in a low key sort of way. The atmosphere is super dark, (not goth) just the lighting with red hues. Easy walk from the aloft, and a place I always try to hit when in tulsa. Do be aware they don't have tap beer which was a turn off to me, but Ive gotten over it. read more

Management changes?? I'm not sure what is going on at cellar dweller lately. Over the last year the bar management has really gone down hill. Everytime I come in they are out of basic liquors and lemons/limes. I really like the bar staff - Mel, Marc, Max - but a couple of the newer bar staff have been playing punk / death metal music which is a huge turn off. I've come to this bar for years and will continue to do so, but only on the nights when I know who is bartending. I'm not sure who owns the bar anymore, but I hope they can correct the constant bar issues so they are able to keep the good staff who still remain... read more

I enjoy my late night rendezvous on Sunday night here. It was high energy and packed for some reason. Maybe because it was cold and people were tired of being locked in the house but all the people I bumped into were fun, friendly and full of great conversation. I've heard other stories about this place but that wasn't my experience. I drank about 5 drinks and mingled having a good time. I'll be back to test out to see if that was just a good night or if it is always awesome. read more
