What a great find and a great place to hang on jazz band night (Wednesday)! Tiny, divey, subterranean and hipstery. Mixture of couples in their 60s, kids who looked like they were 12 and 20/30 somethings who looked like the Cure's Robert Smith (both the skinny and tubby versions). Bartender was very cool, very efficient and very capable. The jazz band would have made Jack Kerouac and his buddies snap their fingers. I'd thought this place closed a while back, but learned from a friend yesterday it was open again. He was on his way there, and I'd just gotten off work, so I decided to stop by for a beer. Here's where the weird part kicks in... I used to live a few blocks from Cellar Dweller 15 years+ ago and spent many a night there. Last night I couldn't find it to save my life! After half an hour of driving around downtown and walking within feet of the entrance I finally found it with the help of my friend who was there via cell phone. The place is tiny and the crowd (last night) was very cordial. The really nice thing about it is it's so small large groups would avoid the place. Has just about everything you'd want in a dive bar. {I'd like to mention upfront it's a smoke free bar} The lighting is very low. There's seating for about 15 at the bar, a few additional 2 top tables, and at least one table that will seat 6 comfortably. My only complaint is about service. There's no service well so you have to order your beverage over the heads of patrons. I stood there for about 10 min before the bartender would even acknowledge me! This girl can put away some drinks. I like top shelf so each usually runs me 8-10$. Furthermore, I'm in the service industry so I'm very generous with my tip. But this particular evening I was underwhelmed by the bartender so I only had one drink and sat with my group. I know smoking bars aren't for everyone. This is pretty cool bar. It's downstairs and feels like it is in a cave. It kind of feels strange down there. I've only been in a few caves and it was those touristy in a car type of deal. My friend Derrick was in a spelunking club in Tahlequah and did some missions of some sort. He brags about it a lot. I guess he saved a lot of lives or something. Bands get a cut when there song is played? This could result in massive fines? This only applies to commercial establishments not residential. The first time I heard about Cellar Dweller was when someone told me that had jazz music every Wednesday night. When I heard this I assumed that it was some swanky underground bar. Partially true. It is kind of a divey underground bar, and they sadly don't do the jazz anymore. It is very cool downstairs, very dark and cozy. Kind of feels speakeasy-ish. There are plenty of tables, and a full bar. This is one of the more hidden spots on the Tulsa bar scene, but definitely worth checking out! read more

A nice little hidden gem of a dive. Underground in a weird part of downtown, this hidden bar is a bit tough to find at night. Once down the stairs you are in a dark cave of a bar. Cool people, GREAT bartenders. Sometimes they will have an old record playing or just some modern music. My girlfriend and I got there yesterday (Saturday night) at 1am and the bartender was like "You guys have time for 1 drink then I'm gonna need to kick you guys out", well that's a way to greet people and make them feel welcome! There were 3 single guys at the bar and that b*tch was litterally kissing their arse. We ordered a long island iced tea and when asking her if she had other cocktails, she replied "I wouldn't call the long island a cocktail :)" since when the long island is not a cocktail and since when you reply this way to your customers on this teenage crisis tone? But that clown kept the joke going by scamming us with a ridiculous $27 for the long island and a whiskey that she carefully watered down, little did she know I saw her doing it when I was on my way back from the bathroom. We weren't even feeling good enough to finish our overly priced drinks and left a few minutes later, leaving the waitress a round zero dollar tip as warm as her welcome towards us. We usually tip the waiters 20% but this time it was too much to close our eyes on, she stole us more than her tip fivefold anyway, so I'm not worried about her pay that she probably takes from the customers whether they want it or not. The Cellar Dweller is a great little secret bar, if you can find it. It actually is in a cellar and they don't have much lighting down there so it is very intimate and its pretty small too. No smoking so you'll have to go upstairs & outside. I would not recommend this place if you have a large group of people as you'll probably take up the entire space. read more
