Having no real primary optometrist that I consistently visited (except the one that I had no relationship to for the mere fact that it was my family's old optometrist that I rarely exchanged any worths with but possible broken Korean/English), I made a visit to Utopia Optometry since it is situated near my hometown. The practice is stellar and clean, and up to date with the latest fashion wear. I really enjoyed being evaluated by Dr. Ng. She is young, gentle and overall pleasant to discuss with. I also want to highlight that her staff members are equally as pleasant and gave me fantastic and honest advice over my choices in eye wear when I was looking for a very particular fit. GOOD: Clean friendly staff understanding caring huge selection BAD: none... i can't say one bad thing about this place. My experience: I used to drive to Pasadena regularly for my eye exams, lenses, and any "eye" issues I've had. Dreaded the drive, but been there over 20 years... it was convenient because they had my history. I had issues with my eyes again recently. Talking to a friend, they referred me to Dr, Liu, that he is simply the best. Well, I trust my friend, and wanted to give Dr. Liu a chance. I've been back there multiple times for my eye infection. And decided to have him examine my eyes and get new pair of glasses there too. OMG, what a huge selection of frames. From brand names to causal wear. loved it! Dr. Liu's staff even helped me on making a selection with my glasses. They were so patient with me. I ended up with a great pair of frames, that I've had a dozen compliments on already. Because of my eye infection, the glasses were not a perfect 20/20 vision. No ones fault but my own. However, they took me back without any hesitation, re examine my eyes, and they wouldn't charge me an extra penny. I was surprised at how they handled the situation. Very happy with their service. Having to leave my long-time eye care medical professional due to him having a debilitating stroke, I turned to my go-to, Yelp, to find someone. I'm loyal, so was driving a little far previously, so looked close to home. Yelp did not disappoint! While there appear to be several qualified optometrists in the area, Utopia, both by its page and reviews, seemed to be a cut above. Upon arriving, I was pleasantly greeted, and the outer area, while somewhat small, is attractively set up with a nice selection of frames and two stations for personal care. It was evident the approach is cutting edge with the offering of a digital exam to check the health of the eye. It is an additional cost of $29, but only has to be done every other year. While my previous caretaker was an ophthalmologist, Dr. Liu, an optometrist, has expertise and equipment to do everything except surgery, which I don't need. It was pleasing to me to read about Dr. Liu's background, as I knew he had a personal understanding of vision issues and was invested in his profession. I found him to be knowledgeable and after examining me gave me an improved prescription for my contacts. Apparently the ones I was wearing did not match the shape of my eye as well as what he prescribed. He gave me a week's supply to try before finalizing. That turned out to be good as I felt an adjustment was needed after a week. Today I was given another trial with a back-up in case the newer one is uncomfortable. Dr was great, but front office needs a little work. I came as a new patient and booked my 2 kids as I had a great experience with the Dr. I was given 2 new patient forms and booked my kids in for future appt (which was 2 weeks out) before I walked out of my appt. I picked up my glasses 2 days before my kid's appt and I confirmed their appts. On the day of the appt, they were not in the schedule. Now how did that happen? I understand that things happen, but the fact that I was confirmed, I had the new patient forms, and I did not get any type of accommodation while no one was there at the office except for the receptionist and the Dr, that just doesn't sit well with me. read more

ZERO stars from the very first step coming in to this store! Staff today was SO RUDE AF! If management is reading this, these two horrible staff, an asian guy who never said good afternoon and approached me with "do you gave insurance?" And the lady next to him who was even more rude for telling customers to " you have to look at the side of the frame" and talked to me like I worked there and should have known. Well, me as a paying customer, even if I have used up my insurance this year, you do not approach customers like "you don't have anything left for the insurance under you" or "ummmmm you were here 5 years ago". Well B, you guys are lucky there are even returning customers! I went there for the location convenience but you know what F that, I will drive a million miles just so I won't have to come back in this hell of a place!! Your job is simple--- customer service, yall had ONE job and can't even fulfill such an easy task. I feel sorry for the owner of this place, your staff sucks. It is disappointing to give this place a bad review. I went with high expectations due to so many great reviews. However I did not like this place at all. Possibly the worst optometry place that I've ever been too. What makes it worse its not the doctor, it's the staff. Very rude and unprofessional. No customer service skills whatsoever. I order lenses for my current pair of glasses and order a pair of sunglasses. So far I've only gotten my sunglasses and they had to return them because the lenses were poorly made (with a big scratch). So now I have to wait an additional 7 days. They were not apologetic about it at all. They should check their inventory when it arrives! I'm also having a hard time with getting my new lenses switch with my current frames because one of the ladies is adamant that I come in at 4:30 and no later. Knowing that I work in Anaheim and there is no way I can make it by 4:30. If they cared or had customer service skills, they would be understanding and more helpful ! Just Terrible ! read more

I'm not your usual customer. I have been traveling full-time for years and have experienced many different types of businesses and optometrists over the years. My lifestyle has me asking specific questions, such as, "What if my contacts stay in my car, and my car gets hot on a summer day, and I have nowhere cool to put them (because everything I own fits in my car)?" (Answer: Keep them relatively cool in small ice chest, by the way). Since I do consulting work and get paid for asking meaningful questions, I also ask the staff dozens of questions on contacts. I want to be mindful of best practices. Dr. Liu, Rosie, Mina - and others - have been very helpful (and patient) throughout my experience. If the staff doesn't know, I always get a call back from Dr. Liu who takes the time to thoroughly explain exactly what I am looking for. I enjoy communicating with experts who can explain concepts in ways I can grasp. So after jumping through hoops trying to figure out what happened, it all boiled down to the original insurance made an improper authorization which is what allowed the staff to give me the first quote (which is what I relied on when deciding to get the glasses). Had the original insurance correctly rejected the authorization, the staff would have asked me for a different form of insurance, which would have prompted me get and bring the new card. Since the original insurance took responsibility for their mistake and the issue is resolved, I have a better opinion of Utopia. Kind of wish there had been more research into the problem before telling me I owe them more and how soon can I pay it, but otherwise they seemed to have been following protocol. read more

6/22/17 I just picked up my very cool new glasses from Utopia Optometry. They're stylin' and I can see again!! Dr Ng did my exam. Yesenia and Heidi offered advice re frames that would accommodate my rx and facial structure. Rosie [optician] was very thorough with all the measurements. Today, Rosie did a fantastic job with the fine tuning. She suggested I wear my new glasses for a while and return for any adjustments as needed. I'm so happy I found Utopia Optometry! This establishment is absolutely top notch! Staff is friendly from the moment you walk in the door! I came in for my husband and myself eye appointment, we filled out our paper work since we were first timers and were seen very quickly. At the end of my eye exam Yesenia showed me so many glasses, she was so helpful and honest! I really appreciate honestly because I'm going to wear my glasses everyday for a long time. She was very patient while she helped myself and my husband find both vision glasses and sun glasses. She is the best, I highly recommend getting her when it comes to trying on and trying to choose frames if you need a second opinion! The doctor who did my eye exam (dr. I had my first appointment with this group in the beginning of October. I knew that my vision was bad but I never realized just how bad it was. From the moment I made my first call to the day I walked out with my prescription glasses the doctors and staff of Utopia Optometry were amazing. Making an appointment was fast and simple, they call you the day before to confirm the appointment and when you walk into their office you're greeted by beautiful women and lots of smiles. Now, not something to be proud of, but I have been to my fair share of doctors due to my injuries from the Marine Corps. I only wish that they had treated me like Dr. Ng treated me. Calm and patient, answered all of my questions and took the time to actually try to get to understand my condition. Didn't rush to just get me out the door but took the time to review everything and make the best suggestions possible. Lastly, I can easily say that I have found my permanent Optometrist with Utopia Optometry. I want to extend a personal thank you to the doctors and the staff. Surprised I haven't reviewed this place. This is my go-to optometrist for the last 3 years. The doctors are patient and take their time doing the exam. The gals in the front are amazing and kind. The /only/ gal I have a problem with is the curvy one with curly hair. When I went in for my checkup recently and was deciding on new frames or prescription sunglasses, she kept asking me if I had found anything every minute or so. I felt rushed and uncomfortable. It almost felt like she wanted me out because they were 'closing soon'...which wasn't for another hour and a half or so? This constant asking went on and on until I picked a few glasses I liked and debated on them. Even when I was coming down to deciding, she kept asking if I was done? Really, lady? Chill out! Then when I finally found the pair I wanted, turns out the frames were on clearance at 40% off. We start doing the paperwork and figuring the cost. The frames were $250. 40% off of $250 is $150, right? She does her calculations and says $210 for the frames and XYZ for lenses. Wait a minute...? I asked her if the special was 40 DOLLARS or 40 PERCENT? She says 40%. I did the calculation on my phone 5 times and I kept getting $150, not $210. I asked her to double check because that price was not correct. What does she do? SASSES ME! She says, "Um, we do our OWN calculations and this is what it says, $210." I'm baffled because I'm friggin' WATCHING her plug 250-40 on her calculator. :/ Seriously, and you sass me? I argued and tried to show her on my phone and she was not listening! Finally she double checked it with 240-40% and got $150... "Oh, you were right." Well, YEAH. Geez! The whole ordeal was annoying. Feeling rushed and then sassed kinda soured things a bit. I love the other gals and the doctors and everything else about them. I highly recommend them! But maybe ask to work with another one of the gals there instead of the one mentioned above. After I finished filling up the forms, I was treated by the person who was in charge of the basic eye exam. She was friendly and professional. Later came the eye doctor, Dr Liu, he was beyond professional and unlike other doctors who rushes you in and out of their office. I had a wonderful experience at Utopia Optometry. This was my first time going to the eye doctor so I was a little nervous. They eased my nervous immediately and talked to me more, so I felt comfortable. The doctor was very nice and understanding. He made sure my prescription fit my needs. When it came to choosing frames I was being very indecisive. They were so nice, they let me take my time and walk around. Opened cases, closed cases, and reopened cases. Only to end up going with the first pair I tried on. But I had a great time!! My glasses arrived within the time frame they said they would, and picking them up with quick and painless! My husband pointed me to this place to check it out and see if this would be an ideal place to go and start going for my eye exams. I actually was attracted to the sign that said they do free consultations for Lasik. I was always curious and thought, why not check it out and ask questions. I eventually made it and went for a consultation. Dr. Liu did the exam and said I was a potential candidate and referred me to the local office that does the Lasik procedure. I didn't have to ask any questions because he was able to answer them all! He is extremely knowledgeable and informative that I felt confident and happy to make him my new eye doctor. I went to the referred office to do another exam and was approved to be a candidate to have Lasik done. I went ahead and scheduled it and went through the procedure. Everything was awesome. The results are amazing. Now I still go to Dr. Liu for my follow up appointments. Each time I've gone, I've gone right in and out the door. They never rush me through, but they are just so efficient and amazing with their customer service. I always feel welcome and the staff behind the desk are always so kind and helpful. I never have to check back in to the front desk because "they haven't called me up after 15 minutes has passed after my scheduled appointment time."
