I received an eye exam at my local optometrist but they didn't have any frames I liked when it was time to order new eyeglasses. I found San Dimas Optometry through online research. I noticed they had a large selection of glasses so I gave them a call to see if I can bring my prescription in and possibly order a pair from them. They were very friendly over the phone and told me to come on in. My daughter tagged along with me. They let her sit at the children's table and color while I ordered my new glasses. I have come to this location for as long as I can remember, maybe around middle school. Since the transfer from Dr. Garrett to Dr. Burmayan, I have truly appreciated the care this optometrist provides. It is easy to make an appointment via phone and the administration is always so kind. My most recent appointment with Dr. Burmayan made me feel seen and I have learned more bout contact lenses, Lasik, and my overall eye health. I always feel calm coming to the optometrist knowing that I am in skillful and trusted hands. I personally have astigmatism so coming to the eye doctor makes me a bit nervous to hear whether my vision has gotten worse, however during my most recent visit it was explained to me why my prescription was given, the importance of not being given too strong of a prescription, and an explanation as to my various vision options. Once Upon a time, Visiting San Dimas Optometry used to be an incredibly pleasant and fulfilling experience. However, the customer service has been declining recently. Don't get me Wrong, Dr. Garrat is the best! and when I had to have my eyes checked out for some structural anomalies, I was able to be diagnosed within an hour and I have to say that it was one of the most rewarding experiences in visiting a doctor. However, recently, it seems as if the staff within the office is using the Pandemic as an excuse to provide subpar customer service. On my last annual checkup, I was in the office for over 2.5 hours. There was no reasoning as to why it took so long for the appointment. And I had an appointment, it's not like I arrived unexpectedly at an unusually busy time. Usually, these appointments only last an hour, and that's what I budgeted my time for. I understand that there are additional precautions needed because of the pandemic, but it seems as if that is an excuse to extend a patient's appointment by 150% that it usually is. I ordered lenses at that appointment and then received a text message to "please call before you come in to schedule pick up". I scheduled my entire week with the intention of visiting San Dimas Optometry today to pick up my glasses. However, when I did "call before I come in" I was told that I need an appointment in order to pick up my glasses. Now I cant get my glasses until next week, and my entire schedule of the week is thrown off and I'm stuck with poor vision until then. I tried my best to express that it is a little frustrating that the text message did not indicate that an appointment was needed to get the glasses and that this frustration could have been avoided if the text message was a little bit more detailed. However, the representative on the phone became argumentative and said that "that is what the text message stated", I emphasized that I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just wanted to express that it is frustrating that the requirements of glasses pickup were not detailed enough to communicate that I would be unable to pick up the glasses without an appointment. The representative remained defensive. I realized that my message was not going to get across. and I then told her "I must have misread the text", in order to get rid of the phone in an amicable way. All I want to express is that these 2 experiences of mine have indicated that this doctor's office is not what it used to be. Not sure if the pandemic is being used as an excuse for lower quality service, or if Doctor Garrat is starting to phase himself out, but the overall experience is declining. These are just two of my personal experiences, My fiance has other frustrating experiences recently and we both have been visiting for years. I hope this message is read by the staff and efforts are taken to improve the customer experience. It's just not worth driving all the way out there to receive sub-par service. read more

Rude... I had a question about my prescription and the receptionist was so rude. I've had issues several times with insurance and coverage due to poor communication in the past. They act like their there for a paycheck with no regard for any of patients that keep this business running, no warmth, understanding or even an ounce of friendly demeanor. I had an appointment with Dr. Gutierrez yesterday, Friday, December 1. This was my second appointment with her since I had her last year as well. I've been seeing optometrists since high school (like 50 years ago). I must say, I have never had a better optometrist than Dr. Gutierrez, which is why I am giving this business 5 stars and leaving this review for you to read. (Before her, I would see Dr. Garratt who is also very good.) She spent a lot of time with me yesterday answering all my questions, addressing my concerns, and helping to put my eye conditions in perspective. I left the office feeling great about things! I read the reviews about the poor customer service over the last few years, and I must admit, this has been my experience as well. Despite this issue, I liked and trusted the doctors, which is important to me, so I kept coming each year. I have been a customer fifteen years. After my experience with the staff in the last two days I have decided to go elsewhere. I called on January 4, 2022 to schedule an appointment. The girl on the line stated that I was jot in their system. After verification of my info it was determined that she got both my name and birthday entered wrong. After reviewing my account she stated that I was not eligible for services until after Jan 12. I said that's fine can I schedule an appointment. She stated bo and that I have to call back after January 12 to schedule an appointment. I received an email this morning from San Dimas Optometry to schedule an appointment and it was told the same thing as the day before that I cannot schedule an appointment today for an appointment for anytime after January 12 and to call back after January 12 to schedule an appointment after January 12. read more

I reached the addresses at 5:24pm couldn't find the place, I called the office for clarification and receptionist was unclear on how I could find the place. BE CAREFUL! INSURANCE FRAUD! I began service with San Dimas Optometry in January of 2022. Around June, I decided to buy some contacts. This place looked nice and like a good option for me. So, I decided to schedule my contact fitting and regular eye appointment. My first visit wasn't very pleasant, the employees at the counter were very rude and honestly made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The total for my contacts came out to about $400, I had an insurance benefit of $100 off contacts or glasses, they asked if I wanted to use it and I figured I would save it for my glasses. So, I paid the $400, full price, and went about my way. 2 months later, I finally got my contacts, and I do have to admit, I love them. The last week of December I realized I needed to go back to use my $100, before it expired in January 2023. I walk in and tell them I am there to purchase glasses, using my $100 insurance benefit, and all of a sudden the receptionists look very confused at the computer screen. They go to the back and tell me to wait, while I hear them whispering. They come back out and explain to me that my $100 isn't available because they "accidentally" FILED THE INSURANCE CLAIM! I never received this money, so I simply asked them where this money was and if I could get a refund. The manager told me that she hasn't processed any payments in 6 months and has no idea where that money is, all she knows is that they took it and didn't give it to me. So basically, they filed an insurance claim for $100 and didn't tell me anything about it and didn't apply it to my account. They figured since it would expire that week, that they would take out the money for themselves, and figured I wouldn't be using it. If you have insurance benefits here, I suggest using them before they expire, unless you want them STOLEN for their personal benefits. read more

My husband and I've been going here for the past 3 years and we love it. It's very clean, easy to schedule with and we feel safe with their COVID procedures. My most recent appointment was in December and I was in and out in the normal hour. The Doctor was knowledgeable, personal and very helpful and the staff is always great with us; on the phone and in person. During my appointment to pick up my glasses, the girl was so nice, she even helped me pick the better frames for my face and they ended up being the cheaper of the options I was considering so she wasn't just trying to make me spend more. She even checked pricing quotes on the few glasses against a few combinations of the pricing specials they were offering. (Darn, why can't I remember her name! I think maybe Jessica?) I came to San Dimas optometry in October 10, 2019 for my eye exam to get a new rx because my old rx was outdated. I looked for glasses, but when I went to purchase I found out that my rx wasn't on the paperwork the optometrist's office had given me. They had given me a receipt only and left the rx off. I called the office to get the rx and was told it would be emailed to me the next day December 12, 2019. I purchased glasses somewhere and when the glasses came in, I couldn't see out of them. The place o purchased suggested I check my rx for accuracy because the glasses were very blurry. I called San Dimas optometry and asked to get my rx checked for accuracy and they told me that I would have to pay for a whole new exam because I was 4 weeks outside of their 3 month policy, nevermind that I had only actually had my rx for 2 months because they didn't give it to me until I called them and requested it after they failed to insert the information on my paperwork the day of exam. I got a new eye exam at the optometrist who I purchased the glasses from and found out that I do not have an astigmatism like the rx from San Dimas Optometry says I do. The customer service was horrible. I honestly feel like they purposely didn't give me my rx so that I wouldn't be able to purchase anywhere else without having to come back to them first. Their complete disregard for customer service made sure that I will never go back, but after getting my eye test redone and finding out that the rx was way off, I wanted to warn others to also steer clear of San Dimas Optometry. Mistakes happen, but 2 mistakes (wrong rx and not giving rx when requested at end of exam) followed by crap customer service, is completely unacceptable. read more

We love the optometrist but the staff hasn't been the best. Steve's frames broke and his cristal lenses were scratched to smithereens. They told us a couple of days for the frames. That they would get those to us asap with the old lenses. It took two and a half weeks. At one point, the office staff even told us it was taking so long bc he had glass lenses and not the plastic ones (his eyes can't handle the warp the plastic lenses cause). Okay. Sure. Last week imagine how excited he is that his glasses are finally in! He goes in to pick them up. New frame old lenses. So the staff just likes to compound lie after lie. After lie. Then when you call them on it they tell you you're a liar and it isn't their fault. Even though it's the person that originally took his glasses in to begin with. It's been two and a half weeks and we are still waiting on the lenses, yet they used the excuse of the lenses as the reason they weren't back yet. Steve says he's over it. He doesn't care. But at an office that has seen almost $1k from us this year alone..... I care. They shouldn't be allowed to call customers liars. They shouldn't be allowed to give out lie after lie and label it a miscommunication. What in earth happened to decent customer service? Why do some of the best doctors have the worst office staff ? I am not happy. Not. At. All. And NOW the staff ordered the wrong glasses for my kiddo. Let me make sure I make it CLEAR: the doctors have been fantastic and gone out of their way to accommodate my children's genetic disorders. If only their office staff was as dedicated. read more

Customer service lacked for sure, like others say. The front office staff (not all) but one woman in particular was very cold and when I went to pick up my glasses didn't even say hi. She had just got done helping another customer, who spent $500, and was more friendly. Come my turn, no hello just asked for my last name and handed me my glass case with glasses. I had to ask "is that it, I'm done?"...she said "you can try them on if you want". I told her I didn't know that, since she didn't say anything. So Weird. I thought it was just me, but sounds like it's a common experience which is too bad. Will not be back.
