Another MN brewery checked off the bucket list. I heard mixed reviews about this taproom and beer but I'm so glad I decided to make my own opinion. I really loved it and my fiancé said we're definitely coming back here as soon as he sipped his first beer. The taproom is tucked away in an old industrial area but they have plenty of parking which is always a plus. The inside is massive and has a cool atmosphere with the exposed brewing tanks. There is a even a pool table which is pretty neat for a brewery. If you're like me I'm always curious about the food situation at a brewery, no need to fret because they almost always have a food truck onsite. For beers I tried the Copacetic and my fiancé got the Alt bier. I really enjoyed the flavors of both and want to come back to try more! read more

The Twin Cities has umpteen places where you can get beer. There are many taprooms and microbreweries. That being said, it is nice to have one close to my home. I checked it out last night with three friends and the beer selection was good. The price was great. The atmosphere was pretty nice, lots of young people drinking beer, and I'm a bit older, but even so, the music was good and not too loud :) I admit that it was a bit hard to find in the dark. For my first time there it was a bit confusing finding the actual building as there has been new development off Glenwood. Better lighting would help read more

Love what Utepils did with this space. There is seating everywhere as well as outside. Have to admit that I wasn't sure how outdoor seating work in Minneapolis in the colder months but was impressed. Complete with an outdoor bar, there is no excuse to not enjoy a beer. Also there is a cycling club that runs through here as well as karaoke. Cycle on over and enjoy the atmosphere but stay for the beer. read more

I'm a fan for what they are about. That means, that I won't ding them for not having the typical lineup of IPA, Porter, etc. They are not trying to be Steel Toe, they are trying to be Utepils (the first beer of spring). The Czech Pilsner and the Kolsch were my favorites, with the Pilsner having a bit more bite than the Kolsch. The pricing is good, the price for a "ski" flight is a bit higher than other spots but the pours are pretty generous. The space is great - large and copper colored, and they will be adding an outdoor patio soon. Hopefully once they start generating cash they can improve the entrance to the parking lot, cars with tight suspension beware. read more

4/1/2017 My first time here. As I write this, Utepils has been open for about 1 month. I tried the 'Flightski' (see photo) to sample the offerings: - Ewald the Golden - Hefeweizen: Very Good - Alt 1848 - Düsseldorf AltBeer: Brown in color - Very Good, a little dryer taste - Copacetic - Kolsch: Very Good - Pils - Pilsner: Very Good - Global IPA (Belgian style IPA): Very Good Really nice space. Surprising very open space when you enter the taproom. You walk through a short hallway that passes by huge beer fermenters on each side and opens up into this amazing taproom. Nice little touches that make it unique. (see photos) Some artwork on the otherwise blank blue walls. The fermenter 'lid' over the bar. Lots of tables and space for games, including a pool table. Planters and plants below the windows. You can tell there is a green thumb influence. The Flightskis are another fun unique touch. All the beers were very good. None gave the 'oh wow' feeling to set them apart from other breweries, but all were tasty. Outside patio to open later this summer. Staff was very friendly. Nice crowd on a Saturday afternoon. Really a lot to like here and I definitely recommend a visit (or 2, or 3 or ...). read more

I really love this brewery! We were out on the lake nearby and just wanted to grab a quick beer outside. It was important to us to find a brewery that had outside seating and that was following COVID-19 spacing. This brewery is huge and is doing a fantastic job at keeping everyone safe. The inside is really beautiful with a rustic outdoorsy vibe. There were plenty of tables if you did want to stay indoors. The workers all had masks on and there was sanitizer in a few places. They have a good selection of beer and I believe I found a stand out back that had some snack food for sale. The best part is the beer garden out back. There were a lot of tables set up and then more chairs in the lawn area. Everything was spaced out so we were no where near anyone else. It was the perfect place to sip on an IPA and enjoy a beautiful evening. Oh, and the beer was great. That always helps. I have already recommended Utepils to my local friends and family. I came here yesterday and met with friends. We got there about 2:15, it wasn't too crowded. When we left at 5 it was bustling. It was a pretty big and roomy warehouse, great brewery atmosphere. They sold snacks and there was a food truck. The beers were delicious, I preferred the wheat beers. Always my favorite. We had a good time all just catching up and chatting. I liked it and would go back if it wasn't for the location, just not very convenient for where we live, over in the east metro. read more

If you haven't been to this place you should give it a try. They did most things right. There should have been more markings leading you to the patio without going through the whole place from the front door. They just assumed that everyone are regulars and don't post things for newcomers. That being said the patio was nice, when there aren't many people. Once it starts happening I felt as though the tables and people where just too close to each other under the tent. Best to go there around noon on a Friday! I'm definitely going there again in the off hours of course. As for the beers there is a huge selection, and they are tasty. I asked for a tasting but the counter guy was very "dry" in his response telling me they don't do tasting, I had to ask why. For people who are just starting to go out again, it would be nice to have it written somewhere that due to covid, tastings are not possible. All things considered, definitely go there for some good beers and amazing snacks from the food truck. Thinking about this, I'm going again pretty soon. read more

First off, what a BEAUTIFUL tap room. Seriously, the tap room is awesome. It's open, spacious, and the perfect balance between homey and industrial. I can't wait to update this review after I try out the patio. The beer: unique, delicious, and very high quality. You can tell they take their beer seriously. The selection is small, but none of these beers disappoint. Ewald the Golden, the heifweisen, is served in a high tech glass that keeps the foam just enough to get that banana aroma throughout the whole drink. The Monday evening I came there was a small group of people playing folk music and it was the one time I haven't been annoyed by loud music at a brewery since the acoustics are actually decent for that set up despite the open space. read more

We've tried to stop two other times, but were a little scared of the fullness of the parking lot. We faced our fears last Friday and they were totally unfounded. The large parking lot is usually full, but there is plenty of street parking. Once we entered, we were surprised to see how large of a space the tap room actually is! There were many people there, but it never felt crowded and we were served quickly and efficiently. The bartenders in the tap room were friendly and knowledgeable. We spent about 5 minutes chatting with one employee about the future of the taproom, their expansion plans (helloooo patio!), their different beer styles and the neighborhood. They had a band the night while were there, a pool table, and plenty of board games if your company isn't top notch and you need a distraction. HA! They had large windows and welcoming lighting, I can see us spending a lot of time here this winter! *Tip: They have a great growler-machine-filler-thingy (I'm very technical) that allows sealed growlers to stay fresh for up to 2+ weeks. This brewery has one of my favorite beers, Dunkelweissen. I keep coming back for that mostly, but all of their other beers are pretty delicious as well. They usually have a good truck, and the inside is open and you can see the partitioned off brewing floor. This place is one of my favorite breweries, and it's decently priced. read more

I'd never been to Utepils before, though I had the chance to taste some of their beer at the Winter Beer Dabbler this past winter. I'd heard a rumor floating about that 'All their beer tastes the same' - I am happy to say that is entirely NOT the case. I tried two different of their flagship beers, the ALT 1848 and their Ewald the Dark. They were both excellent but I have to say the 1848 was the best altbier I've ever had. The atmosphere is great, it's open and large, and uncrowded. There were even a few tables outside for those soon to come days of summer. Great and friendly staff and a very casual environment! A good friend of mine works here. She has been inviting me for months and we finally made it out there. Very cool atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff (all of them, not just my friend), and really tasty beer. I ordered the IPA (typical) and really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the Altbier and he liked that. When we ordered our 2nd round, we decided to share a flight so we could taste the other beers. That's why this is just 4 stars and not 5. I didn't like any of the others. The Pils was OK. The other 2 were awful (in my opinion). BUT...that is just my own tastebuds talking. I'm definitely going back again for more IPA. My friend tells me they're working on outdoor space too-so that will be super cool. Oh...and my friend, she teaches yoga there on Sunday mornings-that was awesome. $10 for a great 45 minute yoga class (very casual and laid back) and a token for a free beer afterwards. An employee physically ripped glasses from my female friends hands without speaking to them first. The physical contact was alarming and he did not make any effort to speak to them before physically approaching and taking the items right out of their hands. They had brought wine in - and had called before asking about a cork fee but no one answered. Only after he physically ripped the glasses from their hands did he explain this was not allowed. It set an uncomfortable tone - that kind of disrespect for physical autonomy is really unnecessary. We are an older group of women who are not rude or not well meaning. The place was a surprise, in a good way. It's not the most easy brewery to get to, but the space is big...kind of like Surly big. There's tons of seating. The parking lot gets full fast and you may need to park on the street. When I was there for a happy hour, there were only 4 beers on tap. I had the hefeweizen. It was good, easy to drink. There's a pool table and when the weather is nicer, they'll have an outdoor patio area. The bartenders are nice...they're bar is nice and long. It's a big brewery. I lived within about a 20 minute walk from this location, so when they announced they would be opening a brewery, I was impressed. They announced they would open by a certain date and then they just kept pushing it back. I would walk around the space anytime I was walking nearby and no one ever seemed to be working. It feels like they opened a year later than they said they would, but it might be more like 6 months. Early on, when they announced they would open a brewery, they had open houses and served root beer or other breweries' beer. It seemed like it would be nice to hang out in the back yard. Now they are finally open and it's not really my thing. The beers are all light German styles and I like my beers to be more either Belgian style or Porters and Stouts. That's all personal preference. It's also always crowded, loud and hard to find a seat let alone have a conversation. Their prices are good and they have water, Tree Fort sodas and cold press coffee for non beer drinkers. They also have food trucks which is a nice addition to the neighborhood. They haven't set up an outdoor patio. When they do, I will probably enjoy it more because it will be dog friendly outside and not so dark and loud. Now hopefully someone will do something with the busted window graffiti ridden structure next door. read more

Ok, I'll admit, the name doesn't roll off my tongue, and I had a hard time remembering it, but you won't forget this place, the people or the beer! This is not just another pop-up micro brew with 12 different varieties, from heavy hops to so bitter your tongue swells up. No, these guys take their European- style craft beer seriously! I haven't tasted a hefeweizen this good since Octoberfest in Munich! The taproom is spacious and grand with it's high ceilings, but with a cozy, old world charm, and acoustics that allow you to hear the conversation at your table.The outdoor beer garden looks to be awesome set along Basset Creek. I can't wait for the release of the Pilsner in 2 weeks! read more

The neighborhood has been awaiting the opening of this brewery for some time now it did not disappoint. It's much larger than i had anticipated and in a good way. The design / atmosphere is really terrific and I highly suggest you go at a time before the sun sets as the late afternoon light is outstanding and, mixed with a quaint strung-bulb lighting strategy, gives the space a nice beer garden quality while still being indoors. There will also be a nice outdoor space in the near future. Without gushing, I'd have to say that this might be my favorite IPA in town...I know people's taste in IPAS run the gamut so I'll just say it has a clean, clear, bright taste that is not overly hoppy and finishes without a strong aftertaste. It weighs in at 6.5%. They also have a hefeweissen and a kolsch. I am not a kolsch fan but people that are said it tasted nice. I did not try the hefe but may today. I'm really glad to see this place open, I think you will enjoy it. Also, while there, order a pizza from Bryn Mawr Pizza and Deli and have it delivered to Utepils. What could be better? This brewery is newer to the scene but definitely as busy as any other taproom I've been to recently. Because it was so busy, the space seemed kind of tight and a little overwhelming but there are big beautiful windows on the walls and a long walkway from the front door with tables where you can get away from the big crowd. I had the pilsner and wasn't blown away by it, though it was good. They offer a few different sized pours so you have to specify which you want when you order, otherwise they'll assume you want a full pour. They have a couple of different shot-skis on the menu which were super cool looking and definitely not shot sized portions. It was a nice taproom and though a little frazzled, the beer-tenders were super friendly. I look forward to giving it a try again in the future! read more

They slide more toward classic European lagers vs ales, and have a HUGE space in comparison to most locations. In addition, they back up to a beautiful wooded area close to bike trails. Their parking lot could use some work, especially if you drive a car rather than a monster truck, so be ready to dog car sized holes. But, don't be frightened away. Large double stacked windows and art on the walls drew my attention immediately. The hanging lights are also a nice touch. We ordered a variety of beers and I thought the price was quite reasonable. Service was quick and friendly, and for food options, they have a food truck outside. There are several old school board games to play which is great while sipping on beer. I think my favorite part is the taproom, which is a beautiful, big, open space that manages to feel spacious even when it's packed. I recently hosted a graduation party in this space and it was perfect for mingling. I had a lot of non-beer drinkers present, and the staff did a great job of helping everyone find a beverage they enjoyed. Right now they have a filtered hefeweizen on tap called Ewald the Brilliant and I highly recommend it! read more
