    corner sandwich board
    Nikki B.

With holiday free parking Monday I stopped in. Chatting up beertender Chris I asked when they opened? They had their soft open on Friday, 16 February and their grand opening will be 13 March. There's a sandwich board sign on the corner... but the tap room signage isn't great so they're a couple doors from the corner....look for the 25 above the door and the small BL in the corner of the window to the right of the door. They're in the old Clockwerks space...which I had only been in in a couple times and that was in 2017. Chris said they painted the bar top. I like that the west wall was black but they had painted or chalked brewing murals on it. The tap room is standard height tables...yeah! The padded bar stools are comfortable and a good height so you don't have to climb up on them! The tap list is in the upper NE corner near the front window. When I told Chris thank you and that I just returned from a metro area that only had QR codes he replied that that is where they are headed. They also had a few food items menu next to the beer menu. Along the west wall there is a shuffleboard table and fooseball table. When I went to the restroom and headed back to the bar I spotted shelves of board games.....if you were hoping for some of that action. In the center of the tables is a Erlenmeyer Flask w chalk in it. The flight pours are in little beakers. It wasn't too busy @ 2:00 open on a Monday so I was able to chat up friendly and informative beertender Chris. He told me their brewer is from Earth Rider. Shortly later another fellow appeared behind the bar so I asked if he was the brewer? He was not he was the delightfully informative tap room manager Matthew. It was great chatting him up about New Mexico and brewing there, where Brew Lab 101 originated. A lot of beery knowledge was shared yesterday.....thanks Matthew! I like the large open space and only having the north wall as windows, a lot of light was there. You can't miss the skyline silhouette mural on the south wall. There are currently seven beers on tap. Chris said if I wanted to taste everything, so two flights of four, he would pour what was listed and add in one secret beer that wasn't listed. I opted for this route. After making it through about six tasters I was getting really full so I didn't order a pint of everything. I'm happy to report they do offer 10 oz tulip pours if you choose not to opt for a full pint! Surprisingly for seven beers on tap, no sours. I'm ok with it but was just really surprised. I was most intrigued with the 505, the Green Chile Mexican Lager. It was delicious and didn't bring the heat like I thought it would. Just a good not too spicy beer. The secret beer? Dill. The 505 with a splash of pickle juice....served with a small cut of a pickle spear. The Sexi Meexi was good and tasted like your big brand Mexican lagers. It was truly delightful getting to chat up Matthew and Chris about Brew Lab, some MN brewery related laws and just any of the things. A few of the beers will definitely be up a HopHead's palate more than mine. I was glad I got to try them. I appreciated Chris' assist when he handed me the flight, just in tap list order and I asked: but what order would you drink these in? I scoffed when he put the flight down and said I may not like the Wicked Pissah since it's an IPA. I replied: but it's NE and Hazy, two styles I do like! However the bitter IPA was dominant in the brew so it wasn't bad but as he thought, not really my jam. After I tabbed out I asked Chris "did I not see somewhere to tip you on that?" Chris said I did not, the 20% service fee is built in. I just checked my receipt...he was corect; O was charged $9.00 for each flight and a $3.60 service fee. Thanks for a very informative and fun inaugural visit Brew Lab 101!

It would have been great, if they were open when they said they were! 7:00 and the doors were locked and chairs up on tables.

The patio is a huge highlight. It's spacious, well set up, and perfect for enjoying drinks outside, especially in the warmer months. There are games to play, plenty of seating, and a really fun, laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to spend a few hours there without even realizing it. The food is also a standout, which isn't always the case at breweries. We especially love the pizza and the elote fries, both are consistently delicious and pair perfectly with their drinks. It's nice to have food options that go beyond the basics and actually feel like a reason to come back. The staff has always been super friendly and patient, even when it's busy, which we really appreciate. It makes the whole experience feel welcoming and easy. Inside, the space is just as great. There are two levels and games you can play, so there's plenty to do no matter the weather. Overall, this is one of our go-to spots and somewhere we find ourselves coming back to again and again.

Seriously, I've probably had everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. They have an extensive collection of beers that will please anybody, with some of the best Hazys and best Sours in town, and also cocktails that work for folks that don't want a beer. The patio is superb, and although you sometimes share it with a passing train, it's tucked away and is a nice separation from the business of the surrounding north loop. I'd argue the wings are easily top 3 in the whole state, they're always crispy, and the monthly specials are clearly thought over and iterated on by talented chefs that want to try new and unique things. The pizza is also probably the best Detroit style in the city, try the Elote and you'll see what I mean. Staff is a hoot, they're all super nice, great to talk to, and have honest opinions about their own menu. Seriously, if you're anywhere near the downtown area, go here.

We lucked out to find a parking spot very close, and the restaurant wasn't even busy when we were there. I can only imagine parking is quite a challenge at busier times of day. We had a cozy booth. I had a view of the streetside windows and the dining room. Music was at a pleasant low volume in the background--we had no trouble talking and listening to each other. Our server, Lali, took good care of us. We were never left wanting and empty dishes were cleared promptly. Everything came out at an ideal pace, too. My husband had a beer from on tap. I was very happy that they had a couple kinds of cider, so I had one from Minneapolis Cider. We ordered poutine as our appetizer. It was fantastic, and a massive serving! My husband had the brisket philly for his entree; brisket is one of those meat cuts that is tricky to get right, as it easily gets too dry, but the cook absolutely perfected it. I had the smoked trout and greens bowl, which was no only delicious, but was also a feast for the eyes. I have never had trout prepared like this before, only salmon, and this dish was quite special. Just a wonderful place. I can see why it is so highly reviewed.

We tried the poutine and a barbecue platter to share. Both were good and I loved the juicy BBQ chicken, but the poutine was notable because there was tons of beef as well as the gravy, cheese curds and all on top of really good fries. Our food came out super fast and hot, and my glass of House Cabernet for eight dollars was a generous poor and a nice wine. There's plenty of street parking in the blocks around this area, and there is a cute bookstore as well as a sustainable goods shop that you should definitely check out across the street. I would love to come back here again!

The bartender told me that the go to was their Czech Pilsner and so that's what I had. It is light and smooth, very easy drinking. I'm impressed that they have a wide selection of stouts and IPAs and wheat beers to cater to anyone's taste. The food menu is limited. The food ordering process is really fast casual. You order at the bar and then they deliver your food to the table in cardboard basket dinner where is plastic and you bring your condiments to the table you choose. I wanted to try their wedge salad as well as their slider flight. The wedge was unique because rather than using iceberg, they use Romain, which actually was a nice change of pace for a wedge. It was good. The onions and tomatoes were diced, the dressing was thinner than most wedge dressings, but it was flavorful. The two pieces of bacon on top were whole and quite frankly might've been better if they would've been chunked the smaller pieces as well, but that's not a major issue. The slider flight comes to three sliders. One is a smash burger , one pulled pork, and one is chili chicken. The rolls are fresh and akin to a Hawaiian roll. The Smashburger was a good basic burger, the pulled pork was decent. And the chicken chili, was a shredded chicken that was spicy, but not too spicy. They were easy to eat and enjoyable. All in all the food was good, but not extraordinary. They were satisfying. You're not going to see a Michelin star given to StormKing anytime soon, but that's not the point. If you were looking for a quick easy to eat meal and a really solid selection of micro brews that you won't find anywhere else, the Storm King is worth a try.

We order some apps consisting of chips and salsa and an order of wings (3). I had an aperol spritz which was delish and had those fun summer vibes. The staff were friendly. The chips look definitely homemade and maybe made fresh when ordered. The salsa is more like a pico and tasty. The wings were good and came with some celery and ranch. They are the whole wing so you'll have to work for your food. Great atmosphere in this neighborhood and fun place to hang out. Parking can be difficult if you're headed down during a twins game. No parking lot, just street parking. They also have a cart of games to play if you're interested in that. I was eying the uno card but didn't have any takers in my party to play against.
