Easily one of the best HH menu's in the cities. The inside bar and outside patio are all spacious with ample seating. The inside bar is moody and great for a date night or drink with friends. We met some friends for an early dinner and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and helpful giving beer recommendations as one of the taps was out that we had requested. Both couples got the chicken sammy and burger and curly fries - I continue to hope I go with someone who wants to split this every time since they are both THAT good. Came once for happy hour and again for dinner on the patio. The fried chicken sandwich is so delicious and is a steal during happy hour. Must try! The house cocktail was a twist on a margarita with crème de violette I believe. It was great. Great service at the bar. Had dinner on their awesome, sunken patio on a nice summer evening. Much of the patio is covered which is great if the rain kicks up. The mahi fish tacos were delicious, fried and flaky but not greasy. Generous portion. The dry rub wings were great, too. I especially loved the trio of sauces that came with them. Lots of flavor. Our seasonal cocktails were good! It's a little confusing but Char Bar is located inside Butcher and Boar. They share a food menu but the cocktails differ. So, technically our patio experience was Butcher and Boar, and I was told you can ask for cocktails served at Char Bar. read more

We had a great experience at Char Bar! The ambiance and vibes are great. There's bar and table seating available. We got some drinks and food. I got the 'I was born on Jupiter' at the recommendation of our waitress and it was delicious. I was hesitant about the banana flavoring in it but it was all perfectly balanced in my opinion. For food we had the curly fries, corn bread, Brussels sprouts to share and then i had the friend chicken sandwich which was fantastic. The best speakeasy like ever! Located in the back of Butcher & the Boar steakhouse. You walk into the restaurant & say you'd like to go to the Char Bar. They say sure do you know where it is, & I said yes & they let us walk to the back. The speakeasy with typical old school hip hop. This is my fav bar of all time. My best friend since 1999 from undergrad loves this place too! It was his 1st time here tonight. We tried to go here once after brunch one day but the speakeasy was not open yet. I'm a healthcare professional & the decor is made for the type lol! You're surrounded by medicine cabinets floor to ceiling but full of bottles of liquor. My kind of bar. I love it here!!! There is an outpatient clinic Hennepin Health North Loop Clinic a block away. I got the espresso resposado tequilla with no extra sugars (resposado tequila is already naturally sweet from the Agave) which is my jam. They usually do that with vodka but they did resposado tequila for me. A hidden gem in the North Loop! So thankful it's only across the street from me! read more

We were not planning to eat dinner at Char Bar, but our original plans fell through and ever since I have been recommending this experience to ALL of my friends! The speakeasy area is not secretive, but was quiet and felt a more causal than the main dining area. It has unique drinks and food menu, but you are also able to order anything off Butcher and The Boar Menu. We decided to opt for the unique experience and ordered meaty and cheese signature roast beef sandwiches, a fried chicken sandwich, and curly fries -- all were delicious. We had an absolutely amazing host who's recommendations were on point! We were not planning on trying her recommendation of the foot long hot dog, but I am glad it showed up on the table because it was by far my taste buds favorite part of out Char Bar experience! I went to Char Bar with friends and did not know that happy hour was only for the interior which was disappointing because there wasn't room for us inside. I tried the foot long hot dog and there was way too much sauce. The mustard and mayo were way overdone. My friends all enjoyed their food, but I was disappointed in my hot dog. Speakeasy of butcher in the boar (which I've dined in before) I kept it simple and ordered a wedge salad, it was delicious and quite filling because of the large portion and meaty chunks of bacon and bleu cheese. My friend ordered the burger and said it was delicious which is no surprise seeing char bar is a sister restaurant to parlour which is famous for the simply delicious burger. Our waitress and bartender were awesome, we mentioned we probably werent going to love the mocktail choices they had so they whipped us up something delicious. Came to Char Bar for the first time for happy hour on Saturday with Kim T. Char Bar is a speakeasy on the inside of Butcher & Boar (through the glass doors). We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too crazy busy, we were one of a handful of tables. The hour menu was pretty good! A good amount of food and drink items ranging between $6-10. I had the Chicken Sammy ($10), Kim had an Arby's style 3 Way Beef & Cheese sando ($17), and we split the Curly Fries ($6). I also ordered two of the non happy hour burgers to go ($8/each). I really liked my sandwich a lot, chicken was perfectly crispy, the slaw was savory and sweet, Polynesian vibes. I would absolutely get it again! Kim liked her sandwich but she said the sauce was too much and soaked the bottom of the bun, the curly fries were fine. I had a dragon tattoo cocktail, serenity pineapple rum cocktail, and a frozen rum & cherry coke slushy. Drinks were boozy but pricey! Loved the menu showing the drinks very cute and visibly pleasing. Update: Butcher Burger ($8) was sensational! It's no Parlour Bar burger but it's sooo good, tasted gourmet and traveled well. Fun fact: the restaurant group over Parlour Bar also owns Char Bar! My partner and I noticed that Char Bar has a meat raffle on Sundays so we decided to check it out on a whim. We love meat raffles and I think expected a different...vibe, haha, but we're surprised to see a pretty fancy speakeasy. Speakeasy's are my jam! This space was beautiful and warm and it wasn't busy (no other tables, just three at the bar). We sat down and it took a minute to be greeted. When our server came over he brought the menus so we needed a few minutes before we ordered. A few minutes turned into a least 10. When he finally came back with water, we ordered our drinks and fries. Unfortunately that took another 10-15 minutes to come. Our fries were actually served before our drinks. It was frustrating because it wasn't busy, at all. The drinks were tasty and the fries were just okay. Felt like we got the bottom of the batch. The horseradish sauce was good. As we waited for the meat raffle to start, one more table (a larger party of like 6-8) came in, so our server got busy. He didn't come back to the table and actually sent a coworker to check on us. We asked the other server for our bill, she gladly helped us, and had us on our way. It's unfortunate we didn't receive great service. We came here on a recent date night and loved it! It was a little hard to find but someone directed us to it. There was a nice variety of interesting drinks in the lengthy cocktail menu and we loved the drinks we ordered. Very unusual combinations that inspired us to snap some photos and try at home later!
