What an awesome bar with talented and passionate bartenders! Thank you Jane, Colette and Hunter for an awesome evening and for making our work trip to Minnesota so memorable!

The best speakeasy like ever! Located in the back of Butcher & the Boar steakhouse. You walk into the restaurant & say you'd like to go to the Char Bar. They say sure do you know where it is, & I said yes & they let us walk to the back. The speakeasy with typical old school hip hop. This is my fav bar of all time. My best friend since 1999 from undergrad loves this place too! It was his 1st time here tonight. We tried to go here once after brunch one day but the speakeasy was not open yet. I'm a healthcare professional & the decor is made for the type lol! You're surrounded by medicine cabinets floor to ceiling but full of bottles of liquor. My kind of bar. I love it here!!! There is an outpatient clinic Hennepin Health North Loop Clinic a block away. I got the espresso resposado tequilla with no extra sugars (resposado tequila is already naturally sweet from the Agave) which is my jam. They usually do that with vodka but they did resposado tequila for me. A hidden gem in the North Loop! So thankful it's only across the street from me!

We were not planning to eat dinner at Char Bar, but our original plans fell through and ever since I have been recommending this experience to ALL of my friends! The speakeasy area is not secretive, but was quiet and felt a more causal than the main dining area. It has unique drinks and food menu, but you are also able to order anything off Butcher and The Boar Menu. We decided to opt for the unique experience and ordered meaty and cheese signature roast beef sandwiches, a fried chicken sandwich, and curly fries -- all were delicious. We had an absolutely amazing host who's recommendations were on point! We were not planning on trying her recommendation of the foot long hot dog, but I am glad it showed up on the table because it was by far my taste buds favorite part of out Char Bar experience! I am giddy about visiting again to try their burger.

Speakeasy of butcher in the boar (which I've dined in before) I kept it simple and ordered a wedge salad, it was delicious and quite filling because of the large portion and meaty chunks of bacon and bleu cheese. My friend ordered the burger and said it was delicious which is no surprise seeing char bar is a sister restaurant to parlour which is famous for the simply delicious burger. Our waitress and bartender were awesome, we mentioned we probably werent going to love the mocktail choices they had so they whipped us up something delicious. Loved the vibe and the loud music this is a great date night spot.

Came to Char Bar for the first time for happy hour on Saturday with Kim T. Char Bar is a speakeasy on the inside of Butcher & Boar (through the glass doors). We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too crazy busy, we were one of a handful of tables. The hour menu was pretty good! A good amount of food and drink items ranging between $6-10. I had the Chicken Sammy ($10), Kim had an Arby's style 3 Way Beef & Cheese sando ($17), and we split the Curly Fries ($6). I also ordered two of the non happy hour burgers to go ($8/each). I really liked my sandwich a lot, chicken was perfectly crispy, the slaw was savory and sweet, Polynesian vibes. I would absolutely get it again! Kim liked her sandwich but she said the sauce was too much and soaked the bottom of the bun, the curly fries were fine. I had a dragon tattoo cocktail, serenity pineapple rum cocktail, and a frozen rum & cherry coke slushy. Drinks were boozy but pricey! Loved the menu showing the drinks very cute and visibly pleasing. Update: Butcher Burger ($8) was sensational! It's no Parlour Bar burger but it's sooo good, tasted gourmet and traveled well. Fun fact: the restaurant group over Parlour Bar also owns Char Bar! I liked the pickled onions and the chipotle mayo cheese sauce, good solid burger for a good price!

Cocktails were great per my friends, but the mock tail disappointed me; basically same price even without liquor and a bit simple. The sammies were very good. Also loved the interior and service we received.

Speakeasy with amazing ambience and atmosphere. Great place to meet friends and hang out. Not loud, so it's easy to have a conversation. Our servers were all very nice and helpful with our orders. All our drinks were well mixed. The espresso martini was frothy, creamy and bold with flavor. My blonde Russian was made well, good and strong. The curly fries order was a satisfying munchy for our group. Nicely coated and perfectly crunchy on the outside. This is a great place to meet before heading over to the Butcher & The Boar for dinner.

Such lovely, attentive staff, all of our drinks were delicious and the space was a total vibe. 10 out of 10 I would come back and dine again.

FOOD/DRINKS: I will stand by that Char Bar has THE best happy hour in Minneapolis. They have $6 burgers, brats, + fries, along with $6 cocktails, beers, + frozen drinks. That is a STEAL. There is no where else where you can get such a cool vibe and eat only a $6 burger!! So definitely go from 4-6 pm on a weekday to try their yummy food and drinks. SERVICE: No problem with the service- the staff was all very nice. AMBIANCE: The ambiance is AWESOME- looks like a speakeasy in a library!! LOCATION/PARKING: Char Bar is located in the back of Butcher & the Boar, so you can walk through the main entrance and they'll point you the way. Location is great, and street parking is easily available (or paid valet if preferred).

Liked the impossible burger more than the bean patty too Strawberry shake: super flavorful will def get again Cauliflower Lemon pepper beer battered wings (crispy, flavorful, would get again) fries with ranch (tasty without sauce, liked the seasoning tasty with the ranch sauce so good. Will get again) Cooler ranch fries: husband and son really liked this. Would get again but I also like having the ranch sauce too Garlic girl burger (tasty and fun would get again) Chips and sour cream: would get again hubby also liked. But I might be able to make this sour cream myself. Cesar salad: tasty, but not my fave. I did really like the croutons Would return and would get all these items again. Highly recommend. They have QR codes on each table so you can order on your phone, and they have WiFi available. Alternatively, someone can take your order if you'd prefer! For the burgers, you can choose between the impossible patty or the black bean patty. For the chicken sandwiches, you can choose grilled or fried vegan chicken. For beverages, they have cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer, THC drinks, milkshakes, pop, lemonade, and more! There are so many options which is great! The fries are crispy! One of my friends went with the ranch fries which were good, but in my opinion it was not worth the $2 upcharge for the amount of seasoning that comes on them. I would recommend sticking with the regular fries and ordering a side of ranch as a dipping sauce instead! This is the only place that I'm aware of where you can get a vegan juicy lucy! It is very cheesy, and it's fun that there's a meatless version of a MN classic! It was messy to eat though so make sure to have a napkin nearby! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and would go back! I think it's be a great place for hanging out with friends, especially if there are any vegans or vegetarians in the group!

This makes the burger really chewy and you really can't taste the beef anymore like you used to when it was thicker. I would take this as it's not as good as it used to be. It is not as good as the original hype from the beginning. In conclusion, I do not think it's worth the $19. I rather get a cheesesteak for $16 at Tono's which comes with fresh not burnt fries rather than come back here and get a burger here. It's highly unlikely I will be back here. I honestly feel like the burgers have gone way WAY downhill. The fries here have gotten terrible so I stopped getting the fries a long time ago. They are not soft crisp like they used to be. They are too golden brown color, almost like burnt hard fries. I never like to eat down here. I normally would order the Parlour burger upstairs. The basement part which is Parlour has a weird smell like a locker room smell so that's why I don't like to eat down here.

We had no idea where to go, but heard to go down an alleyway behind up-down and then saw a random door that we had no idea was the entrance until another group came over! We knocked and they slid the door hole open to speak, it was so fun! Felt like a real speakeasy. Once we were in, we were seated in the back. There was an hour and 1/2 limit, but that was plenty of time for us to have a drink. I ordered the Me Espresso and my husband ordered the special of the day, which was a scotch with a special twist. Both were delicious! Definitely a little pricier, but the atmosphere made up for the cost. Overall I would definitely recommend! Next time we may wait for a booth to be served out of a window in the wall, did not know about that until we got there! Such a fun touch.

The waiter was nice, but I'm not sure if he was new. He didn't know what the specials were. He didn't know what the wine was. It says on the menu, red or white and he didn't know what either brand was or the food specials on the menu. sometimes it took a while for him to come over because he was chatting up another booth behind us. We ordered the chicken that was on the menu and it was a very small piece of chicken and it was supposed to come with broccolini and there was three skinny little stalks, and there was some kind of purée underneath it. Not sure if that was potatoes or what, but the chicken had a very good flavor. It was just very small. That's my complaint on that so we ended up ordering the sweet potato fries and that was a good portion and very good. I would definitely order those again.
