Pachi Mirchi Paneer Biryani - was one of my favorites perfectly spiced, flavorful, and the paneer was delicious. Definitely a must-try for paneer and biryani lovers! Kakatiya Kobari Chicken Pulav - was another standout. The coconut flavor combined with the spices and tender chicken made it really different from the usual pulao/biryani options. Absolutely loved it! And the desserts and drinks deserve a special mention The Apricot Delight was rich, creamy, and delicious. The Sitaphal Shake and Chikoo Shake tasted fresh and were perfect after a spicy meal. The faloodas are a must try too We tried the Mango Masti Falooda and Royal Falooda, and both were refreshing, creamy, and loaded with flavor. Overall, Hashtag India is a great place in Milpitas if you're craving flavorful Indian food along with some amazing Indian desserts, shakes, and faloodas. I came across their non-vegetarian lunch combo, which comes with two curries, basmati rice, naan, raita, and even a gulab jamun for dessert! I love that it includes pretty much everything you could want in a meal. When ordering, you can choose between plain naan, butter naan, extra rice, or upgrade to garlic naan for an additional $1, which is what I went with. You also get to pick two curries, so I chose the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. Both were fantastic! I did notice the curries had a little more heat than most Indian restaurants I've tried. I personally love spicy food, so the extra kick didn't bother me at all. However, when I couldn't finish my meal and offered some to my daughter, she took a few bites and found it way too spicy for her. More for me, I guess! Since I was starving and didn't feel like waiting for delivery, I decided to pick up my order instead. When I arrived, the restaurant was packed! That's when I discovered they offer an everyday lunch buffet for $19.99, which even includes a can of soda or beer. Definitely something I need to come back and try! I actually enjoyed the food so much that I ordered the lunch combo again over the weekend! This time, I also added an order of saag paneer. I was hoping their vegetarian lunch combos would have saag or palak paneer as one of the curry options, but unfortunately, neither was available. I do wish they offered palak paneer instead of saag paneer, though, since that's my personal preference. If they did, I could honestly see myself ordering from here every week! Between the generous portions, delicious curries, complete lunch combo, and DoorDash discounts, I thought it was a great value. Everything I've tried so far has been really good, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to check out their lunch buffet!

It's been sitting there for a while, so the wifey and I finally decided to drive down to Milpitas and give this Thali place a try. I'm glad we did because their Thali is probably one of the best we've had, if not the best. FYI Thali is LUNCH only. Here is my take. Food (4.5 stars) +The Combo Thali for around $18 is the way to go. Don't overthink it and don't order anything else. You get a little bit of everything, which is exactly why we like Thali. If there's something you don't like, just give it to your partner. My wife doesn't like lamb, so I ended up with double lamb. Bonus for me! + Lamb curry was probably my favorite. Tender meat with a flavorful curry and it went perfectly with the rice. Since my wife donated hers to me, I had plenty! + Fried fish is also very good. You don't get a huge piece, but with so many other things on the plate, it's enough. That's the beauty of Thali--you get a few bites of everything instead of committing to one giant dish. + Chicken curry was also good. Nothing on the plate really needs to be eaten by itself because everything complements each other. You get savory, spicy, sour and even a little sweet throughout the meal. + There are also the usual Thali sides like dal, sumbar, yogurt, dessert and another sour/soupy dish. Rice sits right in the middle and you basically mix and match your way through the entire plate. + I also really like the papadum. It's that thin crispy Indian cracker that gives you a nice crunchy break between all the curries and softer foods. ~ PRO TIP: The only thing to consider is whether you prefer a Thali or an Indian buffet. At a buffet, you can essentially get many of these same types of dishes and eat as much as you want. With a Thali, you're getting smaller portions of everything. Personally, I like the variety and having everything served together, especially when the combo is only around $18. Service/Ambiance (4.5 stars) + We came during lunch and there was only one other customer while we were there, so service was good and the food came out rather quickly. + The restaurant has some really nice paintings along the walls. Some of the scenery almost looked Mediterranean to me, although I'm assuming they're depicting places somewhere in India. Either way, they add some character to the restaurant. + It's a comfortable, casual place to sit down and enjoy a Thali without much fuss. GET THE COMBO! You get fish, lamb, chicken, rice, dal, sides, dessert and all the little extras that make eating Thali fun. Between the two of us, if one person doesn't like something, the other person probably will. In my case, that strategy resulted in double lamb, so I definitely wasn't complaining. Wifey gives Vande Bharat 4.5 stars and I'm right there with her. For the price, variety and flavors, this is easily one of our favorite Thali meals we've had. Yelp got this recommendation right!

I never got there, but my husband raved about it from business dinners. Our birthday honoree wanted to come here. One of us is vegetarian, another GF and very allergic to solanaceae, and two don't eat fish. Usually Pakistani & eastern Asian cuisine is a good choice. Three of us had masala chai, served in traditional glazed clay cups: I think cardamom was the top note. Ginger's the top note, followed by cardamom when I make it. It was blissful. I have been wanting to try pani puri for a while, but don't think the delicate shells would survive delivery. Mouthgasms ensued from everyone. Next time I'm in an Indian restaurant, I'm getting that, as it was as tasty as it looks. Samosas were ordered to share, and again, we were all happy. Because of the high simple carbs, I don't eat the usual one, but half of one was heavenly. Garlic naan & papad(ums) were ordered. They were the most flavorful papad I've ever tasted: don't know what the additional ingredient was, but I will certainly order that again. I asked our server, who might have been a manager, how many papadums were in an order. The answer was three, but he'd add a fourth. It took us a while to choose entrees, and when we made our order, he looked at each of us, confirmed what we ordered--with no note pad. I was impressed. I had the achari chicken kebab, absolutely wonderful spicing, with plenty of onion strips, nicely browned just short of caramelized. Our vegetarian ordered saag paneer, the honoree had her favorite butter chicken, and the fourth ordered seekh kebab. We usually get a taste of each other's dishes, except the vegetarian, because meat. We were very appreciative and enthusiastic of what we'd ordered. We couldn't have made our enjoyment more clear. For dessert, we ordered an intense Malai (mango) kulfi, gulab jamun (dough balls in a honey sauce), too sweet for me, but still pleasant, and rasmalai, a sweet dough in a milky sauce, spiced with saffron, rosewater, cardamom, and pistachios. We were treated to a plate of jalebi, which resembles funnel cakes, in a honey sauce. I've seen these at a Persian market, but don't know the name. For all we ordered, the bill was modest, about $114. We added an ample tip. This was the absolute best Indian food I've ever had! We had such a lovely time. One thing I wish restaurants would do is to put their full menu online, instead of just popular items for delivery or pick-up. It gives you more incentives to dine in!

Indian Canteen, Milpitas -- A Bollywood-Style Feast Worth the Wait…read more Ambience & Vibe Walk in and you're greeted by a wall-to-wall tribute to Bollywood--bright movie posters, upbeat Hindi tunes, and on weekend nights, live musicians who turn the dining room into a mini film-set concert. Traditional low tables invite you to kick off your shoes and settle onto floor cushions, instantly adding a cozy, almost homestyle feel. What We Ordered * Chicken Mandi - A show-stopping platter of fragrant basmati rice crowned with perfectly roasted chicken. The portion is generous (see photo!) and the spice profile leans savory-warm rather than tongue-scorching, so everyone at the table can dig in. * Mutton Curry - I rarely gamble on mutton when eating out, but this one converted me. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a rich, slow-cooked gravy that balanced heat with a gentle hint of clove and cardamom. Absolutely outstanding. Service & Pace There's a sign at the entrance: "This is not fast food. Great taste takes time." Believe it. Dishes are cooked to order, so expect a leisurely wait. The staff checks in just enough to keep you updated, and once the platters hit the table you'll agree the patience tax is totally justified. Pro Tips 1. Go with friends--the mandi platter is made for sharing. 2. Weekends mean live music; arrive a bit early if you want prime floor-seat real estate. 3. Plan for 20-30 minutes from order to first bite; use the time to soak in the music and décor. Bottom Line Indian Canteen's mix of Bollywood flair, floor seating, and from-scratch cooking turns dinner into an experience. If you're craving authentic mandi and a mutton curry , mark this spot on your Milpitas food map--and don't forget to bring your patience and your camera.
