My latest visit reminded me why I usually avoid this post office. This location seems understaffed for the high volume of customer traffic. I came to drop off some prepaid packages. Parking was challenging and treacherous--every spot was full despite it being a weekday morning, and people were pulling out from in front of the store right into the lane for drive-thru letter drop off. Once I got inside, the box for prepaid mail was locked, presumably because it was full. There was a line of almost 10 customers waiting, with only two busy employees doing their best to handle the queue. I left my boxes in a pile on the front counter with other prepaid mail. But I honestly considered leaving and going to another post office, because everything here seemed so disorganized. read more

I had an encounter today with the Postmaster at this office, and I can say without doubt that he was atrociously unprofessional. I was agitated and angry over the slow service (the service is always VERY SLOW at this location) and I wanted to complain. But instead of trying to calm me down and hear me out, and let me just let off steam, he immediately went into defensive overdrive and started lecturing me about how he won't be "bullied" and how would I like it if he came to my house and banged on my door (I had banged on his door to get him to come out) -- as if I had the power to do anything other than complain. As I tried to speak, he kept repeating, "May I help you?" and would not stop talking when I started talking, even when I told him that all I wanted to do was to be heard out. After a few minutes of this, I finally managed to get him to quiet down and let me express myself. I took no longer than 30 seconds to speak my mind -- i.e., that I thought that the post office was delivering awful service, that this has been going on for years and years -- and then moved to leave. But instead of letting it go, he snarled that I could have said all that at the start! The man who would not let me speak and who kept complaining that my voice was too loud, and how he won't be disrespected, and so on and so forth. When I told him that I am a tax payer and he is a federal employee and that his salary is paid by my dollars, he said, 'No, it doesn't.' Amazing. In other words: The man is not familiar with the most knowledge on how to handle an angry customer. Again, instead of de-escalating, he made it personal and turned it into a tug of egos. As in: 'I am not going to let YOU push ME around.' In any case, with this kind of awful leadership, no wonder that this post office is always a mess. Slow, understaffed, and the attendants (there are exceptions), like their leader, are mostly curt, impatient, arrogant, and show little empathy or kindness. They rarely smile. The whole outfit needs some solid training in handling customers. In any case, I am making it as my pet project to get that postoffice upgraded by channeling my energies to engaging with the higher ups at USPS to get that operation under new management. read more

Agree wholeheartedly with all the negative reviews. There are a few folk who work here, and the experience is almost entirely dependent on who you have. Today we had an African-American woman who was just unnecessarily rude. She had berated multiple customers as we were in line and then proceeded to do the same to us. Expecting us to know things we had come to ask questions about, being overtly hasty and rude. As if we were expected to know all the mailing options we had specifically come to inquire about. It's a shame. This is supposed to be an institution that makes people feel safe in sending their mail, but we left feeling entirely less than that. Would highly recommend to avoid this office until personnel get a major reboot. Shame on you USPS. read more

I go here quite a bit. Prices are much better than other vendors for boxes like Priority mail. I find the agents to be very patient with the elderly who come in for a chat. They will propose cheaper mailing options when available. Construction workers and folks who work in other buildings do clog the parking lot, as the USPS doesn't seem to enforce the restrictions (they might incur nasty reviews!). I always keep a roll of tape in my car, and a pen in my pocket, as it holds up everyone when you don't properly prepare your mailing. This place has low ratings for a reason. Yes, the parking is bad, the interior of the area is...displeasing, certainly, but it's the employees that make it awful. Or, more specifically, a particular employee that I've seen mentioned in these negative reviews-and now I know why. There is an Asian lady who works here, and she is rude. She doesn't wear a name tag (I wonder why), so I cannot identify her by name. However, when I came in today to mail a big envelope, I was ready with my stamps-I just needed to know how many to put on the envelope. I told her this, however, she was wearing AIRPODS so I don't even know if she could hear me. Then, she proceeds to tell me how much it would cost. I try telling her that I have the stamps, and just want to know how many to put on. She repeats herself over and over again, writes down the cost on a piece of paper, instructs me to do the math myself, and brings her attention to the next customer. It's sad that this lady gives such a bad name to this place-other employees, like Natalia (I believe is her name), are so kind, hence my 2 starts instead of 1. Try to get her if you can! read more

I found it to be a modern, large, clean post office. The staff were friendly and there was a lot of parking. However it seems like it can get easily crowded due to being a hIgh density area, namely McLean. Overall though it felt comfortable and in line with what you'd expect for McLean. read more

I've never had such a negative experience at a post office. An absolutely filthy office. Staff that looks like they haven't bathed in months. Absolutely apathetic and it's only 9 am. No pens anywhere. No scissors. Forget about tape. They all look like they are doing you a fucking favor by even talking to you at all. Do not bother with this place at all. Go next door to Fedex. They are courteous, fast and have all of their supplies ready for customers to use. read more

I hate this post office. The people aren't friendly. It's almost as if you're bothering them by being in their facility and mailing something. Parking is awful. By the time people get to the line, they aren't friendly either. They likely did three loops to get a parking spot and dodged several people and vehicles in the process. Counter service is fine; the employees are for the most part friendly and efficient. But the mail forwarding service from this post office is abysmal. I travel frequently for lengthy periods, and when I do, I submit an online forwarding order. Invariably, my neighbors will tell me that despite the forwarding order, mail continues to be delivered at my old address, and they have to collect it and send it to me. The usual excuse offered by the McLean PO is either, "we haven't received the forwarding order" (even though I have received a confirmation from the USPS), or "the regular carrier wasn't on your route." read more

This has become one of my favorite post offices due to this kick ass automated machine. You can buy stamps, ship small and medium sized packages and other stuff while the post office is closed. Great if you can't stop by during normal business hours or if you don't have time to wait in line. Be nice to this machine when you use it, pick ip your litter and don't abuse it. Why? Well you can be considerate of other users by picking up your trash...but the real reason is just in case SkyNet becomes self aware and decides to wipe us humans out, this machine may remember your kindness. I'm pretty sure it's against centuries-old traditions and Yelp terms of service to write a good review for a post office, but I'm just going to write what my experience was. I've stopped by here a few times. The parking lot is busy often, but there's a lot of parking spots, so it's never been completely full. The package delivery is right near the door, so it's easy to just drop something off. Something about the lighting is off in the area where the staff is. They have mirrors around for some reason, too, so it doesn't have a very relaxing environment. I think if they toned down the lights a little and got rid of the mirrors, people would be more relaxed when they go in. The staff I spoke with were polite and helpful. They gave me recommendations for delivering the mail I wanted to send, so everything was simple and straight forward. The post office is located in a quiet part of McLean, which I like, because a lot of post offices seem to have the worst and most crowded locations. This one, fortunately, isn't like that. read more

Customer service here is really bad. Considering the situation. I left work to drop off a package today, 12:00pm, to be within the 28-day grace period for a refund. I asked the Asian lady if there was anything particular I needed to use to package my items because I was given a pre-paid label. She pointed that I needed to buy an envelope and place my items. OK cool, I did that. But I needed some tape to attach my pre-paid label. I asked if I could use piece of tape that was sitting behind her. She told me NO. Considering I just purchase the envelope to package the items, I thought it was very inconsiderate. I asked why and she said I needed to purchase a roll of tape for $5. So I needed to purchase $5 worth of tape to tape my pre-paid label to the envelope that would require AT THE VERY LEAST 2 pieces of tape. VERY INCONSIDERATE AND WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. read more

I submitted a paper card to have my mail forwarded while I was going to be away for an undetermined amount of time for a family member illness. A month later I still hadn't received my forwarded mail, and lo an behold the letter carrier had never received it from the post office. This place is your typical post office. Cranky attendants, mailing supplies strewn about after hours, and a drop box that is always jammed. I do go here to do my package drop offs after work after selling items on eBay. However, due to the high traffic it can get sometimes due to its proximity to the McLean shopping center, I prefer to avoid it for counter operations. Then again, I prefer to avoid just about every post office for counter operations - but it's a necessary evil I guess. Meh. read more

Warning. Do not expect your hold mail to be restarted as you asked for in your hold request. I've asked for mail to be held twice and both times delivery has not be resumed as requested. From now on I will simply go pick up my hold mail at the PO. I don't know where problem is in the system but the system is broken. read more

Two times we have been out of the country, put in mail holds--both cards and online--well in advance, but our mail carrier kept stuffing mail in our street mailbox. People could have stolen our mail or ROBBED OUR HOUSE when they saw tons of mail in our box. I called the McLean Post Office and the person answering said there was no yellow card on our bin. I also submitted a mail hold online. She said she would notify our carrier. These people are incompetent but very good at accepting salaries paid by our taxes. read more

In and out in under 3 minutes. I came in within the last 20 minutes before closing I honestly was expecting a long line. Two registers were open and an employee assisting people in the line and checking out with her hand held machine she was very polite and helpful to me. I wish I could remember her name! Some say the bureaucracy is the most powerful part of government. I have seen absolutely great postal workers and lying despicable ones. One letter carrier was disciplined for cutting his grass on company time. I once had a roll of nearly 100 stamps, The first time I tried to exchange for new ones I was told too bad, I thought was wrong and put them away, later upon trying again, a different worker said All I needed to do was glue (tape?) them to a piece of paper and he would give me credit or cash. 1 star would be a gift. We have had an ongoing problem with delivery after a "hold." Our mail carrier, at least 90% of the time, stops delivery 1 day early and delivers one day late. The time before this one it was 3 days late- despite repeated calls. Then the deliverer asks why we don't give him/her a holiday present! read more

I hope that I can give this place zero star. I moved to this area two months ago. A vietnamese woman in the front desk is terrible. She has a short hair, is very thin, and does not wear glasses, and is always sits on second right seat when you walked into this post office. She speaks very poor English, does not smile and always rude. I had a prepaid media mail package which weighted for 5 pounds, after she weighted it, the package weighted 5 pounds and 8 ounces. She told me that the package might send back to me due to postage issue. I told her that I would pay extra cost for the package. She refused my request and said that the package would not come back. Ten days later, the package sent back to me and there were a yellow dot and a label for the shortage postage on the package. I went other post offices before, if there was a postage issue, they ususlly let me to pay extra. I think that she put the yellow dot and the label for the shortage postage on my package after I left the post office. She may have a lot of fun to see the package to be returned back and this was why she did these dirty things after the customer left. She might do this for other customers too. Please pay an attention to this vietnamese woman and do not let her to mail your package. read more

Wow, I almost feel a little better seeing everyone else's reviews here. I'm glad I'm not the only one who received horrible service. The woman I got at the counter was exceptionally rude; when I asked her to check to see if I'd filled out the customs form for my package correctly, she actually raised her voice at me. I've gotten poor service at post offices before, but I've never been made to feel this unwelcome and like being a customer there was an absolute burden on the clerk. I rarely do reviews but think the unbelievably lousy service at this office is worth reviewing. I requested forwarding service a month ago - two weeks before I needed it to start - through the USPS website. Received a confirmation notice the same day. I have still received NO forwarded mail despite a phone assurance two weeks ago that the forwarding process had begun. Called today to see what was wrong. Was put on hold for 15 minutes. Hung up. Called back. Mr. Kim, who answered, took my information. When I asked for confirmation that the forwarding was occurring, he laughed. I told him I wanted confirmation that the carrier was no longer delivering my mail and that the forwarding process had begun. He laughed again but said he would speak with the carrier. I asked him to call me back to confirm that this had occurred. He seemed to think this was odd but took my number and called me back. It appeared from this call that the carrier had never been informed of the need to stop delivering my personal mail and had continued to do so. I am now told that the forwarding will begin. Three weeks late. Disorganized, unprofessional and disrespectful service. read more
