4/5 I normally only come to the Post Office to print a label from a QR code from an online placed order. Today I found out I can skip the line and just use the self kiosk, just the option to print from QR code was tucked away under 'label broker'. This self-kiosk seems to have more functionality now (can order stamps too), which is great to see. Wish there were more of them. Pros: +a few self kiosks that can print a label from a QR code (label broker option) +organized +ample packing supplies +staff tried to periodically see if people can just use the self kiosks vs waiting in line +plenty of parking -PO boxes Cons: -staff can be a bit apathetic but that's kinda typical USPS -could have more staff working at the counter to speed things us -parking is a bit cramped -self service kiosk scanner wasn't working when I was there read more

The Merrifield Post Office, using post office logic, removed all but one small drop box in the drive-thru lane. And without adding pickup times, this remaining box rapidly fills up. This morning, I stopped to mail four items, and found that the box was stuffed full. Not wanting to leave my items exposed to whatever, I tried retrieving them. Along with them came half a dozen of other people's mail items. Being a good citizen, I did the post office's work. Entering through the only operating door (for at least the last week), I dropped the entire batch inside. This would be a classic example of Zohran Mandami's definition of bureaucratic complacency on the part of the post office. The Merrifield Post Office is beyond disreputable and dysfunctional. My only reason for using it is convenience, but even that is becoming shaky. read more

UPDATE: Had to come ship a package in person and once again, still slow as ever. Waited in line for 25 minutes. Guess when you work for USPS there's no need for accountability. Awful. Hate having to come drop off and ship any packages. The staff is very slow, including sauntering around. Waited 20 minutes to ship a package while the employees literally wandered around and were joking laughing with each other and only 2 people were at the registers. read more

I have been coming to this location for years. YEARS! Sometimes the lines are long and sometimes they move at a brisk clip. What do you want, it's the post office for crying out loud. Regardless of line length, I always find the staff to be helpful, patient, and courteous. Today, I showed up with a rather large problem and it turned out to be my own fault. I was treated with grace and civility, and was offered solutions. Everybody can have a bad day, but most of the time my experiences at the Merrifield Post Office have been positive. read more

Absolutely horrible! I ordered a package from Manassas VA, it got to Merrifield, where it has remained unscanned for two weeks! I've called multiple times, filed missing mail reports! The people who work there are completely useless and sound so miserable!! Why would a woman call me in response to my report to "update" me by simply telling me "it is still in transit"!! There's a reason no one uses USPS anymore. The gentleman working at the desk is very rude and could use a lesson in customer service. Don't work in a customer facing field if you can't treat people the way that you would want to be treated. Kindness goes a long way. After all the awful post office experiences I've been having at my local post office, this was a breath of fresh air. There are about 3 or 4 self-service kiosks here. If you're capable of using them and your envelope/package allows for it, DO IT. It saves so much time than having to wait in line and this place had a LONG line. I had to mail out a bubble mailer which I thought was a package...it's not, it's a large envelope. Saving anyone else's confusion because truthfully I was. I got frustrated, waited in line, pep talked myself to try again at the self-service kiosk, and figured it out. More USPS places need these little time-saviors! read more

The Merrifield USPS location is the central hub for Northern Virginia, and logically has extended lobby service hours. Discovering this was a game changer for mailing and shipping outside typically restrictive USPS working hours. Having a 9-5 job doesn't really gel with typical hours...and it's even worse when the demands 9-9 or even longer. Definitely much more convenient, faster service, and even more friendly than most. People often wonder why USPS has trouble keeping their operating budget "in the black," can look to Merrifield as a model to follow to ensure greater profitability. Extend all branch hours, bring back 24hr self-service mailing and shipping kiosks and FedEx, UPS and DHL will have some real competition. Keep up the good work Merrifield! read more

1/28/22 Today I sent out my Christmas gifts to my long distance family members. It cost $45.25 to get both items sent out, but it had to be done. I wanted my family members to think I wasn't sending anything out this year and I don't think they will see these gifts coming. As I was getting ready to send the gifts out, it became clear had put in the wrong digit for the postal code. Evidently I was very sleep when I did the address and nearly had my packages going to North Carolina instead of Seattle Washington. I am glad the error was caught before the packages were sent out. While this small but huge error was being corrected, I heard the sounds of someone not having a good day at the moment. Nevertheless, I hope the guy gets the problem taken care of. Although the guy did have an issue I have thought about for a long time. When a person does signature service, ID didn't get get checked when the package arrives at its destination. This is what the guy was having issues with. Still, I had a positive experience here and I will be back again at a later date. read more

Sometimes it's hit or miss but usually the staff here are exceptionally nice. Maybe a little bit nosey (e.g. when you apply to school, they will wish you luck). But they do the best they can with what they are given and the difficult customers they get. They light up a little when you come back and tell them you got into the school they helped you send the letter for. read more

Short take: this is my favorite post office. I will drive from Rockville to mail things here. Longer: this location is usually busy all day. There will be a line for counter service, sometimes a very long one. However, my last few experiences have been fairly smooth considering how many people were there. They keep the line moving without making you feel rushed. One of my favorite features of this location are the self-service kiosks. They are the best! Other locations, like the Shady Grove Office in Gaithersburg, MD regularly break down. And even when they are 'working' at Shady Grove, they don't really work. The 'auto-ruler' feature never works. The Merrifield machines are fast, the scales and rulers always work automatically (although you always have a manual ruler option). They process credit cards quickly. It's the best you can ask for when you don't want to wait in line for the counter or if it's after closing. Another cool feature I haven't seen elsewhere is the special scan/tracking package drop-box. You can scan your label, deposit the package in the generously sized package drop area, and once you close the gate it prints a tracking receipt. Take-away: I've mailed letters from the Shady Grove location, another major sorting center, and they can take days to get down the street. I mailed a package from Merrifield, VA at 7:30pm last night (March 2nd) and it reached West Minster, MD before 1:30pm today (March 3rd)! I didn't pay for anything special, just basic postage for a 1lb box. Bravo! read more

The Merrifield Distribution Center is terrible and frequently does not deliver all the mail I'm supposed to be getting for a particular day. Or, they hold on to a package for a day-and-a-half instead of getting it out. I have USPS Informed Delivery, and I was supposed to be getting three pieces of mail today (August 17, 2024). I got two of the three pieces (two ads), and the one thing that didn't get delivered--a check! Naturally, that's what they don't deliver! It's not as though I had a lot of mail today and they couldn't get it all sorted. It's ridiculous that this keeps happening, and it always seems to be something important that doesn't get put on the truck. I finally gave up paying bills by check because USPS became so unreliable, but there's nothing I can do when they don't deliver when they should. What is their problem?! read more

It works. You'll pay less than UPS or Fed Ex, but the USPS doesn't have their efficiency. Plus it's about as friendly as the DMV. This one can get really busy, and with entitled people acting entitled, be sure to bring some popcorn. I do feel bad for the employees, who deal with these Kevin and Karen types daily. They I have no idea, somehow do this all the time. As mentioned most often the price efficient choice. To their credit they also have a 99% delivery success rate. It might take another day, and tracking is no where as modern as other folks. On a plus note too great hours. They do have passport appointments but call ahead. Can't make this up. That day came and went it and it changed to "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility." and its last scan was at this location.... 2 weeks ago. I have been going through hoops trying to get ahold of people, filing requests and claims. To be totally honest I was a bit annoyed the line to get into this Post Office was out in the parking lot. I understand the 6 ft apart rule. But it was taking way too long....so I had waited about 20 minutes to just step inside. Now at least I can see whats going on. Three sometimes they were four clerks working the windows. It was just taking all sorts of time for just one to be finished. Looked like no one was prepared when they arrived at the window. There was a worker directing customers to move here and there. I asked where the labels were. He said sorry no more, write the address on your box. I did to be ready for mailing when my turn came to be. Waiting and waiting --- Finally another 15 minutes. I'm at the window this lady was all smiles....and very friendly. She looked at my package I told the her ...no more labels the gentleman over there told me to write on the box. This is a very light box, you could use a smaller one for less postage. I turned and pointed showing her there wasn't much to choose from. She said I'll be right back. She returned with a much smaller box, actually the size I originally had in mind. She even gave me a label .... Janet was very friendly and helpful. I was at this location today to get my passport. For several personal reasons I did go to this place three times and it has nothing to do with the staff. I have noticed one of the staff Miss Nimo. I had a chance to watch her through almost whole day of her work and I can tell that people like her make this post office an amazing to visit. Love this Post Office. Yes, there are differences. Large, convenient parking lot. Easy access to passport and mail areas. Drive through drop off mail boxes. Lobby area has all kinds of self-serve items. There are several staff windows to help customers take care of transactions smoothly and quickly. If it gets crowded, more will show up and help out front. Staff have always been knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, even when it's really crowded and hectic. COVID precautions and distancing observed. (Thank you!) And if you really want to help the Post Office -- fill out those surveys on the receipts. Local Illinois Post Office explained they do get read -- and make a difference. read more

After researching cost to ship a large package I decided to go with the US Postal Service. Today is Sat so I went to merrifield it is open later. USPS is the postal service for every man. It is less costly."Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Haaaaaaaaaaa. When my boyfriend and I arrived at the merrifield location a man walked up to us and said "you cant ship that here. You can not ship anything over 70 lbs." you need to go to another place. The package was 54 lbs. We said it is not that heavy. He directed us to a woman at a separate office counter. She said "I'm not touching that" did not weigh it did not measure it. called to the next person in line ignoring us. Unprofessional, no pride in their work. Mailing an insured priority mail package to Canada was apparently very challenging for the postal clerk that served me. I truly think she had no idea what she was doing. I normally do not leave negative feedback for anything however, I have had two run-ins with the supposed "manager", Terrence at this USPS location. The first case was during the holiday season, after filing a written complaint and having spoke with the marketing director I was told that I am not the first to complain regarding Mr.Terrence and that this was definitely something he needed to deal with and by the beginning of 2021 Terrence would no longer be on his team. We found this not to be the case because we frequent this post office nearly once a week. Obviously we've noticed he is still there but have done our best to ignore him and ignoring him seemed to have worked out pretty well for us on our previous post office visits until this visit we made tonight. We patiently waited in line this evening for about 20 mins as we listened to Mr Terence rudely talk down to other customers three different times as he normally does. We tried to get two customs declaration forms to complete for two different international packages we wanted to ship which would have been roughly $80 worth of postage. There were no customs forms anywhere to be found in the lobby. We had to wait in line to be able to get the customs forms from the clerk at the front counter. The clerk would not let us fill the 2 forms out without us having to wait back in line again. I said "the forms were not out front like they are supposed to be" she said "oh really, that's weird, here you go, please go fill them out and come back" in response I said, "you are wanting us to fill these out and wait back in line again?" She said "yes you have to". I told her "please I could fill these forms out in a minute I do them all the time I know how to complete them". The clerk ignored me and called Terrence over 3 times. I told the clerk "okay go ahead call Terrence" . Terence told me I need to go wait back in line if she says that I need to. I said "I'm not going to go wait in line for another half hour to get back up here just because these forms were not already out here to be filled out when they should have been to begin with". He pointed at the front door and said "if you don't like it there's the door". I walked towards the door and called him an a hole. He told me to watch my mouth, I said "why are you still working here I already filed a written complaint regarding you and already spoke with your marketing director, as a matter of fact I'm going to call him tomorrow morning again after this" he said "go ahead call him" as I was walking out I said "you're just some 1099 contractor that thinks he's above everyone else that's why you keep talking to people here like they are trash" and I called him a p as I walked out the door. I am a 30 year old man, I work 10 hour days in a call center with clients all day, I know how customer service works and this guy needs to move on to better things where the last thing he does is have to talk to customers. The last thing anyone wants after having a long day at work is to have to come to the post office and be treated like a lesser human being when you are paying them to provide you with service and conduct business with them. As the others have mentioned, Janet, Rupert and Paul are the best this place has to offer, as a matter of fact I actually did think that Janet ran this place as that's how friendly and efficient she is at her job! unfortunately, if Terrence is considered the leadership of this facility then I would leave negative stars if possible. read more

My mom & I arrived here around 4:15am & were the first ones there. We both needed to get our passports and she had come alone the week before and tickets were all gone (I believe they only give out 125-130 tickets). After half an hour or so a few more people arrived, then around 7:00am it got packed with people who brought their foldable chairs and blankets. Let me tell you, COME PREPARED. It was early in the morning so it was chilly and after sitting in that for a few hours you feel it. The passport office doesn't open until 9:00am, but we wanted to get done and jet out of there as fast as we could. Once we got our tickets (#1 & #2) we were helped a minute after by a lovely associate named Chumming, she made the process painless and was very nice (we asked tons of questions). I definitely recommend arriving as early as possible and to be prepared to wait hours, there isn't a public restroom onsite so don't consume tons of liquid! Dress appropriately and bring something to do, it gets boring after a while. read more

Like a few reviewers said, "I never thought I would be reviewing a post office" -- but I've received exceptional service here every time I visit, I just had to review it! I only go to USPS when I need to purchase stamps for work or when I have to ship something out. Although I could go to the USPS around the corner from my house, I would rather go before/after work to this location (it's down the street from my work) because the service is THAT much better. There are plenty of staff working at the counter (there's usually one, maybe two max at the one I go to in Springfield) and sometimes there's even someone standing there to answer your questions! The staff is professional, friendly, and are readily available to answer any questions you may have. I mailed a package that became lost in transit (that's a whole different story) and Consumer Affairs from this location was super patient and did whatever they could to help me track it. For those who live/work in the Falls Church area, this is the post office you need to go to if you want quick service! read more

Great Post Office, with not so great people! The post office is great because it's large, has great hours, and even allows you to scan in your own items and get a receipt. However, some of the people who work here are so incredibly nasty!! They literally go out of their way to be mean. I've been told it's a power trip but it doesn't make it feel any better when it's happening to you or when you are witnessing it happening to others.- especially when they seem to take great pleasure in publicly humiliating people! The more crowded, the more enjoyment they seem to take!! They will raise their voices and embarrass people whenever given the opportunity! And they have this thing about ganging up on people. They really like to do things in threes! That being said, it's the only post office I'm aware of in the area that is open on Sundays and until 8:00 PM during the week. My recommendation is come here when your items are already set with their postage on them. Print it out online! If all you need to do is drop off something, then you won't have to deal with the people and you can just enjoy the convenience this place offers otherwise read more

Alright people if you like waiting in lines this is the place to be. This is the only passport place I found that takes walk ins day of. So I recommend coming early or you'll wait can be between 2 to 4 hours guarantee. So I came here to get my passport since I lost mine awhile back. Wish I didn't so I didn't have to do this process. So you need to be really early to finish quick and get out. I got here roughly a little before 6 am on a Wednesday morning and was the fourth in line. I brought a lawn chair and a book to kill time. Only bathroom available is at gas station so make sure you use the bathroom elsewhere if you don't prefer going there. A line starts to build closer to 7 am. Doors do not open until 9 am in which each person will receive a numbered ticket. You must get a ticket for each person getting their passport done! If you lose ticket your shit out of luck. Inside a man told us what to expect and how the whole process will happen. Good to know for anyone going THEY DO NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS as a form of payment. You must pay with either CASH, CHECK, or DEBIT CARD. I paid with cash. The process for me took roughly 10 to 15 minutes. I had already typed up paperwork to hand in and did passport photos elsewhere. I believe the person who helped me name was CHUNMING. She was polite and made sure I had all the necessary signed documents needed for completion. I paid roughly $138.75 which includes post office fee of $25.00 and a state fee roughly about $110.75. I did not expedite my passport. I'm not sure what the price difference is for that. So when doors opened at 9 I was finished close to 930. When I left the main passport room, it was filled and almost the whole post office lobby next to it. No matter what you do if you come early you'll be in a line, but later on you'll be in a longer line. I recommend coming early to be in and out. I was thankful it wasn't rainy or to sunny. Please check weather before doing this Incase of rain or bad weather. There isn't any spots to retreat under if bad weather occurs. All in all, I'll make sure I won't lose my passport again and have to repeat this process. read more

No customer service. I dropped 16 packages here on 12/14 and two have never been scanned or left the facility. Calling and emailing and only receive canned responses. USPS needs to conduct a sweep of the plant for packages that have been sitting there for two plus weeks. read more

I returned the next day to try to get our daughter's passport. Once again, the information given is crap. The website says open at 12PM. We arrive at 11:40AM. The facility is FULL. Our number is #61 and they are already serving #18. Apparently, they've been open since 11. Once again, all the information via the phone, website, and printed on the door is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!! Do not believe these people. I thought the last passport experience I had two years ago was terrible (when I made an appointment only to have them screw that up but still get me in) but this by far and away is a total clusterf***. Don't put information out there that is false, then claim that it is true and then randomly change it! I wish I could give this place ZERO stars. read more

The worst management at this office! The Manager, Terrance, was extremely rude to me by calling out my service animal and yelled at me saying that animals are not allowed. I offered to show him my paperwork to prove the my small doggie was a service animal, but, he did not want to see it and spoke yelling over me forcing me to leave with my dog. I was completely humiliated, especially with the many people who stood in line watching the whole scene. In addition, he made me go to the back of the line again after putting my dog in the car. The mail service is the worst that I have ever seen and I have lived in multiple cities around the country. I don't care of the reason, I just don't get mail for days when I know I have mail coming (through informed delivery). Honestly probably the worst customer service experience i have ever received. The staff at the front was very condescending and the passport office lady named gloria was even worse. It was hard to understand her and she visually kept getting annoyed. I was there i ask how i renew my passport and they kept dismissing saying i didn't need it. Here's my review which will focus on those needing passports at this location only. Went on Sat, 4/1/17 to obtain a first time passport. No appt is necessary but keep reading. Caution: Please call the post office first and listen to their recording on passport times and everything involved before even driving to this location. As of 4/1/17, their passport hours are from 9 AM to 12 PM. You must, again, must get there extremely early because they only take 100 people and then they cut it off; meaning you have to come back another day. The lines were very long and a lot of folks were turned away so please prepare and get out early. Also, depending on your number, expect to be there for a while. If you have numbers 40 and up, you may want to leave and come back but don't go far; maybe get a cup of coffee, etc. My number was 74 and was in line at 8:40 AM and left about 1:30 PM! The staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the process especially Dee; she had the patience of Job so much, that I went out and brought her a coffee! Oh one more thing, purchase your passport pics from either Target, CVS, Walmart or Rite Aid which is across the street. The Post Office charges $15 whereas Rite Aid charged me only $8.46. Again, please prepare and make sure you have everything you need before you go and happy travels folks! read more

My package passed through here en route to California. Apparently, this place is the Bermuda Triangle. My package magically diappeared. Multiple calls to USPS, Consumer Affairs, USPS supervisors have been an utter waste of time. It's a wonder how an organization like this can stay in business.. Oh wait, it's the government, and normal things that other businesses do every day ARE NOT applicable to the USPS. According to a recent article, USPS just lost $2 Billion in 3 months. That amount of negative cashflow is an artform in itself. You can't do that organically, you have to work carefully to do that. read more

The reason I am giving a post office a 5-star rating is because this is the only office that does not require an appointment to get a passport (that I know of). Other offices I've called did not have an open appointment until the following month. Not only was i able to register for my passport within the same day, my passport arrived in the mail within 2 1/2 weeks! It wasn't priority either. I may just be lucky but that's pretty damn efficient. As for the wait in line, it was bearable. What do you expect from a government facility anyways? read more
