This is an adorably quaint post office housed in a converted house in historic Glen Echo. It has almost a Norman Rockwell-esque feel to it (am I dating Ng myself) in that it literally morphs in your view to a watercolor postcard done in light wash, it's that perfect. It's tiny. If you go, more likely than not there will be a line. BUT the clerks are almost always wonderfully pleasant, patient and helpful, and most patrons are likewise. I love this post office and almost always go here to buy stamps or send packages just because it is so much more chill. read more

This unequivocally was the best post office experience I've ever had. The woman behind the counter was so customer service oriented, sweet, nice, and funny that I just can't wait to go back. She struck up a conversation about what I was sending out, we chatted about vintage crates, decor, and her mom (I believe it was) helping her decorate her apartment. She was saying how she doesn't really have the eye for that sort of stuff. I told her... always mix materials and old and new things. That will always add a nice warmth to a space. In any event, she was just so pleasant and friendly. I was headed to the airport and needed to use a restroom before I sat in traffic for like an hour on my way. I kinda was like... "hey... you guys don't have a public restroom in here do you?" I mean... I was 99 percent ready to hear a "no". And she said, hey yeah I can let you use our restroom as long you don't make a mess, kill anyone, or do drugs in there. She was joking obviously. I laughed heartily and she escorted me back. What a kind gesture to let me use their employee restroom. Anyways, I had no idea this post office was here. It's quite tucked into a neighborhood in Glen Echo. When the GPS told me to turn, I almost did not thinking that it must be the wrong street. It's like you're turning into a residential area, and there's a historic building with a post office in it. And how often do you get a friendly post office employee btw? I'm sorry, I don't like to generalize, but I think that might be a first. In fact, my next review might be of the post office behind the home depot across from Montgomery Mall where the post worker yelled at me when I asked him if that was "really the cheapest way to send my post." This took place 21FEB2020. I do not like to make these sort of posts unless they're needed. I had to mail something to Mexico without a return address. I explained to the young lady that there isn't one and why, which is when the rudeness erupted. The process was annoyingly painful, with no regard to the customer. The person I assume is the superior came out of her office and said to someone in line, "What you want?" then made a grunt so they can go to her. Not sure what's happening here, but they need to reassess their customer service posture. It was extremely unprofessional. One star only because my package will get mailed. read more

Why do I use this place? Because... quaint. Home-towny. It's like the post office was when I was a kid - a local house-looking deal where you bump into neighbors and find out how their kid's doing, or what's up with the local street work. It's on the ground floor of the little town's Town Hall. In short, it's convenient, and slightly charming, though definitely not the most efficient post office I've ever been to. Which is why Yelp's three stars meaning of "A-OK" applies: This place is not for those in a hurry, especially around the holidays, or tax time. Parking can be a pain. Sometimes the folks behind the counter can be brusque (though I've never had anyone be rude). However, I've also had the postal workers here go the extra mile for me, getting the outbound mail truck to wait up a few seconds so I can get my mail out on time, or finding the stamps I want for birthday invitations. If I needed a P.O. box, I'd get it here, if only to feel like I still live in friendlier, more neighborly times. read more

I'm kinda sad that my PO Box services have ended here. It's just a little too far out of the way now & needed one closer. The ladies that run this place have been very kind to me and always accommodating with things that don't always have an immediate textbook answer. This post office has some amazing customer service. I read the reviews and thought, oh that sounds nice, but after calling them, believe me it's all true. The kind lady who was currently the only person there and could not help we right away went out of her way to write down my information such that she could help me at a later time in the day when she was able. I go here out of convenience to my house and parking however, every time I come, I regret it. Without fail, the lady behind the counter yells at me like I ate her first born child. It doesn't matter what I do, she finds a reason to inflict rage. One time, I came in and the line was out the door. It was close to Christmas so, I came ready for patience and to wait. I was carrying a screaming infant. However, I pre-paid for my package, it was all set up, I just needed to drop it off. The line looked like I would have to wait an hour to literally drop the package off. Before I took the chance of giving everyone in line insanity with my child's screams, I quickly came up to the front, asked the person in the front of the line if I could ask a quick question and when it was their turn, stepped up and asked if I could just drop my package off and go. A reasonable question before enduring an hour wait in line for anyone, better or less a person carrying a screaming hungry baby. This lady screamed at me for disrupting her so harsh the entire line voted that I could just go ahead and be the next person in line to literally... Hand her my package. Another time, I came in and wasn't sure which form I needed to use to send a package. The same lady yelled at me again and said, "you should have known that before you got here." There was no one else in the office. There was no way I was disrupting her job. Miffed, I asked if I had done something to upset her in some way since I could not fathom how we got from me walking in the door to yelling. She just repeated herself even more aggressively. I'm a youngest of 4. To say I'm thick skinned is an under statement. This lady has me at near tears every single time I've gone to this post office. She is nasty to the core. I'm happy to commiserate with anyone who hates their job. This lady doesn't allow anyone to come within 10 feet of her without going for the jugular. Damaged soul, much? The gentleman who works behind the counter is a nice guy provided you are nice and decent to him (ie: don't act like a typical Bethesda resident). He earns this office one star. Talk to him about football and you'll be friends for life. The ease of parking and lack of people inside (probably all avoiding Rosie McRagerson) earns this place the other star. This post office can be good if it isn't busy, but it is horrible at Christmas or tax time. I just left it and went to UPS to mail a package. It was the noon hour, and the line was out the door. There was only one clerk and she seemed to be on a work slowdown strike. The other two stations were unattended. This is unacceptable for a busy time before Christmas. The USPS is in competition with actual businesses which recognize the need to treat customers like customers. read more

Second day on the job and the counter Postal Clerk was trying valiantly to deal with a moderately long line, an assorted number of transactions (beyond buying stamps!).....and, all of this at lunch hour. Why only one star --- and, certainly not as a result of the captive clerk, above... Rather, where was the Postmaster of this oh-so-small Post Office for the 35 minutes that I stood in line? Can't imagine that a responsible supervisor would have thrown a new employee to the wolves. Unfortunately, the paucity of customer service is a hallmark for this Post Office. I guess we have to give up our little secret if we want to keep our post office open. Just off MacArthur Blvd in west Bethesda is the little town of Glen Echo with its own Post Office. Located in the ground floor of the town hall, you can see the white building with the cupola from MacArthur. Turn onto Harvard Avenue and park either on the street or behind the building. It's a tight parking lot, so be careful, but it is all free and usually you can find a spot. Run in and stand in line or buy stamps from the machines. There are only three windows, and usually only one or two are open. But the line goes fast unless someone is sending a package to the other side of the earth with insurance, which happens more often than you would think. The postmistress and employees are generally cheerful, but because it is so small, one of them is usually doing something administrative or behind the scenes. You will find seasonal decor and packaging for mailing and presents. There are post boxes to rent. Overall, it is a cheerful little post office that does a great business due to their general efficiency and handy parking. Open M-F 9-5 and Sat 9-1. Please come visit, but preferably not on tax day or just before Christmas... read more

I work in Bethesda and come to this post office on occasion. I have witnessed the customer service in this location decline steadily in the past 5 years. At this point it doesn't seem like it could sink any lower. I was there today and the two clerks were both ignoring me-- chit chatting about counting the minutes to be done for the day. I had a few packages to mail, and the interactions were just rude and uncaring. I asked to speak with the (new) postmaster ---I wonder where they dug him up from. The rudest, most acerbic postal employee I have ever met--and that is saying a lot! Hiring this type of rude and discourteous person really brings USPS down even more. I decided to stop going to this location, as they are much kinder in the downtown Bethesda location! What a share--this quaint Glen Echo location has been ruined by the rude and insolent people that now work there. read more

For many months now the Glen Echo post office has been a friendly, customer supportive and well working place moving as efficiently as any place with limited staff resources allows, providing a lot of community support. And the setting brings back the small town flavor as well. read more
