This post office's package drop off has been out of order for a good year and the one functioning package drop off is behind the LOCKED area after hours. Especially with the holidays I would think they'd want to get this fixed. And why have the function of paying for post for your package if you can't drop it off at the same location? West McLean post office is filthy The door leading into the office has been broke for over six months with an old "use other door " sign that is curling and falling off the scotch tape ... the windows are filthy with all dust and all fingerprints from months and months of use. I don't think they've been washed for over a year .. people are not friendly at all and the line is always long with not enough help. It's really sad. What's happening at that office... The employee named Marie with the crazy glasses is extremely condescending and passive aggressive, and to be avoided at all costs. Merrifield PO is better. Marie seems to delight in using her position as a means to talk down to people, especially asians and caucasians, rather than facilitate their passport applications. Terrible customer service from her. Sadly, she reflects very poorly on the USPS, and she should be fired, or at the very least, someone should teach her some manners, as her parents apparently never taught her any. read more

If I could give this location a 0 star I would as 1 star is FAR too generous. This is easily the worst USPS I've had the misery of living near. Over the past year I've had numerous packages be misplaced including medication (that was delivered in a different town and then redelivered to me OPEN), Save the Dates for our wedding (that was misplaced and no one could find it for WEEKS; it was eventually found in the building, weeks (21 days) after it was supposed to be delivered), food, etc. Do better, USPS. I always came to the post office and had very nice staff taking care of customer service needs. Today, I went there and was served by a rude lady. she seemed nice at the beginning by saying Thanks you for your patience as the line was long on a Friday afternoon, but she end up saying things into my face. Dazia has the worst attitude and customer service. Never had an issue at this location until she was "helping" me. I inquired about a package that hasn't been delivered yet and it's been over 1 month already and she advised me to drive to the post office where the package has been sitting. Just like many other post office, customer service is not the top priority. Pro tip: when calling for help, just sound sweet and nice. Otherwise they do not have patience for your issue you are calling about. Donna was the rudest person I worked with. I had to call twice because they couldn't "hear me". It was just a bunch of "uhmmm" "ok" "mhmm" when asking for clarification about the wrong status they placed on my package. This is a great LITTLE post office in our growing community. Really nice people. Sometimes crowded, but great service.

Their shoot is always stuck for priority mail and they never check it. If you drop packages off in the morning, you won't see it scanned until way later in the evening. They don't know what customer service is. They have lost lots of packages and blame the post office that is closest to address you have on your package even after telling them That you dropped it off to them. It's a shame the employees at this location are so rude and unprofessional that I've now filed a complaint with the USPS Postmaster. I'm surprised by all the low reviews of this USPS location! I live in Bethesda and usually go to the post office there, but I work in Tysons and needed to get my passport application submitted. USPS has 2 locations in McLean; this location on Spring Hill Road is the only one that does passports. Scheduling an appointment online was quick and easy; there were plenty of timeslots available. I arrived at the post office about 7 minutes before my appointment. Almost immediately upon entering, a very polite staff member asked me if I was coming in for a passport. After I told him I was and gave him my appointment time, he had me stand off to the side while he finished helping the customer that he was currently helping. Afterwards, he immediately started to process my passport application. I had read the instructions and filled everything out before, so it was a very painless process. He took photocopies of my drivers license and birth certificate. I already had passport photos taken somewhere else so we didn't need to worry about that. All in all, the process took 5-10 minutes. I have waited MUCH longer at other USPS locations for passport services so it was great to be in and out so fast. Another perk of this location: plentiful free parking. Definitely can't get that in downtown Bethesda. read more

Just adding to the number of bad reviews as this place is unsatisfactory at best when it comes customer service. The self-service drop off hasn't been fixed in over a month and there's always issues with packages that are dropped off without getting a receipt. Seriously, how hard is it to fix/replace a lock that's had a out of service sign on it for a month?!! Customer service is lacking. Branch manager is never around and all you hear are just people chit chatting while Al is manning the front all by himself!!! UPDATE: Previous review above dates back to earlier in the year 2017 during when things were just rachet. Since then the self-service drop's been fixed but not updated like the bigger mail center in Merrifield, which allows you to scan the barcode on a pre-labeled box and print your own receipt. read more

I was shocked to find that Jake had written a review of this office, and it was not featured on his "Dude, you suck!" list, because dude, this place sucks. It has taken me THREE visits to finally get a passport application processed, and each time I waited at least 10 minutes, ringing their "ring bell for service" bell until some sloth of an employee showed up and acted surprised to see me. The first time took 15 minutes and dude shows up with crumbs in his mouth and completely unfriendly. For some reason they won't accept credit cards, which I guess makes sense but would be nice if they were able to convey this info to me before I showed up to apply. I mean, I doubt there are many people who are frequent passport appliers and the last time I did this I was 12 years old and with my mom so some help would be nice. So, I waited for another day when I had the appropriate source of funds. 2nd time only took 12 minutes to wait, and a different guy shows up and is slightly more friendly. But when I give him all my documents, he asks if I have a photo and when I say no he says "oh, our camera is broken so you need photo from somewhere else". I want to flip out but remain calm. Fortunately he guided me to slightly less sucky FedEx Kinkos for my passport photo needs. Third time I only waited 5 minutes, but for some reason a trophy wife needed to be helped ship a package from the passport office and food crumb (and now burping all over the place) guy has to help her out, instead of making her wait like I've done three times now to mail her trophy wife package from the actual shipping area. So now I have all my crap ready and I'm pumped to spite him, since I'm convinced he doesn't want me to have a passport. I had broken down and traversed all his obstacles, but he had one last ditch effort "you use debit, you need to cut money order. Cost $1". Die!! I was betting he thought I'd back down and say "oh, I'll come back with cash", but no I smote him and said "ok". He looked devastated that I finally slayed him and would successfully get my passport. Not that I'll be getting another passport anytime soon, but I highly recommend NOT coming here, unless you're prepared to do battle with unfriendly idiots. read more

The staff in this branch always look miserable and they are super unfriendly. I just hate this branch but so close to my office , so i only go when i am in hurry. A couple days ago, I made an appointment for passport renewal. They asked me to be arrived 15 mins early to the appointment. So i get there 15 mins early.... 20mins go by....another 15 mins go by.. no one gave me any attention. I asked staffs if anyone was going to help me with the passport, each time they yelled at me and told me to wait in line. This is NOT acceptable. They should consider other people's time. I see all the negative reviews here.. does anyone read??? Please train the staff and also put some more lightings. The redeeming quality of this otherwise $hithole of a government office is that it has an automated postal center that you can use to mail your packages. When I leave work and our mail room is already closed, I can count on the fact that I can come here and mail my crap for reasonably overpriced rates to fund the Postmaster General's pay raises and housing purchases for employees. Never mind the fact that the layout of the parking lot is tantamount to a death trap. But oddly, the employees here are all Asian...a phenomenon I'd never seen in a USPS office before. read more

This is my local branch. Yes, it's the holidays, but why have only 2 people working the counter on one of the busiest mailing days of the year? After waiting in line for 30 minutes, the lady tells me I have the wrong tape on my 'express box' I intended to send via overnight / next day delivery. After putting on the correct tape, the lady says it will not reach it's destination in NC for 2 days. Well, that's not really next day service right? So I asked about sending it Priority then because it was half the price and it took 3 days. The lady said, given the holidays, it will take 5 days. I then asked her, what was the point of offering a service if you could not execute it? You know, it's like ordering a pizza and they tell you it will delivered the next day and there might be some slices missing. If the USPS was not a government entity, it would of gone out of business 10 years ago. fyi FedEx, which is down the street on Rt. 7, was able to send it next day. read more

I went in at 11 AM on Friday, September 20 and had a fabulous experience. There was no one in line. Alfredo patiently helped me send three different types of packages, including one going internationally. He willingly added some packing tape to one package, helped me write a customs declaration, and allowed me time to pick the stamps I wanted from their big book of current stamps. I will be seeking to call the Post Office directly to provide feedback on Alfredo and the West McLean Post Office, but I know Yelp reaches a lot of people. Kudos to Alfredo! read more

Meh. I've experienced better. Being that I've been selling books and stuff on eBay and Amazon for years, I've had my fair share of the U.S. Postal Service. The experience I've had at this particular branch has been subpar. Both times I've went the person helping me was either distracted or rushed. First time I went the person started helping me when suddenly a girl walks in and he starts chatting it up with her. That's cool, I guess they knew each other from before, but then he stopped what he was doing and started to flirt with her. I could tell she was a bit confused and probably a bit embarrassed because he started having a full on conversation with her in front of me. I just needed him to put the stamp on the damn package and give me some mail confirmation. He can flirt all he wants afterward, but c'mon! Not cool. A little "hello" and "how are you?" is no problem for me, but you can work at the same time; there's no need to stop what your doing and start talking about things like "so why haven't I seen you lately?" or "you look reeeaalll nice today". -_- The second time I went it was actually the same guy. This time he was super mellow and rushed through everything. I started to ask a question about the package and shipping and he would look up with that impatient look followed with a sigh. Yea. So, yes, I've experienced better. Maybe I just got unlucky with this person, but it won't stop me from going here to get my business done. I always go to USPS because they are cheaper than FedEx and ups but always am miserable at their depressing stores. The hours are horrible and lines are really long. They do an ok job sending things with the same sort of tracking and whatnot. But in the stores just take forever. This location is no different. M I don't understand why when I go up and send something it always takes little time (still too much because of whatever they are doing) but less than most people. This location had someone wandering around trying to help people but not really expediting anything or sending anyone to the automated options. Really just miserable and depressing. Wow, man- ya'll are brutal! I've come here 4 or 5 times during weekday lunch hours and found the staff friendly and easy to get along with! Every time I've had a question about how to efficiently mail a package they've been able to direct me to the least expensive/ most suiting process. Wait times for mailing packages have generally been under 5 minutes for me. Wait times for Passports on two occasions have been , but that's due to clients not understanding the process, Parking could be improved, but for the most part I believe this post office is one of the better ones I go to. read more

I used to think the DMV was hell on Earth but this post office is a close contender. I had to come here to send something for work and of course, the dreary decor was awful. I had the strict instructions of getting something overnighted and certified. I've never done this before so I wait in line to ask, along with my overnight envelope and my certified paper. The manager comes out and I explain the situation to him and he says I can do both but it's expensive and doesn't make sense. I go up to the clerk who rudely tells me its impossible and cant be done and back I am sent to the back of the line. Why would the manger say I could do both and then the clerk say it cant be? 2/3 of the clerks here are rude and don't seem to get much done. Another woman seemed to have a lost package in the system and when she was questioning it, instead of staying calm, the manager yelled at her repeatedly saying "DO YOU WANT ME TO LIE TO YOU ABOUT YOUR PACKAGE?" The last set was intended to arrive in Florida, but it landed in CALIFORNIA!!! for some reason... This is by far the worst USPS in the area. ROBERT who works here, is the most abysmal and rude employee I have ever seen. He should be fired immediately for his behavior towards customers. There is another man here, I regret not getting his name, who had to literally FORCE him to help me. Robert should never have been hired as an employee, and should never work with human beings ever. So a few months ago, I went to the post office near my office to get stamps for my wedding invitations (YAY!). Of course, I would encounter the ONE and ONLY USPS worker with an agenda. Me: "Hi, I need 40 'normal' stamps please" Her: "How about these Purple Heart stamps?" Me: "No thank you. Please, I would just like 40 normal stamps" Her: "These are normal stamps. But they commemorate the people that are fighting for us". Me: "Yeah, I really would prefer the 'regular' normal stamps please" Her: "These are people that are dying for you. You really should honor them" Me: "Yeah, but these are for invitations, so I really don't want a message. Just stamps. Please." Her: "Oh! What kind of invitations?" Me: "Wedding. Now can I get the normal stamps please?" Her: "Sure, here are 40 Purple Heart stamps. That will be $16.80, please" Me: "...but...I just want NORMAL stamps. You know, the ones with the liberty bell or flag or whatever? Just normal stamps without any kind of message. Please?" Her: "These are normal stamps, and you would be honoring the men and women that are dying for you right now. They are dying. For you. And look - it has a heart. It's perfect for your wedding".
