A misinformed sales rep refused to let me priority 3-day ship a gaming laptop because it contained an integrated lithium ion battery which i was told was not allowed on a plane. The sales rep admonished me, stating "i wouldn't want to be responsible for blowing up the plane, now would i?!" I was especially offended at this, being that i am very dark skinned and i have an arabic name. I was subsequently given a 10-day parcel postal rate and tracking number 9534911607708247130689 to ship my gaming laptop along other 70lb+ packages. the sales rep was kind enough to offer me insurance in the likelihood my package was damaged. After the transaction, i went online and discovered any electronics containing an integrated (non-removable) lithium ion battery may ship via priority express or higher however these items are barred from OVERSEAS or INTERNATIONAL flights ( due to past acts of terrorism ) -- ...well, when i read this i was pissed having exposed my laptop to 7-days of unnecessary shipping and possible damage!!! Normally, I would not take the time to write one, but I feel compelled to share my experience due to the consistently poor performance of the USPS Distribution Center in Springfield, MA. It is difficult to understand how a package can arrive at the facility in the morning and still be processing more than 24 hours later. Could this happen occasionally? Certainly. However, it should not be the standard operating experience. Unfortunately, the Springfield USPS Distribution Center is one of the primary reasons I rely on Amazon for many of my purchases. My package has been sitting for over a month in the Springfield Post Office Distribution Center. The package is only going to the next state over. All the numbers you call nobody answers or you just get disconnected. Massive inefficient bloated Government agency. Total incompetence. No one gets held accountable. Packages keep getting sent to the Springfield MA Distribution Center and like other posters have said, these packages either arrive late or are completely lost. I'm tired of it. I live in CT so many of my packages seem to be routed through this Hellhole of a Distribution Center. It's like a gaping blackhole that sucks in your packages and never lets them out. My item had the misfortune of being accidentally shipped to this facility. It was stuck here for 20 days before it departed. When my item arrived after a month, all that I received was the original shipping label along with a note saying they were sorry for the inconvenience. By far the worst distribution center I've been involved with. Per USPS tracking results, the SAME package arrived at the Springfield MA Distribution Center 4 times ((8/4, 8/4, 8/6, and 8/6) and the SAME package departed from the Springfield MA Distribution Center 3 times (8/4, 8/5, and 8/6). The package finally arrived on 8/9/2023. Springfield MA certainly needs to be audited for what seems to be lack of quality control and production. read more

Not sure how anybody here is still employed. As others have said this is where packages fall into a black hole. Constantly bounced to the wrong facilities, sent back here, and then sent back to sender (if you're lucky) or into the black hole never to be seen again. Not sure if there's some theft or incompetence, but I suspect a combination of the two. You'd have more luck walking across the country in a handstand to get your package and it's probably faster too. read more

I admit, I was terrified when my package from St. Louis to Seattle somehow ended up on the opposite coast in Massachusetts. I was even more upset when I read the reviews for this distribution center. Fortunately for me, they redirected my package to its proper direction in a timely matter. I had no conversation with them, because I didn't need to. They handled it. I appreciate that alot. They got a package of mine on May 10th that was supposed to be to my house in Florida by the 12th. It has live animals in it and they lost my package. My poor animals are probably starving to death I am super upset they are pet spiders. My package showed up at the Springfield Distribution Center a month ago when someone at that center decided to mail it away for a trip around the country. Now, a month later, it is back at the Springfield Distribution Center. Since last weekend I've been getting this message while tracking it, "The item is currently in transit to the destination.." or "Your package will arrive late but it is in transit." I could have walked to the Springfield Distribution Center and picked up my package quicker. I hope they're not sending it out to Chicago again. I have no faith in the USPS hub in Springfield. Yep, as others reviewing this location surely know, this is the last stop of your package's journey. This is where your mail comes to die. Any time I've had the sad misfortune of having a postal delivery pass through the gates of this abyss, all hopes of receiving that item are instantly crushed. The norm is for the package to vanish into the branch's netherworld but occassionally, after filing multiple claims and spending way too much time on the phone speaking with clueless reps, a package will eventually appear some months later when you forgot about it. By this point it has usually been fictitiously rerouted around the greater United States multiple times however, we all know it's just been sitting in some Springfield dungeon, just a couple hours from your home. My business address was changed from a P.O Box to a physical address in mid April and the mail was suppose to get forwarded 14 days later. I t is now 5/18/22 and it still has not happened. My business partner went to the post office today and spoke to a supervisor who told him that all of our mail is being sent back to the sender and that she can not tell us when our mail will be forwarded. Springfield, MA is the black hole of the postal system. Two of my purchases have been "lost" at this facility. My current problem is that a package arrived on 1-26 and departed on 1-27 and hasn't yet arrived today 2-3. I could walk there in less time. I think that they just scan packages as having departed in order to take the heat off them for not processing packages on a timely basis. I know the USPS is hurting right now, but this place has been a nightmare for quite some time. Business here is never swift, unless you time it right, or arrive early and wait for them to open up. Never enough workers on staff to deal with the amount of customers. [Most] post offices are no fun. This one is no exception. Parking is an absolute bear. People are driving kamikaze-style through the drive-thru mail drop off, which happens to be in the same narrow sliver of land as the parking lot. Drive in and out carefully. There is always, always a line. What differs is just HOW long it is, usually between 6-12 in front of you. Unfortunately, the last experience I had showed me that, depending on your needs, not every teller will be able to help you. For example, need cash back? announce that to the teller who calls you over. If they can't help you, wait at the front of the line until the teller who can help you is available. Several people went all the way to the back of the line after a teller had "no cash." Due to the high ceilings and open space, personal phone conversations can get very loud. Do yourself and everyone else a favor: take phone calls outside. We don't all need to hear your personal business. Picking up packages, even when you have the slip/info, will still take quite some time and you'll be convinced they've lost your package (see other reviews). The tellers are very slow (and possibly very disorganized) at this location. On the plus side, the counter at this location is open til 5:30PM, one of the latest in the area. read more

I have a Priority Packaged that has been in the Springfield, MA post office for 8 days. I put in the mail on January 18, 2021. It left my town on January 19 and is sitting in Mass. If the post can not promise or deliver on its priority mail, they should not charge for it. I had another package that sat there for 10 days!! Also Priority mail. I've lived in several states, and Springfield, MA's post office is by far the worst I've ever dealt with anywhere. I routinely have packages ship across vast swathes of the US in a matter of just a few days, and then remain "in transit" between offices within Springfield for up to a week at a time. I mean, I live in Springfield, so the fact that a package can take longer to ship from a Springfield post office to my own home than it takes to move the same package across numerous state lines into Springfield is maddening. (And don't even get me started on the time I was hired by Springfield's post office for a summer job, and it took them the entire summer to give me a start date.) I dread this place. My packages coming from out of state have to go through this place before it comes to Boston. They lost my package ( a huge box Juicer ) and all I received in the mail was a plastic baggy saying we're sorry on it and a Note inside saying once again sorry and we hope this does not inconvenience you. They put inside the bag also a piece of that package that only had my address on it...Thats it... So how do I prove to the people I bought this from that the package was lost as they did not even indicate the transaction number on it?? The Transaction shipments says it was delivered!!!! But it wasnt, shouldn't it say "lost in the mail" on the transaction that the buyer can look up!? Nope, So i had to go through hell to prove I lost my mail ! If you pay for a transaction number, they better damn well start showing more proof of it being lost in the mail, as a sorry letter proves nothing to the buyer unless it also says the TRANSACTION NUMBER. Often their transactions randomly stops for a long period of times to days to a week before they ship the item to the next location. Every USPS along the way quickly ships it to the next location, NOT THIS ONE. They take forever as if your item is going thru customs and they need to call your Country of Origin. They loose items all the time at this particular location, read the other reviews. Its the post office, not much you can do but they really either re-locate all these people to other USPS branches or fire them and start over with a new Crew. read more

Here's the problem with post offices in general: The hiring process apparently doesn't filter out incompetent people with miserable personalities. Sure, there may be some exceptions, and you might occasionally see a competent, personable postal employee, but it's rare, from my experience. Here, just like any post office, it should be expected to see a long, slow-moving line with disinterested employees doing the minimal amount of work required of them. If you ever call the USPS customer service line to ask a question about a lost package, you'll likely hear, "just be patient" or in other words, nobody will do anything to help you, they won't even apologize, they'll just essentially tell you to get lost. My package was delayed at this post office. I paid for 2-day Delivery. 6 days passed, and I called the customer service line, and some guy name Danny seemed like I was bothering him, as if I was enjoying myself being put on hold for 20 minutes to hear "welllllll, sir, dunno what to tell ya, just gotta be patient, anything elseeee?" Yeah, What's the point of having customer service if the people working in that department consistently mutter "be patient" as their solution to every issue? read more

The parking lot can be a nightmare, however: a thin strip carved out of Liberty, with conflict between those trolling for a spot, those trying to back out of a spot, and those who used the drive-through postal box and now want to run over everyone else. read more

Don't bother paying for fast shipping if you come here. It won't get to your destination for a minimum of 2 weeks (upwards of a month is standard) and you'll be out money without any recourse. Useless, incompetent, surely, and a whole host of other words that I cannot use here. read more
