It was really a very bad experience at San Gabriel post office. A poor attitude supervisor refused to assign staff to do the passport application during their office hours, saying he had no staff to do it. It happened at 2 pm, Oct. 23, Monday. In the morning I was there picking up application form and the employee named Li C. was processing the passport . I returned at 2 pm to submit the form and saw the staff Li C. was right there at the counter, but the supervisor insisted no passport service and asked me to go some other post office to do it. It's during their passport service hours. It's their responsibility to provide the service. Why the service was rejected with the poor attitude? The post office system is malfunctioning at this office and wasting tax money. read more

I called on 12/30/14 after visiting the temple city post office. Spoke to some guy but didn't get his name and said that the passport office was open from 9am-2pm. Got myself up and ready this morning. Excitedly walked in thinking someone will be able to help me and saw the sign that said "Passport Office Closed Today". Of course, I was in denial at first but stayed in line and waited to ask someone. Spoke with Diane and she said that they were closed today but after explaining to her that I called yesterday and was told they were open, she decided to help me. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. She went through my passport application thoroughly and explained how long it would take for me to receive it. I understand that people can be a pain in the a** during the holidays but I'm really glad that Diane took the time to help me. Thank you Diane! P.s. This review is strictly for passport services: My experience there was an A+++ I got there today (Friday) at 11:30am and there was no line. Diane the lady that help us was very professional and explained all my charges. My time there was 15 minutes in and out. I totally recommend that you come here first to get your passport. TL;DR These guys let a stranger pick up my package and couldn't help me retrieve it. I put the wrong city on my package and it still ended up in this post office. I expected them to send back the package to the sender since the address that was on the package did not exist anywhere. Instead of doing so, they gave my package to someone who had the same last name as me because they assumed that person is related to me (WITHOUT CHECKING IF THE ADDRESS EXISTED AT ALL). When I called them about this, they said that I was out of luck and that letting people who have the same last name as you pick up your packages is normal. I just recently came here for passport. I thought it was convenient since I live around the corner. Well my experience was not at all that great . As I walk in I notice a sign that said "open until further notice " so I decided to wait in line and ask if they were going to open or not, And I understand if they weren't going to open with all this COVID-19 going on, I get it. So finally I got to the window and ask the lady if they were going to open or when can I come back, she nicely said " hold on one second let me see if they can help you" so I waited , soon this other post office worker came and she ask her if she can process my passport transactions and she rudely said " are u ready !? U need to be ready " i obviously wasn't since I was just asking if they were open or not . So I said no I just need to fill out the forms . She said "you need to hurry up " i just ignore her and kept filling out the papers , next she comes back to ask if I was done , I said no I will let u know when I'm done. Honestly at this point I'm confuse and wondering if i need to make an appointment at this location why was she being so rude ? She could of said "No we aren't opening right now " or "you need an appointment " and I would've understand. In the Glendale location I had a very different experience , the workers there actually help u out and actually want to help u. I was thrown away of how rude this lady was! This post office has a cool self serve automated vending machine that sells stamps and helps with delivery of parcels.

The parking is bad. That situation is just not working. I like to park at the Bank of America at the corner of Del Mar and Las Tunas just to escape the little parking lot the PO has to offer. But once you get inside, the staff is pretty friendly and helpful. Even though they have a sign claiming that THEY HAVE NO TAPE FOR COMMONERS TO USE (hyperbole), they more than likely will help you out if you forgot to tape one side of your package. The line can get long from 4-5PM, so, beware! If you go before that, around 2, it's not too bad. read more

I'm reading some reviews and a couple of people talk about the Asian guy. It made me laugh a little because it occurred to me that I've encountered him. In my situation, it was a quiet period and he was just at the counter by himself. I was there to find a flat rate box so I just said "Hello, I'm surprised it's so quiet right now." He did not respond to me. Anyway, my review of this post office... try not to come during peak hours (noon every day) because as others have said, parking is terrible and lacking. My favorite part is that their automated postage unit is open 24/7 (not sure if this is the same at other post offices?) but other than that... come early in the morning so you can find yourself a parking spot and avoid the long lines that come with the territory. The other employees are friendly enough. If there was more parking, I'd bump this up one or two stars. read more

All the bad reviews are true! My passport was delivered to an incorrect address! I called and had the postmaster have his mailman GO FIND where he/she could have delivered it to!!. That was a nightmare and it just gets worse! It seems all the mail people cannot deliver to the correct address!. I have had countless deliveries mailed to another address. Saturday I had someone who lives on a different street deliver my box to me, which Amazon said USPS delivered on WEDNESDAY!! I also had, last month, mail delivered to me for an address in LOS ANGELES!! I left it sticking out of my mailbox (like outgoing mail) so he/she would take away (and deliver to the correct address) but my mail person ignored it for 3 days and left it there when they delivered mail. Ugh I'm not surprised with the negative reviews here. Where do I begin with my experience. I mainly can't stand the attitude here. Mostly from one particular person but I won't name names, so I will call him bob. The staff here isn't really friendly. I always feel like I'm in a grumpy quiet library with long lines when coming here. The parking lot is dangerous and cramped. My first experience involves me needing a date stamped on my letter. Politely we asked for a stamp , which takes seriously two seconds and a smile. But no, we were sternly (seemingly yelled) to go to the end of the line. For a dated ink stamp. We kindly told him "but we just need s stamp, nothing else" and he says "I don't care you still have to goto the end of the line" as rude as possible. Awkward and frustrating. I wouldn't mind if it was service with a smile. Another experience involves having an incorrect shipping label on a different box. We didn't know which box is for what label and they don't take it lightly. They just get so uptight about everything. The only nice experience I recall was this sweet lady who asked if anyone is paying with card instead of cash. She was so friendly and helped us through the whole process of the computer shipping etc. and getting my passport was a whole other story. I write my name on a list for the earliest slot blank and available but apparently because someone who came in before me wrote their name down for a later time, I couldn't do that. Uh okay. And of course he gets his panties in a twist about it. I wait only to find out the person who's before me isn't even prepared. They're still filling out paperwork. So they take me in first (finally.) i walk in and there's an issue with their scanner not working so my documents had to be taken through a phone picture. I waited in there longer than I should've. Lastly, even if your package is off by a tenth of an ounce , they'll refuse it to be shipped and won't offer any assistance on printing a new label. Other post offices don't get so bothered by it. I only come here due to the convenience of the location. I'd be able to tolerate anything if they'd just smile and talk to me like I'm human. read more

I should have went to the San Marino post office as I usually do. Unfortunately, I came here ignoring all the bad reviews. I stayed in line for the longest time to request a thick envelope that they did not provide or simply ran out of to only face a demon to "assist" me (aka Diane). Impatiently she asked why I do not have my address ready to which I replied I do. She had the audacity to question that. She continued to scold me as if I am a child??!! Know her place! I have done this before, and I would have stepped out of line so she could assist someone else but she made it difficult. In her irritated/rude tone, she said I could get help from someone else. Keep in mind that I was polite the entire time. With my even, calm tone, I retorted that I would if I could. However, it's rude to cut someone else in line. Did she not understand that concept? Imbecilic individual like her wouldn't. In the end, I didn't even retrieve what I wanted and someone else finally called me over to help. To my surprise, the gentlemen was polite. That's all I needed. Politeness and basic manners. I pay for the service. It's not free yet Diane acted so hostile to everyone. Even if she had a bad day, it's incredibly unprofessional to lash out on your CUSTOMERS. This service was not free so I do expect some common decency. To express my frustration at that time, my hands were itching to slap the rudeness out of her. However, not only is that distasteful, it's illegal. I'm not telling you to not come here... Despite rude service, bad parking, and long lines. Just avoid rude, impolite, bigoted individuals like Diane if you can. read more

Updated review! Why does this place get such a bad rap on Yelp? Since my last review, I've continued getting my mail in my PO Box in a timely manner, purchased stamps and a money order, and even done two bulk mailings. All the USPS workers I've dealt with have been helpful and friendly. Street addressing for my PO Box is such a convenience because I can safely receive UPS or FedEx packages. The only thing is that it will take an extra day or two after the post office receives my packages before I get it in my hands. This is definitely the worst Postal Office in the San Gabriel Valley. The lady (JANET) who answers the phone was so rude and unprofessional. She said she was too busy to speak with me. She refused to listen to my concern and just kept being so defensive about the post office is not responsible for any missing shipment as long as it showed on tracking info that the item was delivered. Even though it is obvious that they have somehow lost your package yet she would deny it. She made it a point that it was not their fault at all and that the mailman does not make mistake. I finally had to came in and asked to speak with the postmaster. At the end, I was only able to talk to the supervisor and of course he was so protective to his colleagues and simply brushed me off. And not for once the lady nor the supervisor acknowledged the possibility of postman's mistake and never said once sorry for the inconvenience and the loss of package even he said repeatedly, "it is too bad you did not get the shipment but there is nothing we can do since the seller did not purchase insurance." Bottom line, if you don't have to, don't use the postal service and definitely not the post office in San Gabriel unless you want to be treated like third class citizens. Ironically, the whole office staff is almost all Asians who are stuck up, unhelpful and demeaning to the customers. This is really a shame to the Asian community! I will not use that post office anymore. I drive further to Alhambra, nicer, friendlier and better parking situation as well. read more

Came here on Saturday around 11AM and I was surprise how was everything was. I was expecting a long line with two unmotivated employees working. Nope! Not here! There were about four people working and there was no line. Came in and out within a few minutes. The most negative part about this was how tiny the parking lot was. Once again, The asian male clerk in his 50-60 did it again. Not sure if he is a supervisor but the attitude is not acceptable. I work in customer service for over 18 years now and i am not happy with the service that was provided to my friend and me. I personally called in to the long,painful USPS automatize system and it took me over 20-30 mins to complete the "HOLD" on a package for my friend. The system confirmed the hold and provided a confirmation number on Feb 8th. My friend went to pick it up on the Feb 10th and they sent him back and forth from the El Monte Station to the San Gabriel Station. The on Feb 11th, my friend and his family was outside chilling when he got a message stating the package was attempted to deliver when no USPS associate even walk into the driveway. I mailed a padded enveloped containing homemade Christmas gifts to my family in Missouri. They received the package completely empty with printed notices on it: RECEIVED WITHOUT CONTENTS AT FULTON MO POST OFFICE I'm unable to post pictures here, so I'll have to share a url: http://imgur.com/a/LFxF2 I complained to the manager here at San Gabriel, and showed him photographs of the package. After looking at the photos, he told me that packages can be accidentally opened by the processing machines. The package was obviously opened on the side the way a person would normally open a package. So I guess I'm to believe the fault wasn't theirs, and I should instead just go to USPS's wonderfully convenient website. Additionally, the website claim system did not work when I tried it, so I instead got stuck playing phone tag with USPS for over an hour, getting transferred left and right to various calling departments and they were also unable to file a claim over the phone. I have to file a claim by mail, providing proof with receipts of all the items. Anyone know how I can do this for homemade items? read more

The worst post office ever! Bad service and bad parking. It's the most busiest and the longest waiting line. It's about 30 minutes wait or more because of the short staffs with sometime one or two worker(s) only. Really? Just ridiculous. If your ever calling in for questions or whatsoever. The phone lines are always busy and it hangs up on you or it takes them super long to pick up! San Gabriel USPS is retarded. When I order stuff online, it gets delivered to my old address to my mother's house. Uhm...? I put my current and right address. Why does the tracking say address undeliverable? It didn't happen once, but THREE times. I called in a few times before and they would make excuses like it's the wrong address or address label was rubbed off. Seriously, why would I put my old address when I want it to be deliver to my current address? Of course, someone changed the address and delivered it there, but why? So this time around, my package didn't get deliver to my address nor my mother's address. I called in asking for information and this Asian lady tried to argue with me as I tried to explain. Hello lady, stop talking over me and let me explain please! Try listening and talking to me so we can get it resolve. Don't blame me or make excuses, it's your bad system. Came here with a bag full of boxes to ship. About 10 boxes and asked tony what label I could use for ground / cheap shipping. He snapped at me that if it were clear then I could ship ground. I requested the pick up two days before and the usps didn't show up to pick it up today. I called the usps and the guy said that they can pick it up tomorrow instead and the mailman can't go back. Then he proceeds to blame the mailman for not printing the pick up form when it is unsure if the mailman even printed it out UPDATE 10/28/2017 I sat hours waiting for the mailman to pick up my parcel. My husband and I took our son here to apply for a passport. The lady was extremely rude. She made us wait outside her office while she take her time doing paperwork. Then she decided to call us in and said I'll have you wait inside here instead. So we're sitting there for another 5 minutes watching her finish her paperwork. I asked her can she take our son's picture. She smiles and said it's going to take a long time. When she finally finish her paperwork, she rudely asked us to place our son on the other side of the room. She grabbed the camera and asked us how old is he. We said he's 4 months old TWICE to her. She said wake him up cause they need to see his eyes since he's over 6 months. What?! We woke him up and she snapped two pictures which only took 2 minutes. She asked me if I'm okay with the picture. How do I know if it's okay?!?! I thought they have a list of strict rules on how the photo should look like. Then she went back to her seat to finish up the application. She asked us to put our date of birth and birth place. My husband accidentally put his info under my name. He asked her for white out. She ignored him. So he just scribbled it out and put my info. Before I could put my birth date on it, she grabbed the paper and said you don't know your birth date. WTF?!?!?! We tried to explain to her that there was no space on the line but she just ignored us. I will never come here again for passport services. If I have to drive an extra mile, I would do that instead. I wasn't going to write this review since it didn't happen to me directly but being a bystander and witnessing this happening really annoyed me so I decided to post about it. I understand that when it gets closer to 5 everyone just wants to go home. Workers or anyone visiting the post office during this time. However, I do believe that if someone comes in and waits in line for their turn regardless of how many packages they may have they deserve their time to be helped. However, this wasn't so. An lady with multiple packages was at the counter. The people in line, saw how many items she had and were already complaining that she should have done this some other time during the day instead of waiting until closing to go and send everything out. First off, what if this was her only time as well to send everything out. On the flip of that statement why didn't you guys come earlier to pick up your items. (I'm just as tired as everyone else given that I have just got back in the area from work in the Valley. And since my package was here I had to come to this location) Anyways, she waited in line for turn therefore, she should have the right to be helped when it was her turn. However, the people at the counter told her as well to come back sometime the next day. They even brought out a dolly to help her move everything back to her car. If they did that couldn't they just finish helping her send everything out, obviously she needed help to determine how she wanted to send the packages out therefore, she carried all those packages in there to have the postal workers to help her out but in the end she was told to leave because it was too close to closing hours and she had way too many packages. I understand everyone's frustration about this lady and all the packages however, she was there before closing hours but had they actually tried to help her instead of making her leave they probably would have been able to process most of it before closing. I went to send a package with Flat Rate envelope. The Asian lady there told me that I needed to change it to another envelope to make it flattering because that what it means. Flat Rate = Flat Envelope???? I told her that I've been sending packages for years by using Flat Rate envelopes and never had any issue. She said other people don't care, she DID care so she can't let me sending the package. Tried calling today about a package I was tracking. The USPS website says that it's in San Gabriel so I tried asking this office about it to see if it was there or being delivered by today. The worker Janet was not helpful at all, saying my tracking number doesn't exist, she can't find it. I told her that I was on the actual USPS website tracking it and it shows the info but she says I'm on the wrong website. And just told me to call the 800 number because she can't help me. This review is only for this specific worker providing horrible service. I often visit this location and send weekly packages using their priority mail non-flat rate boxes which all USPS locations are required to provide at each office, which doesn't require the use of requesting them online. Tony, the middle-aged short white haired Asian man is always there and is always talking loudly to customers and giving attitude and emotions when neither behaviors are needed in this environment. (Check the Yelp reviews for this location!) Twice this week he has been more than rude and offensive to me. When I arrived today they didn't have the non-flat rate priority boxes out front, so upon requesting four of them Tony doesn't flinch to check the back to get them for me but yells out, "We don't have any!!" and just walks away! I asked him in front of the rest of the patrons just as loudly as he spoke to me to repeat what he just said, while he continued to walk away and said, "Ask the manager!" He then walks behind the shallow wall behind the counter and he starts kicking the metal cages that contain packages 3-5 times!!! Loud bangs and loud knocks!!! In front of customers and employees. No one says a word, it was just silence. This isn't the only encounter I have had with Tony, nor is it the first time I've seen him aggravate others for the sake of bitterness/poor selfish reasons. We customers local or not, do not come to this specific location just to get treated poorly, unprofessonally and have to deal with such a well established office with the poor performance of an employee of the United States Post Office. I fear for the safety of your employees as well as the well being of your daily customers who have dealt or will have to deal with their future encounters with Tony. I want a response and a promise this won't ever happen to me again when I next visit this location... or things will definitely get more resolute. read more
