This is the busiest post office I've been to. I usually try to go before 4pm as it tends to get very busy and get long lines since everyone is trying to make it in before the 5pm closing time. The staff friendliness is a hit or miss but they are always helpful and efficient. I've always only seen 2-3 people behind the counter and are usually bilingual in Chinese or Spanish. They also have self help kiosks which make things go faster and there are also drop off chutes and boxes in the lobby and on the outside which are also collected by 5pm. read more

The staff are friendly. I just wish there were more of them. Why would you only have one person working the counter on a Monday at 4pm in the afternoon? Typically, businesses that are not open on a Sunday, Mondays are their busiest days. My most recent Monday visit, the line for the counter service went all the way out to where the PO Boxes were located. I waited close to 30 minutes before I got to the front of the line... Just when you think that service couldn't get any worse. I had an important letter going out on Monday (04/20/26) and around 7:00 PM I noticed it was still there and no mail had been delivered. I asked 4 neighbors whether they received any mail that day and they said NO. Since no one ever answers the phone (626-289-1681) I emailed USPS and found out that the mail had been stolen out of the mail truck but USPS didn't notify anyone other than APD. I would just like to thank all 3 of the wonderful and helpful women behind the counter today 4/14! I recognize that their service to the Alhambra community is important and I know they work hard! I came in this evening and I had to pick up a package and it was almost 5pm on the dot. Place was packed I had children blowing my phone up I personally felt overwhelmed and being there didn't help but what did help is seeing them smile and seeing and hearing just how accommodating and kind they were. Bad experience and long waiting time even had appointment for passport application. Stepping in and tried to check in but the staff told me to join the regular line with other walk in people. Didn't understand why the lady at passport service window kept helping the people for mails and packages. After 30 minutes, other window called me but said I need to wait for that lady!!!! Another 10 minutes later, finally that lady handled my application and said document was missing and could not be submitted. Always heard about bad service here but it is close to my home. Interesting how things happen for a reason! Originally I made an appointment for a passport but in the Monterey park location. I after standing there for a few mins I realized I was missing the birth certificates :( so I had to cancel the appointment. That same day I searched for a new appointment and there was one available for this location but for the following week which worked well for us. There was a few hiccups from my end. We were beyond blessed to have met Michelle :) I have a special needs and she was very patient with my child and realistically with all 3 of us! My wife and I simply walked in without an appointment because we needed to renew our passports, which had been expired for more than ten years. There is a long queue of individuals waiting for passports. It is our own fault for not having all the necessary paperwork, including the picture ID, on hand. Michelle, the staff member, is incredibly kind, patient, and helpful throughout the entire passport renewal process. I doubt we will be able to renew our passports today without Michelle's assistance; we may need to return at another time. My accountant mailed my tax returns via Priority Mail, from Whittier to Alhambra. The package was scanned and Informed Delivery indicated that it was left in/at mailbox. That was not so. I submitted an online service request same day, which was addressed within 1 business day as promised, and the package was delivered to my mailbox the day AFTER having been scanned as delivered. From the pictures you can see the damaged condition, but there was one sliver of the envelope connecting across the tear that would have to be broken to get the contents out. So I am reasonably assured no one peeked at the contents. I have no idea where in the mailstream the damage occurred, but I am happy that the USPS online service request worked quite well in this case. So balancing the timely response with the damaged but not breached envelope, I think that averages out to a 3-star review. read more

Teresa, the postmaster of the USPS in Alhambra located at 10 W Bay State St, Alhambra, CA 91802 was extremely helpful and attentive to my questions and requests. I needed a tracking number for a package I had sent a few weeks prior and she responded promptly and was able to help me track the package successfully. She was very detailed and quick with her responses via email and overall, I was really impressed with the level of customer service and help she was able to provide. read more

Better phone system, where you don't have to sit in front of it to answer it because Teresa told me who works there, (she said she's the postmaster) said if she's at the counter helping customers, they can't hear the phone and the only way they answer it, is if they're sitting physically in front of it at the desk, that's pretty dumb. Then you can't leave a voicemail because it just hangs up after you've listened to it Ring 10 times and everything else they say. Teresa also was not very helpful until I started pushing the issue of what I was looking for, and needed...Excuse me. She said she's a postmaster. seems like it's time they need to hire people with customer service experience and qualities. I don't understand sometimes, don't these people who work at jobs for Customerservice realize that they would not have a job if it wasn't for the customers. We as customers pay their salaries. They need better training and more understanding as to why we're calling. We're not calling them because we want to say hi to them. We call them because there's a problem and then they just want to push you onto someone else. by the time you get someone to talk to, they need to understand that for all the time we spent on the phone calling them we're not happy campers anymore. We're upset they need to understand that and if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen. Everybody can be replaced there's somebody out there that needs a job and wants a job and can probably do it a lot better. I was told by the post office on Valley and Alhambra, which I must say are the best and have the best customer service, that the supervisors at the post office on Bay Street were Oscar and Rene. When I asked Teresa to speak with one of them she said they weren't available. So when Teresa has to be at the counter, why isn't Oscar or Rene answering the phones? Why are they always unavailable to speak to? I guess unless you go in and speak to them physically you'll never get to speak to them on the phone because you'll never get through because the person answering the phone will give an excuse they're not available. I did get the information I was looking for after going back-and-forth with Teresa and saying she should have the information and she was telling me to go to some website and getting it. I said well you should have it there. It was like pulling teeth from her and of course With me not giving up she did have the information I needed. She just didn't want to give it to me. She wanted to push me off on some website. She's pushing the buck to someone else. I definitely would not recommend this post office. If I could, I would rate it a -10 but I guess you have to put at least one star that I'm not happy with. read more

I have been using the US post office late for sending packages every now and then, but I never used any of the other services that the post office offers. I have always had a pleasant and fast experience with USPS. I also feel like this location is better driving wise than the other location in South Pasadena because there's more parking spaces. I can park in the library or Citibank if its not too busy. Also, I feel like everytime I have been here I have gotten out within 15 minutes, but I might just be lucky. There are spaces to stand to keep social distancing; however, I did leave once and by that time the line was almost getting to the door. Getting to the location can be tricky if it's your first time so I suggest coming prepared and making sure you come through the entrance from the civic library side. read more

Long 20-30 minute wait with a P.O. Box. The front desk 2 female clerks are rude. I purchased a P.O. Box for $99.00 1 year contract. Sometimes there is a gentlemen that you can hand your yellow card indicated you have a Large package. On occasion when you provide your yellow card. They can not find my package after waiting in line 20-30 minutes. Do not bother getting a P.O. Box here. I came in today and had a terrible experience with Sarah, the older Asian women with short black hair and red lipstick. I saw other people had a similar issue with her so I know it wasn't just my unique experience. I came in with a quick question to get answered and waited to see if she could help answer but she kept ignoring me until the another customer kindly told her it was fine to help me out. Like, for a customer to have better service than a worker is extremely telling. She had SO much attitude and wouldn't even look at me while talking. Based on the other reviews, management really needs to do another training with her because she is absolutely ruining people's experience at the Alhambra USPS. One of the oldest institution in the country. USPS is an independent agency of the executive branch of the US federal govt. responsible for delivering and providing postal service. This USPS office is located at downtown Alhambra off Main st and Garfield avenue. I have been to nearby postal office (i.e., SouthPasadena) and I gotta say this branch is housed in a huge modern building. I came here to pick up a package and it was quick and easy. Short line. Staff, an old lady, was amiable and professional. Prices were reasonable from stamps to boxes. Moreover, they offer passport service. Front parking lot is small but plenty of street parking. This is absolutely the worst post office I have ever been in. I don't even like going in and using the automated machine. Recently I packaged my own thing, made my own label, and dropped it in the slot. MY MISTAKE!!! The package never as sent out and was never even scanned to show in transit. When I went in, skinny older Asian guy was very rude saying more than once "you're just gonna have to wait"... when I simply asked if he could look in the back or something other than give me an obstinate answer. Needless to say my package was never even in transit, they there did NOTHING for me and even when I wrote to have it investigated they claim they looked into and it was never sent so it could t be insured. I'm August 1, 2022, at about 5:15 AM, I mailed 6 envelopes. Two of the envelopes contained personal checks from my checking account. One was a rent payment, and the other was an insurance payment. The other two were from my mothers personal checking account. One for her phone bill, one for her catv bill, one for her water & power bill, and one was for her Medicare bill. My rent check was fraudulently cashed. Close to $2000.00. Trying to retrieve that money is an ongoing ordeal involving my Credit Union, my apartment manager, and the Alhambra PD. My insurance payment never was cashed- a "stop payment" was issued. I had to close my checking account, re-open a checking account, cancel my old accounts checks, and have new checks issued. Fortunately, my mothers water and power payment was processed correctly. But, her CATV, Medicare, & phone payments never were received. "Stop payments" were issued. I'm no detective, but it appears to me that something stinks. It appears to me that there's something going on, and it may involve some of the employees at the Bay State Street USPS. This is a large facility open till 6pm daily and is a full service post office. I've been coming to this Post Office since I've moved here 9 years ago. Never had I ever been so rudely treated and talked too. There was no instructions that I needed to seal my returning package (that I understand), but the lady that was assisting me had the NASTIEST attitude about it. She told me I can go purchase tape to seal it up, that is fine no problem at all. But she told me "You need to take your package with you" with a disgusted, angry and irritated look on her face. I don't care if you were having a bad day, but this is no way to treat anyone. Passport Services...open during lockdown. Social distancing protocols in place, Easily made appointment online. Forms available when I discovered I had to redo form in black ink. Big shoutout to Diane who was friendly, helpful, patient knowledgable while being very professional. This is a very busy post office, but passport services were fast and efficient. The passport service at this post office is atrocious! The woman in charge has unbelievable requirements. If you call the USPS 800 #, they will tell you that walk ins are available until 4pm. She tells you that you must be checked in at her line by 1pm so that you can be seen that day before 4pm. How is that a walk in?!? The rest of the services are fine and the line seems to move quick enough. Just please, go elsewhere for passport service. read more

This review is for SARAH and her terrible customer service. I waited in line for 30-45 minutes and realized mid-way that I didn't tape up my package. So when Sarah called me up to check me out - I asked if she could do me a favor and tape up the package for me since I forgot. Mind you, it was a bag and only needed a 3-inch piece of tape. She immediately said no with the worst attitude. I asked her again and told her I only needed a piece. She flat out said no again and instructed me to buy one for $5. I understand the package must've been taped beforehand but I thought it was extremely rude. All I needed was a piece of tape and it's not like it comes out of her paycheck. It's not like I was demanding or rude to her. I waited 30-45 minutes, I just needed a 3-inch piece of tape, and she couldn't help me out and a favor. She is the epitome of a stuck up, city worker. Can't even do a favor or be generous during the holidays. No wonder this post-office has such bad reviews. There's another Latina girl who works here and she is great. My go to Post Office in Alhambra. Almost all employees are helpful or nice here. You appreciate the employees here more if you visit another Post Office in another city like Los Angeles. The lines may be long, but move rather quickly. If you use USPS.com you can drop off here anytime day or night. You can sent almost anything you would normally send from the window at the self service machines after the windows close in the Lobby. Buy postage, stamps, certified mail, registered and insured mail and even Express Overnight and Priority 2 day mail. Priority Mail 2 day flat rate envelope for $5.60 anywhere in US. I understand walking up and placing mail in mail boxes is not the job of a USPS worker. I also understand delivering packages that don't fit in the mailbox to the front door is not the job of a USPS worker. It's easy to assume "mail carriers" actually carry your mail to your home, but that is a very incorrect assumption. As with my mail carrier, I'm very lucky. He drives his vehicle at a very high rate of speed into my driveway. Jumps out and tosses the mail over the fence. Sometimes he walks in a shoves several packages into my mailbox, which all hang out. But nonetheless, I am blessed. Today I received a pack that clearly stated "DO NOT BEND", which was ordered from USPS. I am sure you must know how to read in order to deliver packages for USPS. It's nice to know USPS hires anyone, no matter their inabilities. Thank you United States Postal Sevice Alhambra. You have managed to misdeliver a package every single month for the past 8 years.
