On Decemeber 11th, I delivered a 24 x 20 x 5" heavily insured/fragile package to the Diamond Heights Post Office for USPS Advantage shipping from SF to Mpls. I pack my shipments like I'm shipping a priceless Faberge egg. Of course, I followed tracking only to see on Sunday December 14th the package was headed for the San Francisco Distribution Center with scheduled delivery on Tuesday, December 16th. What?? Calling 1-800 was of no help whatsoever! I was told I would have to wait until Tuesday to ascertain what was going on. Are you fricking kidding me!? This morning December 16th, I was left on hold for 32 minutes waiting for a live agent to explain this snafu ('situation normal all effed up') usps shipping experience. I finally hung and called 800-USPS right back. AI kept on attempting to divert me but I kept yelling 'agent'. Don't think for one second they didn't know I was pissed! Finally, i get an agent who unapologetically stated the package WAS PUT ON THE WRONG TRUCK! You have got to be joking! How many times was this package scanned over the last 5 days?? How was this not caught? How many brain cells are at work at the USPS to have this happen? I have just viewed the tracking number again AND THERE IS NO UPDATE REGARDING THIS SHIPMENT! Maybe the postal carrier/truck has to actually deliver the package to my address for this to be rectified? USPS should not RECEIVE ONE DIME for their lack of service with this shipment! Never again - I'll ship Fedex Ground before entrusting a pricey - fragile package with the USPS. AS OF DECEMBER 18TH, TRACKING FOR THIS PACKAGE HAS SIMPLY DISAPPEARED! There is absolutely NO REFERENCE TO THIS PACKAGE. Where do large heavily insured (up to sales price) packages go? You can be they're not sitting on a shelf... UPDATE: Shipped out on Dec. 11 @ 12noon from San Francisco and arrived in Minneapolis on Dec. 20th - 9 days later... 'left hand clearly does not have a clue what the right hand is doing', i.e., "points to internal dysfunction, like departments working at cross-purposes". This was the worst service I've ever had I end up walking out I live in the neighborhood I've always had great service but what was up with today at all the Postal Service I went to they only had one person. then they wouldn't help you when you ask they just told you to go to the wall and go pick what you want and bring it back what kind of services that, that's just rude and there was a line to the door and people were irritated. This is my local post office - the place where all my packages are held for pickup. Sure, there are closer post offices & why they chose to identify this location as my "main spot" is beyond me but I roll with it Never try to call this location - you'll never get through. This is an in-person-only kind of establishment But there's a Safeway, a Walgreens, & a BofA in the same complex so never a waste of time Over the years, I've learned to go right as they open & the lines are reasonable more often than not. I will also say that this location more often than not, will have people stationed at all their open windows & this is a rarity when most other post offices usually only have 1 person at the window From my own experience as well as what I witness, customers are being helped efficiently or at least as quickly as possible. 1 star for the stupid lady behind the counter. I was mailing out about 30 post cards, and asked her for the special "post card" stamp. She told me those no longer existed, and that I had to pay the full forever stamp price for postcards. Seemed fishy but it had been a while since I mailed a post card, so I believed her. VASTLY INCOMPETENT POST OFFICE AND LOCAL SERVICE REGION. The people here try to be nice, but the service is downright incompetent and they often use an excuse that there is a second post office warehouse serving this area where all the good stuff happens, so it's not their fault. Story 1: I called the USPS phone number on their web site and they told me to go to this post office to pick up my vacation hold mail. When I get to the post office they tell me that my mail is not there, it's at the warehouse. And no, I can't get it because it's private. They lend me their phone to call, but of course nobody ever answers. Finally they said that the only way of reaching the warehouse is to fax them! So we write a letter together to fax them. The next day my mail finally shows up, after a wasted trip to this post office. Story 2: Get the "we missed you" delivery notice but everything on it is illegible. I attempt to reschedule delivery 2 days later using the USPS's online system. Of course nothing comes. I can't even call to inquire about the package because the article number on the notice is illegible. So I have to make a special trip to this post office again. They once again blame it on "the warehouse", that there's nothing they can do here, and no, the public can't go to the warehouse. When I ask them how come I was told that the package would be delivered today (by the online system), they are at a loss and deny that I was told that, until they check their own records and then find out that I was telling the truth. But again, they have no excuse, other than to say "stay home another day tomorrow and hopefully it will turn up." If you ask to speak to a supervisor, you cannot, because the supervisor is -- you guessed it -- not at this post office, but works only at the warehouse! And no, you can't go there, or call them! They said I could write a letter to the supervisor with my complaint, and -- you guessed it again -- they would FAX it to them for me. I wonder if I will get a call back. I wish the USPS would hurry up and go out of business. Their incompetence is truly staggering, especially in this zip code. read more

I find the people in the post office to be nice. Though, which ever division is responsible, I often do not receive my mail like others in this district. I contacted usps several times about this and I still am missing credit cards from banks, checks from clients, etc. This has cost me as a client of mine will not write another check since the owner is saying it was sent... and she will not look into it. So I just have to live with the fact that I am possibly going to lose expensive items and important financial documents. I also consistently receive mail from the block next to mine with the same house number. This all just started happening in the last year. It appears that our district is the first to be cut with the usps financial set backs they have been having recently. Makes sense as there are more businesses in the center of the city and they are going to take priority over our measly little residential area. read more

Its been a year since my review and frankly not a single thing has changed. Recently my vacation mail was lost! I have been trying to retrieve it from USPS for 3 days now. 3 days i have had to leave work early to go over here and be told that no one can help me but they will "fax another request to their warehouse" and I can come back tomorrow to see if my request was fulfilled. For those of you that dont know, there is a "warehouse" that services all of the post offices in SF and what I am about to say is the most pathetic thing i have ever heard from a PUBLIC AGENCY, I even feel silly repeating it, so please brace yourself.. Here it goes: There is a "warehouse" that recieves and distributes all of the mail in SF. Apparently, the general public CANNOT visit or call the "warehouse" their ONLY form of communication is FAX. AND if you ask to speak with a manager you are out of luck because ALL of the managers work at this inconspicuous warehouse. The only thing you can do is write your complaint down and they will FAX it to the managers attention at the warehouse. I told you its pathetic, which is why I give them 1 star! read more

This happened in early May - sorry for the late posting. The worker Daniel was incredibly rude and stomped on my foot. - luckily I talked with a manager and they said they would reprimand him. I got a package slip that said they were open till 5:30pm I got there at 5:10 and they were closed. Posted times were different. I waited to talk with someone. I just wanted to ask why the times were different? And if this was new. The worker Daniel wouldn't let me ask my question. He was incredibly rude and belligerent. I blocked the door so I could ask one simple question and he kept ramming the door into me. He then stomped on my foot after I kept asking why won't you let me ask my question. I shouldn't have blocked the door but he also shouldn't have resorted to physical violence. I was calm and just wanted to ask a question. He was rude and disrespectful from the beginning. read more

This is a great place to go for passport services. I made an appointment and was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes including photos. The woman who helped me was fast and efficient. Keep in mind that I had my application and I.D. documents completed and ready to go. Also, I parked in the back of the building that eventually dead ends, but it turned out to be a good thing since there's a back entrance that leads directly to the post office. read more

Postal service is lame enough in this district that we are considering moving just for that reason. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but something is horribly, deeply wrong. It's so messed up that I wish I could write an individual one star review for each person in this list of reviews who gave more than one star. (Why do people go onto Yelp to write a five star review because they were actually able to receive a package or drop a letter in a box? I want a mail carrier who looks and sounds like Johnny Cash and can knock down a blue angel by throwing a small package before I give a five star review.) Right now, we are fighting, daily, to simply receive a package from Wisconsin. It is very simple. We've requested redelivery a number of times, played by the rules, but it's like they think we're requesting re-*Deliverance*, as in make our experience feel like a trip to the Ozarks gone wrong. Unlike some reviewers, I *did* get a human on the phone! The human said something unintelligible, and I said "Is this Diamond Heights Post Office?" She said, "yes, closed. Call back some time." So apparently, you can get someone on the phone after hours (perhaps if they're expecting a personal phonecall), but you will not be able to get any business done. read more

Hours have changed, but they have not updated the hours listed on the orange slips they leave you when you have to go into the office to pick up your package. The card says they are open until 5:30 and when I arrived at 5:01PM the doors were locked and the woman inside ignored the crowd outside, everyone seemed to be confused about the hours change too. I've received 3 or 4 wrongly delivered pieces of mail in the last couple of weeks from the Diamond Heights Post Office. Then, I received a card for a parcel marked: final notice, and it was the first time they attempted delivery. When I phoned the number on the card to reschedule, I was met by an automated system that was poorly programmed and difficult to understand. (I'm sure they could have found computer voices that sound clearer then ones from the 1990's). I went online to reschedule delivery, following the url given on the card, and found there was no record of the article number appearing on the notice. Kafka is running this post office. Unless you are a great fan of systems that are designed psychologically torture the user, stay away. read more

They are understaffed which results in long lines when you have to physically be present at this post office. They are difficult to contact if there is an issue- for example, with a package pick-up etc. My mail is delivered around 6pm each day...... I hate the fact that it is delivered so late. I've asked for an earlier delivery time but nothing has changed. read more

This place is a black hole for mail. Seriously, if you drop off packages they add days onto delivery. Moreover, if you need supplies for totally legitimate reasons, i.e. mailing USPS packages (!) they won't give them to you. Oh, and they are often closed even when their hours state open. read more

Having been here about fifteen times now, I've formed a good opinion of this particular post office. The lines don't get too long. There seems to always be at least two counters operating. The people are efficient and knowledgeable. I've sent all kinds of boxes...domestic and overseas...registered, certified, media rate...etc. Everything has worked out perfectly. Parking is very easy. Paid extra for Next Day Saturday delivery LA to San Francisco -FAIL Didn't make it. Shocker. GO FED- EX - more accountable then USPS. The future of USPS???? No wonder your agency is headed for bankruptcy - too bad your employees don't understand what that means. After I asked if the postal worker could look to see if my package was somewhere waiting to be delivered for Monday, she went to the back and "pretended" to search because I presented her with a printout of my own "tracking" research showing it was there. I know that she wasn't searching because I could see her through the opening to the back and she was obviously sorting incoming packages that were stacked from the front desk (it was almost closing time on Saturday). When she came back to tell me she couldn't locate my package, I told her that I know she didn't search - her reply was "you have a right to your opinion" I knew my package was somewhere either with the delivery person or within this PO because the website's tracking info provided this much... Nonetheless, the postal worker at this counter was no help and the package didn't show up until Monday afternoon - at which time, it was left inside my front door gate - no ring of the doorbell or txt message, or anything! I was home the entire time, waiting for this package and just happened to hear the postman's truck drive away from my home. I promptly filed for a refund for the shipping costs since this is the stated policy. If it doesn't get delivered on time, you are entitled to a full refund (which takes 2 weeks to process of course). read more

Definitely not the friendliness staff around (note calibrated to all SF postal workers - i.e. grumpy is typical). EVERYtime I go there, there is at least one customer leaving very anger because he or she has been treated poorly. As "Natalie Z" noted, the staff "act as though they are doing you a favor...". So the odds are pretty good that you will be treated poorly. The sad thing is that I cannot wait to move out of 94131 so I do not have to deal with this horrific postal office again. read more

This post office is slightly better than your normal post office, mainly because it's in a relatively unknown place. At least the "secret" Safeway is visible. This post office is even more secret. During peak hours, this place gets busy and the lines can be long. Most of the people who go here are people from Glen Park/Diamond Heights, or really old people, so the speed of the line can vary from quick to painfully slow. To make matters worse, they only have two registers behind the counter, so if you get stuck behind 90-year-old grandma or 40-something yuppie with a billion packages, you're screwed. +1 star for having the Automatic Postal Service machine thing. Even though it doesn't allow me to choose Media Mail (which is normally what I'm sending), in the event I need to send something priority, I can be in and out in less than 5 minutes. Most of the old people won't go near the thing, so there's usually no line. If you bring your CA-bound mail before 4PM Monday-Friday, it'll ship that same day. That's especially useful if you're returning Netflix movies and you like to maximize your movie watching. read more

This post office really needs to do more training for their staff so they can communicate better and understand their own rules better in English . I am trying to send the package to Indonesia and one of the staff name V*****a insisted that the recipient address should be in English which is doesn't make sense at all, this is not the first time I sent the package to Indonesia and was never told about this "regulation". She probably meatn that address should be in Alphabet which is exactly what I used to write the recipient address I am not writing in Chinese character neither Japanese or other characters than alphabet. They lost a christmas package shipped to me (a good sized one) and after days of trying I still can't get a person to pick up from the number they gave me to call. You disappointed one person for Christmas because that was their gift! If you want your package to get to it's destination including the ones shipped to you then I would use UPS or FedEx if this is your local post office. NIGHTMARE. I have been going here forever. Lived near by for 40 years. Cannot believe the level of incompetence and resistance. ordered a product from Target. The carrier tried to deliver then dropped a form. I went to this office personally to say redeliver. Strangely they took me in back to show me the package. They said it won't fit in the truck. Which was not true as it already had been in the truck. It was clear they wanted me to take it. I am injured and unable to do that. On 12/5/2009 I went into this posit office and sent a package priorty mail with tracking. to Fresno CA. On January 19/2010 the local office said that the item may not have been scanned when delivered (it was never delivered according to the recipient) , it may have been mis-delivered, or lost or destroyed on route. They gave me the customer service number 1-800-ask-usps. on 1/19/10 the customer service rep said did you purchase insurance. I said no. They said all they can do is investigate this and we will tell you what happened. But our computers are down so you have to call back. So they basically told me I'm SOL. So I have to sue the post office for damages. How could they screw this up? Fed Ex delivered the package. All I did was readdress the package back to the sender using supplies provided by the post office. There is no accountability for Priority Mail!!!!!
