There's one staff member here that's always friendly and really tries to go the extra mile. I really appreciate her. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff that I've interacted with seem to hate their jobs and the service here has been steadily going downhill for years now. One of the most frustrating things about this post office is how they constantly misplace and lose packages. You show them a tracking number that shows the package arrived and it's hit or miss. If they can't find it, they'll tell you to "come back another day". You go back a few days later and they still can't locate it. And then when they do locate the package (if they ever do), they send the package back to the sender because you didn't pick it up (WTF?!). This has happened so often over the years that now, whenever I have a package arriving at this location, I make the sign of the cross, say 10 Hail Marys and (despite not being a believer) pray to the Virgin that the package will actually make it into my hands in one piece. If you're expecting a package here, don't hold your breath. Also, good luck calling them; they never answer their phones. read more

This is a nice Post Office. The lobby has lots of windows and natural light. They have an extensive and colorful collection of greeting cards and supplies available for purchase. The Self-Service Station is state of the art and seldom busy. It is my go-to. And despite rumors to the contrary, I witnessed a USPS lady hand a customer a roll of tape to use - no charge. Even when there is a line (and there probably will be) it moves pretty quickly. I had to wait the other day to get a QR code scanned. But perhaps that will become self-service soon as well. So, five stars for the USPS. However, I would like to add a bonus separate review for one of my fellow USPS patrons... One star for the guy in front of me who, during the holidays --during a pandemic-- waited in line to buy a single stamp for a single envelope. 1 Star to you sir, for making the whole world less efficient. For real though people, buy stamps in advance, buy them by the book -support the USPS! read more

They honestly try. Service with USPS isn't perfect, but every time I have come in to this location I am greeted with kindness and a lot of effort to try and solve any package delivery issues. It's not my closest post office, but it's convenient when running errands in the Castro. read more

This is where I get do ALL of my mailing, have a PO Box, and the Staff for the most part has been really lovely to me here. Especially Maggie. She is a WONDERFUL Employee! Everytime I get in queue I end up hoping that I will get directed towards her. She is super friendly, bubbly, and helpful! Yolanda is also amazing. Valerie and Kevin have also given me amazing customer service! Sometimes the queues are long and its hot inside but Im giving this Post Office 5 stars for the help the Staff here have given me and for all of the services I use and receive here. This is my favourite Post Office in San Francisco and conveniently close to Walgreens, Starbucks, Mollie Stones, Eureka Valley Rec Centre, Castro Country Club, 33 & 24 Muni Lines and everything else in the Castro! read more

When you're in the mood to get totally and completely irritated with the world, go to the Post Office on 18th. It's home to the most inadequately run outlet for sending things for double the price you could send using most other private options. If it wasn't for my carrier dropping off my packages there (usually he leaves my boxes on my neighbor's stoop for the crackheads to rifle through and sell off the contents - so trust me, when he has the "courtesy" to return them to the PO, I don't complain). I don't complain until after the 42nd minute I spend standing in line as I watch the postal workers move at the lightening speed of molasses. Oh and by the way, their prices change - by the minute - nothing is consistent and usually it's cheaper to ship overseas then it is to send stuff to Oakland. All that with no reasonable explanation serves for an (sarcastically) exciting trip to mail or pick up your shit. read more

This location shows different telephone numbers on different sites. 415-431-3720 on USPS main site is always busy, even when the station is not open. 415-431-2702 is never answered. I called 4 different times today. The personnel at the 94114 24th Street post office always answer the phone. I agree with Ms X's review, this "customer service" is soul-killing. read more

Received pink slip stating the package is at this facility. Went back there on 4 separate occasions (on 4 separate days) as per instructed by the staff member. Each time I went back they had to search the stockpile for 30+ minutes only to tell me they don't have it and come back another day. read more

The has been no maintenance of our local post office for far too long. The windows are absolutely filthy and would require minimal effort to clean and maintain. I can't understand how the staff can stomach seeing the front windows everyday--it is truly disgusting. Tiles missing should be replaced and the sidewalks maintained. read more

Maybe it was become I got here first thing on a Monday morning, but the two ladies who we're helping customers were super friendly and efficient. The hours for this place are a bit tricky. I think they open at 8:30am weekdays for "self-service" items like stamps and whatnot, but the counter with the employees only opens at 9:00am. read more

Pros: The staff is friendly and have been there for years. The line is fairly short most of the time Parking is often available outside or around the corner Cons: The staff often gives me different opinions about policies and prices. For example, one clerk will tell me that a small, bubble-pack envelope costs 44c to ship, another tells me 88c. One tells me it needs a customs form when shipping overseas, another tells me it doesn't. Still another told me "it's a good idea" to use a customs form. WTF - either it's required or it's not. Do yourself a favor and research policies and prices at USPS.com before going in there. read more

Even though I have to pick up pacakges at the Post Office in the Upper Haight, I still like the walk here from my house; a 10-15 minute jaunt, usually. Been going here for years and, for the most part, never have to wait in line too long. The exception being around Xmas time. Then I have reading material or a crossword on me. The one problem that I see slowing the lines down is the customers who don't have their shit together. I've seen people wrapping last-minute presents in line before boxing and taping them up, all the while maintaining their place in the line. People! just get everything done before hand!! Oh, and it's not a sure thing that your letter/package will get there in 3 day delivery even though you're paying a higher price for this service. Hell, I've paid for overnight and had it delivered the 2nd day! Just know that eventually it will get to its destination unless it's lost. Makes me wonder if the Pony Express was replaced a little to soon... read more

I arrived with a big bag of wedding invitations that needed to be hand canceled. It was exactly the type of special handling I figured the postal workers would hate, and give me a hard time over. Just the opposite was true! They put my invites in a separate box and wrote a big, 8.5x11 note that they placed on top to make sure they all got handled with care. Such a better experience than the 23rd Street Post Office, but that's a story for a different review. read more

I have never had a single problem at the post office here. The people are extremely nice, Paul, etc. the whole crew! The lady behind the window with the Guinness Book of Records nails is a hoot! Always friendly and funny and she regularly asks the line if they are *just* picking up...how nice. I understand what they do and that it isn't easy working for the USPS...hey, The Mail Never STOPS. Do yourself a favor and try to brighten their day for a change if you don't already, the karma will come back to you in spades. If I *did* have a complaint it would be that they don't have free valet parking service nor serve adult refreshments in line while you wait. Boy wouldn't that be nice ;) read more

Our particular station, I was told on a three way with Amazon.com, has a policy of not delivering a package, but rather putting a "come get it or call to schedule delivery. I don't pay two day delivery to have it become three by this delay. And secondly the dozen or so rescheduling I arranged with Amazon on a three way, not once materialized. Over a dozen. Then they hold onto the package for at least three weeks after refusing to deliver, delaying any refund. I live in a senior/disabled building. This infuriating tactic to force recipients to come get the package is made further shameful by the fact that carriers see what type of dwelling to which they are delivering; they know it's a senior disabled community yet force this community to do something that is often either impossible (carry packages and pay for transportation as a majority of this population does not drive) or a huge deal to arrange. I as well as Amazon have tried in vein by contacting that offices postmaster general who obviously refuses to address this as the USPS driver dumped (not delivered) a forty pound package to me in the lobby. \ One worker said they don't deliver over floor one (as a contract Fed Ex fed me...which was BS). USPS has fed me this lie as well. USPS: Step up and do your job. You are paid upfront trusting you will deliver on that promise to deliver. Either stop taking our money or do your job. read more

I'd like to think it has something to do with budget cuts due to the sequester but I'm pretty sure most Post Offices are just notorious for slower service and inefficient. My trip here wasn't horrible last week but it certainly could have been much quicker. Not ragging on the two employees, lord knows how much they have to put up with everyday dealing with everyone that comes in and out of the Post Office but things could run a little more smoothly here. Word of advice: just be home when your package is delivered so you don't have to deal with coming in to pick it up. read more

The Castro Post Office doesn't have a parking lot which can make using it very difficult as parking is practically nonexistent in the Castro during normal business hours unless it's early. There is a green 10 minute zone in front of the PO that has space for two cars and often times there are two cars so you circle and circle and circle..... I've a P.O. Box there and find that the staff are generally friendly and helpful. I don't mind waiting in line if there is a line as often the people are so interesting to watch. read more

This place is overall a not so bad place to go to but I usually just ship my items out at the do it yourself counter. (I mostly ship ebay dvds stuff). This place is to be avoided during the holiday, line out the door, I just have a problem when one of the Chinese or Latin woman put up a sign that said *window closed, please use next window* when there are about 10 people in line waiting and only 2 cashier working, I meant "Come On!" do your stocking later, help the customers first. There is one Chinese woman with a thick accent, she seems not really friendly and just look down a lot, seems like she doesn't like doing her job. I usually go in there, avoid the line and just ship it out myself but I definitely waited for about 20 minutes long to do Media/Parcel shipping before during the holiday, I guess I'm still a bit annoyed by that one experience. read more

staff is really nice, and there is another option in the area but its double the price and there staff changes daily. I like seing the same staff, there always nice with no attitude yea there are lines here and there, but they also have machines you can use if your one of those that complain about lines everywhere you go. And...same thing happened again! Package undelivered after I talked to my mail person, filled in their pink paper slip, phoned, AND filed an electronic re-delivery!! ------ Received a slip for a piece of certified mail. -I filled in slip with signature and redelivery for the following week. -I went online and scheduled redelivery, and got 2 confirmation emails -on the day of the scheduled redelivery I got a reminder email, stayed home all day. No mail. Following day, I spoke to my mail carrier, who did not know anthing about it (although he barely seemed to speak English, so I'm not sure whether he understood) but said, as I understood, that he would look for it at the post office. I also gave him the signed slip, since it had not been picked up--I figured he would understand that. No mail. Nothing since--it's been one week (5 business days): no new slip, no piece of important mail. (There was no sender identified on the slip, so I don't know if it's a piece of crap I can ignore or something important.) Today I called USPS (there was only a general number online) they opened a case etc and they gave me a phone number for 'my' post office--which according to their records is a) NOT my local post office (which the slip was from) and b) a PO that's not even on the map I can find! When they admitted this was weird--after I pointed this out, and insisted they give me a backup option-- they also gave me "the post master's phone number". I called both those numbers (a few of times each)-no answer. I called the number listed here on Yelp (a few of times)--busy, everytime. read more

I dropped by the Castro post office to enquire about getting a replacement for a lost passport. The usual procedure is to make an appointment. However, when I explained to Yolanda, the worker on duty, that my passport was lost and I needed to replace my passport ASAP, she said that she could take my photo immediately. She was friendly and made sure that I actually liked the photo she took. She said that she is willing to take several to make sure the customer gets a pleasant photo for the passport! Amazing! I had about 200 mailers to send out for my job, I had never done this before and felt stressed about getting them all sent out correctly (also didn't want to be a huge burden on the post office workers). They were incredibly patient and helpful in telling me the best way to prepare all of them and everything went much better than I expected thanks to the wonderful women working there.
