Going to the post office is like going to the dentist or the DMV. You're either somewhat annoyed, in a hurry, or generally displeased before you even walk in the door. So Yelp-wise, you're sort of set up for badness. So I will only judge the Chinatown post office based on my experiences with other post office and unfortunately, they have a lot of room for improvement. Cutting to the chase: they have none of the fancy new machines for self-serve package sending. This is particularly tough here because it's very rare that the lines aren't long. And while this may be a little, hm, impolite, it does seem that the average patron here is always conducting some insanely complicated postal transaction. Even when I'm shipping something internationally, I'm in and out in less than 2 minutes. But somehow most customers are always seem to be having some sort of contentious discussion, filling out forms in triplicate, and, generally making me wait much longer than I should have to for my priority mail package drop. On the plus side, the people working here are perfectly friendly and helpful. I don't even mind their insistent upselling of stamps and packaging materials. But if you can avoid it and walk the few extra blocks to the post office on Sutter & Kearny, I'd recommend doing that instead.

Solid post office, friendly staff who got me in and out with ease. The location is in Chinatown so the staff speak both english and Chinese.

Worst post office ever... Everyone in line is metering 1 letter and counting pennies for 10 Stamps. Don't come on your lunch break.

Post offices are often understaffed so most of the time people need to wait. It no exception here but the workers, despite the fact that they were busy, tried to be helpful by giving people info and instructions as they work to save people time. Their job isn't easy so I appreciate their extra efforts.

When I finally got to the counter, the clerk told me that ONLY the supervisor can access the system to check for a change-of-address/validation letter. Here's the kicker: the supervisor went to lunch at 12:00 PM. I was there at 5:10 PM. That's over 5 hours later, and apparently, the supervisor never bothered to come back to work. No one else was authorized to help me. So my 50-minute wait was a complete waste of time. I understand people need breaks, but abandoning your post for an entire afternoon is inexcusable. If only one person in the entire building has system access, that person needs to be available during business hours. This is a federal service, not a food truck. Complete mismanagement and a total disrespect for customers' time. And this isn't even my first nightmare with this branch. A few years ago, I mailed a check through USPS from the drop box right outside this exact location, and it was stolen. When I went inside to speak with someone, they flat-out told me they can't stop thieves from raiding their mailboxes--even the ones sitting right outside their own office. So they knowingly leave unsecured collection boxes out front, admit they're powerless to protect your mail, and then make you wait nearly an hour just to be told the one person who can help took a five-hour lunch. The entire USPS system is fully compromised.

As I made my first step inside the store, I observed her to be seriously busy carrying a heavy looking box in her hands so particularly in that regard, her ability to greet an inquirer so warmly in such a stressful moment is absolutely a superpower that a lot of people in her position do unfortunately lack in today's world! Although I told her that she could take as much time as required to finish the task she had in her hands; she made me her one & only priority thus, surprised me in such a pleasing way. I have made sure that I would not leave the store without asking her what her name is, having received her incredible SERVICE, and just like her name, April literally brought a refreshing springy breeze to my experience and the lively color of her hair was like enough of a reason for me to visualize cherry blossoms in that swift interaction. This particular UPS store's indeed very lucky to have such a crew member onboard as April, who is totally capable of making you feel happy for still being able to encounter an offline, actual human interaction in today's ridiculously digitized online world; where our social laziness also translates to a serious lack of mindfulness and quite frankly and honestly, I don't know which one causes which. I am a 41 year old man and if anybody told me like even 10 years ago that one day in the not so far future, that I would find myself in rare situations where I would feel the need to say "Thank You" to someone, just for the Goodness in them, I would've only laughed out loud as that would sound odd under the circumstances of being a human back then. Thank you, April. I appreciate you. And if you see this, please remember to listen to the version of Lovesong by Adelle as per the conversation we've shared while The Cure's Original Recording of the song was playing in the store that time.
