I'm glad I came here today, the staff here are nicer than some of the employees at most USPS facilities. I don't recall from experience of encountering big grievances with the PO employees. As a USPS customer myself, I can tell that some post office employees are extremely rude! On the other hand, there are a handful of postal employees who are very nice and friendly. These are the folks who are serious when it comes to achieving customer service excellence, they help ensure every customer gets their transactions taken care of in an efficient and professional timely manner. I don't know how often people in North Beach need to go to the Post Office to pick up a parcel after a delivery attempt has been made, but being a volume shopper on eBay and having my purchases sent to my office in North Beach means that I need to go in about once a month on average, to get some package that wasn't able to be delivered because I was out of the office or some other reason. The North Beach Annex is unlike any other Post Office. There are no retail facilities here; you can't ship or buy stamps or rent a PO box -- it's strictly for picking up mail that's been held or can't be delivered. It's like a warehouse of mail that's in transit. Having said that, it's MUCH nicer than having to stand in line at your local PO for 15 minutes, just to be dealt with by some surly clerk who has no interest in serving you. Every person I've dealt with here is utterly nice and helpful, and I've never had to wait to be helped. I wish all San Francisco Post Offices provided as pleasant of an experience as I always have here. read more

Though I don't want to use UPS (they leave the package anywhere), and DHL & FEDEX is too expensive, but the good ole USPS mail service is still the best. They've upgraded and revised their website, making doing everything you'd normally do at a post office as easy as possible, plus if you do it all online at home, they'll give you a discount for printing your postage-included mailing label from your printer. What I especially like is that they allow deliveries to our military at FPO/APO addresses, but LOVE the delivery confirmation service (for jes 70-cents more). I like seeing where my package or letter is and the expected date of delivery. If you check the same day of dropping off your precious item at the post office, you'll see an error msg advising you that it's not in their system yet. I turned in my package before 2pm on a Monday and later that evening saw my package at the track & confirm page. The USPS is trying hard to keep up with all the other delivery companies, and in my opinion they're doing well! read more

I haven't reviewed anything on Yelp in so long, and I understand that during COVID there is a surge of deliveries, but this office serving 94133 has demonstrated so much incompetence over the years I just need to articulate it. Frankly, calling them incompetent would be a compliment. Last year I literally received a Christmas card, torn in half, 6 months after Christmas. I've had important, time sensitive paperwork sent to me, only to disappear for 3.5 weeks and show up well after I needed it. Currently, I'm dealing with a package that has been sitting there for 10 days after an "attempted" delivery (seriously, I have been home for 4 months, there was no attempt), no movement of the package, despite me putting in repeated re-delivery requests. They are also claiming that postage was never paid; however, it's from Etsy, so how the heck did it get here in the first place? I have lived in 94109 and did not have nearly the same types or volume of issues with mail as I have had in the 7 years I've lived in my current place. I call 94133 the Bermuda Triangle of mail. Unfortunately, you can complain as much as you want but since you're stuck with them, USPS doesn't have much incentive to actually improve its services. read more

This is the worst post office I have done business with. I recommend no one have their packages or anything sent to the specific location. Recently ordered jewelry had my package sent to the post office at Fisherman's Wharf 3 days has passed and they can someone lost my package it's nowhere to be found. I was told by one of the post office workers that it was delivered to the wrong address all they ask is if I had insurance and that was it that can't do anything about it I recommend for anyone to not use this location to ship or receive mail. If I could give them 0 stars I would. They NEVER bring your packages, they just bring a "we couldn't deliver, come pick it up" note. I've been calling the post office for an hour and a half, someone finally picked up "Brenda", and I expressed my annoyance that they never actually bring the packages, just a notice, and can they redeliver and leave it at the door. She said no, I said I knew they could walk down one flight of stairs, and she said the guy has gout and can't walk down the 8 stairs to the apartment, and the union would be on them if he had to, to which I expressed surprise that he can walk up and down the crazy hills of Russian Hill, but somehow one small flight of stairs down is not possible. Perhaps if the mailman has such horrific gout, he shouldn't be walking all over the neighborhood, no? And perhaps this place should hire more people to pick up the phones, as other reviewers on here and the internet have expressed annoyance that they never pick up their phones. Why is the post office SO unhelpful and seem like they are trying to make our lives more stressful? Makes me go POSTAL read more

I live in the neighborhood, and I stay at home the whole day to wait for my package. After I go check my mailbox, there was a notice and I can only pick my package up the next day. Then I decide to take a chance to see if it's possible the sender already deliver it back to the office. I head over this post office, and ask politely if there is any possibilities that my package is back. There is one Asian lady on her probably 40's act very impolite. She just told me it's not here and gave me some kind of attitude. And she just walk away and I'm not even finish my word. This is ridiculous! That's not how you treat people! read more

In general I am a fan of the USPS. I've mailed hundreds of packages all over the world and had no complete losses, and only a few damaged items. I've found my carriers to competent and friendly. I called 4 times and the phone rang over, and over each time. Each attempt ended with a dropped call. I wasted 1 plus hour calling during their "business" hours. Why did I have to call them? Well they promised their package on August 30th, and they left a notice that they tried delivering the package on Sept 2nd. I was home all day on the 2nd. I have no problem with the NYC local post offices, but SF post offices are another story. I think SF post offices are staffed with really overworked staff who should go on a very,very, very long vacation. Update: Someone finally picked up and the person who answered was very nice and helpful. Over the years, I've had packages 'misplaced' and I've witnessed the same told to customers ahead of me in line. Seems rather inefficient a system. They make a delivery attempt and if no answer they bring it back to this 'annex' - put your address on the side of the package and put it up on a series of shelves. Some how they seem to mislabel or misplace packages in an alarming rate. Customer service seems lacking as they tell you 'we'll try looking for it' in a tone of indifference. That post office annex on Powell St is the worst ever postal service.. they lost a package of mine and they act like it's NO BIG DEAL !!! Yes I had my notice with all the numbers on it and they still could not find it .. they told me to leave my phone number with them and that they would call me BUT THEY NEVER FOUND THE PACKAGE NOR DID THEY EVER CALL ME PLUS I contacted the return people and they have never received it back so who knows whatever happened to the package who knows I lost it I lost money and the Postal Service doesn't even do anything about it I even filed a claim but nothing ever happened never nothing ever became of it.. now you figure out that one !!!!' I just can't believe that they get away with all this stuff, I have a very hard time with that... I even called the postmaster and ah yea that was the same !!! I receive fairly frequent letters and packages. I often miss them because the carrier does not bother to ring the doorbell--and I work at home! The slip that is left is invariably incomplete, so I have no idea who it is from or if it is just over-sized junk mail. Almost weekly I trudge down to North Beach annex, and among dozens of trips--I'm not making this up--they can never find it, even though I come on the day the slip says, or even wait an extra day. They never attempt to redeliver. When they can't find it at the Annex, they take my number and say they will call me. Of course, this has never happened. I have found only two things that work, and only infrequently: calling the 800 number (NEVER call the Annex directly, because they never pick up); or just say, when you're there, that you are not leaving until they find it. This has worked much better for me. Because of course it's there. The laziest group of employees, perhaps surpassing even the DMV. read more

There really isn't an option when it comes to getting your mail at home, so not much use complaining. That said, I have not received mail all week after a new gate was installed in our building that uses the same lock as the old door. I spent 2 hours calling this station with no one answering. When someone finally did, I get read the riot act for "bugging" her. Apparently, the carrier has been trying to deliver but unable to get through the gate. A simple note to residents would have helped. Instead, I had to deal with a Postmaster who was so positively annoyed that she hung up on me. I get it. You hate your job and the USPS is falling apart. the worst experience ever!!!! The post office lady literally made me cry! I went to pick up my package with my ID (which has my legal chinese name on it), my tracking number and a letter that has my address on it. Nop, she was stone cold and wouldnt give it to me!!! It was the second day and they didnt deliver the package in my building thats why i came to get it myself. Second day my bf went with MY ID and the signed tracking slip, she still wouldnt give it to us!!! WTH!!!!! She deserves to lose that government job. I shipped my package on the 16th of June via Priority mail. A service which should only take 3 days. The tracking shows that the package was supposed to have been delivered on the 19th of June but the delivery status was never updated. I called the post office and spoke with the manager (Eric Lopez) on the 21st. He assured me that he would speak to the messenger who handled that route on the 19th and get back to me with feedback on his findings later that evening but he never did. Several calls today, the 22nd, were ignored and then the phone was taken off the hook so that I could not call back. I am still yet to receive a call back with regards to my package. I am pretty sure these USPS workers are aware that tampering or withholding people's mail is a Federal offense. I will wait till the end of today to give Eric the benefit of the doubt that he is still working on the issue and just "forgot" to call me back after which i will be contacting the postmaster general and then escalating from there. read more
