Shout out to the manager Johan and his team at Mission Bay's UPS Store on 3rd Street! I'm really shocked by all the horrible reviews for this place because Johan and the previous manager Paul really took care of all my shipping needs, especially for important documents and invaluable items. They have helped me ship items across the globe and they have all safely arrived at their destinations, unharmed, all in one piece. Yes, the UPS Store and UPS shipping is more expensive than other shipping options, but I do feel you are paying for premium service and quality, as well as a guarantee. I just made a really big move and Johan and his team made sure I got every single box within a week. Given the distance I moved, I was really shocked at the pristine condition of my belongings once they arrived and also with how fast the shipping was! Thank you for all of your help and for staying overtime with my friends and I when we were manically shipping 10+ boxes that one night!! I paid over $200 to ship two documents internationally, only to find out later that I would have to pay another $200 just to have them released--all because UPS made a mistake in how they were shipped. I just had an unexpected abelist experience here at UPS. Today at the store the UPS the associate behind the counter seemed incredibly rushed, even though there were only two customers in the store for the majority of my visit. They kindly mentioned I could use the self checkout as they were helping the customer in front of me for a bit. I thanked them and stated I will need help, so I'll wait (I'm visibly disabled). After a bit of a wait, another associate emerged from the back, and quickly helped me. As I thanked them I observed "that was quick!" since they had rapidly handled two transactions for me that I expected to take longer... This is when UPS associate 1 chimed in stating "See that's why I suggested the self checkout...and on and on...." which shocked me since I'm visibly disabled and had already expressed that I could not use that option. I replied "I can't use that, I'm trying not to pass out right now, and am too dizzy to read screens" as they continued espousing the benefits of self checkout while I looked on in confusion - I don't even think they heard me since they kept going on about an option that I was not physically able to use. I'm not sure what the urgency was, maybe I had just missed a wild lunch rush, but there were only two of us at the counter, so it was just bizarre all around. Seeing the other reviews, maybe this is just the normal poor customer service expected here these days, but I have been there with a line out the door without issues in the past. PSA - if a person is using a mobility aid, that means they need help with something. Don't assume you know what they need or what they are capable of. It's incredibly difficult for me to leave the house at all. If I have managed to make it to ANY store, once I'm there, I WILL need help - I don't expect to have to share my medical history in order to get assistance. Hopefully this serves as a reminder to UPS and the general public, not to make assumptions about people's abilities - when I'm on foot, I'm not suddenly healed - I'm just pushing through. Worst customer service for Amazon return. I was waiting in line to drop off my return and when it was finally my turn, the gal ( African American) said I need to go to the kiosk to do my one return so she can help next paying customer who was not doing Amazon drop off. I was not aware to do so. She could have said to use kiosk next time for my information and continue to assist me. Amazon is paying for their service which in turn I am also a paying customer. FedEx staff are friendly when I complete other returns drop off without this snobby attitude. This branch manager should definitely retrain this staff on what customer service is. So recently I had to ship out a small run of paperback books I'd printed. Each one ways about a third of a pound (including the padded paper envelope in which it resides). So I was meeting someone near the ballpark one day and had 10 on me to ship, and here's a nearby UPS Store. In I head. The place is shockingly well staffed. 5 people working, at least. Anyway, the young lady at the counter is friendly. She begins running through the first package - it's headed to Sausalito, BTW. She reaches the price. "Ok, so.. it'll be $58, guaranteed tomorrow, $46 by Wednesday or $34 by Tuesday." I'm sorry... wait, what? She repeats the nonsense. Uh, this is a quarter pound flap of paper going like a 45 minute drive. "Yeah, that's all the options." I don't care about these guaranteed dates. Just ship it UPS Ground. She not only holds fast to the absurd claim that this package costs 34 bucks to ship, but two other people come and look at the screen to confirm. I ask for my parcels back and leave. I've since shipped the remainders of this run at three other locations (Geary, Mission Bay and Fillmore) and they've all laughed at the tale of these insidious 4th street grifters. Honestly, I wasn't even going to assume it was malicious or any sort of mal-intent until I read some of the reviews here. read more

When reviewing a UPS store, we all must understand that we are reviewing the owner who holds that franchise, not the actual UPS company. A business is only good as the owner's word. This particular franchise owner went back on his word. When I called in 15 minutes prior to closing, I asked if he is willing to accommodate me if I ran about a minute or two after it closes, which is 5 p.m. on a Saturday. I would have been fine if he had said no and I would've made other arrangements. However, he said he would take my packages so long as I arrive no later than 5 minutes after closing. I arrive 2 minutes and the franchise owner denied accepting my packages and said he was closed. A business owner should not take back his word when the customer was told on the call specifically that he would still take my packages up to 5 minutes after closing. Nothing is more reflective of an owner than his approach to customer service. It is no wonder his mediocre reviews on his Yelp page shows no attempt to respond to any of his customers -- whether it was a good or a bad review. He hides behind the UPS company and allowing customers to believe it is the UPS' fault. When in reality, it is the franchise owner himself. There are better UPS stores in the city and other franchise owners that have more care in their words with their customers. I highly suggest you avoid this store and support other UPS stores. If this particular franchise owner took back his word here, there are many scenarios that this is a pattern. read more

All the stars for the kind people that work at this location. They have been helpful and done a great job. I usually go here with a QR code to print labels for my out going packages. This location is super convenient. However I think the cost to print a single page is too high. If I remember correctly I think it costs a few dollars to print a single page here, but it's less than 30 cents for a single black and white copy with the self help printer at fed ex. Otherwise great experience with the people that work here and I have gone here often for many years. read more

Rip off. They wanted $60 to ship my parcel ground, nearby fedex did it for $30. Also charge me $14 for a medium cardboard box. When I complained about the unexpectedly expensive shipping, staff explained they are a franchise, owner marks up a lot over what a company owned ups store charges. Giving UPS a bad name. I needed to drop off a package to send my Halloween shoes back to Amazon, enter in the very nicely located UPS store. I really did not want to lug this huge box to SF, but because I wanted it gone asap, the most convenient location to me would be SF, preferably next to the Caltrain station. I was fairly jazzed there was such a location and in the really cool brick building I never seem to go into as well. I walked in, banged my huge box on the door and dropped it off with the cashier - who was polite and friendly but not enough to warrant warm fuzzies, I was in and out in under three minutes. Right by the Cal Train on 4th and King next to Walgreens it is super convenient to stop by before/after work to handle some errands. Had to print out a few documents from my email, sign and scan back. They had me send the documents to their office email where they printed it out, had me sign and scan and email back to myself. We shipped two packages around 3:00. One of them was 2nd day as we had a deadline on the package. We asked what time pickup was they said it was 4:30 so no problem. The next morning I tracked it and noticed one package was shipped but the other wasn't. When I called they were not helpful and only said try tomorrow and see if it shows up on the tracking. It was delivered a day late. I suspect they probably just forgot to put that one package in with the rest when they picked it up and so it didn't get sent until the next day. If you have something important to send I would not recommend them. read more

The staff have been very courteous and professional - they seem to have quite a few staff in the back for busy times. Do not be fooled -- these guys are not a real UPS store they just claim it in their name (which should seriously be illegal). They have ridiculous fees and do not stand by their insurance OR packaging. I paid $200 to ship a package that they broke the contents of to the point of the sound system not even working (~$1000) and then they refused to refund me any money despite the fact that I purchased their 'insurance' which apparently isn't insurance at all despite their employees advertising it that way. Also, while no other UPS stores charge you anything to pick up packages there, this store charges you $20! THATS MORE THAN YOU PROBABLY PAID TO SHIP THE PACKAGE THERE. The only reason this place is still in business is their location... but it's a trap! Don't go! It's not worth it. For domestic shipping, these guys are great. Friendly staff, speedy service. For international, I highly recommend avoiding. UPS' strength is domestic and it shows. When I tried to shop internationally, here's what I experienced: 1) they said they can only track in-country. Once it's in the foreign country, they can't vouch for how long it'll take. 2) they didn't know to ask me for a Commercial Invoice. Two days later, they called me saying I needed to send them a commercial invoice. 3) I called back as soon as I got the message, at 4 pm on Friday. The lady was not too kind, and said she did domestic and didn't know anything about international. She said the guy who handled international had left for the weekend. 4) I emailed the commercial invoice on Monday morning. A few hours later, the package was marked return to sender. Why? I just lost 5 days in a time sensitive shipment. I discovered later the cost to FedEx 6 lbs of documents is almost the same as UPS. A much better service for international shipments. read more

One star. This place is EXPENSIVE!!! I needed to scan 10 documents for my professor, the clerk was nice and attempted to show me how to use their machine, he clearly didn't know how to use it very well. I still give him credit, he tried. When I got to the register the guy says "Ok, it'll be $20.00 even." .....Are you serious? I didn't even have anything printed, I had my scanned documents e-mailed straight to me! There is no way I can justify a $2.00 per sheet charge to scan something when it probably cost them 2 cents for the electricity they used. Even though this is across the street from my apartment I won't be going back.
