I made a run last week to Baycopy in San Francisco to pick up a few posters for an upcoming family event. Staff were helpful in assisting with the correct color shades and size options available while preventing photo pixelation. Baycopy SF has always been a convenient location to drop off UPS packages and the personnel have always been helpful in this regard. Today I stopped by to make just over 200 black and white photocopies of a single page flyer. Baycopy SF's quote was almost $95 or right around 45 cents each. Say, what? Needless to say, I didn't get my flyer copied there. Instead, I went home, uploaded the same flyer in electronic format to San Francisco Public Library's print portal, drove a few blocks to the Bayview library branch, and minutes later walked out with the same job for $19 or just 10 cents per page. (Actually, it was $21, but library cardholders get $2 of free printing/copying per day.) Let me repeat that for those who weren't paying attention: I could have paid almost $95 at Baycopy SF, but instead paid only $19 at SFPL. $95 or $19. A no brainer. Sorry Baycopy SF, I really wanted to use you, because you are a locally owned business, and I appreciate that you are a shipping drop-off location, which is pure gold. But I just can't justify paying prices almost 5 times higher than I can get just down the street. If I have a more complicated print/copy job, I'll check in with you again, but for simple print/copy jobs, my heart now lies with SFPL. read more

I've been to baycopy 3 times so far once for personal printing needs and 2 times for bigger commercial requests (shipping as well as printing many menus for restaurant) and every time I was greeted with such tailored service they asked me exactly how I wanted them and exceeded expectations, and did it with a smile. The customer service was great and I received a quick response via email and quick turnaround (less than 1 hour) for my printing needs. The pricing however is very high compared to Office Depot / UPS / FedEx etc. In my opinion, the cost was unreasonable high. First of all, charging $0.99 per page is a ridiculous price, but I was prepared to swallow the costs in hope of supporting a black business. From walk-in, being rudely greeted by the elderly man working there, to having my service refused because he GREEDILY printed 18 pages of a document without first asking me how many of the sheets I needed. UPS drops off packages here and it's the worse to pickup since new owners. The UPS emails say bring your identification but when you do the clerk refuses to even look at your ID and says he is the owner. I held up an email with tracking number and ID and the clerk still refused to even check for my package and ultimately called the police on me for attempting to give him my ID. He claimed he felt threatened. I never got my package. The clerk literally refused to read my ID and tracking information and give it to me. Do not shop here. Do not have your package sent here. Came into pick up a package that UPS dropped off here. I signed for my package and then was asked to leave the store. I was opening the package to make sure the items weren't damaged. The owner then rudely me that I had to take the box with me instead of offering to dispose of it. I walked 5 steps outside and tossed it another dumpster. I have been patronizing Bay copy Plus since I was in high school so it has been at least 20 years. I have never done anything more than make copies or use their computers. However recently I printed out 11x17 glossy posters and 3x8 foot banner for my kids spelling bee and both jobs were on time great quality with excellent customer service. Stay away from this place. I had a UPS package dropped off at this location and he wouldn't release it to me because my Washington driver's license didn't match the address on the package. I have picked up packages from many other ups locations and never have I been refused for this reason. Even at ups shipping they let me take it. This is not a good person. I have to give a 5 star for a few reasons. 1st: a black owned business in bayview is becoming a rare thing with gentrification. 2nd: running a print shop is expensive. 3rd: i was that person bringing in my energetic kid a drink, food...all the things that people do in a hurry and forget are inappropriate in a small shop with electronic (hello, reflection). 4th: It's not the shop owners job to hold your hand and teach you how to print something. 5th: If you can take the time and listen, he will help you and make it easier for you next time. I know the prices are higher then the mission, but it's that important to me to support a local black owned print shop in bayview. You don't have to personally get along with everyone either. And try to have his perspective, having to do this all day, every day. I don't go here when I can't afford it, but insulting a business in a struggling neighborhood because you want your hand held, just means maybe you're overwhelmed. Name one print shop in san francisco that is fun? Kinko's is a nightmare! You can't park in the mission anymore... and copy central (although i've had some good work done there) is way more expensive and good luck parking downtown. Dishonest service and business. There's no visible posting of prices. He knowingly didn't disclose upfront his costs that would have changed my decision making. Before I could ask questions, he took my stack of papers and started to scan them, I asked about paying while they were scanning and he said let's make sure it successfully emails first. 2 minutes later, email sent, the cost was almost $50. I thought he was kidding. He said well you have the email now so you have to pay. He knew I could have mailed this for far less. I feel ripped off. What a dishonest business!!! Toooo bad. Had I known the cost of the service up front, which was NOT explained to me prior to the transaction, I would have looked at other options to send these documents.
