Don't come before Christmas

Machines worked as I needed. I was happy about that. Quality was as I expected. I like this location.

Save the date invites sent out and ruined by this tacky love bird stamp.

I sent out my save the dates and purchased pretty dahlia stamps for each envelope. This post office then put this tacky "lovebird" black ink stamp on top- see picture. Please don't ruin people's wedding invitations.

December 8, 2025 I received a small package which was placed in my mailbox. PROBLEM: the package is approximately the same dimensions of the mailbox, making it extremely difficult to pull out unless I cut the damn box (package) at the mailbox. I had to literally cut the box open while at the mailbox in order to pull out this package My question to USPS is why are they hiring bunch of retards? For being this stupid!

I love that I'm writing a 5 star review for the U.S. Postal service. I couldn't believe that every possible station was actually manned and the customer service was so polite, thoughtful and just pleasant! I had filled a flat rate box with goodies to ship off to Alaska. I addressed it sealed it and was in line in no time. When I got to the cashier, she immediately informs me that I was not, In fact, using a flat rate box but one that looked like the ones I usually use and will cost close to $40.00 instead of the regular $18.00 that I'm accustomed to. Whew! She directed me to the proper box and said just come to the front of the line when you're ready! I was just so pleased that my P.O. Whoops turned into a lovely opportunity for the U.S. Postal service to exhibit stellar customer service. I left with a smile on my face rather than frustration. Good job U.S.Postal Service!

TLDR since I tend to get carried away with words: absolutely amazing customer service from Lea and the other clerks too, as well as a line that went faster than expected. Well, believe it or not, I still have eight First-Class "Liberty' stamps from 2006. Yes...an entire 18 years old!! That shows you how often I mail things via snail mail. I probably have more stashed away someplace, but I digress. These stamps are not Forever Stamps though, just regular stamps with a set value, like stamps used be. I had to look up the value, as they were unmarked. They were $0.39, and today, in 2023, a First-Class postage stamp costs $0.66. How times have changed! So, I am not the type of person who lets things go to waste. I had to do the math: $0.66 today minus $0.39 equals $0.27. So, I needed eight times $0.27. But the price is set to go up in 2024 by a whole whopping two cents to $0.68, and I only have plans to mail two letters before the new year. So I actually needed $0.12 more to cover the remaining six First-Class stamps I will have left. Anyway, I am not going to bore you with math. But I needed to make a trip to the post office to buy stamps. I normally could go to a place like Office Depot to buy a book and save myself the long wait in line. But since I needed specific denominations of stamps, I couldn't go there or to a self-service machine. I usually have had to wait at most post offices, unless I came really early in the morning. So, I got prepared to wait, but I figure I would just get it done, and I would be set for a year, at least. I headed to the post office on McCabe Drive in south Reno, which is called "Steamboat". Sure enough, there were about seven people ahead of me, with more lining up behind me. Last time I came here, I walked out since the line was so long, but I figured I could take some pics and check in to Yelp while waiting. Much to my delight, the line went fast, especially after some people realized there was a separate door for people who just needed to pick up packages. There were three clerks, then two, then three again working at the counter. My wait was only four or five minutes or so. When I go to the counter, I explained what I needed. The clerk, Lea, was **FABULOUS**. I had planned to get 10 $0.20 stamps, 10 $0.05 stamps, and 36 $0.01 stamps. Lo and behold, I found out she had dominations from $.01 to $.05 or more, $.10, $.12, $.24, and much more. I would have normally recalculated, but there was line, so I just went with my original plan, except they didn't make $0.20 stamps, so I just got 20 $0.10 stamps instead. She knew all the values by heart, and she quickly got what I needed. She even remembered my complicated order without having to re-ask me what I needed. I was amazed by her memory. She counted everything out and had me going quickly. She also apologized for the wait (as did the two other clerks with their customers). She made my day! But then when I got to me car, I counted the stamps, just to be sure, and I was missing a $0.01 stamp. I went back in, re-waited in line, and talked to Lea She said she has put a single $0.01 stamp in my envelope to make it 36, but no biggie, she just went back and gave me a free $0.05 stamp. I apologized, then furiously looked all over the ground as I walked out to see if I had dropped a stamp. Sure enough outside on the pavement, I found a single $0.01 stamp! I went back in, waited in line gain, and showed Lea what I had found, apologizing profusely. I tried to give the free $0.05 stamp back to her, but she refused. I was floored by her customer service! In the end, I didn't mind waiting in the line twice more since it was my fault, and Lea was so knowledgeable, well-trained, courteous and professional! I left very happy, as I had such a delightful experience. Lea gave me a survey with my receipt to do. Now normally I don't do these, but she went out of her way to be helpful and was so good at what she does that I am going to fill it out after this review. Looking around, the post office has come a long way from how they used to be in the 80's and 90's and even the 2000 oughts. They had plenty of packaging, holiday packaging, and gift cards for sale. There was a self-service mailing machine, which many customers used, as well as two huge bins for people with pre-labeled boxes to just drop off. There was also that door you could go to if you just had a package to pick up, as well as a passport office (new applications only though, not renewals). There were also tons of post office boxes to rent, as well as a selection of larger boxes by the windows, presumable if your post office box could not fit a package? There was no Wi-Fi, but you really didn't need it. There was also a large parking lot with sufficient parking and a drive through mailboxes too. I will come back here if I need to in the future, as the location is convenient to me, close to retail stores, the library, grocery stores, medical offices, and the freeway.

Specifically for the Post Office on McCabe in Reno. Here's an irony for you. The McCabe Post Office grounds are a mess. Weeds everywhere, grass unmown, etc. You would think a US Government facility would be better kept. Now for the irony. We received a postcard in our gated community mail box that the Post Office has chosen this time of year to encourage postal patrons to spruce up mailboxes to help make the community more attractive. Now that is the pot calling the kettle black! It seems to me that the City of Reno code enforcement department should call out the Post Office for lack of care of their grounds. I'd like to personally complain, but I don't know where to direct these issues to be heard. The McCabe PO is the one we use because it's convenient. Most of the personnel there are friendly and helpful. One clerk there seems to always have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. That PO location doesn't have the best customer service I've experienced in Reno, but it is acceptable. My experience is that delivery times of mail going across the country have lengthened. Nearly double recently. I know the post office has a HUGE responsibility. I hate to see quality slip, and it has, in our postal service. It seems to be the way of the world and our government agencies are leading the way. My one star rating is for the appearance of the McCabe Post Office property. I'd say personnel would earn a three to four star rating. The appearance is what motivated this review so that's the rating I'm giving.

Phone always rings busy. No one ever answers the phone. Why even have a number? What a waste.
