Nooooo! It is a funny this having a local "Main Post Office." I was born in Los Angeles, grew up with post office only mail service in Incline Village (no local mail routes), and went to college and high school in San Diego. So, I have seen having to rely on a post office for ALL mail services, long lines on the last tax night, supersized mail hubs, and everything in between. Mail and many postal services have taken a passenger/back seat to e-mail, on-line bill pay & billing, and services like FedEx and UPS with their own local stores. The USPS it is still an important part of getting mail, ballots, bills, magazines, ads, benefits and packages. Trusted locals for sorting and post marking is still needed for aging Americans along with the sense security that it provides. Locally the USPS carriers are very competent at home delivery. The post offices are clean, productive and mostly friendly. Quite a bit of the speed, local knowledge, and professionalism goes away if "Operations" are moved to Sacramento or beyond. There is a reason our Amtrac office is not even a though on most peoples mind in Reno. We are the forgotten train stop between actual Train Stations between Sacramento and Denver. Not to mention that there are 100's of great paying local jobs that disappear when they "streamline" operations. I understand the business model needs to change to keep the service alive but maybe we could cut back in areas of the country that haven't doubled in population every 10 years. read more

**One of the most unresponsive and indifferent USPS locations I've ever dealt with.** This Reno USPS branch has shown a blatant disregard for its customers and basic responsibilities. Despite having a mail hold in place, they continued to deliver mail while we were out of town, leaving our mailbox overflowing and creating a significant security risk. We even left clear signs inside our mailbox about the mail hold, but they ignored them and crammed mail right past the notice. Adding to the frustration, our Change of Address (COA) has been handled just as poorly. We've used USPS forwarding services in the past without issue, but this location has turned a simple process into an expensive, exhausting ordeal. The staff is unhelpful and, frankly, irreverent. Communication is nonexistent, and any effort to resolve issues is met with complete apathy. Customer service and professionalism are clearly not priorities here. If you value your time, money, and sanity, avoid this location at all costs. Don't get me wrong, all USPS locations are pretty bad but their incompetence and blatant disregard for basic mail-handling standards at this location are really next level. I'll admit: I don't often find myself aligning with the Trump administration, but if there's one area of overlap, it's the tiny sliver of my views that says privatizing USPS might not be such a bad idea. This post office has been busy at almost every time of day that I've visited, but I've never spent more than a half hour waiting. There are 5 windows for postal workers to occupy and I've seen 3 always staffed, and one sometimes staffed, and the 5th one never staffed. The staff working have been efficient, but kind. They do their best to help. I've only used this location for parcel drop off/mailing. So I can't speak to the passport section or the use of the automated machines or PO Box systems. I like this location because it's centrally located and super easy to stop in at while running errands around town. read more

Postal employees very pleasant and helpful yet very professional. Had a problem with missing mail at my apartment location and Vassar post office worked with me found the mail after solving the problem. I would have givven no star if could especialy with the crummy service they lost my wifes paycheck when our carrier up and quit no mail delivery that day been over a month now and still no check then we mailed out a pakage from an auction we held two weeks now and client still have not recieved now we have bad reputation enough to put us out of business had to refund everryone what gives worst postal buisiness ive ever delt with and to think the motto was nor rain nor sleet nor snow? I just moved to reno , had to pay 45.00 for a Mail box key they told us it will be two days after going back to the post office on the third day still no key , the next rude lady said it will be 5 days , went back again on the 6 day , still no key the older short Asian women was so rude she said you don't have to come back and wait for the call when lock is change , I had to go on a business trip I got a call finally on the 11 day , this post office is a mess if the front women don't want to help change jobs stop being rude . read more

Today at 12:15 I went to the Vassar Post Office, I had a simple question about making an appointment online. The person behind the counter was in her late 50's to early 60's, of Asian decent with a short a-line haircut, I didn't see her name ( and to those of you who think I'm racist, your completely wrong), and the rudest customer service person I've ever encounter in 53 years. She asked if I had an appointment, I said no, but I just had a quick question, she beyond being rude completely cut my off 3 times, all she said was "I can't help you. The way this person spoke was mean, harsh and 100% unnecessary. I turned and walked out absolutely pissed off. I should've asked for a manager, but I was so angry. She had no right being so rude. To the managers at this branch I sure hope you see this and address this employee, I'm sure you know who I'm writing about. read more

Where to begin, where to begin. I'd like to say that there were at least one or two redeeming qualities about this place, but they truly are the worst post office I've ever dealt with. The phone is never answered, the employees are never smiling, and my mail never is never easy to obtain. I don't believe ANYONE would consider personal mail to be anything less than incredibly important. This is why it is so frustrating to deal with this post office and those who work there. My understanding is that government workers are dealt a blessed hand; pension programs, insurance options, guaranteed retirement. You'd expect the atmosphere to be much more gratuitous. I'm constantly met with standoffish employees who act inconvenienced to help me with even the simplest of tasks (the tasks that they're paid to do), and when they do take care of these tasks, the jobs are inaccurately fulfilled and often time-consuming. When it's my bills on the line it's hard to trust these folks, and they all seem quite under qualified to be dealing with such intrinsic documents. Hopefully a this review is seen by a supervisor or someone with some kind of influence, who can help bring this post office up to speed with the times. Mailing and shipping doesn't have to be hard, but it does need to be taken care of by people who are motivated and passionate in their work, and if the benefits of a government job can't get these folks to smile, I'm not sure what can. New staff and new training protocol seem like a no brainer to me at this point. read more

Unfriendly staffs who seem like hate their jobs and only one pen on the table for customer to use. A person without a name tag (two others had) helped me. I was sending a package internationally. She didn't explain the options like they normally do at other locations. When I asked her how long it will take she said she doesn't know. I asked if there were other options which I can track the package on line, she said NO. Seriously? I had done it many times. I realized that the person didn't know what she was doing. Instead of wasting more time asking, I went back in line and got helped from another lady. The second lady answered all my questions. She was helpful and professional. Please! On March 2nd I was supposed to have a parcel from India delivered that required a signature. The ticket says that they were sorry that they missed us (there is always someone home) and the parcel could be picked up at the Vassar St. facility after the 4th of March. We drove down there, spent nearly 45 minutes there while they looked high and low and still no parcel. This parcel contained gem stones from India and we have been charged for them and still no gems. We are out the money and still have nothing for the money we spent and the dealer in India just shrugs his shoulders and he has his money while we are empty handed. It had arrived here and then was lost due to ineptitude and shoddy handling on the part of the U.S. Postal service. Probably a good idea to train the people running the kiosk to help the line go faster you might want to train them how to run the scanner. Scanner locked up and the lady had no clue of how to reset it. Still had to stand in the line for 15- 20 minutes. Supervisor came out to help the line move faster 'jerk he scanned my package and dropped it from 5 feet up and it had a fragile sticker on it and I'm like "hey be careful it's breakable" and he's like "do you want to buy insurance"? read more

Went there to renew my passport. Angry female worker told me I could not use my "Official Government" passport to obtain a civilian passport. I contacted the state department and they told me that she was wrong and to mail it to them and it was no problem. What do you expect from the post office!!!! read more

I have had several problems with the Reno Vassar post office. (1) On one occasion, I was gone for almost a month and I submitted a hold mail request, but I arrived home to find all of my mail in my mailbox (it was supposed to be delivered the next day). I called the Vassar station to find out what happened and left a message. The guy who called me back was short and rude and unhelpful. (2) On another occasion, I went out of town for about 2 weeks and I put in a hold mail request. This time I said I wanted to pick up the mail at the station. When I returned and went to the station, they said I had no mail. Really? No mail was sent to me for 2 whole weeks? I don't think so. They just lost it. (3) I called the USPS 800 number to check on the status of a package that had been sent to me and the tracking information said it was delivered, but I never got it. The representative said they would forward my request to the Vassar station and someone from there would look into it and call me within 2-3 business days. They never called me. I called the 800 number again and they put in another request. The Vassar station never called me. I called the 800 number a 3rd time and they said that someone from the Vassar station had looked up the GPS information to see where my package was delivered and found that it had been misdelivered by 4 blocks. The rep from the 800 number told me that someone from the Vassar station should have called me to tell me that and give me my options to take action. The rep then gave me the number of the Nevada district office to call since the Vassar station wasn't calling me. I called the district office and they gave me the number of the person at the Vassar station who handled my case as well as the number for the station. I called both of those numbers. They both rang for a long time and then disconnected. I called the district office again and they gave me some other options. Then, by the time I actually got someone who could help me, the tracking information on my package had expired, so they couldn't even find out if I had insurance or not... and I was informed that the USPS does not reimburse people even when it was their fault that the package didn't arrive (i.e. it was misdelivered by 4 blocks). So, basically my resolution is that I will never get my package (fortunately it wasn't terribly expensive) and I wasted hours of time on the phone with the 800 number, the district office, and trying to get in touch with the Vassar station. So awesome. (4) I have also experienced the rudeness that other reviewers have experienced in person at this station. Most of the employees behind the counter look like they hate their life and would rather do anything else that help you. In summary: If I could have my mail go through a different Reno post office, I would. I did get a call from a new employee there after the issue with my lost package and he said that they are having staff change over and are trying to resolve some of the problems at that station. I REALLY hope they do. That new employee was really nice and understanding and literally admitted that the post office had failed me. I hope they get more nice, and competent, people in there. read more

I got a certified letter that the mail lady didn't get out of the truck to give me I know because I was home I went to the post office on vassar to get it myself and then I get told they lost it it will be sent back tomorrow and I have no clue how when they don't know what happened to it no wonder the mail service is worried they not doing their job down there except Michael and Jessica they work hard ( my old mail carrier and his girlfriend) read more

Have been trying since February 2018 to get two mailboxes moved closer to the houses they serve as mail has been being stolen. Went down to Vassar post office to get approval from the supervisor. Clerks went back 4 to 5 times letting the supervisor know I was waiting out front. After half an hour, still no supervisor shows up! Given phone number to call. No one would answer the phones...and no voice mail available. Finally had to write a letter to the supervisor and hand deliver it at Vassar. Finally on May 2, 2018, 9:50 a.m. I receive a call from a supervisor and am given permission to move the boxes. On May 26, 2018, I receive a call from one tenant; she hasn't gotten her mail for two weeks. She goes to Vassar and is told the boxes have to be moved back to the original place. Also during these two weeks, a legal document which was sent certified, return receipt has been lost. Tenant makes a second trip to Vassar that same morning and is told everything is now okay. (??) Recommend the management of this branch be looked into. read more

THE WORST POST OFFICE EMPLOYEES!!!! I am renewing my passport and had 2 questions. I waited patiently for the passport person to finish, just to get clarification before I mailed in my application. As I was waiting, the counter clerk on the other side of the room started saying ma'am, about the 3rd or 4th ma'am I turned around and asked if she was referring to me. All she said was do you have a passport appt. I said no I just had 2 questions. She said I had to make an appt on the website, didnt even ask what my questions were, which by the way was confirming I could pay with personal check and if I had to actually staple the picture to the app, not hard questions. She wouldnt listen to me. When I walked over to her to explain this, all she did was toss a priority envlope at me, and said cash or check. I was like no, I just had 2 questions about my renewal, I drove an hour to get here, you cant help me? She then said they do not answer any questions about renewals and they do not accept the applications, that i need to put all my paperwork in an envelope and mail it in. When I tried to talk to her she kept repeating that same thing. I left very upset, angry and she was not helpful at all. I ended up talking to a third party that does renewals and they anwsered my questions in 60 seconds. If they hate their job so much, then they should quit, there are plenty of people that could do a better job then the employees they have at this office. UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! Shame on this post office for allowing people to treat customers this way. If I could give 0 stars I would have read more
