never thought i'd leave a yelp review for a post office but i felt the need to say this is the best one i've ever had out out of anywhere i've ever lived. everyone i've ever interacted with (mail carriers, in the post office itself, on the phone, etc.) have been a total joy. john our mail carrier is just amazing- so kind, generous, & i always look forward to seeing him. and jennifer at the post office is so incredibly helpful (when i had a mail hold and a package had been scanned but not delivered (FYI i now know that it'll be scanned even with a mail hold on & delivered later), she helped me track it down and got in touch with john who even got it & delivered it that same day after the normal delivery. the team here really does seem to care & always seems to go above and beyond. will really miss them when i move out of pacific grove! read more

What is wrong with this place??? They did not process my change of address for weeks until I went in person so weeks of mail was returned to sender or destroyed. The delivery workers drop mail in the gutter! I have to fish out my mail in the street because it somehow does not all get placed into my standard mailbox. I would expect better service and competency. Very frustrated. read more

I was having some trouble with my mail delivery. Never knew when the postman was coming. Also not getting all my mail. We have a new postman and he is doing great. My mail is delivered by 1:00 and I think I am getting all of it. read more

Safe to the area, can be challenging to park but it's not impossible. Good customer service 10 days before Christmas. Very friendly customer service. It's an old post office you feel your walking through history. The area is full of restaurants for brunch breakfast, etc. read more

What a great post office. I have to admit, I drove 60 miles from Cupertino just to come to this post office. The folks at this Pacific Grove post office are super friendly and very helpful. Unlike Cupertino which harbor rude, indignant, unhelpful, righteous jerks. read more

My husband dropped off about 30 stamped letters here. Half or so that required handling as they were non machineable due to thickness or items inside the envelope that couldn't be crushed, but still fell within the parameters of stamped mail. Every envelope marked NON MACHINEABLE. This post office ran every single one through the machine, ruined many of the items inside, so I have to issue refunds totaling about $120. And they ruined the envelopes and wasted about $20 in stamps. I am beyond boggled at the good reviews here. My husband dropped these near work. I usually drop them in Salinas. Been doing it for a YEAR. Not ONCE have I EVER had one come back. Not once. The one (and ONLY) time I go here I'm out almost $150. You can see in my pic the notes say stamps were defaced. They were taped on with transparent tape. I literally get envelopes like that from people and business EVERY SINGLE DAY. This was pure laziness or incompetence from whoever was at the counter either not wanting to or not knowing how to print the stamp and put it on the outside of the damn envelope. Never again. And I've also filed a complaint online. I suggest finding another location. read more

The post office and postal service do some things well. They're pretty good at delivering envelopes, and at least in this part of the country, they arrive in a reasonable amount of time. Anything bigger than a small envelope, you're playing Russian roulette. Some recent examples: I take a small box to the post office. It's got about $20 worth of candy in it. I'm told I can spend a fortune in postage, or, behind Door #2, take 10 minutes to repackage it in one of of the official USPS boxes with slightly different dimensions. Sorry, but in Covid times, I try to limit how I spend in airless indoor places around other people. Next, I'm expecting a package. I get an online notice that they attempted to deliver and failed, saying I could pick it up at the post office (see photos). a) They never knocked on my door and b) when I got to the post office, they told me they would attempt to deliver it again the next day. Today, I find that they've shoved a book so tightly into my mailbox that I had to damage it in order to remove it. I'm tired of this crap! I empathize with individual carriers and employees. They work hard, they're under a lot of stress and strain due to increases in people shipping as a result of the pandemic and recent holidays. But this kind of service needs to be improved. read more

best post office in the area! its small and the hours are more limited than others in our area. The location is very clean and maintained well. But more often than not, I get excellent customer service from the employees at the counter. They greet. They are polite and helpful. They seem to be efficient and Proficient ! at their jobs :D Folks coming and going from this PG Post Office are also likely to be very friendly. I have held the doors open for others and have had the doors held open for mii. The other day, I was dreading going down there. It was Dec.23rd and an etsy item of mine *had to be delivered* to my customer. I was shocked when I walked into the Post Office. 3 employees ~ 2 people being helped, another 2 writing out the Delivery info before getting into line meant I got to walk Right Up to the third employee! No wait two days before Christmas!?! Thank You small town Post Office! This is why I go to PG over Monterey even though Monterey is slightly closer to my home. Good place, good service. Usually less crowded than the downtown Monterey office, but because there are usually only two clerks (three if you're lucky), things really slow down when a crowd gathers. Open Saturdays, but only until noon (I think). The drive-past mailboxes in the island in the middle of the street are mega-convenient. But when it comes down to it, this post office isn't worth driving out of your way for. Is there such a beast? read more

The people who work the lobby at the Pacific Grove post office are fantastic and top notch. They deserve all five stars. However the letter carriers have slowly degraded over time. My letter carrier doesn't show up until after dark. Sometimes the mail doesn't get delivered at all, thus requiring a re-delivery the next morning. I'm not sure if this is a postmaster issue (i.e. being cheap and over extending the carriers) or if my letter carrier has truly become flakey. My suspicion is a little of both. Then most recently a package wasn't even delivered. There was no written notice left in my mailbox. I had to go online to informed delivery to track down what happened, and then request re delivery of a small package that should have been delivered in my mailbox on the first try. The letter carrier marked it "unsecure location" even though I have a mailbox, and the value of the item was less than $5. So, unfortunately the Pacific Grove post office has fallen behind the curve. If you have important mail, best to get your bills online, checks direct deposited, and use FedEx or UPS for packages. if you do order low value items, be ready to go pick them up, even though the letter carriers don't want to leave them in the mailbox. read more

Great level of service. Wonderful staff. Perfect location. So much a part of our community in Pacific Grove. The building dates from the 1930's with a New Deal mural and the butterfly kids sculpture out front. Easy access. Parking not too bad. Also, a rear entrance to drop off mail and check your PO box. read more

Mailed two priority parcels on 3/31/2021 at 3:38pm. Tracking numbers: 9505-5116-3826-1090-4495-87 and 9505-5116-3826-1090-4495-94. One to Tennessee, the other to California. Both disappeared without a trace! Zip. Zero. Nada. What happened? Why no tracking information? Where are my parcels? No response to date from Postmaster. No response from Consumer Affairs in Oakland. I really love older post offices. Especially the ones from The Deco era that often have beautiful murals and more murals. This post office is relatively small and doesn't have a very large Lobby but does have one beautiful mural of the coast of Monterey and children at the beach. Who knows when it was put in, but it was probably put in at some point after the construction. The moldings around the doors and the moldings along the walls indicate an Era of Good craftsmanship in carpentry and the entry into the postmaster's office what a beautiful door. I can't speak to the Post Office boxes or the postal counter or their service at selling stamps or packaging or anything else, it looks just like a regular post office to me but I am always happy to say something about looking at the interior's finding where those murals are and finding where a bit of history is coming out to greet us. I stopped into the PO to pick up my "vacation hold "mail. Nothing was found.. Having no transportation today I called in to check on where my mail might be. I was told it was missed when I was there yesterday. My mail was indeed there at the PO. I was told it could be delivered to me today, (since I had no transportation today). Jennifer said she would do it herself if needed, since it was a PO error. This is impressive. PO workers continue on with their high level of service and responsibility, despite Dejoy, and all the PO budget cuts. Thank you Jennifer. read more

I now know why the postal service in the United States is declining and the PG branch is no exception to that growing fad. Living next to the ocean and Lover's Point can only mean one thing, there is always a car or truck parked in front of my house. This is the fourth time this month that I have had my mail held for multiple days because of some tourist parked in front of my mailbox. Honesty, how hard is it for the mail carrier to get out of their vehicle and put the mail in my box? Some people don't have mail boxes next to the road so don't go off and tell me that they don't get out of their trucks to put the mail in the boxes. Step up your game PG mail carriers and stop holding my bills and new credit cards because some tourist parked in front of my house. read more

They SERIOUSLY go out of their way to provide good service. I can't tell you how many times they have managed to find me, in spite of my grand kids disastrous attempts at addressing an envelope (missing information, incorrect information, etc). They also deliver things the kids send me without proper postage, and let me make up the difference instead of sending it back. (Our carrier, Linda, is the best!) Everyone behind the counter is always pleasant and helpful, as well. I love our little post office because of the people working there! read more

Horrible customer service. I've been in a handful of times this month, and I have three young children I bring along. The people are so rude, never making eye contact, saying hello and you can forget about getting a smile out of these people! I obviously have my handsful, but I guess helping peel a label is too much work, (please step aside mam) really!? Miserable people working here. The people in line are a lot friendlier than the people behind the desk. I may trek all the way to Carmel next time. That's pretty sad because I live a few blocks from the PG post office. I have mixed feelings about this post office. I've had a PO box here for years and always loved the drive to it even though I live in Monterey, it's a good excuse to drive along the coast to get my mail, but recently I've had issues with my mail. Like some of it, some very important things have gone missing like bank statements, a debit card & pin number. I even had a birthday card from my grandmother that she put cash in, it was open and the cash was gone. Granted it could have happened anywhere along the line, but it just seems like too much of a coincidence. I won't be renewing my PO box there. Sad. It's my preferred place for sending packages. Lines are shorter than the Monterey PO and everyone is so friendly. Beautiful location. read more

I'll take this post office over the one on Hartnell in Monterey any day. First of all, the staff here is actually friendly and seem competent at doing their jobs. Secondly, the lines are usually much shorter. Win win all around! read more

Went to get passport applications done and submitted. Mimi was great, saw us right on time, super helpful and friendly.

The worst postal service I have ever used. Two separate occasions for incoming mail. Fist sent priority should have arrived in two days. Well it did and went to the wrong address. It was then returned and sat on a shelve for a week before sent out again never to have been delivered.Since all mail is tracked now by GPS they actually saw were it was delivered the second time which was a block away and never questioned it and said we needed to file a claim. Second time the package was again sent priority mail on the 15th of Sept, received today Oct 11th. The box has been torn open resealed and torn open again with writing on it stating wrong address. CHANGE OF PLANS - BEYOND DISAPPOINTED!!!!!! To say the post office is lazy is the understatement of a lifetime. I have talked to management, they gave me some dumb excuse about needing a red flag. So I add the red flag and our lady still didn't pick it up!!! She gave me some excuse about not needing to pick it up unless she drops anything off, funny how no matter who you talk to they have some dumb moronic excuse. My mail gets weathered sitting out all afternoon,these are bills, birthday cards and other important items!! DO NOT USE USPS!!! USE FEDEX OR UPS, our postal system is a joke!!!! I have such mixed feelings about this post office. I will start with the bad because it unfortunately vastly out weights the good. Our mail lady very very often does not pick up our mail. I personally would love a job where I only had to do it 75% of the time. I often have to chase after them to give them my mail or drive to the post office to drop it off. When I asked her about it, she said she is only required to pick it up if there is mail to drop off and will grab the outgoing mail only if she notices it. She conveniently seems to not see it every time. Plus, theoretically my mail could sit there for a week (plus or minus) and never get picked up, this is ludicrous! I complained to the manager and he took zero accountability. I don't understand why they prioritize incoming mail over outgoing, both are equally important. In an industry that is diminishing, you would think they would attempt to give better service. Mail is time sensitive, we trust them to do their job and deliver it in a timely fashion (bills, birthday cards, etc). It really makes one reconsider an email, ups, FedEx, etc. On good note, when I went into the post office they were great. There was a line and I still got out within 5-10 minutes so that deserves an honorable mention. read more

Over all this is one of the "better" US Post Office. I go at least a few times a month and usually wait no more than a few minutes in line. This morning the man in front of me was mailing a large package. Instead of taking the box to the back and then helping me, the employee helped me first and then she took the box to the back.
