Since the pandemic, and the minimal return of employees in the 505 building itself, the Post Office has left this location severely understaffed with only one worker. He's a wonderfully, pleasant person, who has to deal with the biz load all by himself, so don't take any delays out on him. If you hit the timing right, almost nobody is here. If you hit it wrong, or during the holidays, there will be a line and the wait depends on the outgoing load each person drops on him. Just be patient. Only open a few hours a day 11 to 4 when I was there , and only one clerk during lunch time visit at 12:45 which I would expect to be their busiest time as the location is next to the food court. Clerk was helping customer in front of me with his parcel - literally closing the box and sealing it for him which is helpful or frustrating depending on your perspective. All I needed was 2 stamps so having to stand and wait to watch him packing up the box was a bit frustrating, but I'm betting the customer receiving the help was very appreciative don't be in a rush for sure read more

This is the WORST post office. It's downstairs in my office building, but it's honestly faster for me to walk down the street to the one at the Macy's shopping center. There is only ever one guy working. He's nice enough, but the line builds up fast. Expect a long wait at any given time, even just to buy stamps. Speaking of stamps, no automated postage machine like every other post office has. You have to wait in line, no matter what. No after-hours drop box or mail slot. None. You can only drop letters office during the super narrow windows they are open. They're always changing their hours and posting the new ones on homemade signs on the door, and it seems that they get to be shorter and shorter. I lose track, but I think the current hours are 10-3 or something like that. Did I also mention that it's a dreary, depressing dungeon with no cell signal while you wait in that line, dilapidated fixtures, and horrible, depressing lighting? read more

I spent 9 dollars on parking. I parked farther away than I meant to , due to not wanting to have to go up 2 more blocks and back around due to the one way streets,l. I had to walk up and around the block twice because I got confused and turned around, only to have to go back. Finally arrived at 3:52 pm. As I was walking in, a woman met me at the door and said, "we're closed ." After asking if I was just going to a mailbox, she said , again, "we're closed--we close at 4." I pulled out my phone to check--I didn't think I had be walking that long. It was 3:52 pm. I showed her snd said, "but it's not 4.." She said, "she's processing the last customer, we're closed. You can go to the post office on 18~~ 7th street." I needed a money order I had to send off today, so I had no choice, but I missed the exact address. Another person came in, she was telling him the same thing, but he had a couple questions. I waited patiently until he finished, then asked for the address again so I could put it in my phone. She repeated it loudly and slowly, and with an attitude like I was not too bright. She had rattled it off unexpectedly before so she knew I didn't write it down the first time, but she acted like she was irritated and I wasn't too bright because I didn't remember. Anyway, I went to the other post office, got free parking, and was the first in line. I got called within 1 minute. I told the person I needed a 100 money order. She asked if it was exactly 100 and I said yes. She told me it would be 101.__. She asked if I wanted an envelope, I said yes. I put in my debit card, she gave me my receipt with the money order and an envelope. Took less than 2 minutes. I hate downtown and rarely come here, but will definitely go to the other post office if I'm ever in the area and have need of a post office. read more

Worst post office ever. The workers are completely miserable and irritable people. Just completely fucking rude. Every time I mail a package they think I know the international policy and procedures (which the US Post Office is constantly changing) and give major 'tude with their hands on their hips, etc because I don't come up to their podium with all the right paperwork (which is THEIR JOB anyway). I've been going to this post office for the last 8 or so years. For a time, I used to be really into mail art (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_art), Postcard X, Nervousness.org, eBay, art swaps, pen pals and the like. I was at the post office at least once a week if not more. I used to really dislike one of the employees who would make you rewrite addresses because either it'd be "too high" or she didn't like the oddly sized mail art pieces I was sending. You know what? You can send anything through the mail if there's postage on it. These days, they like you to wrap things in paper or put them in boxes but I've received things that were the actual object. I've seen pictures of toast, spoons and other altered art pieces that have gone through the mail. I bet she would have had a fit if I came in with a decorated dead animal to mail. In any case, she moved to the Macy's Plaza post office and I've been having a very pleasant time at this post office ever since. Most of the workers know me and are very pleasant. I not as arty as I only come in once every 6 weeks to buy stamps for bills (no, I don't like paying bills online). I still appreciate the art of letter writing and I like to buy all the cool new stamps. No Forever stamps for me because I want those new Simpsons stamps! The best time to go is right before the lunch rush or right after. But even during lunch time, I've never waited more than 10 minutes. Never go after 3:30. That's when all the businesses bring in all their mail and packages. This post office also features passport services but it takes a while. Their stamp machine is perpetually out of service. The employees have taken great pains to try to make things nice by adding plants to their stations or sometimes they have the stuffed animals that go along with the stamps out. It is disconcerting there's a security camera trained behind every sales station. I counted at least 10 cameras last time though there's usually only 2 or 3 stations open at a time. Still, I suppose this post office is better than the one by USC that I used to frequent. That one had sales stations behind bullet-proof glass! read more

Worst of the worst. I've never been to such a cold and macabre post office. Maybe it's the fact that the employees are working in a windowless, subterranean box. That lack of natural sunlight must be sucking the life right out of these people, because the service equates to what you would expect to find if it were run by zombies. I really don't know what it is. There was a line of about 15 people waiting and 1 clerk with her window open, while 2 other employees sat behind her chewing the fat. The guy in front me asked the clerk when he got to the window if her co-workers could help out and speed up the line, but she said no, they were on break. OK fine, everyone deserves a break, but at 9AM!! Really, I mean the PO just opened at 8:30!! Damn, if you are going to be off the clock, get out of the public view, otherwise you are making the appearance that you just don't want or care to do your job. 2+2=5 I've come here a often enough to know what to expect. I'm usually just getting a few stamps, but even this seems to be a challenge from time to time. First of all, the stamp machine has been out of service for about 2 years and there is no hope of it ever being repaired or restocked. That being said, I get the pleasure of waiting in line for 20 minutes to be told that I did not bring the correct change to purchase 1 regular stamp. You know what, I should have just given her a crisp dollar bill to make it all the easier, but decided I'd have to turn this simple transaction into quite the conundrum. It's funny how this post office is still known as ARCO even though the mall it's located in hasn't been known as the ARCO Center in a long time. Actually, I haven't been here in a long time--maybe fifteen years--so the fact that I'm reviewing this place from (my excellent) memory is even funnier. So I think this mall is now called 505 Flower. It's supposed to be updated and nice and everything that developers and real-estate people say whenever they spend a bunch of money to trying to attract people to spend money on things they don't need. I don't know whether it's worked, occupancy rates at this mall be damned, but I hope this post office still holds all its weird, dilapidated charm. Have you ever been to this mall? If not, you'll first have to get used to the fact that you're underground. That's not such a bad thing, but it can wear on you after you've spent some time down here. It feels kind of like what I as a kid imagined it would be like when World War III started and we'd all have to move underground to avoid the radioactive fallout enveloping the globe. The ceilings everywhere are strangely and scarily low. I mean really low, and this gets worse when you actually enter specific stores. This PO is no exception, although it's large as I remember it. One of the biggest issue with Post Offices in downtown LA during the work week is the long waiting times in line. I can say that at the ARCO Plaza Post Office, I've never had to wait more than five minutes in line 90% of the time. Customer service is decent for post office standards. Typically there is one clerk working behind the counter, although occasionally there will be another working as well. Don't let the oh-so-dated 1970's interior decor scare you off: it's by far the most reliable USPS office you'll find in all of downtown. read more

Incredibly slow service. Each time I've come here there is only one person helping the line of customers. And each customer seems to take about 10 minutes to be helped. Surprisingly, their service improved. I returned couple times only because this was the nearest post office around me, and was pleased with their service. I don't see the grumpy employee anymore. Beyond terrible! I mailed 2-day flat rate large packages (Christmas presents) from here that were supposed to be delivered on 12/19 and they still haven't been delivered and the Tracking doesn't work so even the post office can't track them. I inquired with the clerk and he is a grump and just yelled that they were "in transit." Did they ever make it out of this post office is my question. Nobody cares. I ordered a PO box online because I need the address for trademarking purposes. The receipt said for me to go to the post office to pick up my keys. The post office is located in the very back of an underground mall so it's VERY hard to find. When I finally did the line was out the door. If you looked through the glass doors you can see there is only 1 employee working. The wait was literally an hour and my husband was waiting outside because there is no free parking anywhere near. There was phone reception at all so I couldn't tell my husband to just go to work. I continued to wait. When I finally made it to the front desk and show the guy my online receipt he told me that the guy that normally works is not there and he is the one that knows the password to the computer with the info for PO boxes. He then told me to come back the NEXT WEEK in order to pick it up. Really? I already paid for a per month and forced to sign up for autopay for something that started on April 9th but told to come back on April 18th to get the thing that I paid for nine days prior? I wasn't offered any type of refund or prorate either. I called the USPS number and all the customer service people are from India and dont seem to understand prorating. They were useless. I still have to go back and wait in the super long line just to see if I'll be able to ever get my hands on what I paid for. This post office sucks! The worst service I've ever gotten. I honestly didn't even know that this was legal. I mean I thought the government would have had some sort of standards. They might as well shut this place down. Utterly useless. I'm not going back. I use this location only because I work above it. Generally, the people who work here are not friendly and rude. There is one man who works here that is very nice (Leonard?). Other than that, the others can all use a lesson on what it means to be in customer service. A smile and hello can go a long way.
