Yelpers!! Thank you for your reviews! My experience here was just ok but let me tell you what happened. From everyone's reviews, we did what was suggested and came an hour early before opening. My two adult daughters and I were lucky, we were only second in line but they still didn't open in time (45 min later). Usually, there is about 5-10 people by then. The tips I have to provide you if you have the same situation like us or just need this information that might come in handy. Before coming in (from what I learned): - if your daughter is 18 & over and has had a previous passport when they were underage (16 yrs & under) and has not expired within 15 years, they can do this on their OWN and will have to go to a passport office to apply in person. They will need: * state ID or drivers license officially showing they are 18 and over. You cannot use a permit or school ID or birth certificate or SSN. I guess they said it's by law once they turn 18, they have to carry an ID with them everywhere. Makes sense... * fill out DS-11 (gold form) * expired or going to be expire passport * passport picture. You CANNOT use your own photo! * passport fees (will need two checks) - if you make copies of the forms at home, DO NOT make it double-sided. They only accept single-sided copies. They do have extra forms of the DS-11 forms there so no line needed to get one. - they have no time or no passport pictures done here even if it says so on the wall. Go to Costco as it's only $5. - if your an adult (over 18 yrs) and your passport has expired or will be expired soon, mail it priority with tracking or signature to be sure it gets there. Have all the below ready to mail: * fill out the DS-82 (blue form) * have a passport picture stapled on front form * your old or current passport * passport fee ($110) - get your passport renewed IF your travel date is expired 6 months out. They will not allow you to fly out of the country!!! This is why I am renewing mine since mine will expire in Dec and my travel date is in June! I guess they worry, you won't be able to come back in time if you stay longer?! - the DS-11 is the only ACCEPTED form at any passport office - the DS-82 (most common) is only done through mail. - If you do NOT trust the mail system, they said you can fill in the DS-11 and get in line at the post office to process it there. They is no benefit to you as you will pay an additional $25 for their processing vs mailing it priority mail. There are more questions to fill out on the form and you will have to wait in those awful long lines in the morning! It's cheaper to mail the DS-82. - they said it usually only takes 4 weeks for your new passport to arrive if no issues arise. - use DS-11 if you have lost your passport but will need your state ID - if you're a citizen or lost your naturalization papers, your passport can be used EVEN if it's expired. There are post office where you can make an appointment but calling their phone number is a nightmare. The appointments go out as far as 4 months!!! Oh hell!! Do this if you are not in a rush. This is why we ended up waiting in line on an early Friday morning. Just be sure to get in early to get your number and be taken care of. I would recommend to get their super early to be one of the first 15-20 in line for the 9a-12p time slot. The guy ahead of us came in at 7am since it was recommended by their clerk. The next time slot is 1p-3p and that is even more limited slots who will be taken care of and might not even make it to see anyone if there are left over folks from the morning! We just got lucky on a Friday morning that we only went their an hour early and we were second in line. As for the staff, they were all pretty friendly especially, the passport lady. I was upset that during the time they were supposed to be open, it took her 20 plus minutes to hand out numbers! It's cuz they all asked her questions. I felt bad after as she didn't have help and no one assisted her during this time. There is usually two people that handles the passports from my previous visits. I asked her questions and she gave me pretty good information about the whole process with the government and really appreciated her after. It's not her fault, the person that was supposed to help her didn't come in?! The only knowledgeable person about passports is the clerk in that passport room. DO NOT ask any of the other post office clerks in front about passports cuz they don't know sh*t! I tested one of them and they gave me false information!! Beware! Sorry for the long review but I wanted to make sure you have this info. My points off were mainly for long wait times and management of staff. I just visited the Hayward US post office for the first time since hubby and I moved here about two years ago. It's Tuesday 9am. Service was fast and extremely friendly. What a great first impression! Note that they have a separate line to pick up packages - which I think is a great idea - and that line was already quite long. I can't believe it's gotten to this level. I usually give chances out so things could be made right and my patience has run out with this branch. Few days ago, I had packages were stolen from my property; no problem just filed a claim and currently waiting on the outcome. YESTERDAY; I had another package come in and it was sitting on my wall way RIGHT WHERE IT MEETS THE SIDEWALK. How lazy can you be? My door step is LITERALLY twelve feet from where they left it. NOT TO MENTION, to deliver to the rest of the neighborhood the employee would have to go through our community gate. TODAY, the delivery person left a pick-up slip without even ringing our door bell WHEN MY WIFE WAS HOME? How do we know this? Because our RING doorbell recorded the WHOLE FREAKEN THING. So on my previous review, I said come on weekdays to pick up mail ..I came on a weekday, and the lady who worked the weekend was there. This time she was more friendly, I hand her my driver's license and she takes it to go get my mail, she comes back , hands me my mail and my ID back....I walked out and looked thru on what I thought was my mail....she handed me my neighbors mail since we are all connected with damaged mailboxes. I go back in and told her this is not my mail, it's my neighbor...she then tells me I didn't give her unit number.....uh....you took my license with you that has my address on it....she finally gives me my mail and this time I check to make sure it's mine....my concern is how many times has she done this before and someone less honest might not return wrong mail. Worst place in the whole wide world. Been sitting here for almost 3 damn hours for a passport for my daughter with one clerk working and a gazillion people in line. Worst than waiting in line at the DMV. With all the technology these days you would think in all the years of handling and processing passports they would come up with a way to streamline the process. Nope! Rather than the lady who works for the post office walking back and forth and making announcements and asking people if they have their photos taken. Hello what about a speaker system to ask those questions and have people come up to a line rather than back and forth. Then another one coming out to call out people's numbers. Hello, how about a loud speaker to announce what number next? I'm so frustrated that this is taking up so many hours of my life! 5 stars for me and here's why: I'm a 21st century lady. I shop online and I also sell my gently used or brand new clothing online via eBay and the Poshmark apps. I print and pay for my labels at home and package them up in the privacy of my home. Ain't NOBODY GOT TIME TO WAIT IN LINE AT THE POST OFFICE. Which is why I am always happy when post offices have the Automated Postal Centers. You can pay for labels and stamps for any domestic package. There's also a nifty drop box next to the APC. This post office has an APC. I walked in, dropped in my package, and walked out five seconds later. The only reason why I'm still here is because I'm writing this review in my car. I'm not sure why but the USPS decided to "upgrade" their self service kiosks because ever since this new machine's been in here it has NEVER worked. And the employees are slow and lethargic. No one is trying to hurry or even be friendly. I can ring myself up at the self check kiosk faster and these people do this all day everyday. So please either get working self service kiosks or work on your customer service! This post office is horrible. Sad to report as I had loved coming here that staff would respond "this isn't a photo studio here" when all we asked was a simple "can I take a photo of the package after the shipping label was placed on package" for tracking records when we were sending out x amount of packages & would take photos as she would process each one. Seriously such an unprofessional & rude comment. Yes I understand tracking is on the receipt but unless you have a way of noting the receipt for each tracking at least a name to reference too than no way I know which tracking is for which when I'm sending over 10 items'!! read more

This review is for my passport experience... I read majority of the reviews and came prepared. I arrived here on a Monday morning at 7:50am. There were already four people in front of me. Bring something to do or make sure your phone is charged so you don't get bored out of our mind. The window doesn't open till 9am but still, I suggest going there early because slots are very limited. At 9am, the worker came out and handed each person a ticket number. First come first serve. From there, I waited about an hour until it was my turn to process everything. I was out of there by 10:30am-ish. Hard to really give a 5-star review to a post office, as it usually is right up there with "places that give you agita"--the holy trinity being here, the DMV, and maybe the doctor's office. However, the few times I've been here, lines have been reasonable, the employees were helpful, and I left satisfied. Can't say that too often. Parking lot is small, and there's only one way in, but it's near a ton of other city facilities (courthouse, etc), so get all your civic errands done in one shot. Note: the passport room for renewals and new applications has different operating hours than the main lobby. See the sign on the door. They also do not mail renewal applications for you, you get the information, fill it out, get a filled out envelope (flat rate, but you pay for it at the front), and mail it from the lobby later. I suggest bringing the application in first already filled out, and then just mailing it from USPS in a smaller envelope to potentially save some money (the envelope is one of those pre-paid flat rate ones, maybe you can fit it in a smaller one?) I've never had a long wait here, but then again I don't come around the holidays either. The service is quick and courteous. First time using the Passport office. I called earlier in the week and they said to come 20 minutes earlier than 9 to get a number to wait. If not, you have to come back before 1pm when they reopen to conduct your business. We shall see. At 9:26, the worker opened the door at 9:07. 7 minutes may not seem like much but u still have 2 wait to process. I am #12. I really detest an entire family taking 1 ticket. Most of the staffs at this post office doesn't speak very good English, and when there's someone come in who doesn't speak English, the staff acted impatient and unhelpful. In addition, when you ask them about the cost and insurance they just spurt out numbers and not explaining what exactly it is. For example, when I ask how much is insurance the lady said $200, not explaining that they cover up to $200 so in my mind I am thinking to buy insurance it will cost me $200. I think USPS should really spend money on training their staff or else people would just go to the alternative. read more

(Part 1/4) If I could give them negative stars, I most definitely would. Now please bear with me as this is quite long, but necessary! Let me start off by saying that I loved my old mail carrier, he has been here since my parents were kids. The new mail carrier... Well, she's a complete "witch" to say the least. Not only is she one but her supervisors are just as rude. It's already tough as it is having a disability and needing a service dog to help with daily activities 24/7, but to refuse to give me my mail for over A MONTH now because of him is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I get that a lot of dogs don't like mail carriers and some get attacked, but jeez anyone could pick him up with one arm since he's still a puppy!! On the first encounter with this new mail carrier, I had him lay down at the entrance of my garage (because she is new and I didn't want to startle her if he came with me to get the mail) since I was already outside when she came. To put this into perspective, my garage is about 20 feet from my mailbox and my garage door is another 20-30 feet from my garage door. So she gets out of carrier and is about to walk to me to hand me my mail (I'm standing next to my mailbox) when she stops and takes the mail back. She said "Oh you have a dog over there!" "Yes! He's my service dog." She proceeds to ask if he's "okay". I thought that was an odd question so I responded with a smile and said "yes he's fine, he's my service animal. May I have my mail?" Her response absolutely baffled me! " No because you have a dog there." What?? Because my dog is watching me from 20 feet away you can't give me my mail?! At this point, I was very upset so I said "Okay please give me my mail". I extended my hand so she can hand me my mail. This was a 4 minute exchange that shouldn't have took that long to begin with, but this wasn't even close to the end of what came afterward. read more

Best place to get a Passport done. Our visit was a walk-in; 1.Friday 2pm, there were 8 people in line . Tokens were given to 3 people at frequent intervals. We got the token just before 3pm and waited until 4pm to be called. 2.Required documents were submitted and they accept debit card here. We spent not more than 10 mins after being called inside. 3. The worse location I have experienced. If you are doing business try to stay away from this location as its poorly run at best. If USPS was really a private business it would have closed along ago with many other companies that just cannot provide service and deliver on what they promise. Spend over 100K in postage going through this location and still can't get them to answer the phone. Called over a 2 week period every day except weekend and would let the phone ring and ring until it hangs up and then redial. Did this for 3 hours straight and nothing. So I did a total of 8 hours of dialing them over the 2 week period and never got anyone to pick up. read more

The line moved surprisingly fast thanks to three staff members working at the counter. There was even a staff member checking with customers as they waited in line to see what they were there for and to redirect them as needed. I found that to be an extra level of customer service that I have not experienced at any other post office locations and I really appreciated that this Hayward location offered it. The person that helped me at the counter was friendly and she patiently showed me all of the stamp options that were available. read more

If you need a passport - this was our experience. Hours posted are 1-3pm. I arrived before 2pm. (with TWO toddlers in tow, nonetheless) We waited from 1:50 - 2:30 that was the FIRST customer. At 2:30 they took the next one. No words from anyone on how the process works, who all will/will not be served, when they close - nothing. Just a line with no one to talk to. At 3:30 a lady comes out and hurriedly says "two numbers left" hands them to a couple people and rushes back in. When I am finally next - after TWO hours of waiting - the last lady who was served comes out and says "apparently they're not seeing anyone else today". Door locked. No one to speak to. So if you need a passport, it is a GAMBLE. They say it's "WALK UP" but that's not accurate. Numbers appear to have been distributed at 9am and 1pm. If you are not THERE at those times and RECEIVE A NUMBER --- do not go. And when you do go, expect a 2hr wait and MAYBE you'll get seen. Or maybe you'll get turned away with crying children like I did. UNBELIEVABLE. A little communication goes a LOOOONG way. UPDATE - I went back the following day. I arrived at 8:15am - 45min before they opened. I was 5th in line. They opened promptly at 9am, a nice lady gave instructions and numbers to the entire line several times between 9-11am. They had 2 people taking applicants and we were in by 10am. By 11 they had seen over 10 people. This was twice as fast as yesterday. PLUS the nice lady even ran to my car when they discovered a form that I needed to sign. That was AWESOME. Not sure if yesterday was a bad day or the afternoons are always that way or what, but today was much better. Arrive early, though. By 9am the line had over 20 people. read more

I am handicapped and my postman puts my boxes on the driveway or on the brick instead of leaving them on my porch. I cannot get the boxes on the driveway or lift them. I have had a major stroke. If they are on my porch, I can kick them through the door. Last week, I was putting out the garbage, I had the garage door open. He put my mail on the couch in the garage, he did not tell me he did that. It was just lucky I saw the mail. I guess they do not like to go up the wheelchair ramp. My mailbox is at the top of it. I have to give USPS in Hayward all the stars. Here is why, I had ordered try-on glasses frames at home. Five total. If I do not return them, I get charged. The informed delivery claimed I had received the parcel. I can't find it. Obviously I go into a panic mode. Run out-back and forth, around condo, ask neighbors. My next reaction is to report to USPS (email preferred as calling was null), that the parcel is no where to be found. Next task was to write to the company I ordered and find out what the penalty is. To my surprise the frame company was very understanding. Fast forward to today, I get a message in my cell phone about the delivery. The lady was apologizing in response to the report. The mailman forgot to place the package in our mailbox along with letters. But today he delivered it personally to our doorstep, concerned. Despite the bad reviews that USPS has, I have to commend things like this. I was pleasantly surprised at their support and service. I don't usually write a comment or feedbacks but for this US post office in Santa, Clara Hayward is the worst. I called their office to ask about one of my important mail but they put me on hold for 35 mins. I called, again and again, they transferred me to there supervisor that never answers. I tried to call again and this time I was on hold for 11 mins and finally answered by the supervisor named Brenda and she's not being helpful at all. This please should be visited by a Manager or whoever is higher than the supervisor. Some people take time even the day off from work to do post office staff. Very poor customer service. read more

The workers I encountered were friendly and willing to help. However the people who visit and frequent this post office can be real buttmunches. Sure there should be a few more workers working-- but I don't see why all the hatred towards those who are on duty. I have to admit I was a little erked to show up and find out that my package that was to be picked up was no where to be found (the carrier had ended up taking it to be re delivered without notifying).. But the workers did their best to try and assist. During that time, I witnessed some of the rudest customers come in and have attitude towards those working the front desk. Props to the workers for keeping their cool-- but why all the attitude homies in line? No one likes waiting in line.. But suck it up. It's like the DMV. You know you're gonna have to wait in line, no need to be huffy about it. Parking pretty much is whack. It's a small lot and people are always coming and going so be weary of cars moving around. Lighting at night is pretty bad.. So I wouldn't visit at night. But for the most part it's a fairly large post office and if you're nice the workers reciprocate and are nice back. I know there are some opinions on every Post Office, but this one takes the cake. Our mail box at our complex was vandalized and is completely broken. There for we now have to pick up our mail at the Post Office. It has been over three weeks and yet the mail service or our complex fail to fix our mail box. Coming to this particular branch, the parking area is very small. As I walked in, I noticed two lines. One for outgoing mail and the other for pick up. Tell me why the pick up line was twice as long as the outgoing. There was only one person helping the pick up line. I handed my ID and a utility bill to an asian lady there telling her I wanted to pick up my mail. She looked at me like I was crazy. She took both my ID and the utility bill which had my current address on it and walked towards the back. After about five minutes, which felt a lot longer, she came back and shook her head saying I don't have any mail. Are you serious lady? It's been three weeks, and you're telling me I have no mail? Not one? Not even junk mail? You got to be kidding me. I don't think she even knew how to check where my mail was held. Long store short, I had my Fiancé pick up our mail a couple days later.
