This Carmichael Post Office location deserves a shout out for the friendly customer service AND a Christmas decorating spirit. I happen to be on the way to dinner in Carmichael when I remembered I needed to mail a very special birthday card to Germany. The thing is I wanted to mail it first class, of course, but did not know how much postage would be required. So I could not plaster a bunch of stamps on the envelope and hoped it arrived there!:-) Basically I needed to stand in line and have the employee do his/her thing to get it mailed. Ugh! I rarely have any reason to physically walk into a post office at all. Especially during the holidaze:) Anyway... I suddenly remembered this location and I actually had the letter with me... so what the heck. I was literally a mile away when the light bulb went on. Miracles do happen. It was about 4:15 p.m., and there were only 4 peeps in line. That would never happen in El Dorado Hills. At anytime of the day. So I was thrilled. While waiting my turn, I started looking around and noticed a lot of very tasteful Christmas decor... It brought me to a peaceful moment and I instantly went from uptight and impatient to grateful and happy for that sweet little post office. They really took the time to "deck the halls". By the time it was my turn at the counter... I was in chill mode:) The employee had my letter post marked and into the bin in under 2 minutes. I've got to say that I have had a love/hate relationship with this particular post office. Sometimes I can get in and out of there in just a few minutes while other occasions feels like an eternity as if I am in line at the DMV. This is none other than the Carmichael "US Post Office" that is located directly on Fair Oaks Blvd and adjacent to Carmichael Park. Since I have lived around this area throughout the years, it has been my go-to post office. I will say that the parking lot is quite spacious but the building itself is very outdated. Think of it as being a blast-to-the-past with floor tiling that is from the 1970s/80s and aside from the digital stamp kiosks, this building hasn't seen a whole lot of upgrades in decades. I came here during the afternoon of Saturday 10/18/2025 at around 1:00pm as I had to mail out a certified letter out of state. It was roughly a 15-minute wait as there were 3 postal employees working behind the counter. Once it was my turn, I paid the postage fees and was done in just a few minutes. This post office also has standard hours of operation being open weekdays from 10am-5pm, Saturdays from 10am-2pm, and closed on Sundays. In addition to their customer service area, they sell various mailing envelopes, boxes, and even a nice assortment of Hallmark greeting cards. And if you don't need to buy stamps from an employee, they sell them in the main front entrance lobby area. They also have several blue US mailboxes for standard letters at the exterior parking area. Again, the Carmichael "US Post Office" is a hit or miss. But in this day in age where everything seems to be going digital, I don't see myself frequenting this place that much anymore. This.post office is just plain weird. I guess I got spoiled using the Citrus Heights post office for so long. The package drop off bin does not open half the time. Standing in line for 30 minutes to get postage on a letter. 1 clerk working lots of people in line. Spent 10 minutes helping a customer find a pet store on line with his smart phone while several people were waiting in line, there were 2 other clerks there that were not helping customers just sitting there doing NOTHING. The clerk then tells everyone in line, card only cannot take cash today. Half the double doors have one side locked. Every door! Why? Very annoying place do do business. Everyone here has treated me with the up most respect! A special thanks to Lauren, my fine mail carrier, and the other pse guy who always works alongside Lauren. Lines are how they should be expected BUT each employee is a downright PRO and has extensive knowledge of their position. Like someone else wrote...I have NEVER had a problem here. Also, I am very grateful for the new traffic light which helps those exiting the lot leave MUCH faster now. My initial review was made 7 years prior to 2025 and sadly, only posted on Google (what's written above). The sentiments I had then are exactly what I have now. I love this post office. I get good service and helpful folks. I have my mail held when I go out of town and there has never been a problem with that service. Several times I have had to stay over in Reno due to snow and closed roads. I called the Carmichael post office and they answered the phone and were able to extend my mail hold with no problem. My delivery person Gary is great always picks up outgoing mail, makes sure my mail is in the box and hides packages. Everybody on my route loves Gary. read more

Absolute worst post office in the area. Now to add to the disgust, we have homeless encampments blocking walkways and drive thru mail drops. This terrible location has late pick up times, and we always get our letters mailed to our home late. Secondly, when we mail from this post office, time frame is delayed to our recipients as well. UPDATE: Today (7/24/2023) I received 6 pieces of mail, all of them end-of-the-year (2022) financial documents. EIGHT MONTHS LATE! Should I also describe my experience turning in my rental box key (several months ago)? I actually was smart enough to video the entire experience! Employee (bald white male) repeatedly told me that the USPS doesn't give receipts/proof of key return. LOL! After all these experiences, there was NO WAY I was leaving w/out proof of return, so we went back and forth for awhile until a 2nd employee walked by, caught the gist of the convo, and said "Yes we do," then she poked a couple buttons and PRESTO, a receipt was produced. The employees at the post office are always knowledgeable and helpful. However, in the past two years the mail delivery person (various delivery persons) is not very professional in delivering the mail to the appropriate mailbox here on Engle RD in Carmichael. It's become common to get other people's mail and for (nice, friendly & close by) neighbors to bring my mail to me when it was delivered to them. Some mail is important. Today, a neighbor called to tell me that a tax document from my bank was in her mailbox. Today, I had 2 other people's mail in my mailbox. One was from one person's bank. If this problem only occurred once in a while, it could be overlooked, but when it happens regularly something needs to be corrected. The management at the Carmichael Branch needs to give a heads up to the delivery people to take greater care in preparing mail for delivery and to ensure that the mail address matches the appropriate address on the mailbox. read more

Really? I have never had such a rotten post office experience in my entire life. When I arrived at the post office I discovered that they had very few priority shipping boxes, so I waited in line. When I got up to the counter I asked the postal worker "Do you have any large priority shipping boxes?" He than went in back and returned with a medium size priority shipping box. I said "I need to ship this large shoe box and the box you brought me is too small. Do you have a large box like I asked the first time? He said "No." I asked "what do you suggest I do? I've been coming to this location 3x a week for the past few years because of my online business, and this location is within 1 minute of where I live. I always use the customer service counter and have never had any issues - my packages always start tracking that same day. Only time I've had an issue is once I dropped off a package in the blue collections box outside and it took almost 72 hours for it to start tracking. If I could give them ZERO stars I absolutely would. The Carmichael post office is the worst. I already dread coming here because the people are SO rude...and then today I came to pick up a package and was told it is already being returned to sender. They hold packages for 15 days but after 20 questions I was told they start the return process on day 10. I don't get it. They should state they only hold packages for 10 days then. Would have saved me an hour in line. I scanned the QR code and my package was available for redelivery so I went back inside and was told that "it is not where it is supposed to be" and "she does not have the time to dig for my package" She then gave me a dirty look and excused me from her line. We had a PO Box here for over 10 years, and never had a problem... until yesterday - it was a total failure. My credit card on file expired and we missed the 7 day window to update it with a new card online. Bear in mind, payment is annually renewed. Because we were on vacation (out of town), we couldn't visit this office in person to renew our PO BOX. We also tried paying a different location while out of town, but were told the only way to pay is in person where our PO Box is actually located. So finally, I made time after returning from vacation to renewal our PO BOX. However, was told to pay an additional $22 penalty fee before being permitted to renew this specific POX BOX. Instead, it was suggested we rent a different box with a different number to circumvent this $22 penalty fee. Yeah, this is what we were told... As a paying customer for over 10 years (without issues) and paid well over $1000 in total over the years, I requested a Supervisor to review this matter with consideration to waive the $22 penalty fee. The Supervisor simply refused to waive the fee unless we had a serious medical emergency and he further said this would require us to provide a "note from the doctor" (just baffling). Going out of town on vacation during the summer is an invalid reason for not paying in person according to this Supervisor (he actually said this to me,...and I was like...really?!!). Well considering our patronage for more than a decade, we felt sadden and discouraged to continue doing business at this USPS location, as a direct result of dealing with this unsympathetic Supervisor on 9/4/19. FYI, We selected this location over 10 years ago because they were the only USPS in Sacramento that allowed customers convenient access 24/7 to their PO BOX, which changed about 3 or 4 years ago so it's now just normal hours same as all the other USPS in Sacramento. In closing, if the Supervisor cannot waive a $22 fee without a "doctor's note," then this person IMO really does not care about the average customer trying to do regular business at this location OR the system is simply broken and will continue to be an epic failure until privatized. Furthermore, these systems should really be connected. For instance, in today's modern world cars can even drive themselves, right?! At a minimum, USPS should be able to accept money/payment at other locations for any PO Box currently being used by a customer in the USA. Think about it, just how do they calculate revenues since these individual systems are working in silos... the excel spreadsheets have to be unbelievably manual, which is prone to error and constant reconciliation... due to fraud vulnerabilities. read more

So I want to first I'll save my mailman is fantastic had the same one for quite a while he's great knows my name I know his name we're good. Now the problem I have with this location is there drop off boxes on the side of the building! . It is a black hole I have left packages in their and they will not show tracking for days especially if it's the weekend, I dropped packages off on a Friday should've registered Saturday morning because God for bid they do their job and check the freaking boxes. It's been two days and they still haven't showed up tracking on my latest drop if it's that hard to check the boxes please put them in a different location where an employee will actually go out and physically get the mail the people are putting in their. I run two businesses through the mail and Citrus Heights location is a far better local post office I highly recommend instead of this location you take your time to go to Citrus Heights because they do their job check their boxes and make sure mail gets out in a timely manner read more

I have lived in Carmichael since 1999 and visit this location often. Yesterday I had a super experience there thanks to Lauren, one of the employees who help customers at the windows. Lauren went above and beyond to assist me with putting postage on almost 100 items when the self serve machine (new and improved??) would only allow me to print 5 stamps at a time and re-enter payment for EACH group of 5. I asked to buy stamps ($2.50 per mailer) and she offered to just weigh and meter each one which was a huge help and made it go so much faster. She was gracious throughout even though there was a long line but there were several clerks working their windows. I've never needed so much help at once but that's the way having your own business goes. Lauren was a champ to help me as she did! Last week Chris was helping me and he was super nice. Rick retired from there this past year after years of being super knowledgeable. I've only had one average clerk there and I understand she's retiring in 2019. I don't know what warrants harsh criticism of a post office. The staff are working within guidelines that they don't make decisions on. It's not their fault if someone doesn't like the rules and costs. This is my post office and I support it gladly! read more

So of all the different usps I have been using to send out my eBay items no one has told me I could be saving money using the flat rate boxes at times but not at others. Lauren was kind enough to take some time to let me know how to properly make use of the flat rate and when not too. It's employees like these that I'm thankful for and because they are willing to take a few minutes of their time to show the next person how to do things right even if it doesn't benefit them. On the other hand the older middle aged lady wth short brown curly hair and glasses is really short tempered and not very personable at all. I hope management sees this and take the proper initiative to adjust her temperament towards customers. It wasn't only my experience but other I observed who were less than pleased. I normally HATE going into post offices! Its like the DMV & the dentist! I had a package to mail to SoCal & happened by here after the chicken Festival. There were alot of cars in the parking lot. Oh JOY! So I prepared myself for a long lineup. There was. Of course a tired Mom with a cranky toddler. Poor things! I know that frustration! So along comes a nice postal employee pulling people out for flat rate & stamps! OH JOY!!!! I fill out my slip and she prints me up a label...i'm in and out in 10 minutes! UNHEARD OF!! I have lived in Carmichael since 2001 and have had hundreds and hundreds of dollars in theft from this post office. Mostly gift cards, but also silver coins from ebay and actual money. At one point around 2007, I was able to get a post master general involved but they never let me know if they caught the thief or thieves. I'm guessing not, since my most recent loss was a $75 gift card to Outback Steakhouse my father sent me for my birthday last week. Every time I have complained, the employees/managers here get defensive as if I am calling them thieves. Well guess what, if the shoe fits. This is the fourth place I have lived in Carmichael since 2001 and we've had theft from straight regular old mailboxes, the group lock boxes and even mail delivered to a box attached to our front door. I've come to the opinion that this post office is run by a bunch of low life scumbags and I plan to ask my family to only send us used gift cards to expensive restaurants, because at least then these a-holes will have to pay for their own dinner for a change. #karma read more

The same people have been working here for about a billion years. The only person that is friendly is fairly new. The others have likely been doing the same job way too long and are very grumpy and short with folks a lot of the time. The line here moves SLOW. If the line is long I just leave and come back another time. The automated machine is a big plus. I use it whenever possible. It's a post office. What more can I tell you? They sell stamps. And... You have to wait in line to send your parcels. I've waited for 35 minutes in line at this place before. Staff is somewhat friendly. Not complete robots like a lot of Post Offices. lol! They have PO Boxes for rent, and there is plenty of parking out front. I think the trick is to go first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon, and mid-week if you can help it. It is terrible here. My family came here for my little brothers renewal and the workers do not cooperate to ethnicities of different races other than their own. This dude this guy named Ricardo doesn't give the light of day and has the rudest comments to give to anyone that is trying to renew or get something very important done. Furthermore why would you guys hire someone like him? Maybe he has a paper saying he is qualified but the perks of being an honest employee doesn't come from that at all. They will wine and dine you until they start working and getting into your hearts till they finally show you their true colors.
