If you go, avoid postal worker Jim C. at all costs. He is a gray-haired indolent sloth who makes it clear to customers that his lunchtime couldn't come any sooner. Plus he berates his customers (me, specifically) by having the gall to say "patience is a virtue." He said this in response to my moving to the other worker who had just become available while Jim slowly sauntered away to the back to get his glasses (which he should just keep at his desk). I had waited two minutes and he was still gone. He walks around the workspace as if he is in his robe and slippers at home just waking up in a funk, not having had his morning cup of coffee. Dude, snap out of it! You have a line of 12+ people! Have at least an iota of urgency. Put some pep in your step. Drink Red Bull like your co-worker if you have to, but don't ever make a customer feel like he or she is being impatient or an inconvenience to your desire to be terminally inert. Kudos to Scott for being efficient enough to make up for the sloth. read more

The utter crappiness of the JP Post office is now legendary. It is a massive LOCAL EMBARRASMENT! If it were possible to give NO stars, I'd do so. Always, the line is long and while various employees are milling around in the background, none jumps in to help the lone on duty clerk with the growing line of customers which is often out the door. The service is often surly and when problems arise, no one takes responsibility or knows what to do other than to do their best to get rid of you. My sister in Wisconsin sent me by priority mail a used laptop for my son which was guaranteed by the USPO to arrive priority mail on October 8th. Today is October 14 and I have not received it. For reasons still unexplained to me, the tracking history marked it as "delivered" to some undisclosed address in Roslindale, even though I live in Jamaica Plain. The JP Post Office were totally ineffective in helping me find it and failed to return phone calls. So, when I showed up in person day after day they regarded me with increasing hostility and just wanted me to leave. At one point the manager who I was trying to get some information from announced to her underlings that it was time for her to leave and without letting me know who would take over helping me, she just split. When I showed up again the following day and saw me she just rolled her eyes once again sending me off on my way with no information but with a huffy attitude which said "please get off my back and go away". Today I got a phone call from someone at the PO saying they've found my laptop and I should go and pick it up from Roslindale PO. They seemed put out when I suggested that since my sister paid for it to be sent to my home address in JP, they should deliver it there. After some time of being left on hold, the guy finally agreed he will have it delivered (as paid for !) to my house. Let's see if it actually arrives. Bottom line: NOT ONCE did anyone give me an apology. Let's put the JP post office out of its misery and close it down. Wasn't that the plan? They are incompetent, rude, lazy and anyone who sets foot in that place comes out in a much worse mood than they went in. I give them 3 stars because in my opinion, the window clerks are all FIVE STARS. However, I'm writing this review because I just had a huge check sent back to the institution that wrote it. They had the correct address and mailed it two weeks ago as promised. I've had the same post office box for decades and everyone up front knows me. Now I'm waiting on the check all over again.......By the way, I send packages every day in my business and I'm a big fan of the Post Office in general. It works better than their competitors for a small business like me. Very few problems over the years. This rating would be higher if that check hadn't been sent back. read more

Again. As one other reviewer posted, walked 20 minutes to drop off a package in the self-service 24h area but came to find all doors leading to the post office were locked. Had to drag my package home only to bring it back another day that I can hopefully get there before 5:30pm. Also - the line for service desk is typically a 15-45 minute wait so if you need anything (like stamps, metered packages, odd sized items) shipped, plan on losing that 30 min of your life. This is why i try to use the self service area up front but I see they've limited that "luxury" read more

My Horror Story at Jamaica Plain, MA post office I had a postal box 300077 that was accidentally closed because we don't use that box a lot but use it for critical mail like checks. For two months, after we found out it was closed, I kept coming back and Scott, the manager of postal box, continued to lie to me and sent me back and forth. At first he told me, he will open the box for me, just bring a new application with IRS letter, corporation forms, and two IDs. After I brought back the application, it took couple of weeks just to find him and postal workers refuse to take the application because he is the only person who can take the application and process it. Finally when I found him, he told me to come back on a day he was scheduled to be. I live in Minnesota but my business is here in Boston so I went to my family and when I came back I met with Scott and again after I have called David, who is Scott's manager, who told me the box is still under your name and available just come pay what you owe and Scott will open it for you. I came and by then we had a $60,000 check that was sent to that mail box sitting behind the counter. I met with Scott again. He told me only the general manager can open the mail box and I should come back the following day to meet with her. That was September 7th, 2016. I came back on Thursday September 8th and he told me, the manager can't meet with me because she is in a meeting and she won't meet with me. I came back that afternoon and begged one of the postal workers to give us our check because 100s of employees were relaying on that check to receive their weekly pay check. After I have told my ordeal to him, he gave me the check, even though Scott told me he doesn't have a check for my company, blatantly lying to me. This worker also took my application telling me, I don't need to fill out an application because the box is still under our name. He also tells me come back to meet with Scott again on Friday afternoon at 3pm September 9th, 2016. Scott was not there. The following Monday, September 12th, 2016. I met Scott again and told him the postal team gave me my check and took my application to reopen the box. He agrees to re-open the box and tells me to wait. Minutes later he comes back to tell me the internet is down and he can't open my mail box and I have to come back another day. I told him, I would like to talk to the branch manager. He insisted she can't meet with me because she is in a meeting. I insisted I won't leave until I meet with her. After waiting around at the branch counter line area for a while and all the employees smiling and all surprised, the Indian guy says, "they are playing cat and mouse with you" as if I don't know. Shortly she comes out and tells Scott to open the mailbox and re-assign to me. Even though the internet was down, in 5 minutes the mailbox was re-assigned to me at $200.00 and 3 months of "cat and mouse" chasing each other. And they wonder why they are losing customers to UPS and FedEx. read more

If there was a lower rating I would give it to them. How do people that live in JP tolerate a post office that looses packages, refuses to deliver packages on Saturdays, and whose mailmen freely change the status of packages from "out to delivery" without it actually being out for delivery? One time they changed the status of one of my packages from, "out to delivery" to "available for pick up". I paid money to have my packages delivered to my home. If I wanted to pick up my package at the post office I would have made my purchases at the mall, and saved shipping cost. Shame on you guys, the postal service is going to be obselete and bankrupt thanks to the poor service it provides. I'd rather pay UPS, FedEx, or DHL, at least they make an effort. read more

Here it is a Thursday and the self-service kiosk supplies shelf is empty of all labels. On top of that, the Priority / Express mail self-service was "locked" even though it was only 11 AM. I am unemployed, would love to find work and would have the energy to help a place like this be more efficient ... which is why I probably wouldn't be hired. Not hard to imagine why the U.S. Postal Service is becoming less and less relevant ... but the prices keep rising. read more

Rating is NO star.... now with no operational car am stuck using JP P.O. and it is and always has been in the 16 years I've lived here a NIGHTMARE! When they enlarged it several years ago, one would have thought they'd add a couple more windows, but noooooo.... majority of hours have a window open for passports, which is ridiculous under the circumstances of almost always obscenely long lines. Most of the time there is one window open, occasionally when two or even the third are open, those manning them have disappeared to 'recover' something. I have, a majority of the time, regardless of day or time of day, waited 15-20 minutes, and frequently 30 to 50 minutes! If you've got a way to get there, go to the BROOKLINE VILLAGE P.O. I went there as often as possible when I had a car because regardless of the length of the line in the very small facility, all three windows were open and you'd be in and out in no more than 10 minutes, even pre-Christmas. And THEY know of the JP p.o.'s reputation! THERE IS NO EXCUSE... going postal doesn't apply to employees there, but to those forced to be its customers! (frequent change of window employees there, too, many of whom have been very nice, but what's important is a reasonable wait time!) read more

Waited in a long line on a Saturday morning to pick up a package. The guy behind the counter told me to come back at 1pm and pick it up. They close at 1pm on Saturdays. He did go and look for it in the back and by "look for it" I mean he chatted with a co-worker for two minutes in plain earshot of the counter. When he returned, he just handed me the slip without a word and called for the next customer. read more

While I must agree that our postal delivery in JP has been incredibly frustrating with lots of other people's mail coming to our door - god knows where our mail goes... But keep in mind, Republicans in Congress keep taxes as low as possible and money for social services (that includes the PO) as low as possible. And, although I often have to wait in line, I see most workers consistently working, not chatting as one reviewer said. It's kinda like blaming teachers for the mess int he public schools - sure there are some bad eggs but the whole system is underfunded and dealing with a huge bundle of social problems that don't get enough attention due to low priorities in funding. read more

Ok. So nobody is perfect. After I had a hissy over not having the right photos for my daughter's passport I came back with the right photos after the time when they stop taking applications. The guy took our application and gave us very gracious service in spite of us being late and having had a hissy fit over my own mistake. So, kudos to JP Post Office. read more

Terrible service! I am Australian and had to post a package back home. The people were nasty, when I tried to be helpful and put the package that they told me to use but then realised it was not what I needed back, the lady at the counter yelled at me saying I need to pay for the package thinking I am leaving?! We had to go through three different packages before she worked out which one to use. The other person at the counter had no idea what he was doing either and also yelled at me?! Is this the way American post office service workers treat their customers?! I am appalled. Also, to be fair, they could have operated just with one person who actually had to rescue both of them and he was the only nice person who understood what I needed. Ugh, never again, I pay extra and go with dhl before I step my foot into the American post office. read more

I've lived in JP for over 10 years, and over the past year and a half this post office has become so incompetant that I can no longer use them. The girl behind the counter with the dyed bangs -- completely rude, lazy, and refuses to be accountable. Twice now I have had issues that require them to provide a refund because the item either was not delivered as paid for, or the self service machine at the entrance did not dispense my postage. Regardless of having a receipt, the undelivered item right there showing they mishandled it for a month then sent it back tot the sender (me), regardless of the fact that they indeed HAVE postage there they could reimburse me with, both times I had to fight with the person in front after having to wait for a half hour in line because they move slower than rocks and are never properly staffed. Management is not there until the middle of the day = take time off from work, lose money, just to fight with a manager that doesn't plan to help in any way. The manager would take my information, tell me he's going to research the issue, then never call me back or ever be accountable. I'm now on the phone with USPS to complain, file a request for a refund, and the item I mailed is now over a month delayed in shipment. This was a business package and I've now lost my customer as they won't trust that the mail will be delivered. AND RIGHT NOW USPS Customer Service has kept me on hold for five minutes then disconnected my call when it went through to a representative. If priority mail "has no guarantee and cannot be delivered if the carrier thinks the package will not be safe" how the *&^% is it logical to return the package to the sender? Would it not be more logical to let the package be stolen and then show online it arrived at it's destination? Now I'm footing the bill for their carrier's poor judgement and their illogical policy. without a doubt, this is the worst postal location I have ever had the misfortune to be serviced by.

the WORST! typical wait lines of 30 minutes to an hour, only one teller is running around doing everything. on top of this, all my packages make it to "jamaica plain USPS" and then are LOST. my roommate got her christmas packages LATE FEBRUARY! what is going on here? they've lost the last three packages i've ordered and i had to track them down myself, they even looked for my package and said they couldn't find it BUT IT WAS THERE ALL ALONG. every time they lose something, i get a call saying they can't do anything about it.
