Certainly the mistake is mine at this point, I should have known better. I thought that after 3 whole years of HORRENDOUS mail delivery that, maybe this one time, they wouldn't screw up a package delivery to my house. This will now be my THIRD official complaint filed with the Postal Service regarding this Jamaica Plain branch and a package I never received, though I've had many more issues than just those three. Most of the time I am lucky if I get my neighbors mail, and they get mine, so at least we can exchange... but packages... for - get - a - about - it. Even though I specifically ask for 'Delivery Confirmation' my packages still get left on a front porch, sometimes at the wrong house, as I sit home waiting all day. Yet again they've fucked me... I should have known better and paid for UPS for FedEX. 1 Star was far too much. read more

Now I understand where the term, "Going Postal" comes from... holy crap man! All I wanted to do was mail ONE letter, buy ONE stamp. That's all! I walk in and see the automated machine; I think to myself, "hrm this will be nice and easy!" Walk up to it: I can only buy 18 stamps at a time. I go to wait in line. The line was long with two federal employees serving the people. Ten minutes into my wait, one of them says, "it's lunch time" and walks off to eat lunch, leaving the poor lady to deal with all us tax payers! Eventually, the lady yelled to the lunch dude to come out and help because the line had got out of hand. Long story short: it took about 15 minutes for me to purchase my one stamp and because my envelope was square instead of rectangular, it cost me $.64! Argh! read more

I had never really contemplated the service at the many Post Offices I have visited in my life. I have appreciated the friendly workers, forgiven the grumpy ones, understood the waiting in line, and in general have assumed that a visit to the Post Office is not supposed to be fun or enjoyable. It comes with the territory, and the tradeoff is that letters and packages can travel around the world between you and other people reliably and affordably! Now that I am a regular customer at this Post Office, I realize how much I took for granted. The time spent waiting in line, which I had so easily shrugged off as a necessary element of sending and receiving mail? I now look back at those waits and realize just how speedy they were in comparison. I have been in the JP Post Office at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday and waited in line for a half hour. On a Saturday morning, you'd better clear your schedule, for you will spend the majority of your morning at a standstill in the legendary ranks of the JP Post Office line. All while watching three federal workers gathered around a single desk trying to puzzle out a simple issue. They will stand there, ignoring the growing line, as they all try to figure out how to do the work of a single person. The service, which I assumed came with some smiles, some frowns, but a general willingness to accomplish the tasks at hand? I guess I took that for granted. Try having the door slammed in your face at 5:29 with a surly "we're closed". Try asking for tracking and insurance and being met with a deer-in-the-headlights blank stare, as the person you're talking to looks completely puzzled by your request. Try asking for the package that has been delivered to this location, with a printed confirmation in your hand, watching the person you're talking to disappear for 15 minutes, then come back empty-handed with nothing more than a shrug. Try repeating this last experience, over and over, month after month, until you no longer trust that any mail delivered to your P.O. box will actually end up where it should. At this point, I'd estimate that about 10% of the packages that have been "delivered" to our P.O. Box at the JP location have gone missing in action. The scenario goes something like this: order off Amazon, watch the tracking, see that it's been delivered, go to Post Office, fail to locate slip in P.O. box. Wait in line (goodbye afternoon!) ask the person behind the desk to please find the package under your name, wait 15 more minutes (it's starting to get dark out), get the package. Or maybe not, because sometimes they don't actually find it back there. In which case, it's best to go home, come back another day, and hope that you are helped by someone with better searching skills. There is one very nice woman who does her job well and is always helpful. I always hope I get her but I never do. She is literally the only thing about the Post Office that works the way it should. So I guess the one star that Yelp makes you give should go to her. read more

Hands down the slowest post office I've ever been to. The employees here are guaranteed always in a bad mood and arnt afraid to show it. They seem almost to work as slow as they can on purpose and at any time of the day will always show absolutely no sense of urgency. An example of terrible government employees at their worst. When it comes to delivery I always have a problem with this post office. When they deliver a package to my home when I'm there the delivery person does not ring bell. The delivery person leaves an orange slip. When I request re delivery , it takes them longer than expected to re deliver . It makes me feel my package is lost or sent back to merchant. If this post office is delivering something you need right away. Beware, receiving the item at your door step is the problem. The staff isn't really professional over the phone. They act like your harassing them when it's their job to provide a service. I hate going to this post office too. 75% of the time! lines are always long. This post office makes me sick. read more

I've been living at my current address and have had a hard time receiving my packages because of "incorrect address". Yet... I waited 35 minutes on a Friday mid-day to mail a package of books. Normally the machine in the lobby is my choice, but it doesnt offer media reduced rates..I had to choose between skipping lunch and mailing my package. I chose lunch and the books are still on the back of my bike. The staff are polite and i haven't run into any who cant answer questions, the problem seems to be poor management. The staff is not trained to be efficient, only thorough.In ither POs one worker is assigned to deal with all pik-ups, for instance, rather than having all workers goig off for ten minute searches. In the past I have found the Dudley P.O. Efficient and totally uncrowded. Both nearby Brookline Pos are efficient, but more crowded! read more

I wish the higher ups at USPS would read Yelp reviews. Yesterday: 3 registers, 4 employees. Guess how many registers were open? Zero. One register had something wrong with it, so all 4 employees were standing behind it staring at it and making occasional suggestions to fix it. Guys, I know staring at a broken register is way more exciting than helping the many customers waiting in line, but get it together. One of the 4 had been working in the back until the exciting broken register attraction happened, and he came out with his blue shirt partly unbuttoned and dyed black shaggy hair, looking pretty much exactly like an Elvis impersonator. But even that only has so much entertainment value while I'm standing in line waiting for service. read more

After living in JP and using this location to send and receive various packages, I totally get the other reviews. The employees here move like molasses in January, and if there is ever an issue they disappear in the back for several minutes at a time. It just so happens that, since my previous review, every time I go there is a line of varying length with either only one or two employees behind the counter. Upon finally arriving, there always seems to be an issue with something, and it takes longer than it should. This is after I make sure all of my ducks are in a row, too. I have seen worse, but they definitely need to get their act together. read more

The single worst thing about living in Jamaica Plain. Count on any trip to this post office taking at least 20 minutes. The staff are usually pretty nice, but this place is just cursed. There is a serious ongoing problem with mail delivery on Route 24 in Jamaica Plain which my husband and I have tried to address on the phone and in person numerous times. My neighbors and I have had the following problems ever since our former mail carrier, Shawn, and then, briefly, Ping, left. (We had no problems with them--in fact they were incredibly professional.) Since then: * We have had missed days with no mail delivery, the latest being riday. This was especially odd as I saw the carrier driving down the street--yet nobody on that street or the surrounding streets received mail. * Mail is misdelivered on such a regular basis that it's noteworthy when we don't get mail meant for others. We redeliver it to the proper people whenever possible, but sometimes it is so far away that we are forced to give it back to the mail carrier to redeliver. Naturally, we assume that our own mail is being left at other's houses; thus, we have no assurance that we are getting our mail. We are dependent on our neighbors volunteering to act as our mail carrier. * We have missed mail, including credit card bills. We have been fined with late payments due to missing bills. Paychecks have been delivered late. Other checks may never have come. Magazines come late, missing, and some look as though they sat in a puddle for a period of time. *Mail comes late, very late at times. We've gotten mail as late as 9PM. *Neighbors have missed delivery of their medication. We have called and visited the post office to complain numerous times. Each time we are told that the carrier, Steve, "owns the route" and thus nothing can be done. While I support unions, I cannot believe that their protection overrides our right to correct and daily mail delivery. This problem needs immediate and ongoing attention. If it is this bad now, in the summer, we can't imagine what the winter could hold. I work at home and am dependent on the mail to conduct my business. Many others in the area are in the same position. read more

If you ever want to understand why the post office is dying a slow painful death, just come here. And if there are ever any issues with mail, you can forget about getting a problem solved, or for that matter, even getting a courtesy call back despite multiple assurances that you will. So called office during business hours and the line is busy. Then I called toll free number and that too failed. Wtf is wrong with post office? This is beyond unacceptable. If I could get all mail emailed or even faxed would be the best thing to ever happen. USPS needs to be completely taken over by the government and just maybe they could improve. read more

I came across the yelp for this branch while trying to find their opening times, and I thought, "How could one negatively review a post office...all post offices are bad" This one has set the bar for worst. Incompetent. My experiences with this post office have been mediocre at best.They misdeliver and misplace packages and mail, and often have held packages or certified mail without any notification. Several times I have gone to pick up packages and they can't find them. There is almost always a long and slow moving line if I am unfortunate enough to actually need to go there in person. I'm here to tell the tale of the hard-working employees on my route that I believe come out of this office. They have continuously gone above and beyond to get me my mail and packages. I live on S Huntington in JP, and my regular carrier Stanley is a kind and helpful man that goes out of his way to deliver to the less-mobile residents in the building, and is truly so sweet. Today he helped me by calling another carrier to ask him to come re-deliver a package I missed. That carrier, Tom, was back within the hour with my package in tow. Tom is always friendly and kind when delivering my packages, such a peach! My final angel worth mentioning is Rich, who went above and beyond in one instance when I had a lost package. I had a package attempted to be delivered when I was out of town one day, and I finally returned from out of town on the last day the package was able to be picked up before it was sent back to China. The package wasn't re-delivered as requested, and a woman on the phone couldn't find it in the morning. I called back in the afternoon and I spoke to Rich on the phone and he told me he was personally dedicating himself to finding my package, and within a few hours he located the package and personally drove it to my house! Can you believe that!! Maybe I've gotten lucky, but in my experience these are some lovely and hard-working people who care for their customers! Thanks guys! read more

Love the USPS; hate this branch. If you are mailing something internationally that has any complicating factors, most everyone here (including Ed and Ines) is useless. I read the USPS international mailing guide online and was convinced that my packages were too large to go by registered post to Italy. I called this branch twice to be sure I'd read the guide correctly. Both times I was told that sending the stuff registered would be no problem. I even pressed, saying that the online postage calculator wasn't offering me the option. "Nope, you'll be ok. Just come on in." So, I showed up with two huge packages in tow...and was told that registered post was not an option. I lost one mailing day due to this incompetence. ***HELPFUL HINT: Ask/wait for TOM (heavy-set, good-natured Caucasian guy) if you need your thornier questions answered. He gets 5 stars in my book, but he's the only one. Oh, and I wish I could give minus five stars to the woman who smacks her gum, never looks you in the eye, and never reads you your choices for mailing (if you ask, she'll look at you as if you're a dumbass for caring about the service you might receive for a dollar more or less. They claimed that they tried to deliver a package, but I know I was home during the time they "tried" to deliver it and it appears that they flat-out lied about the attempt. Tracking said that it was at the post office and I had 15 days to pick it up, but when I went there today (and waited in the ridiculously long line), they couldn't find the package. This review is more of their mail delivery coming from this location and partly the management of this office. We are constantly getting mail from different houses other than our own, even several houses down, which in turn means that our mail is being dropped off elsewhere as well. When I call them and complain about the problem they do nothing about it. Their employees are in desperate need of retraining! read more
