I like this location a lot. I try to schedule my usps needs when im near this location. Staff are efficient and personable (specifically Vannesa!) She has done both of my kids passport (and mine too). She always has a smile on her face even if her appoitnments are back to back. I like that they also have a kiosk for outgoing small packages. I have used that a couple of times and never had a problem. There maybe a couple of staff here that are not as friendly as her. I hope they use her as a model on how to interact with the public! It was annoyed at first sight. Employee Kim gave me that look. I had 2 flat rate large boxes in my arms and she evidently wasn't in the mood to work hard today. No greeting, no smile. No ounce of fake politeness or friendliness. There was no one in line and I stand and respect the etiquette of waiting until I get called. I smile at her and she just looks at me as if I can read her mind. I told her I'm ready when she is and she barks that she's ready now. How did I not know that (?) I'm not a mind reader. I use usps as my mailing service and a loyal customer. I hope Kim is not the manager. Her superiors need to remind her good customer service goes a long way. She needs to retire if she's unhappy. It is small but thankfully the parking lot is rarely filled. Vanessa is usually the one assisting me. She is pleasant and takes the time to explain/answer any of my questions. It was easy navigating the website to schedule an appointment to take my passport photo. It's a good idea to hang onto the receipts with the tracking number. If you pay for priority mail and it isn't delivered within the expected time frame, it is easy to dispute and get your money back. read more

There is no good reason to lock the lobby up preventing post office boxes to be accessed. People who work during open hours aren't able to pick the mail up. Not all post offices lock the lobby, considering the location of benicia post office there really is no good reason to lock the doors or expect customers to pay full price for a po box they can't access. I wait in line like every other post office that looks and operates like this one and I get what I need done. Then I move on with my life. 12/04/2019 USPS visit in Benicia, CA: I was tended to by an Asian clerk (I apologize that I didn't catch his name) who was friendly, professional, efficient and hard working. But my overall visit was not so great because there was so much arguing going on from the customers being helped before me. What didn't help is that a frontline staff member (I believe this was Vanessa, a latina older lady) was just as confrontational back to the customer. She was told why she was being rude and her response was that she was tired. That is not acceptable. It sucks that you have to think about preparing for behavior like this from particular frontline staff when going to this post office. The rude behavior, sarcastic comments and demeaning looks do not concur with good customer service. Good luck to us all. read more

I order from Amazon regularly. More often than not, I get a "sorry I missed you" notice rather than a package delivered in two days as promised. This even happens when someone is home waiting. My driveway is long so they don't even try. They used to ring the doorbell or leave packages at my front door, which is fine since you can't see my house from the street. They have become soooo lazy. I order dog food so I can have it delivered to my house since I work and NEVER get home when the post office is open and sometimes the pet store is closed. I have had to stop during my commute just to get food to hold us over as the delivery sits at the post office. Then I have to go to the Post office to pick it up which defeats the whole purpose of ordering it to have it delivered. It hasn't always like this. I had good carriers but I guess they were reassigned. My brother works at a different location and told me Amazon contracted the USPS for delivery. He sometimes works on Sunday to deliver packages and told me they are required to deliver ONLY Amazon packages on Sunday. I think it's a fantastic agreement which could save jobs. But if you have a mail carrier that is lazy or rushed, and doesn't want to deliver your package to your door (even when requested in shipping instructions)... don't count on it. It will be a sad day for USPS when Amazon's contract is up for renewal. The company will decide to use independent contractors and Lyft drivers will be called for deliveries. It's already happening in some bigger cities. As for the notice I received four days ago, I checked my order status and it says, "Delay with the carrier. Send replacement or return?" Hmmm... the choice is to go to the Post office in a Saturday, wait in line for ??? until it's my turn, wait for someone in back to respond to the window clerk, get the bag from the shelves in back, give it to me at the counter, then I carry it to my car. The store is closer to my house, I can grab the food and pay for it, plus they will carry a #30 bag out for me, then load it into my car in ten minutes. What do you think I should do? read more

The Benecia post office is tucked away in this little sleepy seaside town and hold a big space to only have 1 teller at a time. Best place to get an appointment for passports though the lady at the desk was very helpful in renewing my passport and they take your photos for $15 here as well. People at counter are moderatly nice. However i had an important item showing delivered at 9:20 am. I went in at 11:30am. Lady cant find it, says its prob in the big pallet (even though shipping receipt says signed for) I asked when can I get it then, she said prob not till tomorrow??? WTF my mail is in the office marked as delivered and the staff wont help me get my package till a whole day later.... My old. Po box staff was always willing to help. If I could give negative stars I would. "Marvie the supervisor" was manning the dutch door for passport appointments. My appointment was for 145pm I showed up a 115 to get an application, I buzzed the door a few times and no one showed until 140 when I locked eyes with Marvie and she basically had to answer. She gave me the applications and shut the door so she wouldn't have to answer the door again. I went to the regular post office window for packages and Sonja answered the dutch door. Marvie came to the door after prompted by Sonja and said she was "busy" and that I had missed my appointment because I didn't have the application ready. Even though I showed up a half hour early and couldn't get an application because she refused to do her job. Sonja refused to give me Marvies name, (I assume for fear of reprisal from the supervisor) but another employee gave me the name. I won't name them to protect them from Marvie. read more

This post office: has lost packages and mail NUMEROUS TIMES! They miss deliver my mail to MULTIPLE WRONG ADDRESSES! I just had a $1300 check returned to sender with "cannot deliver to this address." So I checked with sender, they have the correct address, and I ask them to send the check again. This time it gets delivered! The post office miss delivers my mail, on average, 3 to 4 times a month! They try to jam mail, most of it not mine, into my mailbox, breaking CDs and other items. I avoid going into the post office because the vast majority of the employees are dullards. There is an Africa American woman working there that is very pleasant and helpful. GOOD JOB! The rest of them, not so much. I am still in shock... I spent a week trying to get an appointment to get my first passport. Calling Fairfield and the phone literally ringing over and over, day after day. With Suisun, the phone was answered and 'disconnected' immediately every time I called, for a solid week straight. Vacaville I literally stayed on hold, for minutes and minutes. I only tried them 3 times though, on 3 different days. So out of desperation, and a rapidly approaching Mexico vacation, I started calling other Post Offices, and Benicia was the first one. The answering system gave all the pertinent information regarding passports, and then when I pressed to make an appointment... a very sweet lady answered the phone and apologized that there was not an appointment for 3 weeks. Today was my appointment, at 11. I got there about 10 till, and was waiting outside the dutch doors for them to call me (as I was instructed on the phone when I made the appointment). A woman came to help a business customer at the door, and when she was done she asked if I had been helped. When I told her I had an 11 appointment, she took me back right then. I was out, in my car by 11:08. And with a clear understanding of the process, what my payments were for, phone numbers if I had any questions during the processing time, etc. Such an absolute pleasure dealing with them. As opposed to my local offices, where, at its best, you will get eyes rolled at you by the representative a minimum of twice or they will snap your head off. For the past two days I have been going back and forth unproductively with different post office branches in my area trying to locate a package that I was told was sent to the wrong address and zip code. Up until a moment ago, all that has been very unproductive and I have been treated with a bit of sarcasm from a few different locations that were in the Contra Costa area. When I couldn't find a telephone number for the Pleasant Hill Post office, I called our Benicia Post Office. WOW! I was very impressed. In Benicia, Crystal answered my phone call on the second ring. Now I grew up with a small town post office and there is a lot to be said for them. Crystal took my call with a clear, cheery voice and was truly interested in listening and helping. She took it upon herself to call the other postmaster on his personal phone and had him locate the package. This was a real can-do attitude that isn't seen everywhere these days and it reminds me of the old hometown post office. After she got to work on this, I got a call from the other post office that said they had located the package, they corrected the address and said it would arrive tomorrow. A short time later, I answered a call from Crystal in Benicia to FOLLOW-UP and let me know of the progress. I have enjoyed the Benicia post office for 15 years but I have found today that they really shine in comparison and all it took was listening, caring and having a get it done attitude. I had been to so many post offices in the Bay Area and had the same horrible experience dealing with rude employees who simply don't care about you but this one in Benicia TOPS 'EM ALL. Wow! RUDENESS GALORE! I mail a lot and now I am thinking of using FEDEX or UPS instead. A postal worker was delivering mail in the Club Pacifica Mailroom today in Benicia. He saw I had forgotten to put a stamp, after I had left, on my envelope (to the IRS). Rather then reprocessing it, which was would have made my taxes late, he went out of his way to find my appartment, so I could put propper postage on it today. Thank you Benicia Postal Workers. The postal service around here is by far the worst in recent years. Today I heard the doorbell ring so going from the second story of my house down stairs to the door(roughly 15 seconds) I open the door and no one is there. I assume that one of the neighbors kids felt like playing a prank and I shut the door. I walk into my Kitchen annoyed and look out to see the mailman. At this point i'm thinking, "Oh, maybe he has something for me." So I try to hurry out to catch him, but he left before I could. I check the mailbox in hopes he left whatever it was in the mailbox. I find a, "Sorry we missed you" notice in the mailbox. What? Seriously, if this was so important why didn't they wait a little longer at the door. Instead they ring the doorbell and expect someone to answer it in 2 seconds. They really are slacking off in patients these days. They should have a minimum 60 seconds wait before they move on. I understand they're on a time crunch and need to keep moving, but if your mailing something that requires a signature then you need to give the person at home time to answer the door. This isn't the first issue with this post office failing at delivering stuff. We've had mail lost, register mail that requires a signature and they rush off and any complaints goes in one ear and out the other. Me and my Parent have complained many time to this post office in Benicia, but they don't do anything to fix the problem. Don't even get me started about going down to the post office, one person is manning the entire front with a line of 4-5 people and it takes forever to move the line forward. If this is how the post office is going to be it would be better just just have the whole this automated. Take a package down there, use a computer to weight and pay your shipping and put it on a conveyor belt the goes to the back. Use the computer if you have a complaint, calls for the supervisor and asks you to move the the side to wait. Why man the front if the people are better off doing everything themselves. It would take a bit to setup, but I think it would streamline the whole thing. You can have a case in the front that has boxes and you put money in it and choose your size you need. Have the packing paper or bubble wrap and tape to access for free(yeah I know people may take extra, but this is the price they pay for lack of customer service). Only person who needs to be on site is a supervisor and a person or two for organizing the mail in the back. I have to leave the comfort of my house to retrieve the failed delivery, despite being home and waste time and fuel to drive down to the post office. I'll probably have to wait in line for X0 minutes and waste even more of my day I could be doing something else. Truthfully I think they should have a 5 minute wait time on anything that requires a signature before they declare no one home. What is someone was waiting on medication or something important, but was in a wheelchair, handicapped or something else along those lines. My mom can't get up easily and it takes her at least 5-10 minutes to just get up from the couch and another few minute to the door. This is why I find what they did today unacceptable by any standards. I think all signature mail should have an option online to override that requirement and you accept all consequences of doing so. Anyway I went on long enough about the post offices here in town. One other option for register mail is to not put it in with the normal mail. Have another drive who is not on a rush delivery schedule take care of these deliveries. Then this would allow more wait time for seeing if anyone is home. Sure you'd have to hire 2 more drives(2 being the number so they can have day/s off), but It would reduce this from happening again. read more

We've been having a problem with our mailman not delivering our packages for years. He frequently misplaces our mail or drops it off at the wrong house. Sometimes we get the packages back, other times we don't. Lately, we've been having even more issues with him. I ordered something online and never got the package. It was the correct address and everything, yet it said it was delivered by USPS. I looked everywhere. I waited a few days, thinking a neighbor would bring it over or it was misplaced... no package. We went to the Benicia post office to complain to the manager and she said she'd talk to the driver. She told us she'd call us back to see what happened to the package. Well, she never called us back. The next week, I was expecting a package from Amazon. Once again, the package never came, even though the tracking said it was delivered. We were home, so nobody came and stole the package off our door step because the mailman didn't even show up. Waited a few days again and nothing showed up. We went over to the post office to complain to the manager AGAIN and she promised she'd talk to the driver and give us a call about the missing packages. Nope... never called. Absolutely nothing. What a joke. So, if you expect any help from the manager here, you're out of luck. They're completely incompetent. Two packages in a row missing and others I haven't received from USPS over the years. Either someone is stealing packages at their office and inputting fake tracking information, or our mailman keeps dropping off the packages at the wrong addresses (and nobody ever has the decency to return them). If the manager would at least call us back, it wouldn't be a problem. But she never does and obviously doesn't give a care. Thankfully, I got my money back on those missing packages. It's just frustrating and a waste of time to keep losing packages all the time. For now, I'll be having my packages shipped to my dad's house, since his postman isn't incompetent like ours. read more

I wish I could leave zero stars. After waiting in line for 10 minutes, I go up to Kim who tells me I can use the automated machine to mail my international packages. I go to the machine to find out I can't mail international packages there. I wait in line another 10 minutes and I go back up to her to let her know the machine won't take international packages. She grunts, gives me no apology and with attitude, says "well I didn't know that." She then proceeds at a snail's pace to enter in the information to mail the 2 packages abroad. It took over 20 minutes. She was mad at me that the boxes were being shipped from 2 different addresses. Then I try to pay with a company card and she gets all upset that my name isn't on the card and I don't have an ID connecting me to the business. Lady, I'm keeping you in business! I'm beyond impressed with the excellent customer service I received yesterday. I was concerned a package had been stolen, as my mailbox was open and nothing was in it. I called the USPS customer service # to make a claim and was told that someone from my local USPS would call me within 2-3 business days. It was a Friday night so I wasn't expecting a call until mid next week, which is totally fine. However I received a call within an hour and they were sending someone over (ON A FRIDAY NIGHT) to come check out our mail box. The person arrived in 5 minutes and was able to locate our mail for us. It turns out I must have foolishly left my box open the last time I went in there to get mail and when that happens they put your mail in a protected box so that no one can steal it! My boyfriend and I appreciated this help SO MUCH as we had several important things in there. I'm so appreciative of this excellent service and had to write a review to show my gratitude. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. I have had this location lose three of my packages in a week. I will absolutely NO longer work with them. About a month ago, I dropped a package off and watched an older African American lady grab it. I walked off, not getting a receipt because I have a tracking number located on the box. This was a HUGE Mistake. Although I have been dropping off packages for about three years at another location I have never ever had any problems. After a week of noticing the package wasn't moving, I walked into the facility and she told me that is was .1 lbs over the weight and they had to move the package from a 2 day air to a regular mail. I said that's fine....I didn't understand why I needed to go in for this to happen. They just sat on it. The following week, I saw the same lady at the counter....I explained to her that about my situation from the prior week and had customers waiting for product and didn't want to experience the same situation. She told me the same thing, that they couldn't express it but would ship as a priority due to weight. I told her that's fine. I dropped off my two packages to her and walked off. So it's been two weeks and my packages are literally lost. I am So frustrated. I called and spoke to a man, who disregarded me. I explained to him I don't understand why this keeps happening and he said that it couldn't and he doesn't know what to tell Me. He said they never keep packages for longer than a day, which is a damn lie because the week prior they did. I don't understand what's going on here but this location is trash, they move like sloths, and are rude as hell. read more
