Visited this post office location today to submit applications for my two young children's passports. All I can say is the lady with the glasses is a very efficient and knowledgeable employee! Yes sometimes they may come off as rude but please understand they are focused on getting things done correctly. Don't take things too personal at these type of establishments. A huge plus was quick service and the parking lot was entirely empty. They have a nice garden by the entrance so the kids were able to run around while we got paperwork done. This is a small post office tucked away in the historic neighborhood of Alviso. Because it's in a quiet residential community, it's usually less busy and easy to get service, which is mainly what I'm looking for at any business. And they provide quick and efficient assistance here, to get people in and out. The postal workers are very direct and to the point. So when dealing with all of the customers who hold up the line demanding or trying to convince the staff to give them special treatment (ie. passport services without an appointment), the workers are not afraid to say, hey I already told you our policies/instructions, now step aside so I can help the next customer. I've seen this several times, and I've been going here for years to mail packages. For that reason, people may not think they are the friendliest, but at least they provide the services you need, and they don't waste your time. They also sell packaging materials the same as any other US post office, just in a smaller setting. Though the main room is small (with only 2 service windows, and sometimes only one employee), there's a lot of outdoor space, a cute courtyard with plants and seating, as well as a dedicated parking lot.  The only thing that can be problematic is the limited hours. They typically close at 4pm (earlier than other post offices), and they are closed from 12-1pm for lunch. But other than that, this is a reliable post office for all of your mailing needs. read more

The Asian lady with glasses always has a bad attitude and slack service. It's not just every once in a while it's every time you go to this location . I know they are busy but she has a lack of respect. Overall the rest of the workers are nice it just feels a little disorganized. read more

At lot of people talk about a lady he can be rude. I will say she told me that they keep track of how much time she spends with each customer. We are getting our passports two weeks after submitting. Not our first time. The lady may be particular, but she knows her stuff and I guarantee that our application was processed fast because she is good at her job. Hopefully y'all can be kind to her. read more

In the 6 years since my initial review of this location they have lost most of their seasoned staff. The postmasters who worked here for years have all since retired out or transferred elsewhere. Not only has the newer staff been incredibly rude and unhelpful the handful of times I've been here, I have also noticed we continually receive other people's mail in our box (including tax forms!). My father who had prescription meds arriving to his box had his package lost as well, despite the hospital stating things have been delivered. Since COVID they also limit access to our mailboxes which is still a problem to this day. Many of us work during their hours of operation they are open and they are only open till mid day on Saturday only. Unfortunately living in Alviso there is no other options for us to receive mail directly to our homes. read more

One of the most humble, pleasant and hospitable small town US Post Offices I've been to yet. It is odd that the garden area in front of the entrance would effect me so positively. Call me a Pollyanna (I dare you). This small post office in the historical city of Alviso is great. A small garden sits outside the entrance partially funded by the local Rotary organization. Around 9 Persian Silk Trees surround the garden an several hearty benches sit under them to provide respite and shade. The staff inside are super friendly and bilingual. Fantastic service. I was in and out in record time. Albeit, I did come at a time of day when they were less busy. read more

We went "walk in" to get Passport renewed for my daughter, All post offices in Bay Area need Appointment, we had filled online application, he did a great job to complete our process within 10 minutes. Customers/applicants ple​ase fill your online application, have photos & copies of documents fo​r expedite the process.Carry debit ca​rd, cheque or cash. Today, April 2nd, 2021, I tried to drop off 3 eBay packages here. I lived in San Jose but since i was passing by the area at around 2pm, I thought it was a good idea to drop off my prepaid packages here. What happened next was a surprise. I was told that they cannot take the prepaid packages because they "will not get credits" due to them being prepaid and I live in San Jose. I was like "mam, April's fool was yesterday. I've had a box at this location for a few years now and while it's much better than the location down the street on Lafayette, it's become a bit less accessible lately. For some reason, they've started to lock the doors after 5pm on weekdays, 1pm on Saturday, and closed all day on Sundays. What this means is that there is no access to the PO Boxes after this time, which is not just an inconvenience to some but could make it downright unusable to those who work 9-5 jobs. This location has always had a slight access "twist" as from 12noon-1pm, the services window is shut down for lunch. But this new wrinkle is a little problematic as it wasn't explained why after-hours access has been removed. The workers are nice enough though I can see how some people get their feelings hurt. It's a little baffling how unprepared some people come to the post office so they'll sometimes ask you to fix your package /fix their passport applications and then move on to someone else (like picking packages for those who received a pick up slip), and sometimes people don't like that though I've heard the say they do this to get those with a simple pick up out of the way. read more

So glad that I found this post office just by getting lost in the area with my favorite colleague during one of our micro adventure lunch breaks. It is a very interesting retro looking post office, with almost nobody there. No customers ever, tons of PO boxes and interesting location close to a senior center and a recovery (AA type) center. If you live in San Jose north but cannot stand the long lines and waiting time...this is your hidden post-office that looks like stuck in time but is efficient and fast like not other around. read more

Great location in Alviso. Was easy to get in and out. I actually bought two books of stamps and dropped one on my way out the door, after getting to my office I realized I dropped one of the books. Reluctantly went back to the post office thinking that I was going to have to buy another book, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that some good samaritan turned the book into the counter and they were waiting for me at the front desk. read more

This is our mailbox post office and passport renewal place for last 6 years. I have only good things to say about this place. It's very accessible (close to 237 exit) and has a lot of parking spots. It's a small post office. Always check if they are open before going. Mostly they serve residents on Alviso city alone. It's a post office. So don't expect a lot of hospitality. :-). If I could give 0 stars I would. The NEW postal workers here are rude and lazy. This is coming from a resident POV. Our past workers were always friendly and took their time to get to know the people in the community, they made sure surrounding businesses also were able to get their mail even if we were there 5 minutes past closing cause they knew we were working during their business hours. Today I walk in and have my yellow slip to grab my packages. I politely asked the lady if I had mail in my box if she could hand me that as well. She responded rudely and said she was super busy helping others out and couldn't. Mind you there was 1 family there getting a passport who was just signing documents and not at her counter at all. She proceeded to weirdly hug my packages like she didn't want to hand them over. I told her you know Alviso is a small community and you should definitely get to know the residents and businesses in the area maybe be a little nicer! She rudely said yeah right! That will take 17 years! Avoid sending your packages their if you can it's a inconvenience for them anyway! And they could careless about the residents in Alviso. As you can see it says that the US Post Office here is open at 9:00 am, but I'm waiting right now because on the time on the sign there says it opens at 10:00! It's a pain in the butt to get passport appointments at almost every other post office in the area. I called about a half dozen places before trying this place, and at only one other location did someone actually answer the phone - and he told me that the earliest appointments he had were nearly two months out. I finally called this place and was surprised that someone answered after just a couple rings. She explained to me the process of getting your name on the daily passport priority list starting at 9:00, followed by the actual passport appointments starting at 10:00. This morning I show up extra early because I didn't want the uncertainty of not knowing when my number would come up, especially since I needed to pull my kids out of school in order to get their passport applications processed and I didn't want to keep them out indefinitely. I got there around 8:15 and was the first in line. A couple minutes later the next person arrived. By the time 9:00 rolled around there were about a half dozen people waiting to put their names on the list. I roamed around Alviso for the next hour, enjoying this oasis of relative calm and the waterfowl in the bay. My wife and kids arrived shortly before 10. We came completely prepared - forms already completed, original citizenship and identification documents at the ready (with the required photocopies), passport photos printed. Even though the post office allows for 15 minutes for each passport acceptance, all four of us were done in just 20 minutes. Throughout the process, the postal worker was efficient and friendly, and she thanked us for doing all the tedious work in advance. So if you're looking for a quick passport application without the hassles that seem to plague the other area post offices, this place is hard to beat. But for God's sake, READ THE PASSPORT INSTRUCTIONS IN ADVANCE! Follow the instructions - ALL of the instructions - and you'll have a similarly excellent experience. read more

I have just the place for you if you like waiting in lines to be helped by someone who may one day go postal on you. Yes, it's your local neighborhood post office. We put up with so much at the post office. Slow service. Lackadaisical attitude. Posters of FBI's most famous customers. Clientele who don't mind putting a stamp on something and having it show up three days later, versus email that is there in an instant. But no...not at the Alviso post office. You enter through a garden...now when was the last time you entered a post office through a garden? Step inside, and odds are there won't be more than two people in front of you, most of the time you'll be the only one there. This has to be the ideal job for any postal clerk. I would like to make a formal complaint with the elderly lady who works there. She has been extremely unprofessional and frankly rude to myself and other customers I have witnessed her speaking with. She has lectured me on packages that arrive through fed ex dhl etc. so I had packages to my mail box and she said it's not her problem that's between me and DHL . When I asked her why she had threatened to return to sender she bold face lied to me and claims she never told me that. Regardless she actually goes out of her way to make things difficult for me and my business. She is a Grumpy elderly woman but I refuse to be lectured by a rude and unprofessional person like her. Please someone talk to her and remind her that we are paying customers and should receive good service. The other workers are pleasant but wow. Great little local post office tucked away with a big parking lot! How cute! And they had an amazing selection of stamps... It's hard to find but worth it once you do. On Friday, I placed an online order for prescription medication. By Wednesday, not having yet received it - I checked with the pharmacy and learned through tracking, the medication was delivered to the Post Office two days earlier on that Monday. I provided this information to the worker who informed me that although their records indicated the delivery made it to the Post Office, they could not explain why I had not received it. The assumption was the medication was erroneously placed in another person's box. Okay, these things happen but today - 2 days later, I go to the post office and find their is a government check addressed to someone else with an entirely different PO Box number in my mail slot. (In addition, my daughter who was with me today, and has a separate post office box also had someone else's mail in her box.) I will not go into the attitudes and customer service of the workers here as that has already been addressed by numerous others. However, with no carrier service available in Alviso, the US mail system in Alviso leaves much to be desired. read more

Ha! Rating a Post Office location. But it deserves a rating. I was in and out today in a flash. Went before Christmas and the line was, what, 4 people long! While I was getting my package prepared for mailing, I chatted with the agent and asked if he was glad the holiday rush was over. He replied, "What rush? Seriously the best kept secret ever! Close to my place and plenty of parking (almost empty when I go even during busier times). Close to the freeway. I have never waited in line here for more the five minutes. It's such a small place, the staff acknowledge you immediately and ask you what you need. Update: I received my passport in 10 days! Routine service. Yeah! Having called many passport acceptance facilities with no avail (most of them never answered the phone; a few did only to say they are fully booked), I found this place on yelp. From the recent reviews, it looks like they are not busy this time of the year. But I still arrived at 6:30am just to be sure. I was the only one there. And at 7, I was still the only one. At 7:30, the same. At 8, the same. And 9, the same! The 2nd person didn't show up until about 9:30! 10am the door opened and everyone was done by 10:30. There were less than 10 persons/families for passport that day. But from the reviews it's obvious there are times when people do have to get in line early to secure a spot. So don't take my experience for granted. The clerk was not rude but that was about it. A typical treatment I'd get from bureaucratic places such as DMV. read more

If you're looking to get your passport done quickly, this is the place! At 5:45am, I was the first person to arrive on a Wednesday morning. I wrote an unofficial sign in sheet to let people know the order of the line and to see how many spots are still available. 15 minutes later, one person came in, 30 minutes later, a family of three walked in. Note, this location only accepts 20 applications in a day. That's already a quarter of the list full. At around 8:00am the list was half full. And by 8:50, the list was full. A postal worker will start the making the official sign in sheet at exactly 9:00am. The postal worker followed the order of my sign in sheet. Make sure you are there when they makes the official list, otherwise you lose your spot. In the end, the worker will let people know the time they should come back to process their application. Processing starts at 10:00am. Worker stated that those first to fifth in line should come back before 10:00am. 6-11 at 10:30am, and so forth. Since I was first in line, the worker started processing my application at exactly 10:00am. I was out in less than 5 minutes! You will be out quick if you have everything done and ready. My last passport was issued to me before I was 16 years old, so I filled out the DS-11 form. I had my -DS-11 passport application form filled out -Driver's license -Old passport -A photocopy of my driver's license (front and back) -A photocopy of my old passport. Payment can only be done with either cash, check, or debit. 10:05am, I was out the door. TIPS: -Bring something with you while you wait. I brought my laptop with a movie to play. -Since there is an unofficial list going on, you can wait outside and relax rather than staying in a physical line. -If you trust the group of people also waiting, you can leave the post office area to grab something to eat, or use the bathroom. Make sure you return before 8:30am. -Closet bathroom I know of is the public restrooms at the Alviso Educational Center (Alviso Classroom). Bathroom open at 8:00am. read more

Most reviewers are right that this is the best post office for new passport application. I am sure there are people who came early around 6.00 am but I was lucky. I was there at 8.30 am and we got number 20 and 21. The cut off is 20 but they I decided to put my wife and my daughter name. Bring a folding chair and I prefer to sit outside while waiting. At 9.00 am, the PO staff call everyone and they use the unofficial list to call name and transfers to the official list. We got bump up the list since someone is renewing and they can mail the application. The staff will split the group into 2 and ours is from 1-3 pm. We came back at 1.30 pm and there is a short line in front of us. The process was quick and ours took 30 minutes for 1 adult and 1 child. We paid and left the place by 2.00 pm. This place is amazing and take all the stress away from making call and making appointment which is 2 months ahead. I made so many calls to country center, other post offices and they us the earlier appointment is May 30th which is crazy. Thank you Alviso US post office and you guys are our hero. read more

Update - I got the passport in 14 days without paying extra to expedite it! ********* I went today( Friday) to get my daughters passport renewed. My husband went earlier at 8.30 am and he was 5 in line. The first person was there at 7.30 am. I took my daughter and reached at 9.45 so we did not have to wait for too long. We were done at 10.40 am! There is no sign up sheet. First come first serve. So it took about 2 hrs from the time my hubby waited in line to get out of there!! So much less stress than other passport offices. Make photo copies of everything.. it cost about $3 per page if you have them do it there. Also their photo service is not working. The passport stuff was courteous. read more

If you need to get your passport application processed, this is the post office to go to!! I came in at 10a and I was done by 10:45a. This office does have a waitlist that opens at 9a. Simply walk in, put your name on the list, and wait to be called. The biggest mistake that people make is leaving the post office, thinking that it will take a while for their name to get called. Your name comes sooner than you think!! If they call your name and you're not there, they cross your name out and move on. Only 20 passports are processed each day so get there early! Also to note, they have a lunch break from 12-1p. read more

They no longer hand out numbers at 9am and they didn't look at the unofficial sign up sheet. They serve whoever is first in line when they open at 10am, so be sure to line up in order. They're really fast, it took about 10-15mins per person. I was the third person in line, I came in at 6am and I was out by 10:40. I recommend downloading movies on your laptop, bring snacks and a cushion/chair while you wait. They accept debit card and checks for payment. read more
