I first discovered Urbane because of their presence at Taste of South Lake, so I knew I had to give them a full try after having a sample. They've got a tough situation ahead, given that my all-time favorite Mendocino Farms just opened up mere steps away, but they're doing a pretty good job so far! Parking: free lot (90 minutes) behind, meters on street All their sandwiches come on focaccia bread, a nice twist on the usual sandwich fare. I wanted to try something unique-sounding, so I went with the Rustic Rosemary. The combination of julienned carrots/apples/beets worked so well with the arugula and chutney aioli, and while I'm usually not a cheese fan, the mozzarella fit in just nicely. The chicken was a tad dry, but it's hard to do white meat really well. Overall, a really good sandwich. The accompanying side salad was simple, with a balsamic olive oil vinaigrette, but it was quite nice. Definitely worth a try! read more

The best part about my first visit was the patience and knowledge the lovely lady at the register, Isaela, had to help us decide what to eat as we had specific food needs for a diet. Her pleasant personality and cheerfulness set the tone for a great experience. This was followed up by excellent service from the waiter Javier. We completely forgot to get our condiments napkins etc. he was so gracious and came back to our table several times to make sure all our needs were met. But a vegetarian sandwich that tastes so different, with everything you love, and leaves a fond memory with your tastebuds, ultimately making you crave more or wondering how the hell you can replicate this at home because you NEED TO, is rare. I ordered the Californian. Not thinking anything of it except that it would be a typical vegetarian sandwich with a side of greens, I also ordered a Organic Lentil soup of the day. First of all, you need to know that their staple item is their focaccia bread. They make this fresh daily and every sandwich you get will have the perfect focaccia bun. Anyway, the Californian sandwich has artichoke hearts, avocado, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, jack cheese, green leaf lettuce, and herb aioli. This sandwich is probably my favorite vegetarian sandwich. They DO NOT skimp on those artichoke hearts! The mix of avocado and herb aioli and sun-dried tomatoes made this so messy, but there was exploding taste in each bite! The soup was also really good! It had a little kick, which was fantastic, and it also came with a small slice of their...you guessed it...focaccia. For me, this was a lot of food...but I stuffed it all down. I can't say anything about non-vegetarian items here, but I assume it'll be harder to make an amazing non-vegetarian sandwich to compare with all the great sandwiches out there. If you're tired of eating normal garden or portobello mushroom sandwiches as a vegetarian, give this place a try. Hopefully you'll like it as much as I do! read more

This place is a great place to go for lunch on a nice sunny day. I was working in the area and had to stop somewhere so I found this gem in a nice area with many other restaurants right next to it. I chose this one as it was slightly different than my usual go to's like Panda Express or a burger. There was a Mendocino farms which I haven't had but the aesthetic/ menu looked extremely similar. I got there new and improved chimichuri sandwitch that came with a salad that looked as if it could be a very simple Chinese chicken salad. I mean it was a fitting side that I didn't even touch but nevertheless I'm sure another would enjoy it. The sandwich was flavorful and delicious! It hit the spot in the exact way I imagined it too. Fresh and delicious and filling! Previously I read reviews that it lacked flavor but I think they brought it back in a reinvented way? Nevertheless it was so good. Their home baked bread is amazing! Great healthy option in Pasadena. I work half a block away and I've never tried Urbane Cafe until now, but I'm glad I gave it a shot! It's so good and you know it's super healthy. They bake their own bread that they use for their sandwiches and it's delicious. It comes right out of the oven hot and fresh. 10/10 for the healthy ingredients and for taste! I got the Banh Mi sandwich and boy was it good! It had everything you'd expect in a Banh Mi and it had a great kick to it too. Not too spicy but just right. The sandwiches also come with a nice little salad so that's always a nice touch. One thing, however, is that the combo just seems to be missing something, like a drink perhaps. It's got a delicious sandwich and salad but it seems to just be short of something. With most of the items coming out to be around $10, sometimes you just wish you could get a little more for your money. Otherwise, think of Urbane Cafe as a cheaper but just as good Mendocino Farms! I really liked this place but this is the second time they've given me the wrong order and I probably won't be back now. I usually wouldn't mind, but I don't eat red meat whatsoever and of course, I get some sort of steak sandwich instead of the veggie Bahn mi I clearly ordered. The worst part about it is that I took it to go. By the time I got home, changed, went to eat my meal, realized the mistake and drove back to exchange it, the place was closed!!! Following hot trending restaurant was never my thing, however, I was running out of varieties for lunch, so this place had my attention briefly. The dining hall is clean and open. Ordering is easy, and food was delivered quickly on a well presented plate. The house made soda was a ted on the sweet end for my spectrum of taste buds. I diluted the mix with some pure soda, and it is yummy. Since I am vegan for health reasons, not moral reasons, I did not mind that they stack my sandwich up with dressing that may contain eggs, cheese or milk. It was delicious and perfectly portioned. Urbane Cafe has quickly become one of my go-to spots for lunch. On a street where there are endless sandwich options (literally), this restaurant actually does a pretty good job of standing out. I typically get the Rustic Rosemary Chicken Sandwich or the Southwest Chicken Sandwich. They bake their bread fresh and it's SO GOOD. I have tried a few of their soups before too and those have never been a let down. Even if you just buy a soup, you get some of their fresh baked bread to accompany it, again, SO GOOD. Urbane Cafe is pretty quick with their service and the people who work there are always so nice! So good food and good service seems like a no brainer to me! read more

I remember trying Urbane Cafe a couple of years ago on my way to Santa Barbara. My old review stated: "Come to LA, Urbane Cafe" and voila! Here we are! Urbane Cafe does a really good sandwich for a fast-casual place. This place beats Urban Plates and Panera by farrrrrrrrr. I got their chimichurri steak last time and tried it again here. It was super tasty albeit a little on the small side. I also love that their side is a fresh salad filled with non-iceberg lettuce. Their side salad is quite good on its own. My friend got their cilantro chicken salad and enjoyed it as well. Price is reasonable for the area. Parking: free easy large lot in the back. First time here and my last. I got the cilantro chicken salad. When I looked at my salad I noticed there was no chicken!!!! How do you forget to put chicken in the salad? Luckily, I was still at the restaurant and was able to go back and inform them of the missing chicken. They apologized and fixed it. As I'm eating the salad I felt it wasn't anything special and I needed more dressing to make it good. I asked for an extra dressing and was given a dressing with all this vinaigrette dressing all over the container. Wow third strike, found a big piece of plastic in my salad!!!! Oh my Urbane. I can't believe they opened up shop in Pasadena! Such a great addition to all the eateries on Lake Ave. I think I've only had Urbane once before years and years ago. I went with the turkey cranberry sandwich today and it was pretty good. I usually don't like Thanksgiving-themed sandwiches but I'm glad I went with it. Their menu kind of reminds me of Stonefire Grill but better? Sandwiches come with a side salad and run about $8-10. They also had salads, soup, and a kid's menu. Oh and nitro cold brew. Got a free warm black & white cookie for checking in. Place is clean with a parking lot specifically for Urbane/Panda customers. My first visit to Urbane Cafe was on 08/28/2108 at about 7:15PM for a order that I was picking up, that I had placed online. I went into the pickup area of the counter, and the lady was very friendly and handed me my order promptly. I had personally had the Urbane Cobb. The salad was so fresh, delicious and filling. I subbed the tomatoes with beets, and I changed the dressing to the Jalapeno Ranch Dressing. Every bite of the salad was absolutely yummy! I would definitely return again. I was very satisfied with my two visits to Urbane Cafe! The restaurant is clean, casual, and spacious; the staff is both welcoming and friendly. Both times, I ordered the ~$10 Moroccan Chicken Sandwich consisting of roasted Harissa chicken, spicy Moroccan aioli, pickled heirloom carrots, red onion and cucumber mix, mozzarella cheese, and cilantro and arugula. It had a reasonable amount of chicken and a plethora of wonderful flavors; it was one of my favorite chicken sandwiches ever! Their sandwiches also come with a house side salad of dark leafy greens, which is much better than the typical house side salad of useless romaine lettuce. I love finding worth-it casual restaurants with good and quick service such as Urbane Cafe. If I worked in the Pasadena area, this place would be one of my go-to lunch spots! read more

My husband and I were looking for a quick bite to eat and stumbled across this gem. It has good reviews and we were up to try something new. The place is located on Lake in Pasadena with tons of food options but was quite busy for 2pm on a Sunday. The decor was minimal but it was a larger than expected space. There were two bathrooms that were kept clean and a drink station with various lemonade options along with the usual fountain drinks. The Mango Lemonade was pretty tasty. The Southwest sandwich came out warm and it was very good. The ingredients tasted fresh and the best part was that it wasn't your typical deli meat that tastes like rubber. The bread is amazing and soft and oh so pillow like! We were torn between the Cilantro Torta or the Southwest and got the Southwest sandwich but then ordered the Cilantro Lime Chicken salad. We are not disappointed. Definitely give this place a try and you will not regret it. The quality of he ingredients and the taste are on point. 5 Stars This place literally just opened yesterday (May 14, 2018) but I've passed by the restaurant almost everyday since they started construction. Even though this fast casual restaurant has 15 locations (mainly in Ventura and San Diego county) I've never heard of it before. To be honest, I really wasn't expecting much because the menu was limited to just sandwiches and salads and there are already a myriad of choices in every neighborhood for this. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the food here. Granted, I only tried two of their sandwiches but they were both very good. I try to minimize or eliminate carbs during the weekdays so when I eat sandwiches, I'm pretty picky about the bread to content ratio. Even if I'm in my carb-loading phase, having too much bread always takes away from a sandwich. Urbane Cafe uses homemade focaccia bread but unlike the thick slices you see everywhere, they cut their focaccia in half as the bread slices. It almost resembles a thick pita with the airiness of focaccia. When I'm at an Italian deli and I order sammies with focaccia bread, I always have to request 1/3 to 1/2 the bread be shaved since it's too thick on a sandwich. This place does this by default! Way to maintain ratios Urbane Cafe! I tried the Peruvian and Moroccan sandwich. Both use chicken as their protein base and although the Peruvian sandwich was good (especially for those who like sweet potatoes) it's a special and I think they're currently testing it to see if it'll make their permanent menu. The Moroccan sandwich is a signature chicken sandwich with mozzarella cheese, pickled heirloom carrots, red onion, cucumber, cilantro, arugula, and aoili sauce. The veggies add that crispy texture and the pickled flavor adds a cutting and refreshing taste to the chicken. I'm definitely going to order the Moroccan again in the future. Even though I typically don't add or deduct points for service unless it's magical or horrific, the service here ran smoothly and everyone was extremely friendly. The kitchen staff churned out the food quickly and there were no issues at all from the order to the delivery of the food. You can tell these guys know what they're doing from the little things like the open concept kitchen to the purse hooks on their bar height tables and the position of the trash can near the bathroom doors (yes, you'd be surprised how many places disregard this detail). I'm glad Urbane Cafe opened as it's going to become one of the spots on my lunch rotation during the weekdays. read more

My body was craving something healthy for dinner, so I decided to order food from here for the 1st time. I ordered the salmon bowl and I also ordered the Baja bowl for my husband. I did add avocado to both of them and also ordered a fruit plate. The service was quick, and the ambience the restaurant is chill. Now back to the food. All I can say is that everything was cooked perfectly from the salmon to the whole-grain rice. The marinated kale was delicious even though I don't really like kale it also came with soy beans and yummy sweet potatoes. The Baja chicken bowl that I also had extra chicken added to it because you know he's a man. Was all so delicious with again. Everything cooked perfectly and tasty. I didn't even feel like I was depriving myself by eating something healthy, so thank you urbane Café. I am definitely going to be returning for your delicious, tasty, perfectly seasoned food.
