The food itself was 5 stars, but with a multitude of shortcomings elsewhere, there's no way I can give this review more than 4 stars despite the overall rating indicating so. I was heading out of town for the holidays, and I wanted to stop by this Urbane Cafe since I had been to three other locations, one also in San Diego County, that have all opened this past year. This location in Oceanside is a little older, opening about a couple of years ago. This Urbane Cafe is just east of Pacific Coast Plaza close to where the 5 and 78 freeways meet, but closer to the even numbered freeway. Take the Jefferson exit and head north, but make sure you turn left immediately afterwards! I missed that left turn the first time, so I had to make my way around. I came on Christmas Eve for lunch, and there was plenty of parking in front even though the lot is nowhere near as spacious as Pacific Coast Plaza. After parking my car, I made my order in the app. So far, my first entree at any Urbane Cafe location I patronize has been a salmon entree, either a bowl or a salad. I was searching for the Salmon Salad on the menu, but couldn't find it anymore! I believe it was recently removed from the menu, but luckily, they still offered the Salmon Bowl, which is now the only salmon entree on their menu. While I was placing my order of the Salmon Bowl, I noticed that the BBQ Tri Tip and Chimichurri Steak sandwiches were not available at this time; the reason wasn't clear, but I'm thinking it's because they didn't have sufficient ingredients to make these sandwiches anymore. Suddenly, the dynamics of their menu make me wonder if Urbane Cafe will no longer offer salmon at all sometime in the near future?! Hopefully not! The app estimated a 15-minute wait for the Salmon Bowl, but I came in a few minutes after I placed my order. The number above their front door didn't match the address number, so I asked an employee at the pickup counter to confirm this was the correct location. It was, and not only that, he noticed that my order was close to being done. This was about 10 minutes before my scheduled pickup time, so I was pleasantly surprised at how quick they were at preparing my order! I had just enough time to use the restroom before my order was ready, but unfortunately, the first red flag that was raised was the lack of toilet paper in the restroom! I had to use a paper towel instead and let that employee know when he handed me my order. To put this into context, there were only one or two other customers inside, nowhere near as busy as the San Marcos location when I went about four months prior. This was only just the onset of the overall lack of service, normally a strength of Urbane Cafe, but unfortunately a pain point at this location. Luckily, the Salmon Bowl was very delicious and fresh, which saves this review from being 3 stars out of 5. In fact, I'd say this was the best Salmon Bowl I had compared to the Long Beach (Exchange) and San Marcos locations. All the ingredients worked well together, even the sweet potatoes, which I'm normally not a fan of, but this location proved me wrong this time! There was a decent amount of sauce in my Salmon Bowl, and I could have used a little more. This is where things got a little aggravating because at the rear counter, they only had lids, but no cups for their hot sauces. Quite the misnomer of the name "urbane" to omit cups for their sauces! I thought about letting an employee know, but the employees there were more focused on themselves rather than the customers. I don't know what was going on at the time, but they were also careless enough to leave a weekly memo on one of their four tables inside! For a good amount of time, I was the only customer inside enjoying my meal, yet the employees were still focused on their own to-do lists, so they weren't consistent at welcoming customers who came in. None of them even checked on me, which was quite a surprise as I thought I would have kept them company on a day when they'd be off work at 3 PM. They have an outdoor patio outside, and it has more than twice as many tables as inside! However, since it was wet outside, nobody would have eaten there anyways. I got lucky there were a couple open tables for me to eat at, and that doesn't even include the table that had their weekly memo on it! Anyways, like I said, if the food wasn't as good, I would have given 3 stars out of 5 instead of 4. The focaccia bread wasn't bad, but also not as flavorful compared to the other ones I've had before. Not having cups for the hot sauces was a missed opportunity here because I could have used some for that focaccia bread! I also got a chocolate chip cookie, which was fortunately free thanks to a promo that was only valid for the Oceanside, Encinitas, and San Marcos locations up until New Years Eve. Urbane Cafe's chocolate chip cookies are must haves; however, this one, while larger, wasn't as flavorful and could have been baked a little longer.

A very good casual option that checks most boxes. i think their bowls are their best options, then their salads, then sandwiches in that order. Salads tend to be too big to eat in one sitting.. - pricing was reasonable for the quality. - unique fountain drink options and lemonades.

Parking is easy, in a good part of town, quick service, and friendly enough costumer service. I got the cafe salad, goat cheese, avocado, pears, walnuts, and chicken, and a drink for $17 The food was done fast, and It was good. The ingredients should of worked together, because they were fresh, and the balsamic it came with was good. I was told by a friend that their sandwiches are better, but I didn't love the salad at all. It was very bland and sad. Not enough goat cheese and the balsamic needed some sort of sweetness besides the pears to make it better. It was just so bland, the chicken was just boiled breast, no seasonings. Even though I didn't even finish the salad, I don't think they deserve 3 stars because it was edible just not flavorful at all so I'm giving 4, I probably ordered the wrong thing I guess

Bummed! My husband recently tried Urbane Cafe for his first time (solo) and said it was really good so I was looking forward to not having to cook tonight and trying it for myself. I ordered two of the Keto Cobb salads with no modifications or anything fancy. Upon pick up, the staff informed my husband that they ran out of eggs and only had enough egg for one salad. He said that they were apologetic and offered a different protein, however no refund was offered (nor did my husband ask). I was disappointed that the store didn't contact me to let me know they ran out of egg ahead of time, at which point I probably would've chosen a different meal altogether. Also, the focaccia bread that is meant to come with the salads was not included in the bag. The blue cheese dressing was watery with little crumbles of blue cheese at the bottom - it tasted fine but the consistency was off-putting. While the price point for the salads is pretty good for today's dining market, there was so much missing and lacking from our meals I definitely won't be racing to return.

WHAT THE ****!!??! BUG IN MY SALAD :( Haven't been here in a while because the quality was becoming hit or miss. Finally came back and get half way through my (delicious I will say) salad, and THERES A FREAKIN BUGGGG! :( At least it was dead? Idk if that makes it better or worse though honestly.... Super bummed. Almost 20$ salad in the trash :/

Burning bread as the employees ignored the counter and oven.

Been here a number of times with a great experience. However, this time, I stood at the counter for several minutes waiting to order. No acknowledgement. There were 3 employees in the store, 2 behind the counter and 1 bussing tables. And only 3 tables of customers in the entire store. I watched the focaccia bread in the oven as it was burning from lack of attention. I even called out and said hey your bread is burning and the guy behind the counter didn't seem to care. When I finally got his attention, he dumped two loaves into the trash and then came to take my order. Clearly the employees at this location need training on priorities.

Delicious healthy food! We were looking for a place for a healthy lunch and found this place on Yelp. And what a great place. The place was very clean, service was nice fast and efficient. We got 2 salad/bowls to share and the ingredients were very fresh and flavors very delicious. And the best part: feeling good after eating. Love this place! Highly recommend.

Urbane is early accessible with plenty of parking. There's plenty of seating but when i came on a Saturday night, no one was eating inside. They were preparing mostly take out. I got the Ahi tuna salad. They packaged it well. The portions were big. The tuna was seared just right. It was tender. They added homemade bread. Yum! There is nothing over 13.95 here. This place is my new favorite. Service was also very good.

Sandwiches have been my vibe lately. We ordered Urbane to be delivered to a work event (it was supposed to take 20 minutes but took over an hour). The food was great though! They have four vegetarian sandwich options - I got 'The Californian' with artichokes, avocado, sundried tomatoes, mozzarella, and lettuce. It comes with a side salad and generous amount of dressing on the side. Portions are great, I finished the whole thing and was pretty full.

Crunchy Peanut Salad

Our first time at Urbane Cafe was delightful, and we've already decided we'll pop back in when we're in the area. We were looking for a light and healthy option during the heat wave this weekend, and these flavor-packed salads did not disappoint! Quick service, friendly staff, clean and tidy indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend for a quick, light bite! We had the Keto Cobb with steak, and the Crunchy Peanut salad, both served with delicious warm focaccia.

Antioxidant salad. Also came with gluten free focaccia bread.

I've tried a good portion of the menu, and some of my favorites are the Bam Bam Burger, Jughead Burger, carne asada bowl, and the monster chili dog. The owner took our order and was incredibly friendly, helpful, and informative. He described all of the dishes and you can tell he genuinely loves his resturant and what he's doing there. At one point he mentioned that he's proud of the portions because he thinks a lot of vegan resturants tend to skimp a little. He was absolutely right to be proud. I had the French Dip and it was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've had. The stek was sliced thin and really tasty, the cheze in the sandwich was perfectly gooey (which is rare for plant based cheze), and the aujus was the real star. I've honestly had nothing like it before. It was also a really hearty portion and super filling. My wife had the Jambi sandwich -- a hash brown wafflle with fried chikun, sunflower swiss, seitan bakon between two pieces of french toast -- plus chili fries on the side. The sandwich itself was impressively big and definitely lived up to the owner's point about portions. We've both been vegan for about 10 years and always appreciate finding places doing creative food like this. We live about an hour and a half away, but we're already figuring out when we can make the trek back for another visit.

We settled on Oceanside in hopes of finding good food, as our weekend (end of Feb) had been full of a poor results. This place came up as very well rated on Yelp, as my friend and I searched for places to eat. It was a Saturday night with great weather. The red flag I should have read into was that the lone guy working that night was a one man show. He was doing it all in the front of the house. I tried to get us a table to sit outdoors but he just couldn't get to the table to clean it. After about 20 minutes he finally came and just moved all the bowls to the empty table next to it and wiped it down. When my friends finally arrived we all sat down to sticky menus that had NO descriptions. What you see on the website is exactly what they have on the menu. We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. No one in our party finished our food or took any of the leftovers home. Save yourself the trip, not worth trying the "unique foods".
