Had a fabulous time at Urban Yoga! I came for the Filipino "Halo Halo" class taught by MJ and I was not disappointed! The flow was great, very meditative, and it was really nice to be with community. A lovely way to start off my Sunday morning and the class was only $10! I will definitely be back, I really like that this studio is not heated, and oddly that it doesn't have mirrors- I feel like I am able to focus on my practice and what feels good for my body, not on trying to achieve a specific pose a certain way. It was so relaxing! One thing to note is that it was a little hard to find the studio at first, and there's lots of parking (that will be validated) but it's a short walk away. read more

I LOVE urban yoga. They treat you like family here. They have sooo many events like cacao ceremonies, sound healing, all different types of yoga classes, community days where you can experience a bunch of services they offer, they are amazing!! Shout out to Madeline Macdonald she is an angel in human form, and same with Kari who teaches ashtanga, and Dhruv who teaches Kundalini yoga. I've never done kundalini or ashtanga before until this place and kundalini is genuinely my favorite yoga practice now. All the instructors are wonderful and you will find the classes that fit best for you, but I recommend trying all kinds to find your favorite. Urban yoga has become like a sanctuary to me. read more

I took my first class yesterday, their Friday 4:30 pm Trauma-Release Yoga class. I appreciated how the studio is set up to be a full sensory experience. SMELL: I loved inhaling the minty fresh scent permeating the room TOUCH: I appreciated the cool temperature on my skin + using lots of blankets/bolsters/blocks for support, that are made available to us SIGHT: While laying down on my mat, I loved seeing billowing white cloth overhead that covers the industrial ceiling and delighting in colored lights dancing across the wall SOUND: My ears inhaled the chill music combined with a sound gong recording at different times We were led in doing poses that aligned w/ the chakras and repeated specific mantras to feel/be safe. A chill laid back hour + 15 = the best way to end a hectic week. I attended my first two classes here last weekend. I'd been looking for a yoga studio close by with decent pricing. I love this place. Marcelo was our instructor on day one and he did an amazing job! On day two I finally got to meet Amy, one of the owners and instructor. She is the sweetest person and very welcoming. The building is located behind the old Coco's building and the parking is a little hidden but they have A signs up you follow to the building. The studio and reception area is very clean and organized. They also have a little shop which I recommend you check out before or after class. The classes were small which made me less intimidated since this was my first time. Amy's class was very easy to follow and she gave very good instructions. As an RYT 200 for over a decade, I brought my husband here for a restorative yin trial class after receiving some medical diagnosis in his back and hips...from the moment we called for more info and set foot in the wellness center the energy and service was perfect. He was even offered the first-timer unlimited week package to try various instructors and classes. The desk staff showed us around to all the amenities and once in class the instructor was extremely helpful getting us set up. The class was well planned and explained well. Clean, inviting, peaceful reasonably priced and exactly what we were looking for, 10/10 recommend. read more

After trying about a dozen studios, I finally found Urban Yoga and have been coming ever since! Urban has the perfect variety of classes, dedicated teachers, offerings rooted in tradition, and many unique events for the community. It's an okay spot for yoga and a great place for community. If you live nearby and want a friendly studio to practice yoga at, I highly recommend them. Most of the teachers are friendly, and the studio manager makes a great effort to be inclusive of diverse groups of people. Most yoga studio claim to be "inclusive," but it's obvious that the studio manager and other teachers at Urban really do make a great effort to make everyone feel welcome, and not in any chauvinistic way where they merely tolerate social difference. It was always very charming to walk into the studio and see very different people sitting side by side making small talk before class began. The only thing preventing me from giving them a 4- or 5-star rating is that the yoga classes are quite generic. I wouldn't be shocked if the economics of getting people in the door is preventing them from teaching more specialized or difficult courses (and if this is the case, I do apologize), but I'd be surprised if long-time students could develop a serious yoga practice given the current curriculum. read more

Beautiful studio, vibe and people. This was my first visit today. I felt like the studio was clean and safe and well cared for. The instructor was amazing. I walked in in a crabby mood, tight and achy and in need of yoga. The instructor created a beautiful space and sequence that had my body feeling great and my mind happy, encouraged and at ease. I am also a yoga teacher (out of town) and admittedly rather picky when it comes to studios and instructors. I will admit, I haven't taken a yoga class here. I was signed up for a transcendental sound class they were holding. The staff was extremely friendly when I went into purchase my ticket for the class. I was a bit concerned because they were closed when I arrived. The door was still unlocked and upon entering and explaining that I just wanted a ticket they were more than willing to accommodate me. The staff wasn't upset at all to stay an extra few minutes to get me all set up so, I appreciated that. When I actually went in for the class I had a chance to wonder around a bit before hand and I loved seeing all of the items they had available for purchase. It seemed as though many of the items were made by local artists, or so it seemed. The class itself? Awesome! The guides, Hamid and Jill were wonderful and I really felt as though I was in a safe place where those around me were truly holding space for the class and for themselves. I would highly recommend checking out classes available here even if they're not yoga. I know I will keeping an eye out for other classes. read more

Do not buy class packages here, the studio will steal your money and not help you given the chance!! I've been taking drop-in classes, have been a monthly autopay member before, and also have brought many new students to the studio. I am also a yoga teacher myself, and have been teaching since 2013. I am so disappointed at how they treated a regular customer after Covid, and I honestly don't think I will ever return after the way they treated me after Covid, despite the studio being 1 mile from my house and my old home studio. I saved up and purchased a huge class package on Black Friday before Pandemic. I also live in Tucson and have an Airbnb in Phx, so I commute from cities. After Covid they changed their schedule. They used to offer 4ish Ashtanga + Ashtanga-inspired yoga classes a week and 1 Kundalini by my fav Kundalini teacher in the valley (Andrew Huvvee). Because they changed their schedule to 0 Ashtanga classes and 0 Kundalini and due to me being busy, re-navigating financial hardships brought on by Covid, I did not take classes when the studio re-opened. I also was not interested in taking weird, mask-required yoga classes that they had at the beginning of their opening. The studio manager named, Alona Gibson, was not nice or accommodating when she told me that I am losing my entire package because it expired in 1 year from purchase. She acted like she was being nice by extending my package for 6 months from the time they re-opened from Covid. I was unaware of this policy, and told here my story. I should have a year from the time they re-opened --not 6 months! Her excuse to Ashtanga, is she said that they just put Ashtanga back on the schedule "several weeks ago" and that they have Kundalini back now. So now they have one Ashtanga class on Monday nights and one Kundalini class (with a new teacher) on the same day. Gee thanks. And thanks for understanding and helping me. Her best help is that she could sell me another package at a discounted rate. I told her I didn't have funds for it and also the one day a week Ashtanga doesn't fit in my schedule. I am so disappointed. I will not be investing my money or trusting this studio again. This used to be my home studio and I've also bought a lots of items from their boutique. I do not recommend this studio anymore. With so many great options in the valley, you can do better!! read more

Urban Yoga is the vibiest, safest, most enlightening yoga studio in all the lands. I genuinely feel like it's a family. The instructors want you to excel at your practice and be your best yogi. The music, incense, decor, and energy is near perfect, all while maintaining a humble umbrella. Whatever you're looking for, I'm sure you'll find it there if your heart and mind are open to exploring legitimate practice. I started going to Urban Yoga about 2 months ago and ever since my first class, I felt very welcomed and invited. The classes I have been taking offers alternative poses for beginners and intermediate levels (me), which helps me go at my pace. They provide blankets, blocks, and these bigger body pillows. Each teacher has their own style and vibe so I have been enjoying rotating around instructors. Love it here at Urban Yoga so far! read more

I've been a member of Urban Yoga going on 2years now. I found Urban via Groupon and kinda couldn't let it go. They have a dynamic and varied set of instructors, hours that any boss-lady would appreciate, and are conveniently located along both the 0 Bus and light-rail stop (Central/Osborn). I mean, what's not to appreciate?! Oh!! And they ran a special at the start of last year that granted folks a 50% reduction on their membership for like 4-6 months!! I'm not staying on because of that, but my purse damn sure appreciates the help! read more

This was my first time trying yoga nidra. I didn't really realize what type of yoga it would be, have to be honest and didn't do my research. Just randomly tried something new I've never heard of. Just like most yoga studios you're required to sign a release form and give your personal information, so allow some time to do this if you're a first timer. In the studio they have a mound of blankets and blocks that will be needed for your practice. For nidra, you're basically setting up your bed so whatever you find comfortable and relaxing is encouraged. I used a few of the Mexican blankets and folded them in half to use for my body to lay on and one for each side of my arms. They also have small wash cloths for your eyes. I found myself switching sides and rolling over to get my sweet spot. The instructor for the class was welcoming and came over to our mats to introduce herself before class and also after to see if we had any questions. Nidra is really about meditation and there is no wrong way of doing it- if you fall asleep that's totally okay!! Great class if you're looking for total relaxation experience and want to take a little nap for one hour. Take some me time and connect with yourself. read more

UPDATE: I have been coming here pretty regularly since 2012 now. Wow, this place is by far my favorite! Parking: The garage is still available, though one has to get a token post yoga to get out of the garage, kinda a pain, but it's covered parking in Phoenix! Classe: I shopped around prior to joining and continuing to attend. The times of classes are excellent. That said, I wish there were more Tuesday 6pm options. The options for Tues/Thurs at 6pm don't work for me. Instructors: Having taught group exercise for years and years, I notice things. This place has incredibly caring, qualified, and helpful instructors. Most classes, the instructor walks around and introduces him or herself. Not all, but most. They also help you adjust the poses and answer questions. I have been able to experience almost every instructor's class and appreciate the unique differences each person brings. That said, one instructor did push me beyond what was comfortable and was kind of rude about it - not a fan so I just do not attend those classes again. My favorite instructors include Emily, Tara, Chelsea, Mollie, Nancy, and Jenn. But, I will attend other classes and will go when there are subs too. Workshops: Back when I had the 6 month membership, they used to allow this membership to get to attend workshops for free. So, I was the one yogi among all yoga teacher trainees. That's OK - I went to some great workshops! I have paid for a couple others and enjoyed the content. Cost: Again, I shopped around, and this studio provides high quality yoga classes for a great price. There are always specials, and that's usually when I purchase my memberships. Ambiance: This place is super friendly - not snobby at all. The management/front desk employees have always been nice. read more

I'm new to Arizona, and new to yoga, so I took advantage of the $39 new Arizona resident special that allows you to take an unlimited amount of classes for one month. So far, I've been able to take about 3 classes a week, and I am enjoying it! There are a variety of classes for every level, and an equal amount of different instructors, so you can determine which class is right for you. I am taking the restorative yoga classes since I have really bad knees, and one of the instructors, Emily Stooks, has been very welcoming and always accommodates any student who may have a physical ailment/limitation. I feel like yoga can be very intimidating for a newbie, and I don't feel anxious when I go to classes here. There's also free parking in a covered garage, which is an added benefit, because getting all relaxed, and then having to get into a 120 degree car kind of kills the whole namaste vibe. read more

The studio has a really calming and relaxing vibe and all instructors are amazing and very experienced. Urban Yoga is a great mix of what every yogi/yogini is looking for at one time or another: Great Instructors (Kate, Katie, Kat, Mary Bruce,etc.), great products, calming environment, massage therapist on-site, awesome location, and so much more. In fact, I'm attending Kate's class today at 4:30pm! I often read reviews of someone that is "trying yoga for the first-time" and can empathize with them. It is daunting to go to a new place, feel as though you are starting at the beginning and all the while, your mind CANNOT turn off (Did I lock my car? I'm hungry. I like her outfit.). Urban Yoga is a great place for a newbie or yoga practitioner with years of experience. I've only been practicing intentionally for about 3 years and continue to learn and experience it. As my yogi friends spoke I looked up yoga phoenix, and urban yoga popped up. I asked my yogi friends what they thought. I read classes restorative with Nancy popped up my friends said that is for u. I went omg I could do it every day and twice on Sunday. I was so fortunate to have Nancy that came highly recommended. I also took her figurative yoga. Again omg. I just recently started going to yoga... like 3 weeks ago lol. I'm a poor, plus size college graduate with debt up to my ears in loans and I had no where to try and pursue yoga. I stumbled upon urban yoga's FREE FLOW Fridays... at 8am with Emily and Sabrina. The class is amazing. They are fantastic. I really love starting my day with both of them AND the amazing energies from the other people in the class. (The class is always full, but never crowded) I am planning on buying the package for 5 classes in 3 months... and was hoping to continue with Friday class and try out a few others... because I'm really happy with the results of the class I would give 5+ Stars HOWEVER After an amazing class today, I asked why there were no more classes available on the schedule and found out that, due to new management... they will no longer be providing the free flow classes... essentially they will no longer provide amazing yoga work for people who cannot afford the luxury. This was so disappointing to hear. Now, I don't know the state of the business so I don't want to assume... but for people like me, who only have one day off, work two jobs, and still can't afford a membership... this was so sad to hear. This is an emotional rating. If you can afford classes, the energy is truly amazing. If not they do have a donation class on Sunday for $5... but still so disappointing. read more
