I know it's been only a few days since my last review, but I have to update now to give this place 5 stars because I came in for one of the 75 min heated yoga classes and the instructor was phenomenal. I think her name is Kristin Schneider and what an amazing class she taught! I was thoroughly challenged and learned a lot more in her class on stretches I need to figure out how to deepen. For many years, the front split stretch for me has been torture and couldn't really get to a place where I really could get a good hamstring stretch but Kristin's instruction of inching your feet forward little by little and her demo got me to a place in that stretch I have never gone before! I love her classes and have signed up for a few more of her classes. I'll definitely be back for the 75 min yoga classes! read more

**REVIEW FOR VISITOR DROP IN CLASS EXPERIENCE** I was visiting Phoenix for an extended weekend, and looking for a local yoga spot that offered to drop in classes. Luckily, I found sweatshop and can confidently say that the drop in process was so easy! They recommended I download the sweatshop app to view the schedule and show up 15 minutes early to sign up and fill out additional paperwork. So thankful I didn't have to create an account! Upon arrival, I was promptly greeted by the owner and instructor, filled out some paperwork and rented a mat for class. FYI: if you're from out of state, the drop in fee was only $15, and your first mat rental fee is waived! They also offer towels and showers - perfect set up if you're traveling and didn't bring gear. The class itself was engaging, amazing music, hardcore flow class, packed and sweaty (room is heated to 90°). 10/10 recommend this spot. It's so we'll organized, clean, and offers so much and then some. I believe they also offer spin & barre classes but didn't try that out. The teachers are great at leading challenging sequences that can also be modified to make it easier are more strenuous. Ashley, Kristin, Kandi and Bex are the yoga instructors that I normally go to, have not yet tried the spin classes or a barre session. Review of 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training : A Cautionary Experience I tried to complete Sweat Shop's 300-hour YTT with high hopes of deepening my practice and becoming a more confident teacher. While the curriculum itself had potential, my experience was significantly marred by the conduct of one instructor whose treatment of me crossed the line into bullying. From early on, this instructor berated me on several occasions and then nearly every cue I gave--publicly and repeatedly--regardless of context or tone. Her critiques went beyond constructive feedback; they became personal and demeaning attacks on me. The emotional toll was so severe that another student actually dropped out, citing the anxiety caused by witnessing how I was treated. A separate student, who knew the instructor personally, privately expressed her disbelief to me, and confirmed that this instructor had a reputation for being "mean." When I raised my concerns with the owner/head instructor, I was told we would address the issue in our next class. Unfortunately, that conversation never happened. My concerns were not taken seriously, and the situation continued unaddressed. The situation reached a strange and unsettling low point when the instructor stepped on my glasses during training. While I can't definitively speak to her intent, the timing was suspect--occurring after I had brought up her conduct to the owner. When I brought the incident up to the owner she said "I don't think it was on purpose", although she was not there to witness. I then told another teacher, who I had followed to this studio after having taken her 200 hour YTT, her response was, "You should have put them on your yoga block." I said, "I did and it was on top of my notebook too." She also simply dismissed me. I was very saddened with the lack of support. I recall that night having to drive 40 minutes on a packed interstate in Phoenix holding my glasses on my face to be able to drive. It's unfortunate, because there were valuable aspects to the program and other instructors who genuinely cared about their students' growth. However, psychological safety and respectful communication are non-negotiable in any learning environment, especially in a space meant to foster self-awareness and compassion. This program did not uphold those values consistently, and for that reason, I cannot recommend YTT at this facility in good faith. I would also like to say that I paid the tuition in full on the first day of class and did not ask for a refund (nor was it offered). I also had to pay for a new pair of glasses. read more

I love the location of this studio and the fact they offer a broad selection of workouts. You can do spin, yoga and barre. I signed up for the unlimited 2 week offer they have for first time clients and only did spin as I don't like yoga nor barre but those classes were packed so I'm guessing people love them. Spin classes were good and my favorite instructor was Aeisha who really made the studio live up to their name and made me sweat a ton with her upbeat spin class. The schedule is flexible and you can come to classes as early as 5:30 am. I love that they have showers on site in case you come to an early class and want to head straight to work. This is the first studio that I've gone to that has hair ties for us girls in the bathroom and I loved those little details. I will likely sign up for more classes soon. read more

I've been going here for about 8 months and every class is a great experience. The studio is clean and staff are friendly. I love that I can get three different workouts in one place. There are all types of instructors, some that challenge you, some that are really hands on and some that encourage you to move how you need that day. What a great studio! Awesome location, excellent space, and kind instructors. After class, E and I snuck over to watch the Suns at Huss Brewing. City living at its finest. The music is tasteful, teachers are kind and meet you where you are, and are always very friendly. Drop in prices range from $18 to $22, very reasonable. I'm so happy I found this place. I worked as a fitness instructor before Covid and have missed the studio environment. This studio is a great place to start again after a long break. This studio is a great place for beginners. I have yet to take their spin or barre classes. Hot tip: they are not doing lockers so if you bring a lot of stuff to class or like to change in studio, make sure to bring a small bag. I am usually coming from work and have bulky shoes and need to change my outfit. I will definitely bring a pair of sandals in the car so I don't have to bump my doc martens as I'm practicing. read more

I can only speak to the "spin" aspects of this studio. Facility: ok.. Most bikes work and seem tuned. Well spaced out. The sound system is pretty and seems pitchy and lacks depth/bass. Instructor mics can be spotty and difficult to hear over louder music. At times, this could speak more about the instructor than the class itself, but it felt like background gym music rather than immersive; as a studio should be. Instructors: oof... there was NO consistency or semblance of a format to follow between any of these instructors. It felt so make-shift and almost impromptu in what they would communicate or show. There was very few coaching cues and, at times, the speed and movements being "instructed" were extremely unsafe. I believe with some proper training and oversight this modality can excel in this space and community. These are simply facts. I have no personal issues or vendetta with this studio or their owners and only provide this feedback so others can be informed of my experiences and thoughts. Go into everything with an open mind and take things/people for who they are and what they show you. Always trust your instincts. read more

I've been attending "yoga flow" classes at Sweatshop on and off (because of covid) for the past 2.5 years. This studio is easily the best that I've been to, and I've been practicing yoga for about 10 years now. My skills have improved more in the 2.5 years here than the rest combined. About the studio: it's an extremely welcoming group of staff. Check-in is easy, just click your name on the iPad. The space itself is always clean; the bathrooms are stocked with common stuff you might need (such as hair ties and disinfecting wipes for your equipment). Somehow they are able to stagger the classes nicely - barre, cycle, and yoga - so that there aren't many crowds. About the class: it's an amazing class, that has options for different experience levels and difficulty in poses. The temperate of the hot studio is nice, not overdone. Plus there are fans to keep the air circulating. If you want to borrow a block, they have plenty. The flows are not your basic Sun salutations...there is variety. My favorite teachers are Kandi and Justine, but they're all wonderful (their classes mostly fit my life schedule). The studio is a little deep in the plaza and parking can sometimes be crowded depending on the time of day, so give yourself an extra minute to walk up. read more

I stopped here this morning for my daily sweat sesh! I found this spot on ClassPass and was really excited to try. The location was in the Uptown Plaza in Phoenix and it was too cool. The yogi was very kind and helpful upon arrival and thoughtful explained to me how the studio was run. The studio adhered to CDC guidelines and was very cautious about protecting themselves and their guests. The yoga class was incredible and I definitely got my stretch and sweat in. It was perfect! A friend of mine Jeremy was subbing here for a spin class and invited me to try it out. Never did spin, in fact my preferred and only way of getting cardio in my workout is to hike. Jeremy was amazing, I hope you guys bring him over often (and I don't say that because I know him, since I've never done spin). I also purchase the 2 week unlimited package and I have been coming almost every day, got Nick, Monique, Andi and also Leslie. I love all their methods and each one of them has a specific way of running a class. Nick gives lots of good easy to follow instructions and includes lots of resistance exercises with the bands, Monique is fun, energetic and great instruction giver and motivator, Andi, definitely focuses more on cardio and tough on us, and pushes us to do more ( which I think is needed once in a while especially when someone does different instructor daily) and I enjoyed her very much, and Leslie who I believe is also subbing, she is fun and puts us all to work with Greta music and incorporates a lot of hard climbing and plenty of sprint time. Very diverse instructors and all great to work out with. I want to try yoga but I'm not flexible (slap..) yes I know, I should do yoga to I become more flexible... hopefully I'll try it soon... The front desk staff are very fun to interact with and amazing, on a super busy day and in the middle of a transaction they still find a second to welcome you in and say hello. Too bad you guys are not close to where I live in north Phoenix. Also note, no spin cleats, no yoga mats, no problem, they are available to rent and at a very affordable price. I came back to Yoga after an almost 6 year sabbatical, to help with chronic pain and anxiety associated with complex PTSD. I was going to physical therapy, but bc my issues are systemic and not acute, insurance would no longer cover me, if I wasn't showing significant improvement. I stumbled on Sweatshop, it was in the same plaza as my PT was and had a great selection of classes. I try to go everyday and spend a lot of time in my yoga hammock at home when I am feeling a little restless. Here's a rundown of the yoga instructors: Ashley- she's the owner and an amazing yoga instructor. She really helps you focus on the breathing aspect, which I like. Anaiz- Her Sunday class is my favorite way to start my week! I love her vibe and music selection. Cortney- Great class with a good flow and she kept me after my first one to show me a few things I could be doing better, which I really appreciated. Kristin- The most challenging class, I could NOT do this everyday, but she always makes me work muscles I didn't even know existed! Zach- Currently on paternity leave, but with his encouragement, I always surprised myself in his class. Justin- Super knowledgeable. Candi- She subbed for a class I usually take, and I really enjoyed it! Andi- She also subbed for a class and was hilarious. I had a really good time. I know starting a new place can be really intimidating and it made me sad to see other reviews say the ppl in class weren't very friendly... this has not been my experience! I love the fact this place has yoga, barre, and spin. I have only taken the spin classes but what I love the most about it is I feel so comfortable. Many many moons ago I attended another spin studio and I felt uncomfortable and the studio seemed very "clicky". At Sweatshop on Central I do not get that vibe whatsoever. I haven't spun in a very long time and the coaches I've had so far are very nice, encouraging and engaging. The spin classes are fun and the studio is clean. I'm looking forward to taking more spin classes and trying out a yoga class too! read more

Wow! I don't know where to start with this place! I've been a member for over a month now and am so glad I signed up! First off this studio is conveniently located in uptown in a cute shopping center close by the metro station. The owner Ashley is so sweet and all the instructors are amazing my favorites are Justin, Jenny, Kristen, Ashley and Kaitlyn. I started off just taking barre but have been going to yoga lately. I tried one spin class (not my thing). If you do love spin their class is a good time (80s music and disco ball included). All the instructors are super attentive and patient with beginners. The studio is cleaned well between classes which is also nice. I've made coming to class a regular part of my routine (I'm here about 5 times a week). Im always greeted with a smiling face which really makes the place feel comfortable and homey. Im so thankful for the atmosphere and people at the sweatshop and look forward to continue my fitness/wellness journey here! read more

I have been a member here since they opened in Nov '17. The studio offers Bike (spin), Breathe (yoga), and Burn (barre) classes. Ashley owns and operates the the studio and you can catch her at the front desk or teaching yoga just about every day. The Sweatshop staff are helpful and really care about their students.The studio is very well kept and showers and storage space are available. Bike (spin)- I have taken this class a few times and it is a fun way to spend 45 minutes. You can expect a high energy workout with music+lights+disco ball. Breathe (yoga)- I practice here 4-5x a week and its some of the best damn yoga I have ever taken taught by knowledgeable, professional, caring instructors. Whether you are new to yoga or are an experienced yogi there is something for you offered here. The room is warm, not hot nor humid, and you can expect to sweat. Burn (barre)- I try to take barre at least once a week and it's a good time. I was terrified to try barre initially because I am not a dancer and I don't feel very graceful. Throw any and all thoughts like those out the window. You can expect to use props (the barre, balls, hand weights, resistance bands) for a fun 60min workout. Tips: -Download the app for your smart phone. It's convenient for viewing the schedule and signing up for classes. -Space is limited for Barre and Bike classes so sign up ahead of time and cancel at least 4 hrs before if you are unable to make it to avoid being charged a fee and to give someone else an opportunity to attend. -Yoga mats and spin shoes are available for rent. -If you don't like a particular class or instructor, try another. Every class and instructor are different. -Keep coming. The more you come the easier it gets. This is specifically for yoga but could apply to all classes. -Don't be intimidated. I had been to the studio a few times before the pandemic & I loved the space/vibe. They have great teachers & a warm, inviting staff. Last night I went to yoga for the first time in months & was so impressed by the way Sweatshop is handling our safety at this worrisome time. So I always travel to Scottsdale for barre classes and was stoked they finally have a barre class in my neighborhood! The studio is located in Uptown Plaza, my favorite plaza, When I walked in, I immediately thought the front of the studio is adorable, but I took the barre class and I felt like a sardine stuck inside a can. We were stuffed inside a room and unfortunately I was closest to the closet which didn't help the space situation. With all that said, I did enjoy the instructor a lot. She was super energetic and had a pixie haircut so it kind of was like taking a class from Tinkerbell! I don't think the class was as challenging as some I've taken at other studios, but I thought it was an adequate workout and fun for my needs. All in all, if you have personal space problems, probably best to take the barre class on a day that's not during peak hours, because other than that the class was enjoyable and the location can't be beat. I look forward to seeing how the spin and yoga classes are, too. read more

I've been going to Sweatshop for 4 months now. I had never done yoga before and was really nervous. Ashley and all of the instructors made me feel so comfortable! They taught me, adjusted my practice, and encouraged me. It's been a WONDERFUL experience. Originally, I chose this studio because the location was close to my work. Now, I enjoy all of the instructors and owner so much, I don't mind going out of my way to get there as long as I get to be in this positive environment. For me, I enjoy the yoga and barre classes most but the spin classes are great too, it's just your personal preference. I've brought my siblings, cousins, and told friends about sweatshop. I came in for a Breathe Yoga class (65 minutes) and really sweat out all those toxins! I like to use the MINDBODY app to book classes at studios all over the valley, because to me, it's more fun that way. I was happy to see they offer a variety of class and at an affordable per class rate. Plus, the class was great and I felt accomplished afterwards. I've been a practicing yogi for years now, and recently just got back into it after a break. Because of these two factors (affordability & quality), I will definitely be back to Sweatshop! I was in Phoenix for the month and purchased the unlimited pass. What a FANTASTIC experience. Barre, Yoga and Spin all in one studio. The studio is stylish and clean. The instructors are welcoming to all levels. I dialed into the yoga classes mostly and each instructor is given the flexibility to show their own style and personality. Love Courtney, Kristin and Ashley (yoga). All different and all great! Also thought Alexa was very good and challenging in Barre. I was so sore after her classes - which I rarely get sore. My boyfriend and I were in Phoenix for a weekend getaway, and saw that Sweatshop on Central was within walking distance from our AirBnB. Both of us are very active, and make it a point to incorporate fitness into our trips. We took a Bike (spin) and Burn (barre) class on 2 separate days. Both classes were great. The studio itself was very clean and welcoming. The spin room has the bikes set up in a half moon (stadium), so that everyone had a good view of Lisa (the instructor) on the podium, which was elevated. Lisa had a nice selection of music, and the 45 minute class went by quite quickly. The spin bikes themselves had SPD clips, so most people's personal spin shoes should fit into them. The burn class was one of the most challenging barre classes I've ever taken - and I've taken classes at many different studios. This is less of a dance-based barre class and more of a strength-based barre class. There were moves I had never done before, and we were definitely feeling it the next day (in a good way)! If we're ever back in Phoenix, we'll come back to this studio and also try to the Breathe (yoga) class! read more
