They have a great sandwich menu, with a big roast turkey right there on the counter that they carve for the turkey sandwiches. I have been to Uptowner Cafe twice and it was just okay. While the service is fast and relatively friendly, the food is not that good and pretty expensive. My turkey sandwich was really dry and flavorless. My bagel and cream cheese felt like a store bought bagel. Not really good tasting, but toasted well. I like that this place is down the street from my office, and is probably very well located for all of the West End people and people staying at the hotels nearby. Uptowner Cafe is not a bad choice if you are looks for eatable food. But if you are looking for something that tastes amazing, I would look elsewhere. read more

Went in for breakfast and got a bacon egg and cheese on bagel. My sandwich was okay but I've had better breakfast sandwiches. I believe it was the cheese that they used on the sandwich. Also they were very skimpy on the amount of bacon that they gave me. I'll stick to their lunch sandwiches from now on. read more

Grabbed a few pieces of grilled chicken, broccoli and a caesar salad at the small buffet near the beverages. It wasn't bad, but the chicken was dry so I doused it with caesar dressing;) I also asked one of the workers managing the front for a side of hot pepper relish and a slice of mozzarella. I often find myself here during lunch when I don't bring my own. I am slightly addicted to the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich with coleslaw on it. SO good. Try it with some avocado too (it can go on anything, right?) I haven't tried anything else yet, but I'll get around to it! They are pretty fast too, so you can bring your food back to the office in a flash if you need to. read more

What a wonderful little cafe. I'm staying next door (in the Weston Hotel). I had an egg white sandwich on whole wheat toast. The woman who made it was sweet and asked questions to make sure my order was correct. The cashier was quick and accurate. It seems like this is a family run place. They are all very sweet. Like this place. I work just by it so end up going there a lot. Typical sandwich place where they make the sandwiches fresh for you, service is good and quick. They have a small area to sit in but most people just grab and go. Everything is fresh and tasty. My favorite is the logans wrap - a great wrap with rosemary chicken mixed with tomato and balsamic sauce - delicious. Also highly recommended are the cookies and the fresh carved turkey which is always moist and tasty. Feel free to create your own sandwich with whatever is taking your fancy. Also have a salad bar type thing, which I never get but looks good. Slightly pricey for what it is, hence the 4 stars, but certainly very tasty food. read more

I really hate to post such a bad review, but after 2 years of being a loyal customer I can no longer tolerate such horrible service from the staff. The Cafe itself is nice but the people working there are just awful. My sandwiches are always thrown together, soggy and gross. That's only when I can get someone to take my order. Im a friendly familiar face, but many times I've walked in and have not been acknowledged by anyone. One time I was ignored completely by the guy wearing glasses, he's always at the register and refuses to crack a smile. I can say that Laura whom I believe is one of the owners is quite sweet and one other older gentleman, but that's not enough for me to ever want to step foot in this place again! We got the sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel (posted pictures). It was really good and the vibe was in between sit down and take away. It was very nice and the food was delicious. The iced coffee was also really good!! The woman making our breakfast sandwiches was very friendly. Wish we got to come back during our trip!! Stayed at the Fairmont hotel and was feeling under the weather just prior to having to attend a wedding and just wanted a quick ramen. Hotel recommended this cafe which has a mini grocery area and deli/cafe area. Got an instant ramen and asked if I could get hot water for it, they provided it and even set it up for me. Everyone who works here is SUPER polite and friendly. Great lil spot for snacks, drinks, sandwiches, quick breakfast sandwiches. Def recommend! read more

This is the only place in DC that I have found where you can get a freshly carved (they carve it when you order it!) Turkey sandwich during non-lunch hours. So if you craving a carving at 6:00pm, this is the place for you. They also have a nice selection of bottled juices and soda and the salad bar items look fresh. This is a corner place in Georgetown where you run in to grab a breakfast sandwich or a quick lunch. Nothing fancy. I was very pleased with the vegetable omelette. Even the wheat toast was good, although it wasn't whole wheat & I can't quite figure out whether the something on the bread was butter or oil from the grill. It was fresh, well-made, made-to-order & reasonably priced. The staff was pleasant, professional & even gave me directions to the Foggy Bottom metro station readily & with a smile. Another day, I got just a bagel with cream cheese & it's pretty hard to mess that up, although I suppose it can be done! The coffee was served from those thermoses that need to be pumped, which is the fastest way to ruin a cup of coffee. I was wary, but tried it anyway, & yep the coffee was vile. If I find myself in the neighborhood again, I would eat here again. I just won't get the coffee. read more

AVOID - ANTI CONSUMER CHOICE This place is certainly not worth your trouble. I work very nearby and already don't go here because their sandwiches are frankly overpriced and the service is inconsistent at best. Overall the sandwiches are nothing special and on par with every other random lunch sandwich place here in DC. If you're craving a sandwich in the West End go to Aroma or just hit up Subway. Another reason not to go here, the other day I went to visit a local food truck serving barbecue-fare and to my utter dismay they were packing up and leaving. Why? Simple, because the Uptowner owner came out onto the sidewalk and forced them to leave. Now I understand that as a small business owner you want to protect your business but why aren't you doing it fairly and by providing better food and service? Let's also not forget that the operators of the food trucks around DC are also equally entitled to our business and this is their livelihood as well. Let the consumers decide. Sight-seeing in D.C. can involve a lot of walking and waiting on entry to almost anything, so having a snack handy is a good idea. We were starving when we arrived at the westin so we asked the front desk where the nearest place to eat was and came here. I expected a weird sandwich and got the best fresh carved turkey sandwich ever. However, it is Uptowner Cafe's open entry to neighborhood dogs (and their owners) which makes me give Upowtowner Cafe a one star! There are very good reasons why dogs (other than service animals) are NOT allowed in places where food is prepared and served. IT IS UNSANITARY! Today a woman and her very large podd le came into the cafe! I pointed this out to the manager and all he did was smile! Cross this place off the list. I love their sandwich with fresh turkey breast and artichokes- late in the day they will substitute with sliced turkey which I don't enjoy as much.
