Discovered this gem on my first day of work in the area and was thrilled to discover they had Korean selections in addition to the traditional deli menu. The owner was extremely welcoming and patient. My colleague had never had Korean food before and he graciously went through the menu explaining what everything was. The cafe was neat, clean, and the food was hot and fresh! My colleague and I both got the Bibimbap. I got beef and she got spicy pork. Both were absolutely delicious. I don't come here too often, but I was lured in by the promise of hot chocolate on a cold day, and I thought they might have good hot chocolate since their espresso drinks were OK. I ordered my hot chocolate. I paid the three dollars. I watched in horror, and the guy poured HERSHEY'S chocolate syrup into two percent milk and heated it. "Oh no he didn't!" I yelled in my head. I don't even drink that stuff at home, much less at a cafe where I'm paying a premium! I'm never going back here. read more

There's construction going on on the building above the cafe but it's still open and a great vibe, it's little alcove makes it cozy. The atmosphere was so friendly!! They have SO many menu options, from hot/cold sandwiches, steak and cheese, paninis, bagels, Korean food (!!!), smoothies, bubble tea, desserts, and I'm still probably missing half the menu. I've been here several times the last few weeks while having to come into the office. My coworker who I've been meeting with has gotten the sandwiches, which he enjoys, while I've gotten the bibimbap each time, with different meats. It is tasty, and really hits the spot. Only mild complaint is that the eggs are a bit overdone and not runny, but that is a minor thing. Definitely worth adding into the lunch rotation if you're in the area (and helping keep it open during the pandemic) read more

This 5 star review is solely for their bulgogi bibimbap. I work in the building right next door and was happy that they would be offering Korean food and bubble tea along with their regular sandwiches and salads. I just had their bulgogi bibimbap today and it was delicious. Everything was seasoned very well and for $10.99 you get a huge portion- I was only able to eat half of mine. The staff there is also very nice and very helpful. They also offer tofu, spicy pork, and chicken as toppings if you didn't just want plain bibimbap. They also offer this in a salad form which I'll try next time I visit or the udon. read more

Review limited to Korean food only. I don't think I've ever had a sandwich here, but someone told me that had pretty good Korean food so i stopped in today for lunch. I was really happy with the bibimbap! Very fresh ingredients, meet was good, and they even had a traditional fried egg on top with a slightly runny yolk. Price was $9,99 with bilgogi, not sure on other. Other pluses, the bibimbap sauce they used had a nice thickness to it--really good flavor. Rice was very good. Meat was tasty and not fatty. Request KimChi if you want it and they give you a side. Most people were getting sandwiches and they were missing out on some cheap Korean eats. I'd say this place is comparable quality wise to some other local places, but you get a lot of the price and worth a stop in. read more

I have yet to find a deli in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia, which serves fresh deli meat, let alone Boars Head, other than Capitol Grounds. I am giving this place four stars based solely on the fact that they cut the meat AFTER you order it. The mere existence of Capitol Grounds amidst the sea of mediocrity that is the DC deli scene gives me hope in the possibility of the existence of a higher being. As a regular 9-5 employee for a few years now, I frequent DC delis and sandwich shops quite often. With the exception of Eli's Kosher Deli, Lawsons, Au Bon Pain and Corner Bakery, all the delis I have encountered in the DC area do not use fresh meat. Rather they use Subway style meat, stored frozen for weeks and thawed. It is sad when the chains are beating out the locals. Capitol Grounds serves premium Boar's Head brand cold cuts/lunch meat, whichever term you prefer. Although I have to admit I would love this place just as much even if they served fresh Dietz & Watson, which would still be a class above the other DC delis. I will readily admit that Cap. Grounds does not have the most creative sandwiches around. Although they do have decent paninis, etc. But what they lack in style they make up for with freshness and pure unadulterated quality product. read more

Very small storefront ...you might miss it with all of the construction scaffolding in front of it. I ordered the bibimbap w/beef bulgolgi. It was very good. The people inside were very friendly. There isn't a lot of space to eat inside ...but my friend and I were very fortunate to score 2 of the 3 seats at the little sit in counter. The cook came out to make sure we had enough sauce and that the food was ok. It was ...my friend ordered just beef bulgolgi ...which is just the meat, rice and salad. We both ate every bit. The portions and price are good. The food was good. I wish I had taken pictures. I would recommend this place. read more

Capitol Grounds is my default lunch option because the deli meat is always fresh and high quality (Boar's Head). The staff is friendly and efficient and you can usually get in and out of there in under 5 minutes. I'm a big fan of their paninis and wrap sandwiches (chicken salad is good, not too heavy) and their Italian sub is very good. Their specials change daily but you can usually get a great sandwich, chips and can of coke for $7.50. I have less experience with their salads and breakfast items but they seem pretty popular. CG is a nice little deli; the food is twice as good as the Potbelly next door and the line is significantly shorter. read more

WORST FOOD EVER!!!! I work right around the corner and the guys at work wanted to try something different for lunch. For some reason an employee must've picked up the menu out of the trash can where it belongs and put it on our break table. WORST MISTAKE OF OUR LIVES. Not a single one of my coworkers were able to finish our food. The spicy chicken wraps were inedible and my stomach is now in knots. I'll definitely have my plumber on speed dial later on. Another coworker got a Chipotle Chicken wrap and was literally quoted as saying "that s**t was so f***ing nasty!". The food wasn't the only thing that wasn't digestible. I tasted a smoothie that a coworker ordered and almost threw up. I asked him why he ordered a drywall dust smoothie and he informed me it was a Strawberry smoothie. In summary, this place should be shut down and the owners should be arrested for committing hate crimes. We apologize to Italian Gourmet Deli and Potbelly for wanting to try something new. There's hardly ever a line, and on the rare occasion when there is, it moves quickly. It also helps that the staff knows my usual order, so I'm in and out in a matter of minutes. Lunch is equally as good with all Boar's Head meat and a wide selection of hearty sandwiches. They offer daily specials as well, which include a drink and chips, all for under $10. This used to be my go-to work spot whenever I forgot to bring lunch. Their salads are massive (I usually went with the Greek w/Chicken or the Spa Chicken Salad) and the sandwiches were pretty good (I liked P8 and P11). This place has by far the BEST bibimbap I've ever eaten. I always get it with the beef bulgogi, but they have other meats. It's so good I go once a week. They give you such a huge portion and the veggies are so fresh! It's about $10, which is basically what any lunch in downtown DC will cost, but this actually feels worth every penny!! I've never gotten their sandwiches, but I have a few coworkers (I work about three blocks from there) who get their sandwiches all the time and rave about how fresh and tasty those ingredients are too! I keep meaning to try one of their sandwiches (the paninis look especially yummy), but every time I go I just end up wanting more bibimbap. The people who work there are so nice, it's really refreshing when someone truly appreciates your business. This is basically my corner deli because I work on K between 16th and 16th, and I couldn't be happier. It's a little more pricey than I'd like, but in all honesty, so is EVERYTHING in this city (unless you want a subway sandwich and I think they taste like paper). Anyway. I really enjoy this place, the nice man who owns it, and the variety. I'd have to disagree that the menu isn't diverse because there are at least 30 or so sandwiches to choose from. I'll be honest. I usually order the same thing every time: the grilled chicken on foccacia. But I'm happy every time. They grill the bread lightly AND the chicken, and add a little honey mustard, lettuce, tomato and avocado, which equals a lovely little lunchtime sandwich. The lettuce and tomato are always fresh, the chicken cooked nicely, and the bread is warm, soft and flavorful. Plus the honey mustard adds a nice sweetness to the saltiness of the bread and chicken. But like I said, they have other things on the menu too. I've had the cobbie a few times, which is also very good (a variation on the typical club sandwich), and my former coworker swears by the veggie foccacia. You can make your own sandwich from about 10 different choices of fresh meat, order a number of different salads, enjoy warm sandwiches, cold sandwiches, paninis etc... They also do breakfast, which can be as simple as a bagel with cream cheese (what i eat) to the breakfast sandwiches (egg, cheese, bacon, sausage, etc. on bagels, croissants, toast and english muffins). Coffee is pretty cheap and I'd give it 3+ stars out of 5. I also enjoy their beverage selection (typical fare + honest teas, juices, vitamin water, Gatorade, orangina, etc...) and their chips selection (typical fare + dirty potato chips (the brand), soy crisps, etc.). I think the three aspects I enjoy most are: 1) I never wait any more than 10 minutes (unless it's incredibly packed which I've only run into once or twice); 2) the service (friendly, upbeat, fast) which is hard to find in this town; 3) the quality of my food. Seriously, I'd probably eat here about 3 times a week if I could afford to eat out that much. tip: look for the specials (often they'll combine a sandwich with a drink and chips for a good deal) read more

I got a lox and cream cheese bagel this morning that was EXTREMELY disappointing. $5.69 for cream cheese on one side of the bagel, an under ripe slice of tomato and a half serving of lox. So, so disappointing. Grabed a Kombucha drink which was not priced but I figured it would be $2-$3 and some change. Ended up paying over $11 dollars for the drink and "lox" bagel. Also, the quality of the bagel was far from impressive. The everything bagel had about one tenth of the amount of seeds that it should. I've been here a few times for breakfast because it's convenient to my office but I won't be returning. Way too expensive for the quality of the product. read more
