Came here with friends for dinner last month. This was one of our go to places back in our college days...and our first time back in 16 years! Nothing changed...seriously...they still have the exact same menu! The Hot artichoke and Asiago cheese dip with toasted house-baked garlic beer bread was sooo good!! Just like I remember it!! However, the rest of the food that we ordered made me wonder why we ate here so often during our college days. The calamari was probably the worst dish...the pieces were overcooked, shriveled, and chewy. I had the fish and chips for dinner and it was pretty good. It's a great place to meet up with friends in the Old Market. They can accommodate large groups and have a pretty big menu selection. I used to love upstream as a kid. However I went last night before the lion King at the Orpheum end, it was very disappointing. Our server forgot our pretzels, and forgot to tell my mom they were out of sweet potato fries. This was my second time in Omaha and we decided to do a family dinner at Upstream. We arrived early to grab a drink before eating with the family, thankfully we were able to go straight to the bar (note there is an upstairs bar if downstairs is too busy). The beer selection was fantastic, I got myself a White Stout that I thoroughly enjoyed. After we took our beer upstairs to their little lounge area, as soon as we got there, a server approached and asked if we needed anything. (Super friendly). They had a few games on TV which was great for waiting and a quick beer. Once our family came in, we were sat quickly (no reservation and had 6 in our party). We ordered fried pickles and spinach and artichoke dip. The Fried pickles were good, but the artichoke dip comes with bread not chips. This is a welcome change but the bread could have portioned a bit better. With the large group, we ran out of bread quickly. For our mains, we had a couple of burgers and steak! The steak was cooked to perfection (my first Omaha Steak). After dinner we went upstairs for another drink and a few games of pool. I love the Upstream's Blonde Gouda soup and Bread. Their salads are pretty solid too, and Wednesday's at 9pm they do half price pizza and pint night. NOTE: do not deviate from these items. Ultimately the Upstream isn't a place I'd recommend anyone go for dinner. The beer, location, pool tables, rooftop patio, ample outdoor seating, general ambience... those are all good reasons to come here. The food just isn't (note it's on my 'bar' list but not my 'restaurant' list). Their specialty brews are what really keeps me coming back though (especially the winter's special Ebenezer). But during the 'off months', or when they run out of the special brew, the Wheat or Honey Raspberry (or the two mixed) always is good too. read more

First off before I get to the food...Our waitress Cory was phenomenal! I was with a total party of 9, and she was very observant making sure that our water glasses/drinks never went empty. Aside from that she was very genuine and personable. It was obvious that she does well handling larger groups of people. Much appreciated! Her service was an absolute 5 stars!! Now in regards to my food, it was very good! I ordered the Lamb Shank. It was sitting on a bed of some sort of rice that started with an R. My experience with lamb is limited but it tasted good to me. I give the food four stars because while it was good, the lamb had a completely different texture than the other times I've had lamb. It was almost flaky (and this is the first time I've experienced that) so I am unsure of if it was over cooked or not. Again, take into consideration that I am no expert when it comes to lamb. The portion size was good. I wasn't able to finish but half of my plate. The plate also comes with a butternut squash concoction on the side. We were in a snacking mood, especially for pretzels. DoorDash had delivery from Upstream so we decided to try their pub pretzels and a root beer float. Yes, it's an odd combination, but it sounded good to us. We were very disappointed in the pretzels. There was approximately a dozen donut hole-sized balls that reminded me of buckeyes from the buckeye tree. They didn't have much flavor, possibly due to no salt and the texture made me think they had been microwaved but were cooled down when we got them. There were two "dipping sauces". The smoked Gouda sauce was watery and weak; I had to look at the menu again to figure out what it was. The mustard wasn't a sauce at all, just a tablespoon of grainy Dijon mustard that needed to be spread, not dipped. Really it was a ho hum experience. The root beer float was basically melty vanilla ice cream stirred into root beer. But it tasted like it was supposed to. In hindsight, it could be that what we ordered suffered from being delivered, not consumed on site. That being said, there are enough places with pretzels that we will be trying others. read more

After a long day of summer heat and boring corporate jibber jabber, the coors light on steroids hit the spot. The food is typical bar stuff. Over saturated salt and seasoning but its not bad at all. The chicken wings were bomb. In general, I expected way too much for nebraska dining. Advice you to expect much lower cause dining in nebraska sucks... Sucks a lot!!! The guacamole burger i got was good too. I asked for no seasoning or salt (as i always do) but some lingered. The beef patty was huge. Guac was processed from a tub. The veggies... Oh man the veggies were spot on. They were sooooo goood. I had to eat the veggies separately. The dried pickles were sweet. The tomato was uber ripe and juicy. The lettuce was crispy and cold. I ordered a lemon chicken pita which came with tabouli, red pepper hummus, & curry fries. The food was excellent! Came here on the advice of a local. To be honest, it reminds me of the brew pubs you can find in many other colonial towns. The restaurant building was obviously some kind of warehouse 80 years ago, for that vintage look. Generally you'd expect a certain kind of "vintage trendiness", but in this case, there are several differences. - they give free samples. Nebraska is so loose with their liquor, it's freaking AWESOME. -they have free pool at certain times of the day. I had a chance to try several dishes tonight. Bugeater root beer (in house) - sweet, but as syrupy as A&W. Had a nice finish. Raspberry lager - to be honest I was a bit disappointed with this one. I could barely taste the raspberry, though my friend said it was really obvious. Flagship IPA - quite strong, at 6.2%. It was quite bitter (as expected), but had a nice finish. Hot wings - covered in green onions. Came with 2 sauces (Ranch and some Cheese sauce). It was spicy, and pretty well done. BBQ Chicken Pizza - nice thin crust. Can taste all the flavours. Quite good, but I was hungry after eating this one. New York (Omaha) Steak - oh wow this was good. You can order it "Pittsburgh-style" which means which they sear it (flatiron) extra hot, effectively locking in the flavour from the edges. This dish came with some creamy hash browns (came in 2 balls) that tasted like.. bacon. Awesome! As for the vegetables, it was steamed melons, broccoli, and some other plants. It was rather plain. This is my second visit here. The first visit the service was amazing, I think primarily because the barkeep was super friendly and chatted a bit even though they were pretty busy. Tonight, the service is good and I've not been without a beer more than 20 seconds, if that. However, they're not overly friendly. I tried the stroganoff this time instead of the burger and it was good. Great beef tips in it, I loved the noodles and the sauce, just too much mushroom for me. Also they were pretty big pieces too. I grew up in Omaha, so I grew up loving this place and always make a point to visit every time I'm in town. It is a nice place without being stuff or too fancy, and the food is always pretty great. We always get the Gouda beer soup, which is the main thing that brings us in every time. It's so rich and cheesy, and they serve it with this hearty brown bread that is the perfect accompaniment. We also always get the house salad, which is simple and perfect, just greens and craisins and red onions and the house basil vinagarette. We also like the fish and chips, artichoke dip, and beef stroganoff. The beer is also good, the house standards are reliable and easy drinking, and the seasonal offerings are interesting and tasty. Really enjoyed my experience at Upstream! I was passing through Omaha during a move to Colorado and decided to try this place with my mom. We both started off with beers that were brewed on site (brownie points) and of course had to get the fried pickle appetizers which were crispy and delicious. I got the NY strip steak and my mom got the ribeye steak. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and the side vegetables and potatoes only added to the meal. Our waitress was so friendly and the place is so huge with so many tables which decreases the wait time for sure. We are not from Nebraska and were here to visit family. Someone recommended this place for dinner. It had something for everyone especially my picky daughter. We were seated after a ten minute wait. Our shuttle driver from the hotel had given us coupons to try a beer or root beer. Most of us had the root beer although my in laws tried their beer option. They liked their beer but I can't speak for it since I didn't try it. The root beer was unique. It had an herbal flavor and it wasn't sweet at all, quite pleasant and refreshing. I had the tuna that was cooked perfectly. The bed of rice and vegetables were seasoned well. My mother-in-law had the fish and chips. The fish was good but the fries were a little soggy and limp. My father-in-law law had the jambalaya. He enjoyed it. My son had the beef stroganoff which was tasty. My husband had the pot roast which he liked. My daughter had mac and cheese which made her happy. For dessert we shared a caramel bread pudding. It wasn't too sweet but probably needed more caramel. It was still good. The waiter who I think said his name is Josh was very good. He was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The service was great, the restaurant was cute. If you look up on the ceiling, there are playing cards stuck up there. Apparently, they have a show with a magician on certain days. Best jambalaya I've eaten (except for the chicken strips was tough) consistency (liquid to rice ratio) was perfect, sausage and shrimp along with diced vegetables made a explosive combination. This place was pretty cool. I really liked the look and the feel inside and we wound up going to the rooftop to enjoy some Apps and drinks. I like the option to get the Beer flight since they had 4 different IPAs and I wanted to try them all. I got the hot wings which weren't my favorite but they were still alright. A couple of years ago, my boyfriend and I came to Omaha to celebrate his 28th birthday and we came here and tried their 2oz flight of all 12 of their beers. It was a busy weekend in April so the place was pretty packed and loud. This past weekend, we returned to celebrate my 30th birthday and it was a much more chill atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon in January. We each had a flight of 4 (4oz pours) for $6 each. Didn't eat but I had a beer. First I got the Malt-Balanced "suggested flight". All 4 were ok but the Afterglow White Stout was REALLY good. The atmosphere is exceptional. Located in an old warehouse building, it's spacious yet cozy. The bartender was very nice and helpful with recommendations. And amazingly, they have a full liquor bar and kitchen. I had fish and chips, I was a little apprehensive because I am very picky when it comes to this dish, and it did not disappoint! My husband had jambalaya and was happy as well.
