This place is close to the house and has really great food. We've been ordering for pickup for a while now and have only been to sit outside once. Either way the service and food has always been on point. The wings are the perfect blend of spice. My kids love the bar pie pizzas and the spousal unit raves about the shrimp and avocado. I opt for the burgers which are huge and tasty, or make a meal of the sides like the roasted mushrooms and onion rings. Went here for some drinks and appetizers so I cannot comment on the dining experience. The restaurant has a great feel and vibe. Upon walking in, the hostess was smiling and happy to see me. The bartenders were great. Happy house specials are great. I went on a Tuesday and after happy hour ended, they had more Tuesday night specials from 7-12. I ordered the tacos. You choice is chicken, pork or shrimp. I had one of each. The bartender cautioned me that they can come out all together or one at a time depending on the kitchen. I did not care. All three came out at the same time. Presentation was great and the taste was excellent. I would definitely come back for a sit down meal. My friend suggested this as a meeting spot and I absolutely loved it. First, the hostess was great. There were only a few seated guests when we arrived, however she sat us apart from the other guests. This is a rarity. For some reason, hosts always seat us right on top of others, even in empty restaurants. There definitely should be a host 101 class that they all take! The menu selection was varied and something for everyone. My friend and I both got the quinoa salad with grilled chicken. It was perfect. To celebrate my upcoming birthday, we had the doughnuts.....holy doughnut hole were these great!!! Went to this place on a whim for our regular date night. We ate outside which the weather was absolutely perfect for! Our waiter was the perfect balance of making sure we were okay at the right times and letting us enjoy ourselves. The cocktails here at clearly made with love, you can taste it in every sip! I got the berry smash mule which was delicious and my wife got the cosmo which she said was perfect, both drinks looked beautiful and tasted delightful. Things started to fall off at the appetizers. While the pork belly and and tuna tartare were scrumptious, the buffalo cauliflower were way too big and were a meal within their self. I got the bone in ribeye which was melt in your mouth good and cooked to perfection!!! My wife got the korean fried chicken which tasted very salty and looked nothing like what you'd expect. They almost seemed like chicken nuggets dipped or marinated in soy sauce. I can't speak for much of the menu, but the little bit of the menu I did try, combined with the cocktails, ambiance and service, merits 5 stars. The Unami bowl and grilled agave pork belly are all I can say "wow" to as far as the food menu, which left me yearning for more. The harissa on the Unami bowl makes the dish and the pork belly was so moist and tender - not easy to pull off. They have a fairly small draft beer selection (about 6 options), but they were easy to overlook when matched up against the cocktails. Go with the smokey Q and you won't regret it. Overall great decor and a very friendly and attentive staff. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating are both pluses. read more

GET THE STIR FRY. Alright, let's rewind. When I walked in, I was very surprised by the decor, but I loved it. It's very modern and different. The menu was eclectic as well. I'm not sure why, but we were both extremely thirsty, and the sparkling water we had hit the spot. For an appetizer, we had the steak and eggs. You can't go wrong with breakfast for dinner. For my entree, I had the stir fry with shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. You can get a smaller or larger portion. I had the larger portion and shared it, and we still had some leftovers. The menu consists of burgers, paninis, sandwiches, etc., although don't let the food options fool as you, as it's definitely upscale. There are other entree choices as well. For dessert, we had the sugared doughnuts. Be prepared for a sugar high; you've been warned. On top of this, I tried one of their fun drinks (Made from Scratch--nice winter cocktail). The names of the drinks alone sold me. My date had a secret lemonade cocktail. It's not on the menu, but it's absolutely delicious. Fun little spot for a date or meeting with a couple of friends. A little hard to find as it's part of larger shopping center, but when you do find it, you will be impressed. Upon entrance there are 2 large doors. Secret looking ones. Once they are opened you are looking at the host/hostess area and are warmly greeted. They do accept reservations (luckily since we had a party of 12). It's dimly lit and very modern. Open floor plan with a decent size bar. Bar is also surrounded by high tables. The menu is pub food with a flare...an upscale one. All I can say it's worth every penny. My wife and I were very impressed with everything (service, food and ambiance). Food: I ordered the SHORT RIB PANINI -- Pulled braised short rib, tomato jam, taleggio cheese,fresh baby arugula, sourdough bread 14.50( -and was blown away) I decided to get a salad as the side because I am fat. I also tried the CHICKEN PIBIL (3 not 4) - Yucatan style, spice rubbed & braised organic chicken, queso fresco, grilled pineapple, pickled red onion, cilantro..so flavorful...so delicious. Service: Spot on. NO complaints. Although the food took a while to come out, it's expected with a large group PLUS it all came out at the same time which is a bonus! Prices: It's upscale (presentation and prices) and worth every penny. Bonus: It's was great for our son. Dimly lit, a little background music...lulled him to sleep! The staff and kitchen have been on fire lately. Essentially delivering to guests Manhattan quality drinks and food. Quite a number of dishes and specialty cocktails were on par with ABC Kitchen. Go check them out. We've been eating here for about 5 years and this is the best of the seasonal menus and drinks to date. They've shortened the menu... Socal style tacos, concentrated meat and seafood dishes, tasty specialty cocktails really good specials. Later I got an email that said Uproot had cancelled my reservation. I emailed Open Table (who ultimately honored my reservation) and called Uproot, who told me that because we dined in the bar (which doesn't require a reservation) instead of the main dining area, they don't honor the Open Table reservation. This is a regular spot for our family, so this is an over-all review, not single visit specific. This is our go-to good nice dinner location for our family; people visiting, birthdays, celebrations, or just a really good meal after a long week. A seasonal menu that changes often, great mixed drinks and appetizers, multiple gluten-free options, fantastic service, and yummy desserts! Always enjoy the Friday happy hour. This Friday we were invited by some friend. We arrived at 5 pm and enjoyed the açaí blueberry martini, Buffalo cauliflower (nice but a bit too hot for me) the pizza (very tasty) the shrimp scampi (yummy) hummus (nice, but that's hummus) and the tasty donuts. We were having a great time catching up with our friends. Then they turned on this very loud music. People began yelling at each other because they couldn't hear. We couldn't converse anymore we asked the manager if he could lower it since most people were not enjoying it being so loud. His answer was the "owner" insisted they leave it at the high level. The service was very good. They take your coats for you before seating. My waiter was really nice. Food came out quickly. The GM asked us a few times how things were. The decor in the restaurant is pretty cool and has a nice hip feeling to it. Decent sized bar and a lot of seating. We ordered truffle fries and the wings. Both were really good. Truffle fries were super crispy and the trio sauces were good. Probably the crispest fries I have ever had without being burnt. Vanilla buffalo wings were interesting. I will preface this by saying that I have worked in the hospitality industry for many years, and am very understanding of mistakes made while staying in hotels or dining at restaurants. I honestly cannot remember the last time I felt the need to complain while dining out but tonight changed that. I have been to Uproot many times and have always enjoyed it. I ordered cod and it arrived to the table half cooked. The top was cooked through but the bottom half was raw. The server took it back to ask the chef to cook it a little longer. It was brought back and still quite undercooked. The texture was slimy and it tasted very fishy. The server offered to take it back again but by that time I had picked it apart quite a bit. I ended up having broccoli for dinner. The check was brought without any apology and the cod was charged for. It seemed as if we would not have had to pay for this inedible dish. At the least we could have been offered a complimentary drink or dessert. I then asked to speak with the manager. She was very apologetic and actually not only removed the fish but gave us a 50% discount on everything else! Completely unnecessary but very much appreciated. We once again had positive feelings about the restaurant. Unfortunately as we were leaving the table, the chef approached and began harassing us. He informed us that the fish was perfectly prepared and was served as it would be at Nobu. He was clearly angry. This was very upsetting to say the least. It was completely surreal! Unless they can find a new chef, I would never again recommend this establishment. read more

I came her for lunch with my Mom. We got there right when it opened and they seated us right away. The restaurant looked very clean and the decor is modern. The servers were friendly and accommodating. I ordered the chicken sandwich with a side salad and it was very good. The sandwich and the salad were both well seasoned. The bread had a good crunch to it, and the salad was well dressed. The portion size was fairly large. I finished it but I'm glad I didn't get the fries. That would have been too much. My mom got the shrimp with fried rice. She enjoyed the variety of vegetables and was glad that the rice wasn't greasy. We split the skillet cookie for dessert. It was delightful. I had an excellent dinner at Uproot. Definitely recommend making reservations before you go if you are looking to go on a Friday night or during the weekend. Arrived at 7pm for our reservation and the place was packed, there was not one open table. The food and drinks were excellent, I had the shrimp fried rice, which was good. The desserts on the other hand were amazing. My friend and I wanted to try everything on the dessert menu. My only complaint was the service was kind of slow. I understand that the restaurant was busy but maybe on the busier nights have more people on staff. The wait time between meals was a little long for my taste, after having appetizers and having to wait 20 minutes for my entree, I was starving by time my plate was put in front of me. New owner and this is my first time there with the new owner, Scott. This place is absolutely fantastic. I liked the old place too but the restaurant now is on a new level. We were there for a wine pairing dinner and we were blown away. The quality of the food was extraordinary. From the ambience to the presentation to the quality of the food, I was amazed. I did not expect this. Uproot rates with the best New Jersey has to offer and is up there with the finest New York restaurants as well. Extraordinary. Cant wait to return. And, we met the chef/owner Scott who is a gem. I would like to qualify this review to say that I am not related to anyone at this restaurant, do not know anyone at Uproot and have no financial interest there. Just a customer that was very very very impressed. I am saying this because when I read a review like this I usually conclude it was written by the owners mother, cousin, wife, employee or best friend (and often is). Menu reads a lot better than the execution. We ordered about 12 menu items. The bao buns were the highlight, but the shrimp tostone was dry and overcooked. Everything else was "good," but all dishes lacked salt and acid. The service was the low point. The entire staff are far too young and inexperienced to handle the menu and price point. Our main server was at best disinterested, and at times just plain rude. One of the entrees was lagging way behind, and when we asked if it was coming soon, he replied, "Don't worry about it" and walked away. Definitely not an acceptable answer to that question. read more
