maggie's is a great hidden gem. i have seen it my whole life but never went until one night. the ambiance is great and i was honestly very surprised at how nice it is. it is simple but spacious, and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. they have live bands that play, and the place is actually really big. i never realized it was like that. the pricing and drinks are great too. i would recommend it for a quick stop or even as a place to end your night. read more

Love this place!! So frm the next town grew up around here and the place hasn't changed. The vibe is still good. Everything is a cash bar, which is excellent, but the food is still phenomenal especially the jerk chicken wings at this point. It's a classic staple of this whole Pub. My dad doesn't even drink but will send me here just for these chicken wings and I always get extra. It's definitely a vibe. read more

Omg I stumbled across this place going to Costco! It was rush hour so I figured why not grab a bite. A order of wings and fries is much better than bumper to bumper gridlock. LET ME TELL YOU I'm so Glad I stopped at this pub!!!!!!!!! The owner and a few regulars greeted me like we grew up together! They told me they had the best beer and wings! 10$ For a 6 pc buffalo hot with blue cheese and carrots and celery! The best money I have spent on wings in a while! Maggie Murray's Pub House is a good feel Irish pub located across the street from the Dunellen Hotel. Parking is on the streets. My friend Bob Lanza Blues Band played Saturday night. They have played here several times now. This is a fun bar, people dance and know how to have a good time. All the bartenders are very friendly and nice. They saw my friend looked dehydrated and gave her water, very unusual. Drinks are reasonability priced compared to other bars 10 minutes away. The Guinness is on tap and poured correctly.. Weekdays between 4-7 is happy hour. Tuesday they have pool leagues. Wednesday nights they have open mic, for anyone who wishes to get up and play. Friday nights there is a DJ, and on Saturday's they have a live band. Sunday afternoon they have a jazz jam. The food here isn't fancy but pretty good. They have the usual appetizers like fries, plain or with cheese , or cheese and chili, onion rings , poppers , mozzarella sticks , periogies , burgers, wraps, sandwiches, cheese steaks ,salads, pizza, and chicken. The prices are really good. They even have a popcorn machine that makes fresh popcorn the bartenders serve it at the bar. They sell package goods so if you decide to go to another restaurant that's byob you can purchase it here and take it out. There is a good mixture of ages from 20's thru 60's . By chance stopped by this place while I waited for my dinner order from next doors Plant Chicken. It was a Tuesday night and the place was pretty empty but it was a cool vibe with plenty of large TV scans spread throughout the place. I ordered a $3 Sam Adams Octoberfest which hit the spot. Will be back for a longer stay. read more

Pics of food here looked good, and pub sounded great. Wife and I walk in around 9 on a Saturday and we see a sign for live music. No tables and a packed bar with a 50 and over crowd. Knowing we weren't eating, I just wanted to go to the bathroom and have a beer. Never even made it to the bar because the band that was set up was blocking the entrance to the bathroom. A real surprise as it has been some time since our last visit and since the change in ownership. Visited the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day and were treated to Irish Step Dancers, a local Irish band, well executed Irish fare, all topped off by a bag piper and plenty of Guinness and other beer. Food exceeded typical bar fare with tender corned beef and cabbage and tasty Shepard's pie. Corned beef sandwich was also delicious. Bar is located in a large high ceilinged room surrounded by a number of huge TV screens playing sporting events. There is an Internet based juke box with thousands of tunes that kept the atmosphere lively ahead of the band's performance. There is a large room in the back with tables that is available for overflow if the bar gets crowded. Easy walk from the Dunellen train station. Clientele is a nice mix of young and older folks out for a good time. We plan to go back for the Sunday jazz bands that play in the back room. read more

Loved this place the first two times I went. Great atmosphere without the drama and drunken nonsense of teenie boppers. That is until my third visit. Bar tending staff didn't look familiar, then again I'm not a regular by any definition. Ordered a round of drinks and we were enjoying the live music. An older gentleman sitting near us decided to strike up convo with me. He was definitely drunk, speech was heavily slurred. Bartender even spoke with him frequently so she would have already recognized how intoxicated he was. At least a decent bartender would know when to cut someone off. No worries-- harmless. We order another round, I've barely had 3 sips of my beer and he knocks it over, spilling my beer all over the bar and one of my friends. When we finally caught the bartender's attn, she was rude to us as if we were the ones who made the mess. She hands us two square drink napkins, not sure what the heck she thinks that's gonna do? So we ask for more and she slams a wad of more small drink Napkins at us. Sorry-- we might not be regulars but at least call ur drunk patrons for what they are. We at least bothered to clean up the mess he made. Will take my money elsewhere Bc clearly this place made us feel unwelcome. read more

Great neighborhood bar with excellent live music. Food is bar food, but very well done. Staff is friendly and efficient. There's an open mic on Wednesday nights, used to be Jazz and R&B, now more of a blues jam. Weekends feature live music with a variety of great local bands. There's a really nice back room that doesn't see much use, except for the jazz jam there on Sundays. Not a lot of seating, just around the bar, no tables in the main room. If you're coming to see a popular band, arrive early if you want a seat. read more

We moved to Dunellen last year and have been looking for a cool place, close to home to have a good time at. Been to most of the local places in Dunellen and Middlesex and they all had this "locals only" kinda feel to them. First time at Maggie Murray's was this Friday. This place is really cool. Everyone in this Pub made us feel welcome, not like a couple of the other local joints where everyone was either flat out rude or just ignorant or something. Food was awesome. I had Chicken Francese and the wife had the Chicken Ceaser Salad. Better than most Diners and restaurants I've had it at. Bartenders were hot! LOL. DJ started a little late but kept the place amped up. We made a lot of new friends, had an awesome time and we are definitely coming back and recommending it to all our friends and work buddies as well. What a surprise !!! 5 friends walked into Maggie's for a happy hour cocktail and some chow and discovered a gem. We were a little apprehensive at first as the place is a bit dated ,but this is truly an example of don't judge a book by the cover. We had burgers, wings ,and chicken sandwich. Everything was cooked to order and quite a value for the $ Delicious bar fare. The owner Peggy came out and introduced herself , she mentioned live music was coming at 8pm and it was going to be a real treat, an open mic of sorts . She was very nice and we thought we would stick around and check out a song or two. It turned out to be our second big surprise as the talent pool of artists and how tight the jam sessions were incredible. The mix of Jazz and occasional pop tune kept us out hours longer than intended. Very nice crowd of people that enjoy live music. We will be back for sure. read more

Stopped here Saturday night and was really impressed. I was really surprised as the night went on the place got a good vibe going with younger and older patrons., Drinks are reasonably priced as is the food although I can't speak to the quality of the latter since I haven't had their food. Definitely won't be back. Me and some friends went out to see our friend's band Space Load and we were really disappointed in this place. Drinks weren't very good at all and the bar tender was super rude for like no reason at all. We ordered some wings and they were like chewing beef jerky. A definite thumbs down. Been to Maggie Murray's Pub House several months ago and had a really great time both times me and the wife ventured out with some friends. Bar is a convenient short walk from the house and we discovered it one Friday night due to the large crowd out front. We ordinarily would have gone to the Dunellen Hotel but this place looked really exciting and wasn't what we expected at all. Very close to a very hip, trendy night spot you would find in the city. DJ, incredibly attractive bar tender, and unbelievably good food. The food was surprisingly well above anything I would have expected to get in a place like this. Had one of the best burgers I've had in recent memory there. The wife had the Caesar salad and our friends had some wings. Everything really good, which is why we were so surprised when we went back and had the exact opposite experience the last two times we were there recently. Maybe it is because we went on a different night, or a Saturday night, or perhaps their staff is seasonal, or it's just different people working there on different days, or a different staff all together? I don't know, however, these were not the same people that were there the last couple times we visited on a Friday night, and our bartender appeared aggravated that we were ordering cocktails, or any drink at all for that matter that wasn't being served in a bottle. Throwing empty bottles into a bin as hard as physically possible by a 90 pound girl seems to be the preferred method of discarding them here. I can't remember her name, it was an Ann or Amanda or something, all I can remember is it started with an A as it was she wasn't very remarkable, and left a bad impression. I do remember the constant bottle smashing sound effect that would make people jump a little off their seat while we were there. I ordered an old fashioned, and the first remark I can recall was "We don't make those here" which was really confusing seeing how there was only one person behind the bar at the time, it was confusing as to who "we" quit necessarily was. Not to mention when we had been there before there was a very attractive bar tender who made our drinks with due diligence and they were rather good. This girl was neither attractive (very unpleasant on the eyes) nor a real bar tender for that matter, and apparently depressed or something of the sort but she did not appear to be enjoying her craft as it was apparent she must be a novice, and not very concerned with customer service or the quality of the drinks that were being served. We made the mistake of ordering food on this evening as it became painfully apparent once our food finally did arrive. The young lady who brought it out was very lovely and pleasant unlike the girl behind the bar who became very visibly agitated once we informed her that our food had been burnt. Not a little over cooked, visibly burnt. Burger was supposed to be medium, yet was a very crispy hockey puck of well done served with burnt roll and cold French Fries. I don't know what kind of salad my wife and her friend ordered but apparently the vegetable of the day was onions. Apparently the cook was informed and we could hear him telling the bartender that "they must be crazy" Not the typical response one would expect when the food you ordered had been disastrously prepared and quit remarkably so. Is this a family run business? The bartender and cook appeared to be related? Brother and sister perhaps? They looked alike. They were staring though, and made us feel very uncomfortable and we decided to just pay and leave, and most likely stick to the hotel from now on. We desperately wanted that same experience we had those couple of Friday nights we had gone before but it seems the place has changed the staff or the management or something. read more
