There's a consistent schedule of live bands playing, and they never have a cover charge. Affordable drinks prices. Moderately priced food, this place is mainly good for the basics like wings, pizza & fried appetizers. Super casual spot for a night time hangout - just be prepared for the music to be *very loud* if you sit indoors during a rock band. Each food item on our bill also came out to a few dollars more than the prices on their website menu (i.e. got charged $19.95 for the Sampler Platter appetizer, when the online menu says $16.95, and got charged $13.95 for the dozen wings when online menu says $11.95). Didn't notice this until the next day, and we can't remember if the printed menu pricing in-person was correct & matches the receipt, or if it was also lower prices that match the online menu (which would be disappointing). Great Dive - Round Bar - Cool Bartenders Stopped in and you come to realize that this is a the restaurant/bar, personable, clean and friendly. Oh yea, and the food, excellent. Pizza, onion soup, hamburgers, even Prime Rib, a variety that says, glad I stopped in. Looking for entertainment or dart games, you found it. It is so a locals bar. The bartenders are wonderful. We had shots with them and you can tell they want the patrons to have good time. We met several nice people who were looking for people to hang out with. We accommodated, of course. I was only at Tim Kerwin's Tavern to check out a band, so I cannot say anything about their food or dining options, but overall as a bar, this was definitely a cool enough place. The staff was extremely friendly and professional and the crowd all seemed to be having a great time listening to the band. The vibe of this place is like countless bars not only across New Jersey, but across the United Tates. It definitely has that neighborhood dive bar vibe pretty much down. I do not mean that in any kind of disparaging way. I love a dive bar vibe. Plus, live music is always a plus. 5 stars in the dive bar category! Large round comfortable bar. Tables set off from the bar by iron railings. Most of the night was handled by someone who I think was the owners son and a lady who knew how to handle a crowd. We ate a chicken wrap and bbq pork bites. Both were delicious. About 20 beers on tap. We came to listen to live music which we enjoyed very much. Enough TVs to watch the game from the bar and clean bathrooms rounded out an outstanding dive bar experience. My friends came here for a birthday party. As a vegan, I was very disappointed in the menu but it honestly is typical of an Irish pub. Stopped in on St. Patrick's Day for some traditional food for takeout. Generous portion of corned beef and wedge of cabbage with boiled potatoes and steamed carrots. All perfectly done and delicious. Will go back soon for a beer and to try the fish & chips. read more

Tim has most of his family in and out waiting, cooking, & tending bar when they are around, back home from school and work along with his usual wait staff. Food is fresh and delicious. Lots of beer on tap, from traditional Irish brews to a terrific selection of local and IPA's and the good old standards. Always have great affordable specials. Sandwich's are wonderful, great soups, and their famous chicken pot pie melts in your mouth. Then we have the High Holy Week of St. Patrick's Day, best corned beef & cabbage hands down in the area, in years & years have never been disappointed. Always serves traditional Irish fair, reubens, shepherds pie, strews, Irish clubs and more. I love the history here and looking at all the photos and memorabilia decorating the walls. I know people who have been coming to Kerwin's since the 1960s! This is a great place to play darts and it has at least four dart machines and has Luck of the Draws and dart league. They have an electronic jukebox too. There's usually an energetic crowd here. This is definitely a dive style bar, but let me say it's a fun place especially on St. Paddy's Day. It's a very unique setting because the bands play behind a long bar. There's another large car in the middle of the room. If it's a single person playing music then they will sing on a platform in the middle of the large bar..On both sides of the bar there are tables... I've been here several times to see bands and always had a good time... The food is a mixture of pub style food wings, chicken fingers, fries, burgers, ribs along with steak, sandwiches, and salads.. My friend and I split the corned beef and cabbage dinner along with the fish n chips dinner.. Both were very good... The portions are a nice size, they don't skimp... What I like about Tim Kerwins is they serve food pretty late. It was 11p and food was being ordered and served... This bar is family run... Many of the bartenders are related. They really work hand in hand with one another... During the week there is always happy hour and specials... If u like darts they have that too.. Outside there is an outdoor patio with tables and chairs. People eat out here and smoke... What was really nice to see was a very clean modern bathroom. I didn't expect this at all...everything was updated ... The people who come here are very friendly. They get a lot of regulars...especially a woman named Janet... Welcome to a nice addition to the central NJ dive crawl. I was sold at $2 daily domestic pints until 8pm, hitting category #1 of my unwritten dive check list nicely. Dated look and feel will become abundantly clear from parking lot to entrance. Now if your gut reaction is to bolt, remember that's a good thing in the world of diveyhood. Expect a few stares and an immediate drunken patron conversation within 2 to 5 mins after propping upon a stool. Where's my anti bacterial gel should enter your mind. Ice in the urinals. Yep if all checks are accomplished you've reached an acceptable dive institution. The bonus here is the food which is your basic pub grub is fairly decent and of course priced well. The "sloppy Joe" is a triple decker $8 with ham, turkey, swiss and slaw on rye with russian dressing, was ample and made to satisfy. DIVE bar it is. Went for a few beers & sandwich. The taylor ham & cheese was horrible. The taylor ham was overcooked & the sandwich , at most, had 2 slices of cheese. I should have thrown it out. There were about 6 people at the bar. 3 guys, who were together, were very loud, burping out loud, and the barmaid & barback were engaging these 3 obnoxious, loud, and very inconsiderate customers. A nice dark place, lots of seating and a large horseshoe shaped bar. The bartender was a little inattentive and didn't look like he wanted to be there serving paying customers, but it's just that kind of place I guess. Enjoyed $2 PBR drafts and a BLT & kid's chicken finger meal. It's not $2 for all domestics- Yuengling was $4. We came on a rainy, sleepy Wednesday for happy hr and left before the free juke box night started at 9pm. The place seemed to be getting a little more crowded when we left. Bar is located in Middlesex right up the street from a few other Dunellen bars. The place itself does have ample parking . Many would consider this a Dive bar and I suppose I agree. However dive bars are great when that what your in the mood for. A good dive bar has cheap shots, cold beer , entertaining locals and a jukebox and in my opinion they have that covered ( with a bonus of 2 dart boards). I have been to this place a few times solely for late night drinks with friends and this is the only place that closest to 2am. Zupkos up the street would be my first choice because they have very nice bartenders there.Tim Kerns staff is a HUGE hit or miss. First time I have been here and I will absolutely go back. I went to see a friend of mine play there on Friday night. I decided to order the shrimp in the basket thinking it would be like all the others. Boy was I wrong. The food came out hot and fresh and they gave you plenty of shrimp. We saw the sign out front advertising prime rib, I am always looking for a good prime rib. This is not the place to go for prime rib. I cut, from different parts of this "prime rib" four different places before I gave up, my shoe would have been more tender. Started with French onion soup, zero flavor, after maybe five spoons of the soup the waitress came and asked if we wanted our dinners or she could put them on the top of the oven. We decide to take them. A green salad came with the meal, after I have given up on the "prime rib" the waitress came to the table with the salad and a "to go" box, said "they rush me too much and I did not bring out your salad, you can take it home." I will say the baked potato was worth the trip, perfect. read more

You must try the food here! No kidding, the filet is to die for and under $15 - just amazing! All of their food is great but you wouldn't get that idea from the outdated dark insides but I highly recommend it. The bartenders are sarcastic but stay on their toes and remember your drinks the way you like 'em. Not a huge selection of beers on tap and don't order the Coke Cola it's often flat but does go well with the Rum. The food is reasonable priced and awesome, can't be beat. Outdoor seating is where it's at including a flat screen tv so you don't miss out on the sports. The inside also has several large flat screens but there is a delay of a couple of seconds that makes watching the same game on both TV's quite annoying. (One side of the bar has the play before you do). This bar is like Cheers except there's about 100 Norms. Don't expect to find a crowd under 30 partying it up except for a couple of cliques on Friday & Saturday nights. Biggest hit is Rich Meyer and Dancing Francine - don't miss them. Karaoke on Thursday nights has a small but drunk and fun crowd however the accoustics may turn off the hard core karaoke singer. Package goods and take out are also offered. When I'm in the neighborhood, I always try to stop by Kerwin's. I have never eaten here. I have been here when there is a band and it's a fun crowd. Happy hour here is a good time, lots of blue color guys. Everyone here is super friendly and always great me kindly. I maybe come here four times a year, and believe me the people do remember who you are. This is a true neighborhood bar room. First, let me say I sometimes expect the moon and I wind up with Pittsburgh, or in this case, Tim Kerwin's typical dive bar. My good friend Benny K. and I had a hankering for a cool brew and to watch the first game of opening day, and, being in Piscataway, NJ we googled what was near by and of course the map machine pointed us to this local joint. Very nondescript exterior, yet inside, it was a cavalcade of local townieness gone unchecked. First, they had about 3 t.v.s and all were showing Nascar. Mind you, I am no snob, but how many times can I watch a car turn left? Our barmaid was ind and told us what was on draft. They allow free samples for drafts, which is nice. After making our beer selection, we asked to watch the opening day game, and of course, upon the fourth request, she found it...shazaam! The beer selection was better than expected in this oasis. The barmaid was good with the routine check on us, although she did pour me the wrong beer once, hmm, honey, I don't do IPAs!. Yet, the real charm lay with the clientele. There was of course the electro dart boys who came in, and requested that we change the baseball game, hmm, quite rude. Then of course, the boyish boy who looked like he was 12 and was getting served. I thought he was someone's kid at first, then he was doing shots and oh my, how I was an old fuddy duddy misjudging the youth of today. The plus side was an attentive staff, friendly bar flies and cheap beer. The downside was the food. It's been over 24 hours and my body is still referencing that casadia (if you know what I mean). Oh, and no valet parking...unreal in this day and age. Typical bar atmosphere with a nice variety of beer on tap. However, the waitress/bartender was as rude as could be. She came over and asked if there was anything we needed. My friend asked for the specials. She scoffed and replied with, "This is Tim Kerwin's..." Meanwhile the menu's cover says, "Ask for today's blackboard specials!" Strike 1 with the attitude. She comes back to take our order and I ordered the platter with fries because it says choice of potato. She again scoffs and goes, "You want fries like, what...? Instead of spaghetti?" so I pointed out it said choice of potato and that's what I'd like. She then came back and said, "It's fries or spaghetti. Pick one." Strike 2 My friend ordered a buffalo chicken wrap (that came out cold) with extra bleu cheese on the side. She responded, "What, you want a piece of cheese on the side or...?" To which my friend responded, "No. I'd like some extra bleu cheese dressing to dip my wrap in." And she made some kind of noise and walked away. Good price, decent food, horrible service. Strike 3. Excellent neighborhood bar like the ones in Northern NY on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. I eat lunch and /or dinner here once / twice a week. Food is very good, plentiful and I never fail to meet someone new and have an interesting conversation. Always a friendly crowd. Good service. Love the Trivia Night, even though it's usually a humbling experience. Trivia is fun with bringing a team of smart friends and busting on the neighboring tables. The food is great! REALLY GREAT! Most of the wait staff is great too! So, why only two stars?? Because they nickel and dime you to death for water and soda. Here's the story: My husband and I spent 6 hours there eating and drinking to celebrate his birthday. Our bill for food and alcohol was over $130. Towards the end of the night, I asked for water. $3 they charged for water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And when the bill came, even though there was over $70 worth of booze on the bill, come to find out they charged for each of the sodas our designated driver drank. Starting coming here for the past 6 months or so. I have to say if you are looking for great food and a large selection of beer with a friendly crowd then this is a perfect bar for you. They do trivia nights on Tuesdays which is always fun to attend after work and test your trivia knowledge. They also have lots of live entertainment which is also very good. Usually a good mix of old and newer hits being played. The interior of the bar gives you a very warm and friendly feel, as well. Overall, this is an excellent bar and always shows a good time, I would and am highly recommending it to anyone who is looking to try a new bar with great food. read more
