Went here right at opening on a weekend. It smelled amazing as they were working on getting their pastries set out. I had a soy latte and the hubby got a drip coffee. There is a lot more seating than I expected. The real star was the glazed croissant. We plan to get a dozen the next time we have guests in town. read more

What a cool little coffee shop. The staff is terrific here. They are able to make suggestions on what to try, and were very accommodating about requests for my coffee drink. The space can get loud as it has lots of hard surfaces, so maybe would not be the best place for a quiet conversation or deep concentration. The little donuts in the case looked delicious, and they have a nice variety of lunch items that I am eager to go back and try. read more

I've been to the one downtown (which is OK) so I decided to check out the Upper Cup while I was in the area out here. The drinks are pretty similar, but I will say this location is nice because it is a lot less rowdy than the one downtown. It's also in a much nicer area. It's also nice since the suburbs of Columbus don't always have the best or most artisan, small coffee shops so it's great to see that Upper Cup is bringing their drinks out of downtown! As for the drinks, they're pretty good--pretty standard. I like that Upper Cup roasts their own beans. As for the options, they don't really have a lot of exciting options for drinks. It's a very limited menu for pourovers and espresso drinks. I also wish there were more food options. They only have donuts at this location (which I hope to try sometime), but besides that, there's not much more. It's a great study space--super simple, not much to it. If you're going for good coffee, I would recommend stopping by across the street on the way out to Blank Slate Coffee which serves Mission Coffee's beans. read more

I usually stop by Upper when I'm near creekside. Today I asked the lady taking my order how the Ethiopian coffee was. She said "all the coffees are good". Her attitude was so nasty. I've never encountered such terrible answer. I ordered a sandwich, and I asked for a mustard or ketchup. They said they had mustard. I come back to get it. He says he is charging me. I refused and they threw it out. Ridiculous. I mean I come out to get a coffee before a long day and I have to deal with such nonsense. I would not be coming back when that lady is there. She was awful. Yuck attitude. I rather go across the street to blanks. read more

Nice little hidden gem in downtown Gahanna, right next to the parking garage! I went pretty early in the morning with no issues as far as being served in a timely manner. The owners are really nice! I got a chai and one of their donuts. The chai was really good!! Donuts are good but not sure they are worth the price. Probably wouldn't return for a donut but definitely for another chai or a cup of coffee! read more

Well I was not overly pleased with the tippy hipster crowd atmosphere; not my thing. The food, is my thing. Nice menu with tasty treats and variety of foods well priced. Specialty coffees again I think it is well priced. If your a trendy person who likes free WiFi and a place to hang, this is for you. If you want to grab a sandwich and go, this is for you. If you want Starbucks type over roasted and over priced coffee and hard crunchy breadsticks, don't. I am not a donut eater but they looked tasty. Good visual. read more

I've only tried the cronuts, but oh yum. They're smaller than most, but only $1 each. My only negative was that I called to see if they had run out, and no one answered, so I went, and they had indeed run out, and when I mentioned calling he just casually said "oh our phone hasn't worked for a while". I hate to give a negative review of a local coffee shop, but I have been here twice and both times the staff was very rude. They acted bothered that we showed up to get coffee. The coffee was burnt both times and the atmosphere is very poor for the nice area it is in. I'm sorry but this place really needs some help! read more

I ordered an iced coffee and really enjoyed the way it was prepared. The Kenyan roast was prepared in a pour over style with hot water and then chilled over ice in the cup below. It's an iced coffee technique I have never seen before and was really impressed! read more

In LOOOOOOOVE with this second, huge location in Gahanna! Right near the creek side, so I'm a popping place with plenty of traffic! The owner, Sam, is an amazing person who truly supports various efforts around the community. There is a real craft to each beverage, and you can tell they take pride in their art. Can't rave about this place enough! Be sure to check out the awesome artwork around the cafe! read more

Really, really great coffee. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of coffee. I ordered a iced coffee and was asked which type of beans I wanted. I have never had a coffee shop ask me this, but I LOVE the fact that I got to pick!! The donuts also looked and smelled delicious, but I did not order one. I definitely will be back! While I had a delicious chai iced tea our barista did not grant my friend's request for almond milk(she even corrected him when he said with whole milk, so he was told twice). She has an allergic reaction to milk and we had to cut our visit short because of the barista giving her a tea with whole milk. I've been here before and had a better experience but it was as not as busy. However coffee shops are usually busy and if you can't keep it straight it could lead to a life threatening allergic reaction for someone that would be tragic! I cannot grant more stars than 2. Though I have had excellent service here before and the coffee and teas are delicious food sensitivities and allergies need to be taken seriously and that alarms me. read more

I love this little, no frills coffee shop! The selection and quality of the coffee is great. One reviewer referred to it being hipster but I think it depends when you visit. I am a 67 year old grandma and I felt quite comfortable having my coffee there. Even better, it is right at Creekside, so you can take your coffee outside and enjoy the creek and pretty scenery if you'd be more comfortable. I highly recommend this place! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Micael H.

Upper Cup Coffee Co is owned by Micael Habte. Originally from Eritrea in the horn of Africa, coffee has always been an integral part of life. Growing up, Micael often watched his mother roast beans as part of a traditional coffee ceremony. The scent of fresh roasted coffee was an alarm clock, announcing guests and helping celebrate good fortune. Upper Cup Coffee Co began as a wholesale operation in January 2010. Although this was a successful venture, he began to recognize that his coffee was creating a following and he wanted to have a direct link to the consumer. In September 2011, Upper Cup Coffee Co opened its retail location at 79 Parsons Avenue in Olde Towne East. Opening the shop allowed Upper Cup to develop a direct relationship with Central Ohio coffee lovers.

I was unfamiliar with the coffee type so wanted more info. I purchased instant coffee and will research on my own. Biscoff Latte - not enough espresso flavor. The latte tasted like there was way too much milk. If I decide to return, I will order extra espresso shots as I didn't taste coffee. I understand lattes are made with milk but I prefer a balanced flavor of espresso in my lattes which I find typical at other coffee shops. My assumption is that the Biscoff flavor comes from the cookie butter on the walls of the cup. In order to taste Biscoff, you have to scrape the butter off the sides. Not what I was looking for. App & Pre-Orders: I was impressed with their app and ability to preorder. The app is very nice but according to the employee at the register - if you buy coffee beans or other merchandise, you cannot get points in the app. Not a deal breaker but would be nice if this was made possible. Interior Decor: I was impressed with the interior of this coffee shop. I thought it was bright, crisp and minimalistic. Loved the wall decor and lighting. I would not describe the space as cozy like other coffee shops but being different is good! Overall, I plan to give this place another try to taste the coffee in its true basic form - straight black coffee/espresso. I would also like to try the food options!

Hit or miss service. Trying to support local biz but half the staff is Extremely rude. May not be coming back, and this location is in our back yard. Today's 11:40am Cashier(Caucasian, dk brown hair/faded bleaching) was extremely rude!!!! The Barista today(African-American Female) is always helpful to customers. She was kindly trying to compensate for her coworkers behavior today. I stress..Half the staff is great: Half is horrible!!! Owner of Upper Cup Coffee, if that Cashier today worked in my company today would have been her last day. If your employees don't want their job, others are willing to take it. The cookie was plastic sealed and literally non edible by a 6 year old or myself. We ate at the previous coffee shop called "Ragamuffins" frequently before it was sold to "The coffee vault". Ragamuffins prices were always priced competitively and fair, their food was excellent, their staff friendly and "small townish". So sad that coffee vault moved into Alexandria. Drinks were fine and they had a table for us to sit and talk. And talk we did - for two and a half hours. The seats were comfortable as I normally would not be able to sit that long. They also have a restroom that was nice and clean. Driving some distance, we both needed that amenity! Overall, I highly recommend so a nice, casual place to sit and chat and enjoy someone's company. The noise level was relatively quiet and we didn't have any distractions. While I doubt I'll be back, I would not hesitate to return if I had a reason.
