Update 8/2 Decided to stop back in to give him another shot with the hopes of a better experience. Once again ordered a bagel asked for an extra toasted Golden with extra cream cheese. It took about 15 minutes to get the bagel and I'm watching multiple people who ordered after me with multiple items get their food and leave while I ordered a single bagel. I eventually got annoyed and went up there and asked him what happened to my order and I guess they misplaced it or something I don't know, but eventually, my food came out I hope because it took so long it would actually be toasted to Golden, but I actually had to take the cream cheese off and see if they toasted it at all. It definitely wasn't toasted golden and again definitely not extra cream cheese. I don't feel like the order is ever that difficult but clearly they do what they want and you're just supposed to accept it. I paid for street parking and I didn't realize they had parking there :/ luckily street parking for 1hr was really inexpensive The food (BEC sandwich was delicious) super flavorful and high quality ingredients. I believe they added a sauce to the sandwich that made it more uniquely flavored (I would've rather not had the sauce). Another downside was the cost, I believe the sandwich was $12 which was pretty high a breakfast fast casual sandwich. However, its size and flavor partially offset it. If you don't mind spending a little on a morning treat this is a fantastic option! I also wouldn't recommend the coffee as they only have cold brew. Overall a great place for great bagels! The sausage was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with a great flavor. I really enjoyed the "egg sauce" because it really brought everything together. I added chive cream cheese although I wouldn't get that next time because I don't think it changed the flavor much and it didn't need it because the egg sauce added flavor and moisture. They were really busy when I came in but orders were taken quickly and I didn't have to wait too long for my sandwich. They were good about cleaning off tables after people left. Seeing the back counter, they have a it's very cold to be able to see them making the bagels in the back of the shop. And they have a huge bucket of rosemary sprigs. Just waiting to be used. All very fresh ingredients. The sandwich is large because the bagels are a good size. Chewy in the outside, soft inside. Having lived in NYC I wondered how the lox sandwich would be and it's not too bad. The lox was tender. I asked for chive cream cheese not knowing there was $1 up-charge for it. That was not obvious on the menu. I love capers on a lox sandwich and usually crave more but there were a few too many for me, making the sandwich a little salty. Easy enough to fix after the fact. After a trip a few years back to Montreal I have been OBSESSED with finding a good Montreal style bagel back in the states. So far, in the midwest, I have no had much luck. I've even resorted to driving to Windsor (Canada) near my homebase in MI to look for them on the shelves of some grocers. Alas, all three stores I went to were sold out! Anyway, so yes, I was PUMPED when I saw The Lox right next to our hotel (The Graduate) and looked them up to find that they do Montreal style-inspired bagels and we made darn sure to get there in the morning the next day to try them. Cravings? Officially satisfied! Now, I don't think they go full 'Treal with their recipe (as they say they're NYC meets Montreal) so I'm not sure if they use honey (my guess is no since technically that would make them not vegan) but they do execute the most important piece, which is baking them in the woodfired oven. ARGH SO GOOD! Especially the sesame which gets all toasty and just a little burnt, but not too much. Fire kissed, let's say. Dang. Amazing. For dine in I got the eponymous Lox sandwich (with lox, red onion, cucumber, and capers) which was excellent. I also wanted to get some to take home, so I placed an order for a dozen. It was a Sunday morning and they were hopping but they still accommodated my request, I just had to come back a little while later to pick them up.
