Finally got the chance to check out DK Diner, which has been right down the street from my house this whole time, and I'm honestly wondering what took me so long. I went with a friend and we decided to split a couple of things so we could try more of the menu. I ordered the breakfast burrito, he got the Wake Up Burger, and we added a side of tater tots. Let me just say: the tater tots were absolutely out of this world. Perfectly crispy, golden, and dangerously easy to keep eating. The Wake Up Burger was delicious, although slightly counterintuitive because after eating it, I wanted to go right back to sleep in the best way possible. It was hearty, satisfying, and exactly the kind of breakfast/brunch burger that makes you understand why diner food has such a loyal following. The breakfast burrito also really hit the spot. A lot of breakfast burritos end up being way too heavy on the potato, but this one had a great balance of ingredients and was even better with their salsa. Everything came out hot, fresh, and flavorful. Overall, DK Diner has that classic neighborhood diner feel with genuinely great food. I'm glad I finally stopped in, and I'll definitely be back -- especially for those tater tots. read more

Beverages our self serve. Plenty of seating at high top tables, there are about a half dozen booth along the wall. There is some individual counter seating available near the kitchen, and a covered outside patio which also has seating and has sides for the cold months. Restrooms are at the back of the restaurant. We arrived at the DK Diner on a busy brunch time and waited for about 15 minutes for a table. No one greeted us on arrival. After watching other patrons go to the host desk and provide their name in the queue I followed their lead. After being seated we were quickly greeted by our server who took our order and instructed us on the self service area to pour our own beverages. I had coffee and my wife a Dr. Pepper. Food preparation was quick especially given the volume of diners. My spouse ordered a turkey club with fries and I had a Spanish omelette with potatoes and rye toast. The turkey club was pretty good and the accompanying fries hot and crispy. My omelette was big. It was filled with sausage, onion, green pepper, and a sparse amount of cheese. The potatoes were crispy and hot. The rye toast was served dry; no butter. It looks like the service at the DK Diner is mostly self-serve since after bringing our meals to the table we did not see her again. The space inside and out is dated, even old. It appears to be a heavily favored spot among regulars possibly explaining my perception of self-service. The food here is served fast. The serving sizes were more than ample. We enjoyed our meal at DK Diner. It was very busy, which is to be expected on a Sunday morning so I recommend getting there early. It is pretty small inside. That being said, we got a table earlier than our quoted wait time. Our food came out fast and hot. Prices are pretty average. They have diner classics and some unique offerings as well. One of meals did come out wrong but we didn't bother to say anything as it was still good. I had the Jam breakfast sandwich which has bacon jam and smashed sausage, highly recommend! We lucked out on a Friday during Lent and there wasn't a wait for DK. Got the fish & chips and sat on the patio - zero complaints! They have really good dill-based tartar sauce and the coleslaw isn't too mayo-y. The fish is different than previous years, but it filled me up and tasted good. Not a terrible value at $14 with a huge helping of French fries. Hostess/waitress was very nice! Only complaint would be a little effort to make the patio itself a bit more welcoming. I was following this TikTok foodie reviewer and he talked about DK Diner so I gave it a try. At first glance you could see it is a popular and busy neighborhood spot in Grandview Heights. Fortunately we got a table right away. But no waitress acknowledged us or came to our table for 10-12 minutes. The one who I thought was our waitress was actually the outside hostess who was flirt-gushing over some guy in the next booth for a long time before she noticed a long line of people waiting to be seated. Finally our waitress arrived after a long wait. I looked over the menu and I decided to get the same dish the reviewer raved about, the chorizo DK hash. My wife got the pancakes made from doughnut dough. Once our food arrived the chorizo DK hash looked good but as I got into the plate under the eggs and avocado, the chorizo and potatoes was a burnt mess of hash. Not really edible so I left half of it on the plate. My wife was not impressed with her pancakes made from doughnut batter. She said her Pearl Milling Company pancake mix (new name, same great Aunt Jemima mix) at home was better. Nothing special. So disappointing experience. DK diner is one of my favorite spots in Columbus to grab a bite for breakfast. I've returned a couple times and even showed many of my friends this spot. So, I thought it would be a good idea to treat my father-in-law to breakfast there on Father's Day. Unfortunately this last visit fell short due to the service. To preface, going in I figured it may be a little busier than usual bc of the holiday but it just seemed like an average day. Our waitress was just alright and we felt like we were being rushed when we were trying to spend quality time with our family just like everyone else. She never came by to check on us until she dropped off the bill in the middle of our meal. It ended up leaving a sour taste in our mouths, especially for the first timers. Well, I was back in town for my daughter's travel softball tourney at Beekman Park on campus, and needed a place to meet up for breakfast with a couple of old friends & fraternity brothers. A solid, no-frills diner. Seems to be a neighborhood favorite. Pretty busy at 9am on a weekday, but there were a few spots at the big central tables, and the bar seats were open. Some covered outdoor seating for overflow, but not in use today. Pretty casual, seems to be seat yourself, and I ordered from the chef. Biscuits and gravy, of course, for me, but there are lots of interesting options. All the usuals plus a few extra. Came up fast. The biscuits are homemade and unusual: square, fluffy, a little crispy on the edges. Perfect for gravy. Which comes in a huge bowl (by which I mean, a perfectly appropriate amount.) Doesn't seem to be homemade and the menu doesn't mention it, so probably canned, but a pretty decent version of that. Comes with meat or eggs (they have another item with all of the above.) I got bacon, and it was perfectly cooked. Drinks are a la carte from a cooler up front. Again, a pretty casual setup. Prices are very affordable. So, fast, good, cheap, and good service. Food was absolutely delicious! Everything tasted great and once we were able to get a table, the food didn't take long to come out from the kitchen. Drinks are all self-serve and added to the tab by the server. My only suggestion is to add fans to the outdoor seating area. It was very very hot and there is more seating outside than inside. One side of the outdoor seating had a ceiling fan, but the other side did not and there are fences around the area, preventing any breeze from cooling it down. Honestly one of my favorite diners I've visited. It's a pretty small space and there's a stand right in the middle where you can buy fresh donuts that are some of the best I've ever had (and I LOVE a good donut so I have tried a good amount!). The best were the classic glazed and the maple long john, but they also had some really good pumpkin specials (like a pumpkin cake donut and a pumpkin donut covered in cinnamon sugar). If you opt to sit down, drinks are self-serve but a server will come by to take your food order- we tried a couple of different things. The DK Pancakes were so good and absolutely massive, they were light and fluffy and had a bit of a lemon flavor, they also didn't have that typical diner taste of everything that's been on the grill before them. I would absolutely get these again. We also tried two different breakfast sandwiches. We were told the Gladdington is a favorite and we could see why- it was honestly a perfect breakfast sandwich. The eggs and bacon were done perfectly, and the Sriracha mayo and caramelized onions really kicked it up a notch. The Jam was also excellent and we liked that it was a little spicy, but it was hard to live up to how good the Gladdington was! Highly recommend adding on the potatoes as a side too, they were nice and crispy. Prices are super reasonable and the whole team was fun and friendly. During a recent visit to Columbus, I came here at the recommendation of the friends I came to see and boy was it a winner. We had excellent service from the host who seated us and our server who went out of her way to answer our questions. Speaking of seating, they have plenty of indoor and outdoor space to enjoy, and we opted for an elevated four-top table outside on this occasion. One thing that's very interesting here is that the non-alcoholic drinks are self-service. I'm 100% on board with that, though it may not be everyone's cup of tea (pun intended). The food itself was delicious, and I followed my usual rule when I see something particularly interesting on a menu: if it sounds like it's terrible for my health, I always order it! That honor fell to the Donut Sandy, which was delicious and quite filling. The donuts they have here are excellent, fresh, and homemade. My friends enjoyed their meals as well, and one shared a biscuit with me which was also just the right consistency. Prices for everything mentioned are fair and about what you would expect. Aside from challenging parking, hard to find any fault with DK Diner. If you are anywhere remotely close, come by and try them out for your breakfasting and brunching needs! What a cool spot! Tucked away in Grandview, if you're looking for a local midwestern delight, you've found it. From the self serve coffee bar to the delicious pancakes made with their donut batter, this place truly has it all. When we arrived they told us there would be a bit of a wait, but we were seated within 5 minutes and had just finished pouring our coffees! DK is an old faithful and is the perfect place to come for post night shift breakfast because they have drinks. Came here with a large group (8 people) right when they opened which is tricky since it's a smaller space. They were very accommodating and didn't appear annoyed by our group. I got their new breakfast tacos without the bacon and they were super good! The salsa it comes with makes it 10x better. I also tried the French kiss (gin, grenadine, citrus drink) and it was strong on the citrus/gin front which I loved. Got a sour cream and blueberry donut to go. Their donuts are excellent. I'll start with the food because it was very good. We both enjoyed our breakfasts, and I loved that they let me substitute sliced tomatoes instead of the potatoes my omelette came with. But. It was a small restaurant, with the tables too close together and not a lot of walking space around them. NOT the kind of place you want to be getting up to get your own beverages. But that's what it was...you had to line up to get your own coffee, water, soft drinks. We were there on a Saturday so it was pretty crowded. I just felt like I was in everyone's way every time I wanted a refill. The service (you know, minus the drinks) was the bare minimum. She was busy. She wasn't rude or anything. But if you enjoy *good* service, look elsewhere. They should probably just make it like a Panera style setup and 86 servers all together. We gave DK a try for brunch on Saturday. We were quoted at a 25 minute wait for four of us, so we gladly put our name in. After 9 minutes, our table was ready! As others have mentioned, all drinks are self service inside. I'm actually a fan of this, as it allows for refills whenever you'd like. It is also without a doubt easier on the servers. They have a variety of breakfast options and a full slew of burgers, sandwiches, salads and soups for lunch. I tried a blueberry cake donut and "the jam" breakfast sandwich. Sides are a la cart. The Jam comes with a sausage patty, candied bacon, over hard egg, white cheddar and elm sauce on a very buttery brioche bun. The sandwich was phenomenal, however I wasn't a huge fan of the elm sauce. I would rate the food 5 stars but the place is the ugliest dirtiest filth pit I have ever seen. Windows smeared with who knows what. Floors filthy booth walls encrusted with crud. Very disrespectful to customers to expect them to eat in there. Spend some money they make to improve your brand!
