Apropos to nothing, I love coming to Columbus and the Clintonville neighborhood. Of course the time change is a bit of a jolt. B'ham is on CDT and Columbus is on 1977. Been coming to Cup O' Joe for years. It's always been a busy hub of local activity. So busy that they renovated and expanded. That guy knows what I'm going to say next. Alas. It's still pretty cool. Not sure what the penguin thing is about, but I'll roll with it. The service is walk-up counter with a single line - sorta. Not sure what karmic payback I'm enduring, but it was apparently the first time the customer in front of me had ever ordered coffee. Speaking about the coffee, it is really good. One nice thing about a place that does this type of volume is that there is always a freshly brewed cup on the way. The food is just so so. I got the lemon poppyseed muffin (got to explain why I didn't pass a certain test somehow). The ambiance is good. I always pickup a copy of the Clintonville Spotlight to see what the latest elementary school drama is about. Hint, tetherball ropes are fraying. Where will ever find $5 in our budget? Got to run. First visit! I went in to use my coffee trail pass. I got their Coffee Trail Latte and a blueberry muffin to go. It's quite a nice, large space with tables & seating in 2 rooms. My delicious latte was served in a reusable cup with lid. My muffin was excellent and so moist. This will definitely be on my radar now. read more

I love the vibe of this place. I came in around 5pm on a Saturday, only an hour before they close for the evening and enjoyed myself a tall cup of coffee with some sweet vanilla flavor and cream. I just soaked in the atmosphere. It's everything I want in an indie coffee shop. They have plenty seating, a group seating area, books, games, all the fixins' for your drinks, friendly employees. This was my first time here since they remodeled the interior. The new look is much more chic as compared to before, but I do miss the cozy vibe of the previous design. On this visit, I ordered an iced coffee and a blueberry bagel with cream cheese. Both were quite good, I was just hoping for more variety in the baked goods, like a muffin or two to choose from as well. The coffee was great and the cream/sugar was self-serve so I could control the ratio. I enjoyed these items outside on their patio, which has a good amount of space and doesn't feel crowded. Coffee is always made to perfection and tastes good every time, unlike most places that are hit or miss you'll get the best coffee 100% of the time.. trust me I've been here too many times to count. Unfortunately while the coffee and ambiance was alright, the service was not good. I was the only one in line with 2 workers behind the counter, one making a drink for the customer ahead of me, and the other organizing tea bags. I stood there awkwardly for 3-4 minutes being completely ignored by the staff member who did not seem pertinently busy. After the worker who was making drinks was done, he came to take my order and apologized, which I appreciated. Overall the service was strange, and I did not feel welcomed. Once again, always a fan of Cup O' Joe. This pandemic has been a absolute disaster but it is so comforting that some businesses are working to keep staff and customers safe. They removed all seating to aid the cause and has visible signs to encourage social distancing. Quality is never amiss for which I am super grateful! I always gravitate to this location in Clintonville for it is a great area to walk around and explore. Pandemic or no pandemic, nature and walking are still awesome. I got that delicious Hummus Wrap that they feature with roasted garlic hummus, feta, grape tomato, cucumber, red peppers, mixed greens. This is the go-to lunch item for me! So darn good!! And having a Joe Pumpkin helps as well! Clean styluses, coffee met with a fresh serving paper, if you are high-risk, you will feel safe coming here. I am staying safe for family. 5 stars! read more

I stopped in here on Record Store Day while I waited for shops to open after waiting out in the cold and rain. I'm not usually a hot coffee person but because I was so cold I opted for the hot Milky Way drink. I will say it was more warm than hot. Usually I wouldn't mind this but it would have been nice to have it hotter on this day. I also tried one of the bagels they offer. The bagel was really really good, I wish I remembered the name of the place they get them from. Some downsides - the employees and some regulars were a bit rude. I'm guessing the influx of people when they opened at 7 was a little shocking but it didn't warrant some of the actions and attitudes. There is also only one bathroom stall which is definitely not ideal for a coffee shop. Overall I had a good experience but am not sure I'd return. read more

I am very sad. A few weeks ago I would have given this a 5/5 and said it was my favorite place to go and sit for hours getting some work done, to stop in with a friend, or to grab a cup of coffee to go. It is where I grew up going to get coffee - truly where I had my first cup of real coffee. A staple of my life. But now I have to give it a sad 3/5 and I am tempted to go lower - but the coffee is still great. It is because of their terrible remodel. I know it might seem silly because the product is the same, but atmosphere is really important at a coffee shop you just want to sit in for hours! I am glad that they created more seating, but I am way more sad than I should be that they got rid of all the character and coziness that I loved and replaced it with clinically cold plastic decor and white lighting. The service is good and I like that most of the staff have been there for a long time. Sadly this is will no longer be a regular place I go if I was to hangout at a coffee shop. Really sad this era of my life is over and I will never be able to get my favorite coffee shop back :( Thankfully my husband found one of their old tables on FB marketplace a few years ago and I have it in my home, with their old logo on it. read more

Quaint little coffee shop in the south Clintonville area. Plenty of 2 hour street parking spots which is nice. The inside is spacious with plenty of seating and reliable wifi. They also have a small patio on the side for those wanting some sunlight. Lots of drink options on the menu, with reasonable prices. They also have some bakery items, with bagels from Sammy's. I got an iced coffee and toasted asiago bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was delicious, but the iced coffee was a bit of a miss for me. I got the "house blend" and the best word I can think to describe it is 'tangy'. Probably wouldn't get it again, but would be willing to try something else as the spacious interior makes this a nice place to get some work done. read more

It's fun to get some work done here while sporadically buying drinks/ food but be aware (!!!), their wifi isn't good enough to run more intense software (Adobe XD and Microsoft Teams for me) so that sucks. Stopped in on a quiet Sunday morning. We anticipated it would be busy but no line to our surprise. Their revamp has made this spot so cute! So bright in there now. Man, this place is tight! Literally, lots of seating but it all seemed close together. The room looks like a coffee shop you've seen on a 90's sitcom. People come here and actually do work. Like actually come here and do not speak to one another because they are by themselves on their computer with their headphones. I've never seen that at a coffee shop. I was in a group of 12 and we sat outside, as we were going to be loud anyway. They have baked goods and other food products if you need a snack. I ordered an iced coffee with almond milk. Pretty light and nothing special. My friends ordered the mocha Joe which tasted pretty much like milk with a packet of chocolate and coffee...my sister got a joe pumpkin spice latte iced. Again, tasted a lot like milk with a packet of pumpkin spice. I swear, I bought these types of drinks before at kroger like a can of powdered flavoring. Glad I didn't get those cuz I'd be real disappointed paying for milk. Four stars because they tried and I like that they had lots of couches. It was a Friday afternoon around 4 and there were barely seats. I'm not sure when it would be best to come and experience the ambience. Maybe a weekday midday? read more

My coworker and I decided to hit up Cup 'O Joe this week for a coworking day. Neither of us had been there, which was a surprise considering how many coffee shops we visit on a weekly basis. We arrived in the early afternoon and the place was backed. Folks were out on the patio enjoying the sunshine and others were buried in work. We grabbed a table to settle into and browsed over the menu before jumping in line. We ordered an iced chai and an iced coffee. The gentleman running the register was friendly and took our order promptly. Our drinks also came out super-fast. I was impressed, especially with how many people were in there. We then dove into work while sipping away. The chai I got was not my favorite. It was overly sweet, which was odd to me. My coworker enjoyed his ice coffee though and the setting was great for work mode. I wouldn't mind coming back, but I would definitely order something different. Heads up - They do have a small parking lot in the back, but its shared and with limited spaces. You may need to park on the street. read more

For someone that doesn't drink coffee I tend to spend a lot of time at coffee shops. Whether it's catching up with a friend, having a meeting, or getting some work done, the vibe of most of them are food for my basic AF soul. And this one just happens to be next door to a friend's yoga studio which makes it even better. The staff is friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They even take time for recommendations on a busy day like today. They carry Patty Cake Bakery treats which is a vegan bakery that is amazing! Today I had a chocolate cherry cookie bar that was delicious with a chai latte. The latte was good but a bit lacking in the spice department. Also the seating is a bit tight and not the most comfortable. Due to this I found myself monitoring my volume while catching up at points as to not disturb those next to me. I've visited this place many times but unfortunately I've encountered the same issue of rude service everytime I go. It's this red/dirty blondish haired dude that wears a hat that is extremely unfriendly to me. I have to say hi first for there to be any acknowledgement and is very curt with me. Worst thing is, I see him friendly to other customers. There is a blatant difference in treatment. Great place for a catch up with friends, study space, and awesome coffee. I personally love the almond joy latte, although only get it if you like your lattes sweet! Only the patio is available for dine in right now and there are only three tables due to social distancing, but while I was there on a weekday morning there was usually always one table available. The staff are very nice and there is a community area by the stairs to Tulane where you can find out interesting things going on in the neighborhood. I come here if I want a decent tasting hot chocolate or when my knitting group is kicked out of our regular meeting place. Lots of people working on laptops here so it can be difficult to meet as a large group as there's one big round booth. During the summer months there is patio seating. There is street parking on Tulane and High Streets. There are also a few parking spaces around the building. read more
