I go to UC Davis Animal Hospital for my dog and when I discovered this bakery last month, I make it a point to come and try their stuff. This time tried the Khorasan sourdough. It is sooooo good. Very moist; the crust is crisp but not hard. Balanced flavor and not overly sour. You ought to try this bread. Service is always great; staff are very friendly. From their displays of bread and pastries at the Farmers Markets, their bagels and treats in house, to their Wednesday Pizza Nights, they they have something for every part of your day and your week. The fresh baked pizza available for preorder is a must try, the pizzas are large enough to feed two to three people, and come with so many creative toppings. One of our favorites, the Annika, has the freshness of tomato halves, along with the creaminess from the goat cheese, and a generous amount of garlic - my favorite addition to any pizza ever. Plus the pizzas simply look gorgeous, it's hard to wait to get home to try it. My other absolute die-hard favorite product from them is the Birdseed bread loaf, I love to have it as toast with a bit of butter. The bread is textured, flavorful, and such a gorgeous color. Every time, we're in the area, we stop by for a loaf or 2 of sourdough bread - they have many varieties, which they can describe. The employees are friendly and helpful. I don't usually like sourdoughs but I do like theirs! We love the Khorasan. On the 6th my boyfriend and I decided to stop by their booth at the Sunrise Mall Farmer's Market that runs each Saturday from 8:00AM-1:00PM. The woman manning the booth was very acknowledgeable about their merchandise and was both friendly and helpful! I'll review our purchases below! * Brioche Hamburger Buns~ These traditional buttery sweet French buns are handmade and made in small batches! We topped our burgers with Muenster cheese, tomato and spicy Mayo and a side salad and they came out delicious! * Multigrain Whole Wheat~ My daughter has been enjoying this bread with her peanut butter, jelly and honey sandwiches mama makes her! I'm happy to see some healthy ingredients as well, including 9 grain wheat, ancient grains, honey and flaxseed and they are handmade in small batches! I would recommend this bakery and we will definitely be purchasing from them again in the near future! This local family-owned Davis bakery has been around for years. All the fresh goodies, using locally sourced ingredients and beautifully presented, they make themselves. The price reflects the quality. Their forte is definitely the excellent foodstuffs rather than the service, though the latter seems to vary with the server. When I used to frequent UCB for the chocolate babka, croissants, and forked baguettes, I found efficient even friendly service, but when I went less often and asked questions (even at less busy times) the worker seemed dismayed. In 2025 they expanded the outdoor seating, obliterating some parking spots and making it less likely for customers to accidentally drive through the front door, however there's a mist falling onto everything (people, food, etc) at the tables. Their Wednesday pizzas are good but not as good as their quotidian fare. There's a Hunan restaurant next door specializing in mouth-burning meals; the reason I mention this is to recommend waiting a few hours for the taste buds to recuperate before enjoying dessert from UCB. A few doors to the north is Mad Alpaca Games, where on Wednesdays there are tables for free-play TTRPG's such as Warhammer and D&D. Because of COVID-19 restrictions we were not allowed to enter the store and all transactions were handled at the door. I purchased a large berry almond galette ($10) that's good for up to 4. It had a super flaky golden brown crust that's crumbly cookie-like texture. It had lots of berry and lots of my favorite... almonds! Yum! Freshly baked so nice and hot. I actually preferred to try their chocolate croissants but they ran out quickly at 8:45a (they opened at 8:30a). When I asked about it they said they only made FIVE? Anyway, I'm looking forward to returning for that Cinnamon Monkey Bread... I forgot to grab a loaf. I received complimentary Sarmentine baguettes and they were delicious with that sesame taste. I work in Davis, so my sweet tooth got the best of me and I did the 5 or so minute walk to the bakery. The place looks very inviting, almost cute. My first venture yielded a pumpkin muffin and a raspberry cookie. Both were delectable, especially the pumpkin muffin. The prices are pretty good for home made bake goods. They have pizza night on Wednesday so I may have to go back to pick up that bad boy. If the picture does any justice to the real thing I am in for a treat. read more

This place really surprises me. Tucked into a small corner of east Davis next to the co op, you've got a selection of galettes, croissants, baguettes, and other deserts that are pristine and more than just European influenced clearly either the owners or those doing the baking learned some of their trade in France. Before this I thought you'd only find something like this in Los Angeles or New York but here it is in my hometown. If it were in the West Village it would be successful there as well. read more

Decent baked goods. This review is about their pizza. We bought two pizzas which came out to SIXTY EIGHT DOLLARS. I've had some mixed experiences with the pizzas here. The first time there were issues with the crust being soggy and chewy and the pizza overall being overly salty. However, the owner reached out saying there were issues with this batch of pizza and offered us free pizzas to try again the following week. The next batch was certainly better. The crust was not soggy or chewy like before and the pizzas both looked and tasted as expected. I got the margarita and Pauline. The toppings on the margarita were placed on top rather than baked in. I prefer the tomato to be baked into the pizza but I suppose that is just a personal preference thing. The toppings for the Pauline were great. The herbs and caramelized onions were very tasty. I think these pizzas are a bit overpriced for what they are and I would love to see more consistency between batches, but the customer service was great and the pizzas were not bad the second time around. read more

I lucked out and found Upper Crust Baking at Orinda Farmer's market. I have been craving for my Challah bread for quite sometime but a recent move to Oakland, I have not been able to find it. I was so excited they had both the cheesy and the raisin Challah available. Purchased both immediately and they were so good. Love how the cheesy Challah had a hint of spice and a kick to it which was fantastic. Going to have to try their pastries and muffins next when I see them next time. Chocolate croissants from here are the absolute BEST. Super flakey, plenty of chocolate inside, and delicious when warm. I've bought these time and time again and they are consistently amazing-- definitely recommend. Recently tried their pizza as well, and felt very meh about it. Not terrible, but wasn't blown away. The crust is really thin and not sturdy (felt almost doughy?), so the pieces would fall apart when lifting them up. You can now pick up their breads, cookies, and other delectable items seven days a week at their charming bakery. It's amazing the variety of baked goods come out of that small place. Even though most people probably come in to take their goods home the bakery offers seating indoors and out. The blue and white woven chairs set the mood for a pleasant place to enjoy a cup of Pachamama coffee and a fresh baked pastry. When you compare the price of a loaf of bread at the grocery store (with all of it's additives and stabilizers and sugars) to the breads offered at Upper Crust Baking (simple ingredients, mostly local, no additives) you'll realize that the price for a loaf of their bread is very reasonable. read more

Nice little bakery here in Davis. They have a good selection of breads to choose from. You can buy "day old" breads at a discounted price. They also sell honey, jam, various nut spreads and coffee beans here. At the front, you can order freshly made sweet pastry goods, croissants and freshly brewed coffee. Minus 1 star because their breads are on the dryer side and is a bit pricey. But they are healthier breads indeed. I got the Sunberry toast/bread and a bag of croutons made from mixed bread varieties + herbs/olive oil. The croutons were so good - everyone at work asked to try some and loved the herby fragrance from it. Will be back for more croutons and to try other types of breads. read more

I have always appreciated bakeries, and jumped at the chance to come check out the place when a Yelp elite event took lace here. After attending the Yelp elite event here, I have tried several other dishes and am very impressed with the place. You can find them at the farmers market pretty regularly, and their Wednesday pizzas must be ordered ahead (and they run out too). The service was great - and they were very kind and attentive. There are some outdoor seating, but most people take it to go. The ambiance inside smells great, and you can peek into the kitchen to see behind the scene. The desserts range from French Éclairs to American Donuts, and the bread also range from Baguettes to Kümmelweck. Some bread options even include ube! Upper crust is always my go to bakery when I want a high quality loaf of bread. Normally I go to the farmer's market to purchase some but today I stopped by the store location for a Yelp event. I've had the sarmentine baguette before and it's interestingly shaped because the ends are split and it looks like a claw. Taste wise, it has a significant sesame flavor and I think it's great by itself or with cheese. It's a pretty hard bread which takes some effort to bite into. My personal favorite bread is their salted rose(mary). The cookies here as well as their other pastries are high quality that you can taste (although they are a bit pricey).
