I've been visiting the Upper Crust Baking booth/kiosk at the Davis Farmers Market for years. They make the best bread and cookies. I was pleasantly surprised to find the shop in Winters. It was open, great supply of pastries bread and donuts along with day old items. Donuts weren't a part of the Davis business but seem to be popular in Winters, high demand. I got a cinnamon role which was delicious. I bought a pastry/bread loaf thing for a friend. It looked good. There is coffee for purchase and a variety of drinks including milk. There is limited seating and tables. Restrooms are squeaky clean and easy to access from outside. There is a ramp for access by motorized wheelchairs and devices. Excellent customer service. Two young men who were helpful, friendly and polite. I'll visit this place again when I'm in Winters. read more

I had gone to 2 coffee shops in town looking for strong bold coffee... didn't find it. Then I decided to try Upper Crust. Coffee choices were limited, nothing looked strong enough. I asked the barista for a cortado. She didn't know how to make it and neither did I! I told her, I think it's 1:1 espresso & steamed milk. She made a 2esspresso:1milk and it was heavenly. I go to this bakery during the summer on my way to Lake Berryessa. They have donuts and other baked goods displayed in trays. They have day old pastries individually wrapped in plastic at a reduced price. They used to have galettes which I hope they'll bring back. The purpose of this review is to praise the employees, Juan, Laura, and Jeanette for outstanding customer service. They greet me and my husband with a smile. They are warm and friendly. When I arrived last Sunday, I noticed they didn't have anymore almond croissants on display. Jeanette offered to bake some more if I don't mind waiting. I couldn't resist. Had an intuition this would be a great bakery/pastry spot and was correct. Was immediately powerless under a magic spell and walked out with a killer quiche and awesome bread. Fresh, high quality, made with love. Jeanette could not have been more pleasant, knowledgeable, positive. She tricked me into buying things with her pleasantness. Powerless. Walked in there with the sole intention of getting a treat for my mom. Bedazzled and bewildered, had to come back for that on a second trip. We will be back. Highly recommend!!!! read more

We are regular visitors in Davis, but when in winters, we felt like we needed to check it out! We went in on a Saturday afternoon for a sandwich and to purchase a cake to take to a friends. Both were fantastic! Honestly, I expect nothing less from upper crust. We typically do the pizza night in Davis pretty regularly. I understand they are doing it now in winters. I really want to line this local bakery. However, we have been in a few time service is not the best. I can overlook that when the food is great. I ordered a special cake for my husband's birthday. I was really surprised and disappointed at the quality. The limited amount of cake that was there was dry and the rest was mostly all frosting. Flavor was good. Yay ... downtown Winters has a bakery again. Upper Crust Bakery took over the building that was vacant. The previous tenant was also a local bakery. It is great news that the the Davis based bakery expanded and landed in the neighboring town of Winters. Currently they are in their soft opening. I dropped on by several weekends ago. The staff was fantastic. They had enthusiastic attitudes and contagious smiles. They sell fresh baked breads, scones, cinnamon rolls, croissants, doughnuts, fancy single serve desserts, cookies, pretzels, danishes, etc. etc. During the week for lunch, they sell sandwiches $10 and salads $8. I bought a pretzel, confetti frosted cake doughnuts, and a lemon cookie. Ooooh everything was delicious. The pretzel had a crisp, glossy brown exterior sprinkled with coarse salt. The doughnuts weren't overly sweet considering they were frosted. They had a nice dense cakey texture. The cookie had a hint of true lemon taste. Everything tasted great. However, the prices are pricier than the previous bakery. But on par to the Davis location. The small town of Winters is on Route 128 and off interstate 505. Route 128 goes west to Lake Berryessa and towards to St Helena and Calistoga. Interstate 505 connects Interstates 5 and 80. read more

We were early for Breakfast reservation and had a few minutes to stroll around Dwtn Winters so we stopped in for a coffee. Wifey had ordered a Drip coffee and I had got a Maple bacon donut bar and a bag of chips. The gal had explained it wasn't related to the Upper crust chain which is in Chico, but it was related to the Davis Upper Crust bakery. They do make their own donuts and pastries at that location. The fancier ones are made in Davis which consists of the pretty cakes and elegant pastries. Definitely worth a stop if your'e strolling through Winters. read more

Sooooo disappointing! The tiny slice of cheesecake was $9. It was ehhhh. It was so tiny, two bites and it was done. The most disappointing dessert was the chocolate mouse. It tasted spoiled, and had a really weird coffee or wine flavor. $8 to the trash. The only thing my girls liked were the macaroons. Overpriced, small portions. I normally have no complaints about this bakery. The staff and atmosphere is lovely and they have some of the best donuts. However, today I went in for a build yourself sandwich. I selected a turkey sandwich on sourdough with mayo and Dijon mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and pickles. I left and returned to work to eat my lunch, upon biting into the sandwich it did not have mayo or Dijon mustard, it was loaded with cream cheese and cucumber. Decent bakery and a good addition to the community: prices were standard (unfortunately), but sizes seem below standard for standard prices. At these prices I'd expect it to cater more to the tourist crowd. Drip coffee was unworthy. I was there the afternoon before for bread and got to eyeball the case. This morning when I returned I noticed quite a few of the same items in the case. I also noticed a few counter items individually plastic wrapped like it was "day old" but still priced as fresh. I think if they lowered their prices they'd have a more successful turnover. I'm only in town for the weekend, so while I enjoyed the splurge on treats, I will pass tomorrow. My husband & I came here today. There were several display cases full of yumminess. I didn't even see that they had breakfast items written up on the wall behind the counter, or I might have ordered something like a breakfast burrito. We ended up getting an Apple Fritter $3, Maple Glazed Old Fashion donut $3, as well as an Cheese & Onion Scone $5, and a cup of coffee $2. not the place for bread. the few loaves they have are behind the counter out of reach. mysterious round loves in white bags, labeled with W, C, etc. i got Country, an, extremely tough loaf, testing of unmentioned rye flour, and cooked to a very dark brown, almost burnt. The interior bread was beautiful and soft and tasty. but the loaf was $11! And because it was in a paper bag, you have to eat it all at once or it immediately goes rockhard stale. New bakery just opened up in Winters, but originally from Davis! Chocolate Croissants are my favorite! They have donuts, bread, bagels, cakes, lots of pastries. Pricing is pretty expensive as my chocolate croissant was 4.50 for one small sized croissant, but they taste amazing. The quality of everything is very good quality. The baked goods are delicious, however they NEVER answer or turn on their phones. I always want to call and ask what the sweet and savory scones are because they don't post them and they do not answer the phones. I'm not sure why! They have one person loading baked goods... they are moving like molasses super slow when they do while the other stands at the cash register. It's bizarre. Then say you wanted the bacon maple donut... they aren't ready. When it was Lester's they were always ready with baked goods.
