Cute as a button! Adored everything about this place. Google maps led us astray but called and staff quickly directed us to the right spot. Very clean and open, abundance of space/seating. They had SO many bakery goodies as well as lunch items. This reminded me of bakeries in Europe with the variety of items. We ordered macaroons, cheesecake, lemon bar and coffee and Togo ordered pie, eclair, scones, and cookies. All GREAT. Perfect little dessert place! Is it fair to judge a bakery for just one loaf of bread? Knowing they sell several other items? Sure, why not? After all is said and done, bread can distinguish itself in a number of ways, enough to spike the reputations of talented bakers with the skills to pay the bills. I was offered just two bread options: Honey Wheat? and Sun-dried Tomato with Olives? Picked the latter for $7, after the young lady said she preferred the sun dried tomatoes which appeared a fair price. Young lady very pleasant, and when I asked if it could be sliced, she politely offered to do it but made no promises, just then the big bad wolf shunned the possibility, with a resounding "we don't do that here." Subject closed. Oh well, I marched out of there almost sold on the promise of a better bread. It was okey but not appealed in all areas. Sure, it is edible, but the experience fell short. Of course, one can slice it thin, and proceed to make a very special garlic bread, but solo would not meet the mark of specially good. So I gave it away to a stoner that will eat anything but gravel, no disrespect intended, so at best 2.5 Stars. read more

November 19th, 2019 My gf ordered a grilled cheese and we paid to have ham on it as well. Sandwich was delivered to the table and none of the cheese was melted and no ham. She takes it back up to the counter and tells the woman about the cheese. The woman responds with a blank stare. She is literally the only person on the planet apparently that doesn't understand the problem here. Then my gf mentions that it didn't have ham either. The woman responds, "Well they don't come with ham." .......... "I know. We paid extra for that. If you look up at the menu, you can add turkey for an extra charge. I simply added ham. I found a photo that I want for my cake for my Baby Shower. Spoke with Lori from Upper Crust and told me that they could make them as I desired. Lori was courteous and professional. I wanted a blue ombre, blue velvet cake as we are having a baby boy. As it was exactly as promised, was ready on time. The cake is moist, fresh and delicious. The frosting to cake ratio was perfect and they weren't overly sweet. Upper crust did an amazing job. Everybody loves it. Will definitely be using them again. read more

I must have terrible luck with Upper Crust. We ordered a full tray of pastry for Christmas and they were terrible. Gave them another chance with Cinnamon Rolls and they were burnt on the bottom. Still gave them another chance, with Cinnamon Rolls this week, and they were burnt on the bottom again. For having such a great reputation, they have sucked each time I've been there. The cakes look great.... but I've never ordered and now never will. They need to get their act together on ALL their items. This is a Chico institution, but you can't rest on that, you must always be good, everyday, and I feel they have failed in that regard. Upper Crust does exceptional work! They made our beautiful wedding cake. I showed them a photo of what I wanted and they exceeded my expectations. It was so pretty, we didn't want to eat it. But when we did decide to dig into it, it was incredibly delicious, which I knew it would be based on the other desserts and food they have. From initial contact, they made it so easy to work with them and to trust them in the process. When the day came, they delivered it without me even knowing, which was nice to not add to my stress. Occasionally there is a little wait, but I would expect that from a popular place to go. They have a lot of delicious pre-made items in their case too if you are in a big hurry. Their chicken pot pies are one of these items and they are delicious! I have also had several of their cakes, lemon bars, cinnamon rolls, scones and many other pastries and literally all of them have been delicious. The restaurant is always very clean and the atmosphere is casual and very nice. They always have a display of artwork from local artists. That is also a nice touch. I went in and purchased a cake from the displayed for my son's birthday. The ladies behind the counter were really friendly and helpful. I ended up choosing a four layers toasted coconut cake. When we sliced into at home it was absolutely delicious. All four layers where nice and even. The cake was very moist and delicious and not overly sweet like store brought cake. Upper Crust has an abundance of breakfast pastries, cookies, cakes/cupcakes, sandwiches, pre-prepared foods, and drinks. The Top Goods: Black Pepper, Goat Cheese and Green Onion Scone (5) Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice (5) Macaroon (4) Quiche (3.5/4) The savory scone was one of my favorite things I ate while in Chico (and believe me I ate a lot)!!! The quiche was yummy but I think the bacon in it was just store bought 'bacon bits' and not real bacon cooked in house, which was a little disappointing. Maybe I'm just being a bacon snob but it makes a big difference. I also got Russian Tea Cakes, Carrot Cake, Coconut Lemon Bar and a Petite Cheesecake, all pretty average. Rick was the employee who helped me and he was extremely nice and patient with me while I was deciding what I wanted.
